Long queues as voters prepare tro case ballot in parliamentary poll

(12 May 2018) Residents of west Mosul voted under tight security on Saturday in Iraq's first parliamentary election since the government said it had defeated the Islamic State group. Long queues formed outside a polling station at the edge of the Old City until closing time and some stations ran out of ballot papers. An early-morning car curfew was lifted by the security forces to allow for more people to vote after an initially low turnout. The deputy head of the Nineveh Operations Command told the Associated Press that no polling station was attacked on polling day in Mosul.    IS was dislodged from Mosul after a grueling nine-month battle that ended last year among streets in the western half of the city.
