If you read the reason why I can't get a date (kidding, duh) my post about why and how I shave my face, and thought, "I wish there was a video to accompany it," great news! I am a woman of the people.
Truth be told, I was somewhat mortified of the thought about putting this out on the internet. At least in the post, you have to search to see what I look like - with a video, there's no hiding. Do I really want everyone to know this secret of mine? At first, no, I didn't. Because throughout life, we are told, as women, that we have to be hairless. Yet the means to get rid of our hair is torturous, with the exception of shaving. But noooo! "Women can't shave their faces - it's not feminine!" Blame gender roles for that stigma. Because of that, I felt like I needed to keep this secret.
... Except that I've already written a post about it! And I proudly proclaim to everyone that I do this. Those I tell are either mesmerized, intrigued or, alternatively, weirded out. (I get it.) Those women who aren't ask so many questions. I had women messaging me on Facebook after finding my post (it's a top search result), the New York Times posted a story about it, and then Today Show got in touch about discussing the topic on the show. All of this made me realize that a lot of women deal with the same issue I did: sensitive skin, and lots of fur on the face and no means of getting rid of it - and wanting desperately to do so.
I've turned on many of my close friends to this now, and they don't think twice about giving their face a little scrape once a week. There are plenty of benefits, although I have to stress that I know this isn't for everyone. Some women have had the same reaction that I had when waxing or threading: red bumps all over their chin and cheeks. And my hair is blonde, so I know that it doesn't grow back thicker or black. And while it's an old wives tale that your hair grows back darker and thicker after shaving - that's just how it looks when you shave it - that could be how it looks on your face if your hair is already thick and dark in that area. Just keep that in mind. (And, if you do have darker hair and shave your face, please let me know how you like it!)
So, here it is. This is me, people. No turning back, holding my Tinkle razor up high.

So I tried this for the first time yesterday (since I've been waxing for most of my life). I followed her advice and, for me, the dry shave caused irritation and some discomfort like a slight burning on my face. No cuts or anything. It's probably different for everyone
Hello, I have thick sideburns and my facial hair is dark. As I am growing older, my sideburns hair has begun to grey. out if frustration, I shaved my sideburns one-time and now they look horrible. it looks like a rough stubble. please help what can I do
I have done both waxing and razoring and I must say using an eyebrow razor is superior. Since my skin is sensitive, my face would get red blotches and sometimes even some skin would get ripped off from waxing. Even though waxing took longer to grow back and it was smoother it still ruined the condition of the skin on my face.
I literally just bought a battery operated trimmer from Ulta... and I used it and all my little dark brown facial hair is now GONE! Sure I'll have to use it a couple times a week but it sure beats having to wait for hair to grow back to wax it when it takes like 10 seconds to "shave" off. These razors look interesting too!
coz shaving causes hair to grow faster and you'll find yourself obliged to do it more often than you thought you'd be doing it....or you'll end up having dark points all over your face especially if you have light skin and really dark hair. It's not an arm or a leg that we could hide or cover it's our face.
I could never do such a thing. I had one black hair and I shaved the area it was at and every hair that I shaved came in dark black when I didn't even see hair there in the first place. This is so scary for girls like me to do this and then not have a way to fix the issues.
Yes and no. It affects the perception. Your hairs are like a cone. Thicker base than top. When you cut them with a razor, you will make that thicker base the new top. While it will get more tight due to mundane physical actions, like washing your face and touching it, they might be darker than the first time they were grown. So, your hairs might become more visible than before.
I've been seeing women shave they face on social media and I think this is so wrong a women shouldn't be doing that hair will grow back thicker leave the shaving face to the men not women Smh and she's pretty she shouldn't be doing that
I feel sorry for 12 year old girl's who are watching all of you women who promote face shaving. First of all, how you don't turn your vallus hair into androgenic looking thick one, by shaving it, is beyond me...
When i was 11 I had vellus peach fuzzy, longish but really just vellus light hair on my legs and my arms. I'm old so we didn't have internet I got my info from teen magazines I read. Shaving your legs was all the rage and no cool 12 year old would walk around with peach fuzzy legs. We were also told that it will exfoliate our legs make them sleek and beautiful looking and the heir will not grow thicker...Sure enough I started shaving my legs and in the course of a few months my legs went from peach fuzzy hairy that would not even bother me right now to really long and thick androgenic hair that covered my shins, tights, arse everything I had been shaving....Now don't tell me it's the hormones coz what started as the same vellus hair but on my arms never ended up looking long thick and androgenic...
I switched to silke epil and waxing after a few years, but the damage to my legs is permanent...The hair on my arms is quite long for vellus hair but really more cute and sexy than weird. I can silk epil it once a months and it look really clean and great for another month, or more...My legs, arse and vulva are another story...After shaving it for a few years, I have now very thick, long dark hair all over these areas...
I have to wax or silk epil every ten days, this much plucking has given me scars, ingrown hairs, occasional acne break outs, but mostly little white scars since I do have sensitive skin. Plus it never ever looks as clean as my arms.I have to shave the skin after waxing or plucking as to not get ingrown hair, while the vellus hair on my arms never grows in...
You are steering all these girl's in the wrong way, just like our teenage magazines did for us...
All of the celebrities can shave their face once, laser it and that way they get deep exfoliation and get read of any hair, just like you mention you've done, but ordinary teens do not have these options. I cannot imagine any reason why my vellus hair on my arms and legs behaved differently, other than legs being shaved, arms left alone and only waxed or plucked...
When you fuck up your peach fuzz on your face from shaving, you will just laser it all off, like you've done with the rest of you face, but a 12 year old teen will have to walk around with fucked up dark hair on her face before she convinces her parents to pay for a very expensive laser treatment...
I cannot, for the love of me, understand why you are ruing young girl's faces like this...
Yes, shaving your face with a very sharp razor, as done by a pro, might work extremely well if you want to laser off your facial hair, but to do it as a separate treatment and not expect the hair to grow thicker sounds very bogus to me. As my personal experience says that if shaved vellus hair will grow thicker, darker and longer...
I can only assume that you are all being payed by people who sell laser treatments, or home appliances that get rid of hair permanently, to create more demand for their service/products. That is just a theory but it's the only one that makes sense...
Don't do it girls! I'm telling u! Whoever said shaving will not make ur hair thick and black is lying!!! I'm a living proof it's true!!! It will grow darker and thicker! I used to have really think yellow hair so I started shaving the stupid me! Now I have black thick hair trying to get rid of it using laser treatments just go and get a laser treatment that will save ur life! DO NOT SHAVE IT!!!
started using this method of hair removal and it's amazing!!!! i don't know how i lived without it honestly my skin is softer and brighter. as a person with dark hair, i would recommend it. it works just the same.
Mmm I have an embarrassing question what do I do if I have a dark hair on my legs and my mom don't let me shave yet I am in 7th grade and it's so embarrassing I don't wear shorts at usual cause I hate them I always wear jeans so that helpful little bet but at PE I have to wear short and I don't know what to do aghhhhh I want someone advice please
Kirbie! You are seriously a godsend! I have light peach fuzz all over my cheeks, and I wax my sideburns and lip but my cheeks are still very hairy. It's light so people can't really tell but I can. I'm terrified to shave because I don't want the hair growing back darker/ or thicker. I have very sensitive skin, I always break out when I go to get my lip waxed. Should I try this method? Loved the video, and you are absolutely stunning!
Can someone help me?
I'm fifteen and my face has a lot of peach fuzz but dark because my hair is off black and I'm scared because i want to try this but I dont want my hair to look like stubble or five o'clock shadow. I saw a comment on another place about a girl with dark hair like me and her hairs grew back darker and gross. I'm willing to make a commitment to shaving my face three times a week if it means the results will be good. Should i shave or not?
Hi I actually have the same problem and I do shave my face, I noticed that when I did my sideburns I got little bumps and it left a dark shadow. As in for the hair on my cheeks I think it does the job. It left it smooth not prickly just don't over do your upper lip because I noticed it left a bit of a dark shadow. Over all I do think that my face looks better now than before!
+Dancin' Gummy my theory is that IF your hairs start to grow thicker and faster after shaving, you can vax the space that you shaved and your hairs will return to grow as slow as before and with time the hair ends will be more dull as they were before shaving. But I don't know. :C
I could've cried watching this video. I have PCOS & I am also blessed with Creole genes so that makes me prone to dark extra body hair. I have always had darker facial hair mainly moustache & sideburns. Over the last year or two I noticed it more and it has become a huge self confidence killer. I recently decided the only thing I could do was shave my face. I honestly feel that PCOS alone can make you feel like the grossest human & let's face it, no lady likes feeling like a hairy freak!
I hate that I felt the need to shave my face but the results are great. I don't mind my husband getting close to my face & I just feel a lot better. I noticed a few thicker hairs that randomly pop up but I will tweeze them & shave the rest. I hope that helps someone out there! <3
I'm in the same boat as you! I have PCOS and come from a family of Native American women who have dark, coarse hair. My aunt can grow a full beard. I started noticing my hair getting thicker and darker after I quit taking birth control. The way my dr described it to me is that my birth control basically masked the symptoms 😕. I can't afford laser hair removal at this time in my life and I'm so embarrassed by the hair. Maybe it is more normal that I thought for women to shave their faces.
Im blonde and have blonde peachy fuzz, but lately Ive developed a bad habit of just pulling out the hairs on my chin and upper lip when watching tv and stuff haha. Ive always been insecure about my upper lip especially, and annoyed at hairs on my forehead. however my legs are beastly hairy, thick and black from shaving them, my feet hairs grew back dark after the first time i shaved them (my best friend told me to) and i get a lot more dark hairs and little whiskers on my chin/upper lip from the bad habit of just pulling them out, and have to now go in with tweezers to pull the little dark whiskers out.
My question is: Since people are saying "its a myth" that your facial hair wont grow in longer or darker/thicker, why is that? and why do i get darker and thicker hairs from shaving everywhere else on my body? including my face when when I pull them out? I am dying to shave my face after seeing these videos but im scared to! Hopefully you answer this for me :)
It might be hormonal. I would go to the doctor and talk about it. Also, it could be that the hairs that were light were just sun bleached since you had never touched them before and now all of a sudden they're dark when they grow back
I'm afraid your mistaken, it does definitely make your hairs much thicker and heavier but this also depends on your ethnicity and/or where you live. the reason I know a lot about skin and hair care is because my mothers a beautician, masseuse, hair stylist and dermatologist.
No that's not a myth I have never shaved above my knee and have blond hair from the knee up and one day I actually went above the knee and I had black hair grow back in that one line that I went to far past the knee it's so true about the black hair girl
Hi Kirbie! So I've seen videos of girls who have used this type of razor and they said it causes red bumps and irritation. This is the only thing stopping me. I have peach fuzz on my chin that some are so long it's gross! I just worry if my skin will get irritated. I do have minor break outs around my menstrual cycle.
This worked great for me, especially after I've tried everything under the sun from Nair (which burns and gives rashes) to those little electric razors that usually die after 2 uses. These little eyebrow razors are CHEAP and they work awesome. I was a little worried about breaking out since I have very pale, sensitive skin but no worries at all. I did use moisturizer before and would recommend if you have dry skin like me. I will say I didn't see a huge difference when it came to my cheeks/neck but I have REALLY blonde peach fuzz so if you have dark hair I'm sure you'll see more of a WOW impact. My main problem areas were my upper lip and chin and it worked P E R F E C T. It's actually fun like Kirby said that I used it on my toes and hand too :p Kirby's video was really helpful and like she said, do this because you want, don't do it for any snot nosed boys!
The class of drugs that Levitra, Viagra, Stendra, and Cialis belong to are called PDE5 inhibitors. They work by relaxing tight blood vessels, allowing more blood to surge into the penis and cause an erection, says Gregory Bales, M.D., an associate professor of urology at the University of Chicago.
The little pills do the trick for more than two-thirds of men with Viagra protects the heart (ED). They also work for guys who simply need them for a short time to get their “confidence back,” says Michael Eisenberg, M.D., director of male reproductive medicine and surgery at Stanford University.
