I don't think a low sex drive is necessarily something that needs treatment. If you don't want to have sex frequently, don't. If your partner isn't happy with that, should you really biochemically change your brain to satisfy them? I don't think so.
As lack of pleasure in the things you once found pleasurable, like sex, is a common symptom of depression, would taking the female viagra drug harm those women who’s lack of libido is a symptom? If it antagonizes serotonin then that would make everything worse therefore causing a cycle of diminishing rewards? I dunno I love the idea of a female viagra drug just wish it was statistically better than a placebo...
Nothing just like with the women that take it. It works on men exactly like it does on women (just like Viagra works exactly the same way on women as it does on men). In act one of the test groups the drug was tested on (the biggest group if I remember correctly) was completely men.
There is another peptide hormone drug still in trials at the moment that has very good results, called bremelanotide it was originally developed as a analog to the natural MSH hormone to be a sort of skin tan inducing drug but they found 9/10 test patients got sexually aroused lol. So they refocused the company investment to developed it as a sexual dysfunction drug instead. Got knocked back by the FDA a few time, part reason is they don't take sexual health that seriously especially for women and there was side effect of high blood pressure when used as a nasal spray. They have it an injectable like an epipen which has eliminated all but small cases of side effect.
Pretty good seeing progress in this area of medicine.
It would take the better part of 40 minutes to give a cursory description of Flibanserin, the tests, the focus groups, the side effects, etc. He had two minutes. And in that time, he acknowledged how it was not the same in any way as male sexual performance drugs, barely worked better than placebo, and had very dangerous side effects.
Would I have liked him to pull a full TL;DR and rip right into it? Yes. But it wasn't going to happen. How about we just deal with the fact that the 90 seconds to 2 minutes he gave to talking about it, he was more honest than 90% of any other media who touched the subject, and hope that if anyone who might want the drug after hearing about it from this video will have also heard about its side effects and minimal effectiveness, and will research it further.
Not everything, and not everyone, has the time to give the full, concise talk on something we might have wanted.
There is no bullshit here. He did not advance the the drug, claim it was effective, or disregard the side effects. In fact, for the whopping 90 seconds he gave to talking about it, he made it clear that it barely functioned better that placebo, and had quite dangerous side effects.
It is true that he did not go into detail about it, but in the format of this show, covering 2 subjects in 4 minutes and done, he did not have time.
He did not shill for the drug, the company making it, the need for it, or anything else.
Try actually watching before you call bullshit, instead of just assuming he's pushing the standard narrative. No where did he support the drug, or suggest his audience do the same.
Why do people think that it will be used for date rape. Just because a woman is aroused does not mean she loses her mind. A matter of fact if she is not already attracted to you she may become annoyed at your presence more than anything.
The female viagra that works almost never and overwhelmingly causes terrible side effects. Oh and is basically deadly when mixed with any amount of alcohol. And was tested on men. How did this get approved again?....
Maybe this is why I've been expirencing narcolepsy lately in classes? It could just be high stress, but what's weird is I always regain cognition about 25 minutes every time I do. I never remember exactly what was going on to a point prior to cognition loss, just maybe the end of a sentence. From a few instances I felt a sharp tug at the front of my head before these instances. Maybe the flu going around my school gave it to me...
I'm more concerned with the female viagra being safe than the female viagra being an equality thing, to be honest. Gender equality is great and all but still...
Hey, at least it's PINK! Muahahahaha! :D
Why would anyone want to want to have sex? It's like making a drug to make people hungry or thirsty, want to pee or poop... I'd much rather have the opposite drug, the one that can be a substitute for so much masturbation. The one that would make my girlfriend believe me when I tell her sex is not what all I think about all day long. The one that would make me hassle her much less for sex. Ok scientists now get to work immediately, do the exact opposite...
if flibanserin does become available I think it should definitely be restricted to those who seek medical help for their own personal lack of sex drive. public availability would be so dangerous, ya know, there's some sick people out there
Sweden (where I´m from) is one of the countrys that issued mass vaccination (meaning free of charge and voluntary) during the swine-flue scare. Just a couple of months after symptoms started to increase. The absolute majority of the diagnosed narcolepsy cases affected children in the age of 11-14 that had been vaccinated. The debate roared for some time and in the end the government apologized for rushing the newly developed vaccine before it had gone thru all the testing that is usually necessary, and are issuing compensation to the people who due to rash government decisions has contracted a possibly life-long, life-constricting illness.
At least this is how the debate, and possibly the research, has been going in Sweden.
many studies have shown that sexual dissatisfaction in otherwise healthy women can almost always be traced to poor compatibility with a partner or sexual inhibition. obviously there are physiological issues that can effect female - bodied people's ability to engage in or enjoy sex, but barring those you probably should try a vibrator or a new bed - mate first.
so How is this female viagra? It sounds more like the next wave of date rape drug. It doesn't encourage sexual arrousal, it forces it, and at the same time blocks inhibitive chemicals as well. Add in the side effects of dizziness and unconsciousness, and this is a pretty creepy thing for the FDA to really be considering....
Soo, I have nothing against viagra because its an enabler to something thats already there, that is, the man wants to have sex but is not able to get an erection. So having that option is cool but I feel slightly uncomfortable with the "female viagra". I feel like it does not bring anything too positive to the table, While I don't fully ssee this being use as a rape drug I can certainly see it as a justification for guys to be lousy in bed, like "oh she is not in the mood to have sex with me, lets give her a pill" rather thwn understanding that there might be other factors at play.
That and the fact that its a drug that supposedly acts on sexual drive underlines that there is something wrong with people that lack sexual drive, like asexuals and that they somehow need to be fixed, when in reality they don't.
Although if they really stimulate the transmites that cause arounsal it is feasable that they would help with cases of disrupted natural female lubricatiom, although Im not sure.
And that is not regarding all the posible side effects of messing with hormones. As someone that has had problems with the tyroid I can tell you if your tyroid hormone is out of balance it fucking sucks, it starts with uhm I think my nails might be a bit brittle followed by I feel-like-I-have-been-run-over-by-a-truck tired to full blown depression and physiological problems. I cannot imagine a drug that tampers with all that "for funzies" being any good at all.
And yet still no male birth control.....? That would give men too much reproductive freedom. And no way! Injecting viruses into our body can cause other medical conditions. Who would have thunk it? Oh yeah all those crazy conspiracy nuts that say vaccines cause, or set off, autism, yet another condition of the central nervous system, namely the brain.
Typical FDA: "We don't really know how it works. It causes extremely disproportional side effects to its benefits, so much so that we don't even fully understand those side effects. But its legal without proper testing because... money. it's money ok now go back to being distracted by nonsense made by our benefactors."
*"Help close the medicine's gender gap..."*
Well if most women's mental issues of lower libido or inability to get aroused (im not referring to legitimately documented medical conditions) can be raised to the level of erectile-dysfunction-causing _bio-mechanical_ factors, then I can certainly say that women being able to get perfectly rounded/sized breasts, out of whimsical capriciousness are sexists because I can't get a perfectly shaped 12-inched penis!
Seriously, the double standards of social justice warriors, feminazis, and their white knights, hurt.
*"Causes arousal in females[...] But, it can cause loss of consciousness."*
I can already hear the outcry, "THIS IS JUST ANOTHER TOOL FOR MEN'S #RAPECULTURE, TRYING TO CONTROL OUR BODIES AND MINDS, THANKS SCIENCE FOR GIVING THEM A BETTER #DATERAPE DRUG!"
I personally think lots of couples (especially the women) will be pleased with a drug like this, if used properly. More people need to embrace ssexuality, and sexual medicine developments, WITHOUT worrying about their gender-emotions being hurt!
Why won't the FDA approve of a the patch that gives a very low dose of testosterone to women that have been proven to work on helping women in their physical arousal... the test trials went really well and it's already in use in the UK.
And why do scientist only study arousal in the vagina and not in the clitoris which is almost the same structure at the penis?
Doctors tell women oh just see a therapist if you cant get aroused. Thats a bunch of bull.
Okay, if the vaccine to prevent the flu was the primary cause of narcolepsy, then it makes sense that the flu virus itself would also contribute to narcolepsy. The vaccine mistook parts of the brain that respond to the alertness chemical as the flu, right? So, if the two are similar enough for that to happen, maybe the alertness chemical could be mistakenly sticking to the flu virus instead of your brain. It explains why the 1917-18 flu epidemic saw narcolepsy as well.
One day, my bus driver decided to scare us by spraying us with silly spray when we walked on the bus. So he sprayed me and I was surprised and then the next thing I know, I'm on the ground. It was really weird. All of my muscles just stopped working for a second. But luckily I wasn't hurt.
Female Viagra can be a useful supply women like men at certain ages and maturity can have a harder time getting hardened private areas. Not as sure about other genders but I will make this relevant to only Women and Men or Men and Women. I am sure at this day and modern age of civilizations we can find a way to make a great percentage type of Female Viagra exist that it can make it last for many hours a day whether you are doing it with someone else or yourself matters not.
Why would people WANT to have a greater sex drive?? All it does for me, as a male, is to give me long periods where I cannot stop thinking dirty thoughts or feeling heated around young women around my age... even those I would never, ever consider getting close to. And if I do not treat the situation myself, I have to deal with testicular cramps or "blue balls" later. So... not convenient.
This isn't going to be a date rape drug. If the people in the study were taking DAILY doses and only experienced 2 extra days, what on earth makes you think any reasonable amount slipped in a drink will have any effect at all?
holy shit, Flibanserin sounds like the next big date-rape drug. Women being easier to arouse, unconsciousness in combination with alcohol..
Plus I am kinda afraid for the implications for asexual people; because "why don't you just get the sex-drug when you don't feel like it?" sounds a lot like "you just haven't found the right guy, you can't know you don't like it if you never tried"...
not really looking forward to a drug like that.
bladibla poor women don't have something like viagra
where's the pill that makes men temporarily infertile? so they don't have to pay for children they didn't want because the woman chose to get off the pill and have the baby etc pp?
It's pretty stupid that people put money and research into shit like this! Diseases like CF still don't have a cure but are very close so if we put more money into that maybe there would be a cure today
I find this 'Female Viagra' a bit troubling. If a person administers this drug to a woman and then the woman consents to intercourse while under the effects of this drug, would it be considered in the same way as if she had been drinking alcohol and consented (IE: illegal)? Or even if the woman self administered, but without informing those with whom she consented to intercourse with. Just because a woman gets herself drunk, and then consents does not make intercourse with said woman any more legal than if someone else had given her alcohol for that purpose. (assuming alcohol is not also involved, of course, as otherwise it would clearly be illegal)
The drug works "both as an Agonist and an Antagonist" simultaniously realising and blocking neurotransmitters. Also "nobody knows how it really works" - No wonder this drug works on women!
It is probably made of women...
+Rawr900 Really? Ask any man what he would choose: a woman in a bar who's tipsy or a woman in a bar who's tipsy and is already sexually aroused. They'll refine this drug so it works, so don't worry, you'll get your chance.
The class of drugs that Levitra, Viagra, Stendra, and Cialis belong to are called PDE5 inhibitors. They work by relaxing tight blood vessels, allowing more blood to surge into the penis and cause an erection, says Gregory Bales, M.D., an associate professor of urology at the University of Chicago.
The little pills do the trick for more than two-thirds of men with Viagra protects the heart (ED). They also work for guys who simply need them for a short time to get their “confidence back,” says Michael Eisenberg, M.D., director of male reproductive medicine and surgery at Stanford University.
