I have hemiplegia. My right leg and arm are fine but my left side is paralyzed. So I roll around in a wheelchair. I would literally give up my left leg for the artificial one so I can walk again.
Jason Gooden I'm a right leg amputee and my right arm is mostly paralyzed. I agree with you if it becomes possible do it.

These prosthetic limbs cost an arm and a leg.

The prosthetic being worth every penny is a pretty ridiculous idea because how many fucking people can afford to pay hundred thousand dollars for a limb???? Not many people can afford that so what good is it whether it’s worth it or not is irrelevant because it’s not affordable...... One day it won’t even matter if we lose a limb because the prosthetics will be just as good if not better than the actual Limb that we used to have.

The price will go down as time progresses and innovation moves ahead.

If the price is the issue you can go for a less expensive prosthetic.

Mixing capitalism and prosthetics (healthcare) is obscene and not Christian or charitable. No wounded soldiers should have any financial concerns. Hopefully violent crime victims too but this is not so in the USA, too much money to be made on others misfortunes caused by no fault of their own.
Science 2020 (6 months ago)
It is only the beginning. As time progresses, the cost will decrease as it did with cell phones.

karen garrison just wait until no one no longer needs to work, then everything will be free, itll just be based on who should get it first
Byron Branch (1 year ago)
Its really not unreasonable. I got the Genium X3, and it cost 120K. and it doesnt have an articulating ankle like this leg. The price will come down. They gotta cover years of research costs, etc.

+karen garrison Saying that you are bitchig is not the same as calling you a bitch. But if you keep playing dumb then I may not be able to resist the temptation. But to answer your question, they are expensive now because the technology is new. The ‘point’ is to develop that technology so it can become cheaper like how it’s worked with every piece of tech ever developed.

Dspeir (2 years ago)
The question is how affordable are they ? because no doubt  they cost a fricking fortune , the last one my father had one made, it was $23,000 and that was in 2010 . Does medicare cover that ? No, not for everyone . So if you are in the market for a new prosthetic limb , you can be looking forward to paying as much for it as a new car . Gee thanks insurance companies, for making it impossible for the average Joe to have the necessities for a normal life .
HayZen (2 years ago)
In my opinion if u lost ur legs at ur work they should pay for it
Rebecca R.P. (2 years ago)
Whenever I see these videos, I specifically scroll down to find the FMA fans out there! ;) Anyways, I really hope they continue to fund this kind of research--there are a lot of people out there who could use high-functioning prosthetics.
Rebecca R.P. (2 years ago)
+ziyaad nazeem Im the same way! Who knows if automail will be possible to the same extent as FMA, but I look forward to seeing how far we can advance with prosthetics :D
ziyaad nazeem (2 years ago)
Before I watched FMA I was very interested in prosthetics and after I was obsessed with them. Hopefully the future might allow us to have automail :)

+Aidan Weld So if I loss my limb. I have to wait for 15-25 years for 100 buck prosthetic limb. I'm already an old man and not interested to walk in the park anymore. But you right like cell phones . But I cant wait for these things being commercialize soon. The future will be here.
Aidan W (3 years ago)
+Act Of Vengeance  Remember that Computers used to be immense, and cost millions of dollars.   10-15 years later we have cellphones with an insane amount of computing power that fit in our pockets for as little as $100 (if even).  In 15-25 years prosthesis tech will be comparable if not better than actual Human limbs, and will also be very inexpensive.
Tengou (4 years ago)
Prototyping is expensive. Still, being able to develop something like this on that budget is pretty impressive.

Why does the reporter feel the need to do the news in that ridiculous pitch? It's making my hair stand up. I refuse to believe that's how she naturally talks. It's managed to distract me from a mindblowingly fascinating topic. Lady, talk naturally, you'll be far better of for it. Trust me.

No they didn't. Even in religions around the world, the idea of gods have always been around and you can't say people are the ones who made up any god. Also, people made up evolution. Should I laugh at you?

You're just making a baseless assumption that is predicated on ignorance. You are ignorant to any viable alternative besides your mythology, so you then decide that somehow proves your mythology is true. This is a textbook "argument from ignorance". "My mythology is the only way I can imagine this happened, therefore my mythology is correct". What a load of shit.

سبحان الله Lovely. so amplification of nerve electric signals going to specific muscles for giving electric signal for a specified mechanical movement of the motors down there.true?
not a perfect human (4 years ago)
Who created the scientists &their brains other than God?.Who made the system of brain signals&nerve conduction&muscle stimulus which they learned about & understood what they needed to know about it &thus were able to do this? Yess its God whom even an unbeliever is one of his signs/miracles/proof of his existance.
