WINK, TEXAS — Satellite images show that two massive sinkholes near Wink, Texas are growing, and that more sinkholes are forming nearby, according to geophysicists at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, who reported their findings in the journal Remote Sensing.
The sinkholes, named Wink 1 and Wink 2, are located between the small towns of Wink and Kermit in West Texas.
The scientists said the sinkholes are unstable and subsiding at an alarming rate. More sinkholes could appear in the future, and they could collapse into one giant sinkhole. A collapse of the sinkholes, because they are near two towns as well as oil and gas facilities, could be catastrophic, the scientists warned.
“This area is heavily populated with oil and gas production equipment and installations, hazardous liquid pipelines, as well as two communities. The intrusion of freshwater to underground can dissolve the interbedded salt layers and accelerate the sinkhole collapse,” Jin-Woo Kim, leader of the study and research scientist at Southern Methodist University, said in a statement.
Wink 2 is about 3 kilometers from the town of Wink, which has a population of 940 people. Wink 1 is about 6 kilometers from the town of Kermit, which is home to 6,000 people.

I believe that removing oil from Earth causes the world temperature to rise as oil is a natural coolant.
It may not be enough to destroy the world but can be enough to change our current climate to something that is less inhabitable for Humans.
Unfortunately humans may get caught in its path, but I think the earth is renewing itself.
On 1 ✋, you have huge sink holes around the world, while on the other volcanoes spitting up ( or getting ready to spit out) new, fresh, unpolluted land. Just guessing... 😀
How many times can a state get battered from hurricanes and rainfall. People may not come back. How can you even sell a property next to a sinkhole? Hell, it might not be there if you dare to visit it...
Hate to burst in on the anti-oil party here, but this is incorrect information. These sinkholes occur from water injection wells that purposely inject into the shallow Salado Formation in order to create brine water wells. The salt in the Salado dissolves and causes sinkholes, which sometimes cave if unmonitored. Unrelated to fracking. Natural sinkholes occur around the world. Science.
Blames oilfield fracking. doesn't bother to state that both holes started long before fracking started in the area. Also doesn't bother to mention that there is a massive underground aquifer that had eroded the ground from underneath.
MrNeutral01... They gave at least two examples, one natural, one man-made.
And one was the HEAVY truck 🚚 traffic at the road (not directly connected to the sinkholes).
Stop with your lame excuses. Greed is draining our planet dry...
They use (waste) huge amounts of our water to frack / that isn't acceptable because draining our precious water 💦 for the extraction industry is effecting human consumption ~ humans water 💦 needs are more important than corporations need for greed... We don't need oil or natural gas as much as we need WATER 💦
MrNeutral01... First of all, fracking was occurring MANY years ago, it was stopped for a few years because the process was unaffordable ~ then it was restarted due to new technology and government 💰 (aka subsidizing).
Do the research b4 you make false claims...
Fracking is a horrible and damaging process that needs to be stopped...
The planet has enough problems on its own without the additional problems from fracking...
The Guardian of Truth there use to be a couple that is raised shrimp in the desert! I kid you not. It was delicious shrimp too. Not like gulf shrimp, but seriously awesome. They sold their business. :-( I think a really long time ago. I used to drive hours to get their shrimp. Being a native Texan we love shrimp.
If you take something out of the ground, oil/gas/carbon/rock, the ground will collapse to fill the void. One of the days the Middle East will be a sea bed. Once we burn/use that stuff it fills the air with pollution.Nature abhors a vacuum and fills it with what is available. Do not blame Mother Nature for healing the wounds humans inflict. Humans live like there is no tomorrow because humans are doing the best it can to prevent the tomorrow.
The class of drugs that Levitra, Viagra, Stendra, and Cialis belong to are called PDE5 inhibitors. They work by relaxing tight blood vessels, allowing more blood to surge into the penis and cause an erection, says Gregory Bales, M.D., an associate professor of urology at the University of Chicago.
The little pills do the trick for more than two-thirds of men with Viagra protects the heart (ED). They also work for guys who simply need them for a short time to get their “confidence back,” says Michael Eisenberg, M.D., director of male reproductive medicine and surgery at Stanford University.
