Blake Griffin

26:42
Blake Austin Griffin (born March 16, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Griffin had a renowned high school career at Oklahoma Christian School, winning state titles each of his four years under his father, head coach Tommy Griffin. He then played college basketball for the University of Oklahoma where he was named the Consensus National Player of the Year his sophomore season. Griffin left college after two seasons to enter the 2009 NBA Draft; he was selected first overall by the Clippers. In his first season, he broke his left kneecap during the final pre-season game, had surgery, and missed the entire 2009–10 season. Griffin made his NBA debut as a rookie the following season, in which he was selected as an All-Star, won the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. In 2011, Sports Illustrated called him one of the NBA's 15 Greatest Rookies of All Time. Griffin's been an All-Star every season he's played and has helped make the Clippers perennial playoff contenders. This video is targeted to blind users. Mastery Martial Arts Demo team

04:03
http://www.masteryma.com Martial Arts lessons for kids, teens, adults and Families. What is Mastery Martial Arts' mission? We have one clear mission: to help our students develop a stronger sense of self to achieve their full potential in life. We care deeply about our students. That's why we strive to deliver 10 times the value in everything we do. We talk to our students, ask what they need, and learn what they want. Then, we help them reach these goals through group classes that simultaneously promote individual successes. What philanthropic initiatives does the Mastery organization support? Mastery's dedication to our students and our communities extends beyond our academy walls. We have partnered with several local organizations whose good deeds have changed lives. And, we have raised thousands of dollars for local groups, while training our students to become lifelong leaders. In five years, we have raised over $100,000 for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. We are a large part of their annual Flames of Hope WaterFire, which brings Mastery families together as volunteers. We have raised nearly $15,000 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and have held four food basket brigades for the Trudeau Center, collecting nearly 4,000 food items for people in need. We have taught free bully prevention programs at area schools. Our instructors and students have cleaned up Johnston Memorial Park. We have collected cell phones for victims of domestic violence. Instructors have taught free classes to adults and children impacted by ADHD for CHADD and have taught basic martial arts to the homeless at McAuley House. We have team building and communications to professionals, including camp counselors, day care teachers, corporate managers, occupational therapists, and college professors. We have even donated autism training to educators in Rhode Island as a result of raising over $10,000 for The Autism Project in two years. Our short-term school programs are offered free, with schools using our programs as fundraisers. In 2011-2012, we raised over $2,400 for four Cranston Public Schools alone. Day cares, community organizations, and more have benefited from our fundraising programs. Everything from playground equipment to field day T-shirts, to new carpeting has been funded by Mastery's after-school fundraising programs. Students from our three-year-old Little Dragons to grandparents participate in these endeavors, not because they have to, but because service is part of what Mastery believes in for those on their journey towards black belt. Are you the right fit for the Mastery team? We're always on the lookout for top talent. We only work with superstars. We welcome people who are ready for a lifestyle adjustment, not just a job. Teaching at Mastery Martial Arts means embarking on a journey of learning and growing to always help others. The Mastery Martial Arts Instructor Training Program creates certified instructors by a structured, step-by-step course. Since we believe you're never too young to be a leader, we offer this program to preteens and above. We value creativity, drive, attention to detail, fast response time, heart, unwavering commitment to an outstanding customer experience, and a laser-like focus on efficiency and bottom line results. Do you have these qualities? How can you reach us? Contact us by completing the form on this site. We'd love to hear from you. Do you have feedback about our programs or ideas to share? Bobby Orr

58:30
Robert Gordon "Bobby" Orr, OC is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest hockey players of all time. Orr used his ice skating speed, scoring, and play-making abilities to revolutionize the position of defenceman. He played in the National Hockey League for 12 seasons, starting with 10 with the Boston Bruins followed by two with the Chicago Black Hawks. As of today Orr remains the only defenceman to have won the league scoring title with two Art Ross Trophies. He holds the record for most points and assists in a single season by a defenceman. Orr won a record eight consecutive Norris Trophies as the NHL's best defenceman and three consecutive Hart Trophies as the league's most valuable player. Orr was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979 at age 31, the youngest to be inducted at that time. After his hockey career he became a well-known scout for many professional teams. He also spends a lot of his time talking to and mentoring young exuberant skaters. Orr started in organized hockey at age five. He first played as a forward, but was later moved to defence by his coach, Royce Tennant. Going against the standard practice of the time, Tennant felt that Orr's offensive skills were best suited for a rushing defenceman role and he gave Orr the freedom to play that role despite its inherent risks. With Orr on defence, the Parry Sound Shamrocks had many successes. After Tennant, Bucko MacDonald coached Orr, and Orr continued to excel against small town Ontario provincial competition on defence. At fourteen, Orr joined the Oshawa Generals, the Bruins' junior hockey affiliate, and he was an all-star for three of his four seasons. In 1966, Orr joined Boston, a team that had not won a Stanley Cup since 1941 and had not qualified for the playoffs since 1959. With Orr, the Bruins won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1970 and 1972, and lost in the 1974 Final. In both victories, Orr scored the clinching goal and was named the playoff MVP. In the final achievement of his career, he was the MVP of the 1976 Canada Cup international hockey tournament. In 1976, Orr left Boston as a free agent to join the Black Hawks, but repeated injuries had effectively destroyed his left knee, and he retired in 1978 at age 30. Women In Sports Night In Bristol

01:12:44
The Bristol Hall Of Fame hosted a panel discussion on how women’s sports developed in Bristol in the early years. The panel was made up of former Hall of Fame coaches and players in the Bristol public schools. Joann Galati chaired the panel of Beth Kauke Lafferty, Debbie James, Tami Chapman, Gail Ericson and Phil Pirog. Each of the women on the panel spoke of playing sports in their neighborhoods at an early age. Everyday they would go out and play basketball or baseball with boys and girls playing side by side. It was not until they tried to enter organized sports that they were turned away and told it was only for boys. They were devastated. This was the first time they were told they could not play. “The boys did not understand either”, Debbie James said, “We played side by side every day and now we were told we could not play. “Luckily, the Bristol Park Department was ahead of the curve” said Gail Ericson. “I was able to swim and compete in the park department summer programs.” Then in 1972 came a bill introduced by Former President Richard Nixon called the “Anti Discrimination Bill,” later called Title 9. Joann Galati explained, “No one could be discriminated against based on sex, race or religion”. Joann went on to explain, “It opened the doors for women in so many ways, not only in sports but in the work place.” Joann was the pioneer for women sports in Bristol. She started the first women’s basketball and softball teams at Bristol Eastern. “ I remember the first year we were issued rubber basketballs, while the boys teams had leather basketballs, it was a slow process, but in time look where we are now” stated Galati. Phil Pirog was the first male in Bristol to coach women. “We were issued gym uniforms for the players, rubber softballs and old wooden physical educations bats” Pirog said. Many women have now advanced to play sports in college. Beth Kauke Lafferty stated, “Because of the efforts of people like Coach Galati and Coach Pirog working hard for the advancement of women sports, many Bristol players have earned scholarships to play at the next level. Because of Title 9, We have been given the chance to play in college and the Olympics”.
2008 Summer Olympics

35:04
The 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (Chinese: 第二十九届夏季奥林匹克运动会), was a major international multi-sport event that took place in Beijing, China, from August 8 to 24, 2008. A total of 10,942 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 28 sports and 302 events (a total of one event more than the schedule of the 2004 Games). China became the 22nd nation to host the Olympic Games and the 18th to hold a Summer Olympic Games. It was the third time that the Summer Olympic Games were held in Asia, after Tokyo, Japan, in 1964 and Seoul, South Korea, in 1988. The equestrian events were held in Hong Kong, making it the third time the events of the same Olympics were held under the jurisdiction of two different NOCs, while sailing was contested in Qingdao, and football events took place in several different cities. Beijing was awarded the Games over four competitors on July 13, 2001, having won an absolute majority of votes from members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after two rounds of voting. The Government of the People's Republic of China promoted the Games and invested heavily in new facilities and transportation systems. A total of 37 venues were used to host the events, including 12 constructed specifically for use at the Games. The official logo of these Olympic Games, titled "Dancing Beijing", featured a stylised calligraphic character jīng (京, meaning capital), referring to the host city. Media outlets reported unprecedented audience interest in the Games, and these Olympics had the largest television audience in Olympic history to date, an achievement later surpassed by the 2012 Games. Some politicians and non-governmental organizations criticized the choice of China as Olympic host because of the country's human rights record, and protests by pro-Tibetan independence activists and critics of China's human rights record marred the international portion of the Olympic torch relay.
