I talk about the side effects of each of these in my video "My Experience Taking ANTIDEPRESSANTS || Sertraline, Mirtazapine and Citalopram REVIEW" https://youtu.be/a6rNjMkvV0g ANTIDEPRESSANT WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS || My Experience Coming off Citalopram: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb3_m-ROwd8 Anti depressants are such a controversial topic. Why Do Antidepressants Cause Vivid Dreams?

02:59
If you have taken antidepressant medication like Zoloft, Prozac or Lexapro to name a few, you may have experienced bizarre or intense dreams. This very disturbing, it does not mean the medication is making you worse. Antidepressants suppress the REM stage of sleep which is the stage where you dream. The effect of this suppression is that you can get REM rebound where you experience very intense dreams. Changing medication may help as the effect may not manifest as much with the different medication. SSRI, LEXAPRO Brain Damage

26:17
Facebook Group for victims, not open to the public, but available if you have had a similar event: https://www.facebook.com/groups/241028905999497/ Severe adverse reaction to one 10mg pill of Lexapro (escitalopram) almost 5 years ago. I am attempting to share my experiences, thoughts and opinions about SSRI drugs and what happened to me. I live in Kentucky, United States. Please comment or send an email to discuss this issue. Lexapro, has ruined my life. One 10mg pill severely damaged my brain. 8 hours after taking the pill, I entered into a world of a neurological nightmare. I am afraid this happens more often than we know. I could have very easily been placed in a psyche-ward or accidentally killed myself the first few days after taking that pill. Then, no one would be able to tell my story. What happened........ After suffering a chronic sleep disorder for decades, I couldn't get more than 4 hours of sleep a night so I went to the doctor for some medical help. September 23rd 2006: The doctor prescribed Lexapro (10mg). So I took this pill having been reassured by frequent television adverstisements that it was safe. My doctor also acted as if these pills were harmless. I took the pill and went to sleep about noon. 8 hours later I woke to the most awful, strange, powerful inner sensations. I was also filled with a feeling of dread or horror. I had never experienced anything like this before and I couldn't believe it. It felt as if my brain was dying...... I jumped out of bed and ran around my house.... I couldn't stop moving or the sensations would get worse. Sheer horror! The symptoms: Many are similar to Serotonin Syndrome. Waves of nervous energy flowing through my body like painful electric shocks Inner tremor Mania Extreme pressure in head Couldn't lay down flat Extreme panic and fear...dread Sensations of my brain and body burning or sizzling, buzzing Intense disconnected feeling from reality High Fever (103) Flu-like symptoms Terrible headache Extreme nausea Waves of sensations throughout my body and skin Visual hallucinations Visual impairments Dizzy spells Unable to exercise much unable to tolerate caffeine, alcohol and other vitamins or medicines Akathisia (inability to stop moving) Panic Showering would hurt my skin Unable to lay down Dizziness Loud ringing in the ears (High frequency) Racing and violent thoughts BRAIN ZAPS (Immediate equilibrium interruption or disruption) Racing, uncontrollable thoughts unable to control emotions Inability to focus Unable to listen to music Unable to listen to music High fever Flu-like symptoms (exactly like the flu) Profuse sweating Unable to distinguish TV from reality Felt like being out of reality Anxiety Depression (due to circumstances) Hyper-sensitivity to almost everything Screaming upon waking I really didn't think I was going to survive. It has been over 4 years since then and I have had to deal with some of these symptoms, in varying degrees, since then. I made slow progress over the years but unfortunately I haven't recovered completely. Plus, since then I have been having unexplained strokes.

How SSRIs (Paxil) Really Messed Me Up

09:46
Paxil, Prozac and Zooloft are all fluoride pills. In 1998 I convinced a psychiatrist to prescribe me Paxil for Social Anxiety Disorder due to Excessive Sweating. Both of these so called diseases were merely the result of a poor diet consisting of too much meat, carbs, sugar, caffiene and alcohol. A truly raw food diet will eliminate excessive sweating and prove your self control resulting in self confidence and personal power. (Also, forgive me for saying Celbrexa. I meant Cymbalta.) http://www.paxilprogress.org http://www.ahrp.org/risks/aldred0404.php http://www.facebook/mtbikemike

Citalopram Side Effects are Real but Citalopram Side Effects are Reversible

00:42
Citalopram Side Effects can be relieved - Citalopram side effects include increase in the levels of serotonin in various parts of the body, especially the intestine. There are other side effects that include apathy and lack of emotions, which is due to the decreased levels of dopamine that is associated with the consumption of this drug. Being a mild anti histamine, the drug is well known for its sedating effects as well. The other common Citalopram side effects are nausea, drowsiness, increased levels of urination, low sex drive, increased levels of sweating, diarrhea and fatigue. Extreme levels may lead to hallucinations and psychological disturbances. Citalopram side effects, Citalopram (brand name Celexa) is an antidepressant sometimes prescribed in the treatment of bipolar disorder and other mood disorders. You need to know about potential side effects if you are taking or considering taking this medication. Citalopram side effects taking nausea (up to 25%), diarrhea (8%), and dyspepsia (2%) have been according. Increased saliva and gas have been reported oft. Other Citalopram side effects which include dryness of the mouth and a feeling of nausea that leads to changes in appetite and weight; increased perspiration, shakiness or trembling, increased frequency of urination, decreased coordination, nasal stuffiness, light handedness, and changes in bowel movement. These changes can be attributed to the decreased levels of serotonin in the body, since this neurotransmitter is distributed throughout the body. One of the Citalopram side effects is that it can cause drowsiness in some individuals.  That, if compounded with alcohol can increase the level of drowsiness.  Because of this, caution should be used when driving.  Alcohol should be avoided when on this medication. Some of the serious Citalopram side effects would include sudden changes in the mood that may predispose ideation's of suicide and self harm to the person, which is also the reason why the drug is not recommended among patients below 18 years of age. A rarely seen side effect from taking the drug would be changes in the cardiac-respiratory system such as rapid changes in the blood pressure, shortness or difficulty breathing, and abnormal heart rate. The other most frequent and complained Citalopram side effects are the changes that are observed in the sexual behavior of an individual. These not just affect the individual who is prescribed with the medication, but also the partner, as it involves both together. Most frequently, individuals find it difficult to achieve orgasm, there is a lack of sex appeal and women may experience irregularities in the menstrual cycle. Aside that, the individual may also experience mood swings and other patterns of self harm and thus, the drug is absolutely not ideal for anyone under the age of 18. Life threatening episodes may lead to attempts of suicide, hallucinations and seizures. Citalopram Side Effects don't have to haunt you any longer... http://youtu.be/P5RLvhFjM9s

Antidepressant Drugs : How antidepressants work, their side effects and alternatives!

09:19
Hello Friends! Do you have following questions or queries in your mind: What are antidepressants or anti depression pills? How to treat depression? What are SSRIs, TCAs or newer antidepressants? How do they work? What are the side effects of antidepressants? Can antidepressants cause weight gain or sexual problem? Are antidepressant medications addictive? are you planning to take antidepressants? How long does one need to take antidepressants? What are natural or herbal antidepressants? What is St. Johns Wort or Hypericum perforatum? Then this is the right place for you to gather the right information from the right person! Antidepressants are pharmaceutical drugs which are used to treat depression (Major Depressive Disorder), anxiety disorders ( Panic disorder, Generalised anxiety disorder, Social anxiety disorder GAD & SAD), and some personality disorders (EUPD). They act on Serotonin (5-HT), a neurotransmitter in our brain and increase its availability. They can also act on Norepinephrine or occasionally Dopamine but mainly its Serotonin. The older generation antidepressants were called Tricyclic antidepressants or TCAs. Some common examples are Amitriptyline (Elavil, Endep), Clomipramine (Anafranil) or Dosulepin (Prothiaden). However, they had multiple side effects and frequently affected the heart. They were cardiotoxic especially in overdose hence not used frequently nowadays. The newer generation antidepressants are called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor or SSRIs. Some common examples are Fluoxetine (Prozac), Citalopram (Celexa, Cipramil), Paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat), Fluvoxamine (Luvox, Faverin) and Sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral). They are well tolerated and are not lethal in overdose. Therefore, they are the first line of drug treatment of depression. SSRIs are the first choice of antidepressant drugs for teenagers or adolescents, especially fluoxetine. Lately, there has been some recent addition which includes Venlafaxine (Effexor), Agomelatine (Valdoxan), Duloxetine (Cymbalta), Bupropion (Wellbutrin) and Mirtazapine (Remeron). As they act on receptors in our brain, the onset of action may take a minimum of two weeks or sometimes, four weeks in older people. Their side effects are mild and usually transient. rarely, they can have some serious outcome mainly due to drug interaction. Common side effects of antidepressants include tummy upset like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, feeling of sickness or loose stools. They can initially worsen sleep or anxiety. Some can lead to nightmares or increased sweating due to increased noradrenaline. They can also have sexual side effects for instance decrease libido or delay ejaculation, usually at higher doses. Occasionally, they can increase suicidal ideation but its mainly seen in adolescents. They are overall protective in suicide in young, adults and older people. When taken for a long time, antidepressants can affect metabolism leading to weight gain or weight loss depending on the particular drug. How to wean off antidepressant drugs? Once taken for a long time, your body may develop some dependence and people can experience some withdrawal symptoms while stopping antidepressants. However, they are not addictive and should be stopped gradually. The recommended duration of treatment is a minimum of six months after symptoms have been adequately treated for depression and one year in case of anxiety disorders. If there have been two or more episodes of depression, treatment should continue for two years. There are alternatives which include psychotherapy and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). For mild to moderate depression, talking therapy or Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is the first choice. ECT is used in treatment-resistant depression or suicidal patients. recently, St. John's wart has become popular as a herbal treatment of depression and is widely available. However, it contains a lot of active ingredients with unknown function and can lead to interaction with other drugs. Therefore, it's wise to consult your doctor. Take care and Get well soon! Help is available, just look for it! Regards - Dr Subodh MD MRCPsych

Social Anxiety Support: SSRI Side Effects

09:13
http://www.youtube.com/user/inofe/videos Social anxiety is a discomfort or a fear when a person is in social interactions that involve a concern about being judged or evaluated by others.[1] It is typically characterized by an intense fear of what others are thinking about them (specifically fear of embarrassment, criticism, or rejection), which results in the individual feeling insecure, not good enough for other people, and/or the assumption that peers will automatically reject them.[2] Developmental social anxiety occurs early in childhood as a normal part of the development of social functioning, and is a stage that most children grow out of, but it may persist or resurface and grow into chronic social anxiety.[3] People vary in how often they experience social anxiety and in which kinds of situations. A psychopathological (chronic and disabling) form of social anxiety is called social phobia or social anxiety disorder, and is a chronic problem that can result in a reduced quality of life.[4] It is approximated that roughly 40 million American adults ages 18 and older (18.1%) have an anxiety disorder.[5] The difference between social anxiety and normal apprehension of social situations is that social anxiety involves an intense feeling of fear in social situations and especially situations that are unfamiliar or in which one will be watched or evaluated by others. The feeling of fear is so great that in these types of situations one may be so worried that he or she feels anxious just thinking about them and will go to great lengths to avoid them. Overcoming social anxiety depends on the person and the situation. In some cases it can be relatively easy—just a matter of time for many individuals—yet for some people social anxiety can become a very difficult, painful and even disabling problem that is chronic in nature. The reasons are unknown. Social anxiety can be related to shyness or anxiety disorders or other emotional or temperamental factors, but its exact nature is still the subject of research and theory and the causes may vary depending on the individual. Recovery from chronic social anxiety is possible in many cases, but usually only with some kind of therapy or sustained self-help or support group work. Extreme, persistent and disabling social anxiety may be diagnosed as social anxiety disorder. The experience is commonly described as having physiological components (e.g., sweating, blushing), cognitive/perceptual components (e.g., belief that one may be judged negatively or looking for signs of disapproval), and behavioral components (e.g. avoiding a situation). The essence of social anxiety has been said to be an irrational or unreasonable expectation of negative evaluation by others.[4] One theory is that social anxiety occurs when there is motivation to make a desired impression along with doubt about having the ability to do so.[8] Although the "official" clinical name for the disorder, as listed in the DSM and ICD, is Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder, support groups for people who have the disorder (whether through clinical diagnosis or self-diagnosis) often refer to it as simply "social anxiety" or even "SA".[9][10][unreliable source?] Criteria in the DSM and ICD attempt to distinguish clinical versus nonclinical forms of social anxiety, including by intensity and levels of behavioral and psychosomatic disruption:[4] The validity of the "disorder" diagnosis has been challenged, however, on scientific and political grounds; people satisfying DSM social phobia criteria may simply be temperamentally high in social anxiety rather than suffering from a disorder, although such problems in living in society may still deserve attention as a matter of social justice.[11] Standardized rating scales such as Social Phobia Inventory can be used for screening social anxiety disorder and measuring severity of social phobia.[12][13] Clinicians and researchers continue to struggle with definitional problems regarding the constructs of shyness, social anxiety, and social anxiety disorder. Each shares similarities, yet each has been used to define distinct aspects of psychological life as it relates to interpersonal functioning and how easy or difficult different cases of social anxiety are to overcome. A continuum describes some of the distinctions yet there is no absolute consensus yet as to where one disorder begins and another ends, although it is widely agreed that there are differences.[14] Social anxiety disorder may sometimes be symptomatic of an underlying medical disorder, such as hyperthyroidism. Anti Depressant Medication - Seretonin Syndrome I Bipolar Barbie

14:51
Serotonin is a chemical produced by the body that enables brain cells and other nervous system cells to communicate with one another. Too little serotonin in the brain is thought to play a role in depression. Too much, however, can lead to excessive nerve cell activity, causing a potentially deadly collection of symptoms known as serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome symptoms often begin within hours of taking a new medication that affects serotonin levels or excessively increasing the dose of one you are already taking. Symptoms may include: Confusion Agitation or restlessness Dilated pupils Headache Changes in blood pressure and/or temperature Nausea and/or vomiting Diarrhea Rapid heart rate Tremor Loss of muscle coordination or twitching muscles Shivering and goose bumps Heavy sweating In severe cases, serotonin syndrome can be life threatening. If you experience any of these symptoms, you or someone with you should seek medical attention immediately: High fever Seizures Irregular heartbeat Unconsciousness Serotonin syndrome can occur if you are taking medications, particularly antidepressants that affect the body's level of serotonin. The greatest risk of serotonin syndrome occurs if you are taking two or more drugs and/or supplements together that influence serotonin. The condition is more likely to occur when you first start a medicine or increase the dose. The most commonly prescribed class of antidepressants, which work by increasing serotonin, are the serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).These include citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), and sertraline (Zoloft). Other prescription and over-the-counter drugs that can raise serotonin levels alone or in combination to cause serotonin syndrome include: Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), a class of antidepressants including desvenlafaxine (Khedezla), desvenlafaxine succinate (Pristiq), duloxetine (Cymbalta), levomilnacipran (Fetzima), and venlafaxine (Effexor). Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a class of antidepressants including isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), and transdermal selegiline (EMSAM) Buspirone (BuSpar), a drug used to treat anxiety disorders Desyrel ( Trazodone ), a drug prescribed for depression or insomnia Migraine treatments such as almotriptan (Axert), Amerge (naratriptan), rizatriptan (Maxalt), sumatriptan (Imitrex), and zolmitriptan (Zomig) Certain pain medications, including fentanyl (Sublimaze, Fentora), fentanyl citrate (Actiq), meperidine (Demerol), pentazocine (Talwin), and tramadol (Ultram) Dextromethorphan , a cough suppressant found in many over-the-counter and prescription cough medicines or cold medicines Certain medications prescribed for nausea, such as granisetron (Kytril), metoclopramide (Reglan), and ondansetron (Zofran) Antidepressants that affect multiple serotonin receptors, such as vortioxetine (Trintellix -formerly Brintellix) and vilazodone (Viibryd) Some illegal drugs, such as LSD and cocaine, and dietary supplements, including St. John's wort and ginseng, can also lead to serotonin syndrome when combined with antidepressants that affect serotonin. The FDA recently asked drug manufacturers to include warning labels on their products to let patients know about the potential risk of serotonin syndrome. If you are uncertain about drugs you take or have been prescribed, check the label or speak with your doctor. Don't stop any medication before talking to your doctor. Serotonin Syndrome Diagnosis There is no single test to diagnose serotonin syndrome. Your health care provider will ask about your medical history, including medication, supplement, and recreational drug use, and perform a physical exam. Other conditions may cause symptoms that are similar to serotonin syndrome. Lab tests to exclude other causes of symptoms may be ordered. Serotonin Syndrome Treatments People with serotonin syndrome are typically hospitalized for observation and treatment of symptoms. For example, benzodiazepines are given to treat agitation and/or seizures. Intravenous fluids are given to maintain hydration. Removing the drug responsible for the serotonin syndrome is critical. Hydration by intravenous (IV) fluids) is also common. In severe cases, a medication called cyproheptadine (Periactin) that blocks serotonin production may be used. Antidepressant withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, insomnia, nausea, dizziness, headaches, tremors “Typical [antidepressant] withdrawal reactions include increased anxiety, flu-like symptoms, insomnia, nausea, imbalance, sensory disturbances, and hyperarousal,” notes a new review paper by Dr. James Davies, from the University of Roehampton in London, England, and Prof. John Read, from the University of East London. “Dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, brain zaps, diarrhoea, headaches, muscle spasms and tremors, agitation, hallucinations, confusion, malaise, sweating and irritability are also reported.” “Although the aforementioned symptoms are the most common physical symptoms, there is also evidence that [antidepressant] withdrawal can induce mania and hypomania, emotional blunting and an inability to cry, long-term or even permanent sexual dysfunction.” Reference Davies J, and Read J. Lexapro and Weight Gain or Loss

03:33
Lexapro and Weight Gain or Loss. Lexapro’s effect on weight. Lexapro can cause changes in weight. There are some reports that people begin to lose weight when first taking Lexapro, but this finding is not well supported by research studies. Another study found that Lexapro didn’t reduce the obsessive-compulsive symptoms linked to binge-eating disorder, but it did reduce weight and body mass index. This may be because study participants taking Lexapro had fewer binge-eating episodes. More thorough research is needed on the topic of Lexapro and weight changes. But the current evidence seems to suggest that the drug may be more likely to cause weight loss than weight gain, if you have weight changes at all. If either of these effects is a concern for you, talk to your doctor. They have the most insight on how this drug will affect you individually. They can also offer tips for managing your weight. What Lexapro is used to treat. Lexapro belongs to a class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medications work by increasing the levels of serotonin in your brain. Serotonin is a key messenger chemical that helps regulate your mood. Depression. Lexapro treats depression, a medical illness and a mood disorder that continues for longer than a few weeks. Most people with depression have deep feelings of sadness. They also lack interest in things that once gave them pleasure. Depression affects every aspect of life, including relationships, work, and appetite. If Lexapro helps reduce your depression, it can reverse changes in your appetite caused by the condition. In turn, you may lose or gain some weight. But this effect is more related to your condition than to side effects of the drug. Anxiety. Lexapro also treats anxiety in many anxiety disorders. Our bodies are programmed with an automatic fight-or-flight response. Our heart beats faster, our breathing becomes rapid, and more blood flows into the muscles of our arms and legs as our bodies prepare to either run or stand our ground and fight. If you have an anxiety disorder, your body goes into fight-or-flight mode more often and for longer periods of time. There are several different anxiety disorders, including: generalized anxiety disorder. obsessive-compulsive disorder. posttraumatic stress disorder. panic disorder. simple phobia. social anxiety disorder. Side effects of Lexapro. Although it is not completely clear how Lexapro can affect your weight, other possible side effects of this drug are clear. Most people tolerate Lexapro reasonably well. Still, the following side effects are possible when you take this drug: headache. nausea. dry mouth. fatigue. weakness. sleep disturbances. sexual problems. increased sweating. loss of appetite. constipation All Photos Licensed Under CC Source : www.pexels.com www.pixabay.com www.commons.wikimedia.org

Anxiety Disorders: OCD, PTSD, Panic Attack, Agoraphobia, Phobias, GAD Generalized

http://www.stomponstep1.com/anxiety-disorders-ocd-ptsd-panic-attack-agoraphobia-phobias-gad-generalized/ SKIP AHEAD: 0:25 – Anxiety Definition & Symptoms 1:13 – Anxiety Differential Diagnosis 2:12 – Generalized Anxiety (GAD) 3:05 – Panic Attacks, Panic Disorder & Agoraphobia 5:01 – Specific Phobia & Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia) 7:55 – Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) 9:29 – Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Anxiety is uncontrolled fear, nervousness and/or worry about trivial or non-existent things. It is an unpleasant fear of future events that are unlikely to occur. Some patients have insight and realize that their uneasiness is illogical, but that does not alleviate symptoms. A certain level of anxiety is considered normal in many situations, but frequent anxiety or anxiety that inhibits function is pathologic. During anxiety sympathetic nervous system activation can result in physical symptoms such as Palpitations, Tachycardia, Shortness of breath, Muscle tension, Restlessness, Lack of focus, Sweating or chills and Changes in sleeping pattern. In order to make a diagnosis of anxiety, one must rule out other potential causes of these symptoms. The differential diagnosis for anxiety includes other psychiatric disorders, cardiac abnormalities (such as myocardial infarction or valvular disease), endocrine disorders (like hyperthyroidism) and respiratory disease (such as asthma or Pulmonary Embolism). Substances such as street drugs and prescribed medications must also be ruled out as a potential cause of the symptoms. We are going to hold off on discussing most of the different treatment options for anxiety until a later video that will cover all of pharmacology for the psychiatry section. That video will cover things like SSRIs, anxiolytics and cognitive behavioral therapy which can be used to treat anxiety disorders. However, during this video I will mention a couple treatment options that are used for specific anxiety disorders. We will start our discussion with Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD. You can see here in the top right corner I give GAD a high yield rating of 2. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the High Yield Rating it is a scale from 0 to 10 that gives you an estimate for how important each topic is for the USMLE Step 1 Medical Board Exam. GAD is a prolonged period of near constant anxiety. Their anxiety is not linked to a specific item, person, or situation (AKA it isn’t a phobia). They usually worry about a wide variety of things including school/work performance, finances, health, friends and/or family members. Their anxiety is “generalized” across many situations. Their anxiety frequently presents with “physical” symptoms and may be severe enough to impair function. A Panic Attack is sudden onset period of extremely intense anxiety accompanied by numerous signs and symptoms of anxiety. The attack is often associated with a sense of impending doom. These “episodes” usually last 10 to 30 minutes and are disabling. The patient returns to their normal level of function soon after the panic attack. They may be brought on by an inciting event or be completely unprovoked. I’d like to stop here for a moment to clarify the difference between generalized anxiety disorder and a panic attack. GAD can be thought of as a constant moderate level of anxiety while panic attacks are short periods of severe anxiety. Panic Disorder is recurrent panic attacks that are unprovoked and have no identifiable trigger. The onset of these anxiety episodes is unpredictable. Patients may be relatively asymptomatic between attacks, but often have anxiety about having more attacks. Their fear is related to the panic attacks themselves rather than a particular external stimuli. This differentiates Panic Disorder from Panic Attacks that are caused by things like phobias. One Week without ANTIDEPRESSANTS

09:38
Side effects of quitting medication Quitting “cold turkey” may cause withdrawal symptoms. Suddenly stopping your medicine may also worsen your depression. Here are some of the possible effects of quitting too quickly: You get sick. Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome, also called antidepressant withdrawal, occurs when a person abruptly stops taking antidepressant medication. Many people who experience antidepressant withdrawal feel like they have the flu or a stomach bug. They may also experience disturbing thoughts or images. You set back your treatment. Stopping medication can set back your treatment plan. It can increase the time it takes to feel better or it can actually cause your symptoms to worsen. You contemplate suicide. Not being properly treated may increase your risk of suicidal thoughts. It also increases the risk that you’ll act on those thoughts. The most common health problem linked to suicide is depression, says the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Other symptoms get worse. Stopping an antidepressant might worsen other symptoms associated with your depression such as headaches, pain, or insomnia. Additionally, untreated depression can make it harder for you to manage other health problems. Other symptoms of antidepressant withdrawal include: anxiety fatigue nightmares trouble sleeping depression and mood swings nausea vomiting diarrhea abdominal cramping flu-like symptoms headache sweating Antidepressants and pregnancy Just found out you’re pregnant? Don’t stop taking your antidepressant medication. According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, pregnant women who have untreated or poorly treated psychiatric health problems, including depression, may be less likely to take good care of themselves during pregnancy. Let the doctor who is treating your depression know that you are pregnant. And, of course, let the doctor managing your pregnancy know that you have depression and are taking medication. Together, you can make decisions about how to best treat your depression during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor Some people with depression stay on their medication indefinitely. Others are able to stop taking it after a period of weeks or months. The best way to stop taking your antidepressant is to slowly taper the medication under a doctor’s supervision. This involves slowly lowering the dose of medication until you are completely off of it. Talk to your healthcare provider about incorporating the following lifestyle changes to improve your overall health, lessen the symptoms of depression, and prevent it from recurring: exercise meditation getting plenty of sleep not abusing alcohol and drugs eating healthy, balanced meals reducing stress No two people will respond to quitting antidepressants in the same way. Doctors have no way of knowing who will have withdrawal symptoms and who won’t. Talk with your doctor and don’t gamble on your health and wellness. https://www.healthline.com/health/depression/dangers-of-stopping-antidepressants#5 keywords antidepressants, zoloft, drugs, antinyan, gayane, withdrawal symptoms, medications, side effects, depression, anxiety, wight gain, weight loss, mood changes,
