Unlike intermittent fasting this will typically involve not eating for a couple days. And most people immediately dismiss this as a viable option for Fat Loss and weight loss because there are so many myths surrounding this topic. People are worried about losing their muscle mass, they're worried about slowing down their metabolism, and they're worried about their health and well-being in general. So in today's video I want to go over exactly what will happen to your body if you don't eat anything for 7 days straight. If you're looking to burn some fat lose some weight or if you're just looking to try an extended fast I highly recommend you stay with me through this video because I can tell you exactly what to expect and help settle the myths and doubts in your mind about a longer-term fast. First off let me start by saying that you shouldn't just jump into a 7 day long fast without first getting used to shorter fasting intervals like intermittent fasting, the warrior diet, and the one meal a day diet. I recommend you first try to fast for only two days however, even if you did do a 7 day fast contrary to what a lot of you may think you're not going to just drop dead. Your body is very good at conserving energy when it doesn't have access to food. This is how Ghandi at 74 years old was able to go on a 21 day hunger strike and not starve to death. When you fast for an extended duration your body will mostly use stored body fat for energy. And even though Ghandi was already pretty lean before his fast he was able to complete all 21 days. For most of us we consider a normal diet as one in which we eat every couple hours. However, before the invention of things like farming and refrigeration our distant ancestors would experience long periods of fasting followed by periods of feeding when food became available. So most people are actually very capable of fasting for 5 to ten days without much of a problem even though a lot of people think they'll practically die from starvation just by just skipping a meal or two. Just to drive this point home even further there was study conducted by researchers from a University in Scotland that was published in 1973. In this study an extremely obese 27 year old man fasted for 382 days. And believe it or not he didn't drop dead. He actually went from weighing 456 pounds............ to 180 pounds. Such a long fast could obviously only be achieved under the supervision of doctors with the use of vitamin supplements like yeast, sodium, and potassium, but the amazing thing is that the researchers followed this man for 5 years after his fast ended and he managed to maintain his weight.... never crossing back above 200 pounds again. Studies like this completely disprove the myth that your metabolism will shutdown and won't ever function normally again just because you don't eat every couple hours or every couple days for that matter. A 7 day fast is definitely something that you can work up to overtime, so what should you expect to happen to your body over the course of one week of fasting. Well about 6 hours after your start the fast your body will completely finish digesting food and breaking down glycogen into glucose. That glucose is primarily used by your body for energy and even though it can last for up to 24 to 72 hours it will typically be depleted after just 6 hours. So for most people that's when you can expect sudden hunger pangs and food cravings to start kicking in. Also in this initial phase your mood will change because your body is still used to getting it's energy from glucose, so you can expect to be a little "hangry" in the beginning. These intense hunger pangs that can also come with the feeling of dizziness, weakness, and nausea, diminish after the first 2 days for women and can take 3 days for men. If you can overcome these first 3 days the hunger will dramatically decrease and your body will start to feel more energized. During these first 3 days you can expect to gradually burn off the glycogen reserves in your muscles and your liver. This will cause you to lose a good amount of water weight in the beginning because the carbohydrates that you would normally be eating retain water in the body. Also you will begin to switch over to using fat for energy.

I was having shortness of breath and highly considered going to urgent care. Instead I did some research and I will tell you below what I did in order to feel better and continue this water fast. Like: If you have seen a change in me from the first day I announced the fast until now Comment Below: What do you feel has changed in me since the fast began? How is the fast going for you on day 4? What I did Yesterday to combat my horrible symptoms: 1.I did some research and found the symptoms I was having was due to a lack of potassium. So I purchased some all natural coconut water and added a small amount to a glass of water and continued to drink it. The symptoms disappeared in about 20 minutes and I felt great! 2. At night time I felt the symptoms coming back so I purchased some activated charcoal which is said to help remove toxins and alleviate water fasting symptoms. I broke open a capsule and poured it into my water. After drinking this about 20-30 minutes later I felt like I was back to my old self, or my old new self. 3.I also had my first bowel movement of the whole fast which was a bit watery and solid as well. I’m guessing that was a combination of the coconut water and charcoal. All in all I feel much better today and hopeful I will make it through the rest of this fast safely and come out on top. We eat three meals a day because… well because everyone else does. And because that’s how we were raised. And because most of us are conditioned in such a way that we get hungry if we don’t eat for 4-6 hours. But there’s no fixed biological rule saying that we need to eat every 4-6 hours. Homo Sapiens popped up 250,000 years ago but we only developed agriculture 12,000 years ago. There were 238,000 years where we were getting by as hunter-gatherers with unreliable access to food. We might kill a gazelle one day, share it with our tribe, then go two days without access to meat and have little to subsist on. And this was perfectly fine. We certainly weren’t stopping in the middle of our 16-19 mile a day walks to have a protein bar to refuel. Many foods in our modern diet (grains and sugars), combined with eating constantly, has made our bodies lazy and turned off their ability to run on their own energy stores. Fasting forces your body to get back into a more “state of nature” style of operating and brings a host of benefits with it. The Health Benefits of Fasting Central to the benefits of fasting is a process called “autophagy.” Autophagy is the body’s natural process of killing off, eating up, or cleaning out bad cell matter that’s built up in your body. It’s an important system for staving off many diseases, including preventing cancer development. Not only that, but reduced autophagy (the state that most of our diets leaves us in) leads to accelerated cell aging, which explains why in numerous studies on lab animals from single cells to mice to monkeys, restricting their caloric intake significantly increased their lifespan, even when that restriction was occasional (fasting every once in a while). It doesn’t stop there. Autophagy also helps with the development and retention of lean muscle, and autophagy induced through caloric restriction also slows neurodegeneration and is one of the few things that can lead to the production of new brain cells. This research suggests that fasting can protect you against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimers and Parkinsons. This is also likely why epileptic and autistic people respond very well to fasting. Also, periodic fasting helps with reducing chronic pains, rheumatic diseases, high blood pressure, and anything related to inflammation. Fasting also improves your insulin sensitivity, meaning your body can better process Oreos instead of sending them to your waistline when you decide to cheat. Then there’s the obvious fat loss benefit. After day two (maybe earlier) your body has nothing to run on but your own fat. The water weight you lose will come back quickly, but that fat loss is real. You can expect to lose ~1-2 pounds per day, but consider this a nice benefit, not the primary motivation. If you’re doing it for fat loss you might do it too long or ignore signs to stop. How to Fast Safely Heads up! We’re getting into prescriptive territory where I talk about how you can try fasting. I’m not a doctor, veterinarian, spiritual healer, or anything else that would remotely qualify me to give you medical advice, so if you try this and you die it’s your own damn fault. And PLEASE don’t be stupid and do something like donate blood, go in a sauna, run a marathon, or anything else that will put undue stress on you if you fast. The fasting community is a little confusing. Some people say “drink only distilled water while fasting” some people say “be sure you take a lot of electrolytes.” Some say “Make sure you take a vitamin supplement” some say “avoid vitamins.” What I’ve learned from doing experiments like this is that when you get into newer areas of research (like fasting), 99% of the information online is contradictory nonsense and you have to figure it out on your own. You should do your research too, not just trust me or another blog. You can die from fasting, usually from drinking too much water, flushing all the salt out of your body, and going into cardiac arrest. That’s why you only drink distilled water. Or is it why you don’t drink distilled water? No one agrees really, so I drank a lot of Brita-filtered water and didn’t worry about it. Some people said you should only have 1-2L of water a day, some said just keep it under a gallon, some said to drink a ton to flush the toxins out. I just drank when I was thirsty. Some said you need to stay as inactive as possible. They talked about staying in bed for most of days 2 and 3, not walking more than a half mile, and keeping their activity low even during the refeeding period.

"Disclaimer: DON'T DO THIS YOU COULD DIE! SEE A DOCTOR" Hi, I've been having health issues (hernia, back pain, headaches, dizziness, the need to binge eat, bad skin, smelly armpits even after just washing, overweight, mental acuity degradation & I've been mostly sedentary). I needed to make a change. In the past I've dunk too much alcohol, eaten too much food, not been active enough & had very poor sleeping habits & poor nutrition. I had to make a change to not only my lifestyle but to my mental health. I found some reading on Ketosis http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/180858.php that got me interested. I found it because I was google searching my own name "Ketobbey" & Keto-sis caught my eye so I read up on it. Then I looked into how to best get the body into a state of ketosis the fastest. Water Fasting was the main answer. I started to do about a month worth of studies on water fasting & it's overall effect. I found that apart from weight loss of about 35grams a day through exhaling carbon from you mouth & nose that water fasting may give the body a chance to repair itself. I got very interested in the "repairing" of the body. I read that if the body does not have to use energy on processing foods (& the chemical crap that is in our foods to keep is so called fresh) & could instead use that energy to heal itself. Interested but sceptical I did further research. I read a lot of claims. Claims like, your pancreas will heal & you'll not have diabetes, your skin conditions like eczema would be cured, or, lumps & rashes would vanish, scars would vanish because they are just dead flesh anyway. But out of all the things I read the one thing that really caused me to stop & think about things for a few days was "Cancer is not being feed & therefore would reduce in size". My mother passed from cancer when I was 14. So my interest in doing the water fast was so high I started to prepare to give it a go myself. I walked 7,500 steps a day for a week. I walked 10 thousand steps a day for a week & a half after the first week. I then gave up coffee & all caffeine over 2 weeks & got headaches & the "fake caffeine withdrawal flu". I felt like rubbish while my body withdraw from caffeine. But if the water fast was able to repair some of the damage I had done to my body, then it would all be worth it I told myself. I found good preparation was key to good success. I purchased 60Liters of water & got ready to settle in for the next 28 days. My goal was 28 days but due to lower blood sugar of 3.5 & a constant headache & micro shaking I ended my water fast early but more on the later. I contacted my doctor 1 week before I started & they got a baseline of my vitals. The doctor gave the all clear & at first they were worried about anyone doing a water fast. They did some research them self to better support me & motivate me. Finding a good doctor is important. I made appointments to see my doctor every Tuesday & Friday for the fasting period. I had given up caffeine & I had my water & plenty of understanding about the warning signs & what I was about to start doing. I felt I was ready. In my reading & watching what some others had gone through I read that people after the first 3 days stopped having a desire for food. This was not the case for me. I was hungry from day 3 until day 24. I noticed on the 3rd day my tongue had turned white in color & that my face looked a little thinner. By the 7th day I noticed there was a slimming over my whole body but it was not a drastic change but a very all over change. By the 14th day I was full of energy but losing the desire to engage in things I liked to do normally & when doing these activities I got sleepy & found it to be more hard work that a relaxation it used to be. Playing video games felt the same. My friends noticed the change & got worries & some stopped supporting me. I tried to explain to them when I first started the fast that around the 14th day period these things would happen but they made up their own minds. It was disheartening but made me even more determined to press on. By day 21 I found my self laying in bed most of the day as sitting up was making me feel super hungry & it seemed like the only way to stop the hunger was to do not much of anything. So I started to binge watch TV shows on my phone while I lay there & took naps from time to time. Day 23 I saw my doctor & got my blood work results back. Low vitamin D was the only issue. Everything else was fine & good. Get more sun & that would sort itself out. But my Blood sugar when tested on the day was 3.6 & 3.7 is the lower limit. Lower than 3.7 & your brain is not getting feed, this will lead to dizziness & shakes & headaches I was told. Day 24 I was not good as I said before & did a blood sugar test & the result was 3.5 & I was having all the symptoms of being hypoglycemia. Now even though the video on the left is from a month ago I lost the majority of this fat during the five-day fast believe it or not. I also didn't lose a lot of muscle. I may look flat in the video on the righr but that's because I had no carbohydrates or any kind of food for that matter at the time of that video. This third video shows me today which is about 3 or 4 days after reintroducing solid sources of carbohydrates proteins and fats and my muscles are Fuller but the body fat is still down. Again most of these fat loss results came in five days.. now in this video I'm not here to sell you ANYTHING there's no magical 5 day detox fast that I'm preaching about I'm going to tell you exactly what I did during these 5 days right here in this video so I have nothing to gain from you thinking that I lost this body fat over the course of just five days. So let's Jump Right In. First of all I want everyone to know that I didn't just jump into a 5-day fast. I've done many different diets before and I've practiced intermittent fasting and fasting in general a lot within the last couple years. That's why I was able to not eat any solid food for five days and have minimal side effects. Like I had no headaches I wasn't that hungry and just had minimal withdrawal symptoms from food. The reason why I decided to do this fast wasn't actually for fat loss it was because I recently found out that I have a dairy allergy and I wanted to just reset and heal my digestive system. But clearly you see that fasting works for fat loss as well. Now before you get to the point where you can do a 5-day fast I recommend starting with intermittent fasting where you just fast for only 16 hours a day and eat during an 8 Hour feeding window. Once you get used to that you can progress to a 20 hour fast with a 4-Hour feeding window. Then you could do a whole day fast. And slowly progress your way 2 to 3 days and eventually you'll be able to do a 5-day fast. I've become so accustomed to fasting that I was able to continue working out throughout my fast which I don't recommend you do unless you're really used to fasting. I definitely did lose a little bit of strength as expected but I'll make up for it within this next week. Now it's very important that you don't just starve yourself and completely abstain from any kind of nutrition. If I did this 5-day fast wrong I would feel like complete garbage and I would be so hungry that I would want to chew my own hands off. So let me explain what I did. Everyday I would have 3 to 4 cups of chicken broth. This was part of my strategy to help heal my gut but it's also extremely filling and very high in glutamine. I credit maintaining a lot of my muscle to drinking the chicken broth on a daily basis. Let me give you guys the exact recipe that I would do. I would start by washing and removing all the skin from chicken breasts and thighs. Then I would throw them into a big pot and fill the pot up with water. Next I would bring the water almost to a boil and drain it. Then I would fill the pot with water once again cut up some carrots add a Spanish onion some dill weed a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of salt. Next I would just boil it for about an hour and a half and you don't necessarily have to do it for an hour and a half I know some people that only cook it for half an hour that's kind of your preference. And yeah I would have like three or four of those a day and not only does it have calories in it coming from protein and fat but again it has a lot of amino acids that are going to help you retain muscle naturally. The other thing that I was doing was juicing. So every day for the first 3 days I only had vegetable juices where I would grab a whole bunch of different colored vegetables like carrots broccoli kale chard tomatoes and all kinds of vegetables and just push them through the juicer that I have. This supplied vital vitamins and minerals for my body during the fast.
