Vitamin C For Guinea Pigs (Required)

08:07
Vitamin C is a must have for a guinea pigs diet! They require it daily or will up with Scurvy, which is very debilitating, painful and life threatening. The important thing is, Scurvy is SO preventable. Make sure to feed HIGH quality pellets with stabilized Vitamin C that you are not keeping for more than 6 months. Feed fresh veggies like bell pepper, cilantro, tomato (small amount), red or green leaf lettuce and so on, these are high in Vitamin C but average in Calcium. High Vitamin C veggies can also be HIGH in Calcium so please be aware that too much Calcium can be trouble. If you are supplementing Vitamin C daily, make sure to speak with you vet for the safe amount. You can use Vitamin C hay tabs from Oxbow, Liquid Vitamin C or chewable Vitamin C. Ensure that it is not a multivitamin but is just Absorbic Acid (Vitamin C). Again, speak with your vet for the safe portion/amount to feed. NEVER add stuff to their water, it degrades quickly and changes the flavour. If the guinea pigs don't want to drink as much, this can cause other illnesses and complications, so isn't worth the risk. Fresh, clean, filtered water is the way to go. How can you resist such welcoming pets? Step 1: Do research Before you actually bring your guinea pig home, do a little research online and in magazines and books. Guinea pigs need more care and attention than you might expect. Step 2: Get company Guinea pigs are social animals—they’d much rather live with another guinea pig or two than by themselves. If you want your little squeaker to be the happiest, get her a friend. Step 3: Consider roommates Female guinea pigs can usually live comfortably together. Male guinea pigs should be from the same litter to reduce grumpiness and fighting. And since guinea pig neutering isn’t widely available, don’t keep males and females in the same pen. Step 4: Give them room Guinea pigs need plenty of space to run around. One guinea pig needs at least four square feet of space—but the roomier, the better. Step 5: Line the cage Guinea pigs’ feet are delicate. Don’t keep them in wire-bottomed cages. Instead, use cages with solid bottoms, and line the cage or pen with newspaper topped with plenty of hay, shredded paper, or recycled pellet-type bedding. Tip A hard-sided children’s wading pool makes a good guinea pig pen. Step 6: Provide lots of hay A guinea pig’s main food source should be fresh, high-quality timothy hay. Feed your piggies as much hay as they’ll eat—they need the fiber, and munching on hay is the best way to keep their teeth from growing too long. Step 7: Give them vitamin C Guinea pigs depend on their owners to provide them with vitamin C. Commercial guinea pig pellets contain the necessary amount of C. Generally, one adult guinea pig needs a ¼ cup of pellets per day. Use fresh pellets, as vitamin C breaks down, and don’t substitute rabbit pellets, which aren’t the same thing. Tip Many guinea pigs think Vitamin C tablets are a treat. Give your piggies a quarter of a tablet once a week, or sprinkle a crushed tablet over their food. Step 8: Give them greens Guinea pigs should also have a handful of varied greens and vegetables each day. Provide those high in vitamin C like kale, dandelion greens, and strips of red pepper. Step 9: Give them water Guinea pigs drink tons of water. Make sure yours have clean, fresh water available at all times. Step 10: Provide hiding places Guinea pigs love having hiding places to play and sleep in. Try empty coffee cans, shoeboxes with holes cut in them, and overturned flowerpots. While guinea pigs like to play, they’re not particularly nimble—offer them balls and low ramps for exercise. Step 11: Let them run free Give your guinea pigs plenty of 'floor time' each day. Let them run around in a space that’s free of wires and other dangers—you don’t want them nibbling on your computer cords! Step 12: Groom your piggies Many guinea pigs love to be brushed. Longhaired guinea pigs should be brushed every day. Step 13: Watch their health Call a small-animal veterinarian if your guinea pigs are sneezing or coughing, have diarrhea, or seem lethargic. A happy, healthy guinea pig can live for up to 10 years, so with good care your little friend will be around for a nice long time. Did You Know? Excited guinea pigs sometimes jump up and down—a behavior called 'popcorning.'

The Piigs Take their Vitamin C

02:15
It's important that guinea pigs have a daily source of Vitamin C. There's many methods for doing this. This is how we take care of that need. Papua's tablets are from OxBow http://bit.ly/fCNlvW. Phoenix's liquid Vitamin C is purchased from our vet. It is NOT the same as the liquid Vitamin C drops that go in the water sold at most pet stores. Please consult your vet before changing your guinea pig's diet. Discover more about Papua Piig & Friends at http://www.facebook.com/piigs

Guinea Pigs Need Vitamin C | How To Feed Liquid Form

06:38
I knew that guinea pigs needed to eat vegetables everyday because they require vitamin C but for a while didn't know that it was good practice to feed as a supplement too. I have been using the Childlife liquid vitamin C and it is working well for me. Onyx loves it and Luna isn't too sure but usually takes it after a stroke or picking up. Tip: Do not waste your money on vitamin c drops that go in water. The vitamin c won't last in the water bottle once exposed to sunlight. That's why the liquid I buy is in a brown bottle to stop exposure to sunlight.

Rosie Cure strokes with vitamin C.

09:46
Take 2 gm of vitamin C hourly to prevent strokes. Yes, you can cure & prevent strokes without drugs or surgery. A stroke is a rapid loss of brain function due to a blockage of the blood flow to a section of the brain causing a headache, pain in an arm or leg, or due to a leak in an artery feeding the brain, due to a chunk of plaque getting loose and blocking a smaller artery in the brain. This will cause an arm to stop functioning. Or an eye. It is caused by a diet lacking 2 gm of vitamin C hourly. This can be proven by raising Guinea pigs on rabbit feed, that lacks high levels of vitamin C. Guineas will develop a stroke and lose the ability to speak, see, walk or think. That is why we always feed Guinea pigs massive doses of vitamin C. Ask your kids how much vitamin C is in Guinea pig food. This blockage in the brain prevents eyes from seeing, causes pain or loss of function of an arm or leg, on one side of the body. It can be prevented by taking 2 grams of vitamin C hourly, taking 1,500 mcg of selenium daily. A stroke can cause permanent neurological damage, complications and death. Early warning signs are diabeties, high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol plaque in the arteries , at points where you have a leak in an artery. Smoking can cause strokes, due to a lack of oxygen, so drink H2O2 in water daily to supply oxygen, even if you don't smoke. It is the leading cause of death worldwide, the second leading cause of disability & death in Europe and the second leading cause of disability in the US. It is caused by Prevention. Take 2 gm of vitamin C hourly. Take 1,500 mcg of selenium daily. Eat right 4 your blood type. Foods that cause strokes in blood type "O". Oranges, strawberries, milk, cheese, shell fish, Blood type B: The news about chicken is troubling to many. The danger of chicken to blood type B is the power of the agglutinating lectin to attack your bloodstream and potentially lead to strokes and immune disorders. So even though chicken may be a popular food, I urge you to begin weaning yourself away from it by eating turkey, lamb or fish. Chicken is so delicious you could die. Eat rice or millet instead of kasha, oat instead of beans. Avoid wheat & wild rice. pg 30, 148, Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type. D'Adamo. Here are supplements to prevent strokes: 2 gm of vit. C hourly; Calcium, 2,000 mg/ day; Magnesium, 1,000 mg/ d; Copper - Zinc tables, 1 oz. of plant derived colloidal minerals, 1,500 mcg of Selenium daily, Drink all of your morning urine, until 3pm daily, Herbs: poison ivy, if correct for your blood type. DMSO. Collagen, gelatin, 1,000 mg 3 X day; Vit B 6 100 mg 2 X D vit B3 450 mg 2X D. Strokes are the second leading cause of disabilities like losing the ability to: speak, see, walk or think, worldwide. Stroke is the leading cause of death worldwide.

Guinea Pigs: How to Give Liquid Vitamin C Orally

01:00
Warning! LOUD NOISE so lower your speaker volume. Vitamin C is an essential thing that our pet Guinea Pig need to have daily. You don't have to give them a supplement like this if you provide enough vegetables and fruits. But unfortunately in my city, there is only a few vegetables that I can give them to balance their Vitamin C/Phosphorous and Calcium Intake so I had to provide a liquid Vitamin C supplement. Starla and me showing you how I give her Vitamin C fast and easy :)

Guinea Pigs! What, Where, and How

09:34
Jessi talks about Guinea Pigs. What are they? Where did they come from? And how do you take care of one as a pet. I would also suggest giving them a Vitamin C supplement on top of their pelleted diet. The older the pellets the less Vitamin C it contains. A 1/2 tablet of a regular human dose is easy to get and easy to give. Do not put anything in their water in case they don't like the taste. Just let them chew up the tablet themselves. Edit: As many have so graciously pointed out, guinea pigs need companionship to thrive in captivity. Please consider housing two or more guinea pigs together and be responsible about spaying and neutering if you have mixed genders. I would recommend either 1 male and 1-2 females, or all females. The more guinea pigs you have, the more space you need to provide for them. Thanks everyone for speaking up and showing your concern for keeping guinea pigs happy and healthy! http://tolweb.org/treehouses/?treehouse_id=4713 http://cavyhistory.tripod.com/ -- Looking for more awesome animal stuff? sick guinea pig with a URI

06:58
my guinea pig fredrikk cought a URI from someone elses sick animals ... going to a 4H show and their rabbits were getting snot all over my pants, and they were back with my animals too so yeah, fredrikk is now sick... =( and just so everyone knows, unfortunately he did not make it. its hard to get a guinea pig back to health once it becomes sick. This is partially because when it is in the wild, it cant show syptoms of sickness or it will die quickly, so normally your guinea will not show signs untill the last minute, and you MUST do anything you can. get some pellets and vitamin c, put water in a bowl with the pelets and your vitamin c supplement. the water will soak the pellets and create a mash . also, if you have another guinea pig collect it's fece's and feed it to your sick guinea pig, this may sound disgusting but there are many nutrients in a guinea pigs feces because of the way theydigest their food. make sure you force feed atleast 10cc's a day, about 2 cc's every hour. i also recomend you take your guinea to the vet, they can give you anti biotics that will save the animals life if action is taken soon enough. if you need any answers to questions or you have a severely sick guinea pig you may email me at bekahspunkypigs@yahoo.com good luck, =)

The power of taking high-dose vitamin c, why niacin can change your life, and how to doctor yourself to keep yourself healthy. What’s in this episode: How Dr. Andrew Saul got into the industry of natural health and orthomolecular medicine Why his children never had to use antibiotics and were never really sick What Dr. Saul’s vitamin c protocol looks like and what he recommends others use Why human beings and guinea pigs don’t produce their own vitamin c and what this means in terms of how much we should be consuming Why Linus Pauling was right about vitamin c and why his tests were intentionally replicated the wrong way to “disprove” they worked The fact that cancer patients who took Pauling’s vitamin c therapy lived 5x longer than patients who did not How vitamin c was able to reduce the symptoms and even reverse polio back in the 1930’s What type of vitamin c you should be taking How much water you should be consuming when you take vitamin c What bowel tolerance really means and why it’s important to get to this level when taking vitamin c for therapeutic benefits Why people with a sensitive stomach may want to take vitamin c with food, consume more water, or take a buffered vitamin c What form to take of vitamin c when you’re really sick My experience with taking high-dose vitamin c for my viral pneumonia Why I regularly take about 5,000mg of vitamin c every day The many uses that niacin has and why you should be taking this often overlooked but very important vitamin How to take niacin the right way and how to deal with the “flushing” sensation How much niacin you should take each day Using niacin as a treatment for schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and more What Dr. Andrew Saul takes for supplements and vitamins every day

Our Guinea Pigs

10:24
***EXPAND FOR MORE INFO & FAQs*** Even though I've had guinea pigs for over 20 years, I'm still forever learning about these sweet animals! I love them dearly and continue to look to improve in every way possible, so my pigs can enjoy a healthy happy life with us always! Here are our guinea pigs, and their current grooming and set-up. We don't keep them in a cage, I like my piggies to have plenty of space to run and play, there seemed to be some confusion with the size of our pigs total cage and run space, it's 10' x 5'. This is an excellent size space for 2 pigs. Not to mention, as long as they're supervised our babies are free to come out and play in the living room as they please. Everyone has different ideas of how to care for their pigs, that's great, feel free to share how you like to care for your pigs in the comments. FAQs How often do you bath a Guinea Pig? Only when necessary, generally once every couple of months. We recommend using Gorgeous Guineas. http://gorgeousguineas.com/ What do they eat? Our pigs prefer Sunburst Guinea Pig pellets, Timothy hay, plenty of fresh veggies, leafy greens, grass, fruit, fresh clean water (we give ours spring water) they need all of this on a daily basis. Don't forget to supplement their diet with vitamin C drops or tablets for Guinea Pigs. What type of bedding should I use? We recommend a 50/50 blend of Aspen wood shavings and paper bedding, this is both safe and highly absorbent. DO NOT use pine, cedar, hay, straw or other aromatic types of wood shavings. These can harm a Guinea Pig's respiratory system. Do they bite or fight? Generally Guinea Pigs are very sweet and even tempered. However during their adolescent years they may test you by nipping but most pigs grow out of this stage. They may also nip at each other when food is involved. Most of the time Guinea Pigs get along with each other. Sows (females) usually get along well with each other. Boars (males) may have a tendency to fight more with each other, especially if they were not raised together. Where should I purchase a guinea pig? I recommend finding a good breeder in your area, where you can go see the pigs and their surroundings in person. You want to make sure they're coming from a healthy environment. If you can't get in touch with a local breeder, checkout locally owned pet stores, ask if they buy their pigs from local breeders only. I would avoid big chain pet stores, depending on where their pigs are from, more often than not, they're unhealthy. I want to get a Guinea Pig, but do I really need two? YES. Never own just one Guinea Pig. Guinea Pigs are social animals, they NEED other Guinea Pig friends. I already have one Guinea Pig but I want to get it a friend, what do I do? Make sure to find a healthy pig. It's best to buy from a local breeder where you can make sure the pig is coming from a happy, healthy environment. BUT even then you'll need to quarantine the new pig, meaning keep them completely separated for a couple weeks to be sure it's fully healthy, then you can slowly introduce them to each other. Introducing pigs that did not grow up together is easier to do with sows (females).

Except for guinea pigs, birds, fish, certain species of bat and higher order primates such as humans, apes and monkeys it can be synthesized by all species. This is why all these species depend on their diet to intake Vitamin C. Handfeeding baby Cavy part2

00:40
They get accustomed fast to your hands when being handfed. Here is our weakest baby... well weak a few days ago... We recognized it by it not competing much for food compared to it's stronger half siblings. after one more day of no observed feeding we decided to handfeed it as it was starting to stay still and sitting in the corner puffed up. basically what you need is kitten or goat milk ideally. Our formula which got him right on track as seen on the clip consisted of: -kitten milk -small part of a water soluble vitaminC tablet (those for kids are ok normally but not too much!). -bit water to dissolve the vitamin tablet in it. -some powdered specific baby bird food from the vet given from this purpose (not sure on brand/name) -small 1ml thin syringe (without needle duh) *important*: make sure you have the liquid to be fed at at least body temperature... to get it on temp you can put the syringe with liquid in your closed elbow to warm up for a few minutes. When feeding press it very slowly... if the baby can't eat it fast enough you're going to fast... a smaller syringe is handier as you run less of a risk of spraying it too hard and getting it into it's lungs... A 100gram baby needs about 10ml of handfeeding during the day if it doesn't get anything from the mother or if it's an orphan. oviously the handfeeding has to be spread out 5 or six times during the day ideally. They get very attached to you but only resort to handfeeding if absolutely necessary. It carries a much bigger risk then their own mother's milk. I've read it being recommended so softly rub their belly with a moist small piece of towel after feeding in order to stimulate their digestion and have them do their toilet stuff. any questons? Thank you for your Comments!! *keep in mind that in other countries there's lots of guinea pigs especially in shelters like in the States and Europe... please don't breed because it's very risky! I lost my favorite piggy due to this...

Vitamin C is WORTHLESS without Vitamin D

Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com Get the Apparel I Wear at http://www.Hylete.com Vitamin C is WORTHLESS without Vitamin D - Thomas DeLauer Vitamin C & Immune Cells Vitamin C produces beneficial effects on virtually all of the immune system’s cells: Natural killer (NK) cells: NK cells move in on infectious and malignant targets - Vitamin C helps NK cells track and destroy tumor cells as well by reducing the shielding effect of platelets (blood clotting cell fragments) that would prevent NK cells from destroying them Neutrophils: are the main immune system cell for fighting bacterial infections. Neutrophils engulf invading organisms, then destroy them with powerful blasts of short-lived oxygen free radicals. Vitamin C supports many aspects of neutrophil function, aiding in their ability to chase down bacterial targets and improving their ability to engulf and kill such targets Lymphocytes: are immune system cells that produce antibodies (called B-lymphocytes) and coordinate with other immune cells to guide them towards threats needing destruction. When they detect a threat, lymphocytes rapidly reproduce in a proliferative response that is enhanced in the presence of vitamin C Vitamin D & T Cells For T cells to detect and kill foreign pathogens such as clumps of bacteria or viruses, the cells must first be 'triggered' into action and 'transform' from inactive immune cells into killer cells that are primed to seek out and destroy foreign pathogens T cells rely on vitamin D in order to activate and they would remain dormant, 'naïve' to the possibility of threat if vitamin D is lacking in the blood When a T cell is exposed to a foreign pathogen, it extends a signaling device (vitamin D receptor) with which it searches for vitamin D This means that the T cell must have vitamin D or activation of the cell will cease - if the T cells cannot find enough vitamin D in the blood, they won't even begin to mobilize T cells that are successfully activated transform into one of two types of immune cell: They either become killer cells that will attack foreign pathogens or they become helper cells that send messages to the immune system, passing on knowledge about the pathogen so that the immune system can recognize and remember it at their next encounter It was found that while Vitamin C deficiency “potentiated effects of Vitamin D deprivation and impaired a restorative action of Vitamin D” References 1) Forrest KY and Stuhldreher WL. New Video! Vegetables for Guinea Pigs!

12:10
Video to show what veggies are good for guinea pigs, what I feed my pigs and how much. Hope this helps! Though I said I feed carrots everyday, I may change this to an occasional food as I've read on websites that everyday is too often. However often different sources advise you differently! So it can get confusing! Also the reason for brocolli to be fed sparingly is because it can cause gas, along with other cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, sprouts and cauliflower) but this does not mean you should avoid it completely! A varied diet is best and most interesting for your guinea pig. Spinach, kale and parsley must also be fed sparingly because of their high oxalic acid content (this is agreed in all good websites/books that give information on guinea pig diet). The daily requirement of vitamin C is 10mg per day (Seagull's Guinea Pig Compendium). Though you can calculate the amount to make sure your piggies are getting enough, in my view as long as they get a good amount of fresh vegetables everyday and have pellets with added vitamin C, they will get enough. But make sure you do include veggies very high in vitamin C such as peppers and spring greens which both have over 70mg per 100g. Just relying on pellets for vitamin C is not advised, as although they advertise high amounts, it degrades very quickly. Some people give vitamin C supplements via tablets or dissolved in water. I don't do this but would consider it if one of my pigs got ill as it could help them recover faster. I have also read that Coriander (Cilantro) is very good for piggies and mine haven't had any yet so I will have to see if anywhere close has some! General vegetaables to be avoided are anything grown from a bulb, such as onion, garlic and leek. Also potatoes, mushrooms, chilli peppers, tomato leaves (make sure you remove the poisonous green top if you feed tomatoes) and rhubarb. Also I forgot to mention iceberg lettuce, which should NOT be fed! Romaine, round and gem lettuces are all good but iceberg is too watery and can lead to loose stools. Celery must also be chopped up small to avoid choking on the stringy parts! Throw out any veg that hasn't been finished off overnight, particularly if your pigs live in a hutch as flies can be attracted! So overall, don't be daunted by the amount of information about what to feed and how much. The most important things are that 1. They get enough everyday 2. Foods high in vit C are included and 3. Foods listed as occasional aren't given too often. I hope this has helped and if you have any questions feel free to message me :)

Hay grass guinea pigs

00:35
It is a matter of life or death for guinea pigs to have unlimited access to a good quality hay. My little big friend, Pysio loves his timothy hay made by Oxbow. Lack of hay in diet leads to deadly teeth overgrowth (malocclusion). I know of very few veterinarians who can treat it successfully. So remember, save your guinea pig with unlimited access to hay. Also, give them fresh grass, they love it. Supplement all with good quality grass pellets, and some fresh vegetables. At all times, guineas need access to clean fresh water, and don't forget about vitamin C, and lots of LOVE... they will reciprocate 10,000x. Music: Bold Prediction by Paul Mottram

Charlie and Fudge getting their Vitamin C

03:02
Giving their pigs their daily vitamin c while they are romping around the frontroom exploring and enjoying themselves. Guinea pigs should have about 100mg of vitamin c daily since their bodies can not produce their own. It is water soluble so they can't overdose on it. In the end Charlie starts popcorning and galloping around the whole room very excited, and there is a short scuffle between the two unruly and rambunctious boys. I use regular drugstore pure vitamin C tablets, they seem to like them. Charlie is a male silkie breed of guinea pig. Fudge is a male rex breed of guinea pig. We rescued them from a shelter in January 2009. The cage you see in the background is not their permanent cage it is their travel cage for when they visit my mom. Their forever-home is a much bigger cubes & coroplast cage. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information on guinea pig care please visit: http://www.cavyspirit.com/ http://www.guineapigcages.com/ http://www.guinealynx.info/ As a side note on my pet posts, I often get comments about how much people "want one." I encourage you to read up on the proper care and treatment of all of these critters that you want. A pet is not a fashion accessory, collectible, or spur-of-the-moment item, it is a living thing that requires a commitment of MANY YEARS and needs proper care, housing, nutrition, and most importantly attention. It also has hidden costs such as vet bills and food expenses. It is a big responsibility. As a plea for animal welfare I give you this: If you love guinea pigs and want one, I encourage you to adopt and rescue pigs (and all of your pets) from shelters and rescues rather than pet stores. Pet stores often support and buy their animals from mass breeders; people who mistreat, abuse, and neglect animals and are only in it for the profit. If the pet you want can't be found in a shelter, then do your best to find a private breeder. A great place to start looking for pets in need of rescue is Petfinder: http://www.petfinder.com/ This is the site from which we found and adopted Fudge and Charlie. So many animals are homeless and need a place to live, do your part and rescue them.

Guinea pigs are little, agreeable, "talkative" rodents. There are distinctive breeds and assortments of guinea pigs, with a wide assortment of shading and coat lengths.Guinea pigs are generally considered as great first pets for kids, yet it ought to dependably be a grown-up that assumes liability to guarantee they are appropriately taken care of and minded for.Typically guinea pigs live for 5-6 years, yet some may live more. Vitamin C a magical pill-what happens when you take Vitamin C daily

Vitamin C a magical pill-what happens when you take Vitamin C daily Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a water - soluble vitamin that’s exceptionally easy to absorb and can be taken in quite high doses. It has a venerable history and was made famous in the 1980s when Dr. Linus Pauling (the only person to receive two Nobel prizes in a lifetime) pioneered its use for treating terminal cancer patients and preventing the common cold. By using doses of 20 grams or more a day (20,000 milligrams), he was able to keep terminal cancer patients alive for much longer than others with the same cancers who didn’t dose up on vitamin C. Those who have followed in Pauling’s footsteps have also shown how vitamin C can help prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular disease (heart attacks). Dr. John Ely, a brilliant researcher at the University of Washington, told me years ago: “ Ten grams of vitamin C on the fi rst day of a cold always works. After that it never works. ” I’ve found his words to be true, as have many of my patients. Vitamin C is vital for the proper functioning of our white blood cells, which fight off the invading bacteria and viruses that lead to colds and flu. Eating sugar and smoking cigarettes robs our bodies of this invaluable nutrient. So does breathing in toxic air in cities. It’s been estimated that one cigarette uses up as much as 200 milligrams of vitamin C. This might not sound like much, but the RDA for vitamin C is only 60 milligrams — the amount needed to keep us from developing scurvy! Vitamin C is also necessary for the functioning of the phase 1 enzymes in the liver, enhancing the clearance of toxins from the bloodstream; a deficiency of vitamin C leads to diminished clearance from the blood and greater toxic effects. Besides aiding in clearance, vitamin C helps increase the excretion of these compounds from the body. And along with vitamin E, vitamin C also protects us from the lung damage that ozone causes. So if you live in a city, especially if you’re a runner or a cyclist, you need to be taking vitamin C daily. I tell people that if they live in a city, they should take at least 3,000 milligrams of vitamin C a day. And if they’re smokers or are in traffic. In a word, vitamin C is indispensable. I’ve been taking 4,000 milligrams a day for the past twenty years. Vitamin C is also important for excretion and the production of bile acids, which are toxins ’ actual means of transport out of the liver. In a study of guinea pigs (the other mammals besides humans that don’t manufacture their own vitamin C), short - term vitamin C deficiency reduced the levels of vitamin C in the liver by 25 percent and led to a 50 percent reduction in both the amount produced and the effectiveness of the bile that was present. Guinea Pigs! What, Where, and How

09:31
-- Looking for more awesome animal stuff? The Nature Of Things--The Curious Case of Vitamins and Me (CBC)

44:03
From: http://www.cbc.ca http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/episodes/the-curious-case-of-vitamins-and-me 22-Oct. 20015 We all think we know vitamins – and we’re told they’re essential – but why do really need them and why can’t we produce them on our own? These are a few questions on the mind of intrepid filmmaker and health-freak Bryce Sage who travels from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco to get to the bottom of the vitamin mystery. Bryce figures a good place to start is the 'daily values' numbers making up the nutrition guidelines on most of our food labels, which takes him to the National Institutes of Health to decode how those numbers are calculated. While a balanced diet is surely the best way to get our vitamins, Bryce learns we may not be getting exactly what we need because of nutrition declines due to modern agricultural practices. But before we turn to supplements, Bryce wants to know more. He visits a supplement factory to understand where they originate and even gets his blood tested for deficiency levels because he’s no stranger to playing the human guinea pig. He’ll investigate whether there’s such thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to vitamins. Maybe the answers aren’t so black and white. What roles do geography and skin colour play in our need for Vitamin D, and could our genetics affect our individual needs for other vitamins? With vitamins and supplements in the controversial media spotlight – some singing their health-boosting praises and other claiming they cause cancer – the time is now to answer these questions.

Alzheimer's caused by a diet lacking eggs.

05:03
I take 3,000 mcg of selenium daily to prevent Alzheimer's.

Handfeeding Cavy Baby Part1

01:00
