5 Reasons Armour thyroid Isn't Helping you with Weight Loss

21:44
In this video I go over the 5 main reasons that patients who switch from Levothyroxine to Armour thyroid DON'T lose weight. Many patients believe that switching from T4 to NDT will cause immediate weight loss and are disappointed when it doesn't happen. The truth is that Armour thyroid CAN help with weight loss but you need to make sure that these 5 barriers aren't standing in your way: 1. Your dose isn't high enough - Many Doctors under dose patients when converting from T4 medication to NDT by about 50%. Use the chart in this video to make sure your dose is high enough. 2. You need more T3 added to your regimen - Several conditions like euthyroid sick syndrome or tissue level hypothyroidism make it so patients need more T3 than what Armour thyroid provides. So while armour may be a step in the right direction you may need more T3 added to your NDT. 3. You are suffering from Leptin resistance - High leptin levels decrease T4 to T3 conversion and can make weight loss impossible unless it is addressed. Use this video to help you find out if you have leptin resistance and if you need to treat it. 4. You are reacting to fillers in Armour thyroid - Many patients react poorly to the methylcellulose that is used in Armour thyroid. It can reduce the amount of free thyroid hormone that is absorbed when you take this medication. Make sure this isn't limiting the amount of thyroid hormone your body can absorb! 5. Your Reverse T3 is TOO high - High levels of reverse T3 effectively put the brake on your thyroid system and can result in a slow metabolism and symptoms of hypothyroidism. Taking T4 only medications and even sometimes NDT like armour thyroid can cause high levels of reverse T3. Find out how to treat and check for this condition. More information in the video and the full blog post can be found here: http://www.restartmed.com/armour-thyroid-weight-loss/ You can read more on my website here: https://www.restartmed.com/ This video is not intended to be used as medical advice. Armour Thyroid - Best Natural Hypothyroidism Treatment

02:20
http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org | Hypothyroidism Natural Treatment - Cure The Disease Naturally http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org | Hypothyroidism is a condition which usually goes unnoticed for a long time. It is a condition where the thyroid gland is not able to produce enough hormones leading to weight gain, fatigue, insomnia, brittle and dry skin, constipation, dry hair, memory loss, depression, no menses and thickened tongue. People suffering from these symptoms may have to consult a doctor immediately and take the necessary medical help. You can also make use of hypothyroidism natural treatment to get rid of this condition. A person suffering from hypothyroidism may have low levels of hormones like T3 and T4. So a simple way of treatment includes either providing the hormones to the body or helping the body to produce these hormones according to the requirement. Sometimes, the patients are also given hormone treatment which uses natural or synthetic hormones. Synthetic hormones are not very favorable because some of them may develop side effects also. Natural cures for the condition come in different forms of supplements of vitamins and minerals like selenium, iodine, tyrosine, bladder wrack, thyroid glandular and coconut oil. Iodine is very important for producing the thyroid hormones. When it is mixed with amino acids it is transformed to T3 hormones. In the same way, selenium is very important in the production of T4 hormones. Amino acid tyrosine is also very important for producing the hormones. A natural powder called thyroid granular is taken from pigs, cows, and sheep. It helps to improve the overall functioning of the thyroid gland. Bladder wrack is rich in iodine content and helps the gland to function properly. Coconut oil is also a very useful natural component used to treat hypothyroidism. It raises the body temperature and metabolism. The most important part of natural cure is controlling your diet. Iodine rich foods are very useful for treating hypothyroidism. Foods rich in iodine like organic vegetables, seafood and shell fish etc should also be consumed in large quantities. Foods like spinach, broccoli, peanuts, cassava, soybeans and millets reduce the function of the thyroid gland, so you have to avoid these foods. By trying various hypothyroidism natural treatment options you will be able to treat the condition effectively. Use of supplements containing vitamin A, B, C, E and D are very useful.

Hypothyroidism case study 40 pound weight loss over 6 months with before/after pictures

28:06
Video #2 in a weight loss with hypothyroidism video series. This video represents an actual hypothyroid patient from my practice who lost 40 pounds over 6 months with before/after pictures. You will immediately notice her changes in the picture above and I walk you through in detail how YOU can get these types of changes as well. Hypothyroid patients almost always have difficulty with weight loss due to a variety of reasons. Most patients wrongly believe that their weight loss problem is due primarily to a lack of thyroid hormone and that's where they are wrong. Low thyroid hormone by itself causes a slow metabolism but it also causes and encourages other hormone imbalances. Specifically, it leads to insulin resistance, leptin resistance, and even estrogen/progesterone imbalances. It is these changes that make future weight loss impossible. So that means focusing on thyroid hormone alone generally won't result in significant weight loss. Even adding on NDT or T3 to your regimen will likely result in 5-10 pounds of weight loss at MOST. Compare that to focusing on the other hormone imbalances and you can see the advantage in this case study above. I show you exactly how to test for the following hormone imbalances: 1. Adrenal related issues (checking cortisol levels) 2. Thyroid resistance (by checking free T3 and reverse T3) 3. Low testosterone (by checking free and total testosterone) 4. Estrogen dominance (by checking estradiol + progesterone) 5. Checking for leptin resistance (by checking fasting serum leptin levels) 6. Checking for insulin resistance (by checking fasting insulin and Hgb A1c) I also go over the treatment for each of these conditions and show you how the patient above was able to get these results. This particular patient has Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but this will also work for patients who have hypothyroidism. In addition, I go over how to correctly pick the right diet to allow for weight loss in this patient population. Get Dr. Berg's Keto and IF Summary pdf: https://m.me/drericberg?ref=w1162195 Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course: http://pxlme.me/-i717vtY Dr. Berg talks about if you need thyroid hormones if you have no thyroid gland. The answer is yes, but try to find a natural thyroid hormone because it makes multiple hormones. The T4 and T3 hormones are only made by the thyroid but coverted by the liver so it's not just a matter of taking thyroid hormones, its a matter of them being effective, so if your liver or gallbladder are a problem, then you may have thyroid hormones, but they are not becoming activated. How To Take Levothyroxine Properly | Best Way To Take Thyroid Medication | When To Take Synthroid

03:25
How To Take Synthroid Properly | Best Way To Take Levothyroxine Correctly | When To Take Thyroid Medication After Eating Hey guys! This weeks video is all about how to take your thyroid medication properly to get the most out of it. Levothyroxine is a medicine used to treat an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) which affects 1 in 70 women and 1 in 1,000 men in the UK. The thyroid gland makes thyroid hormone which helps to control energy levels and growth. Levothyroxine is taken to replace the missing thyroid hormone. KEY FACTS: • Levothyroxine starts working straight away, but it may be several weeks before your symptoms start to improve. • The most common side effects of levothyroxine are caused by taking a bigger dose than you need. Your doctor can lower your dose to help reduce any side effects. • Before you start taking levothyroxine, your healthcare professional will do a blood test to see what dose you need. Once you start taking the medicine you'll have regular blood tests to see how well it’s working. HOW AND WHEN TO TAKE: • Unless told otherwise by your prescriber or healthcare professional take levothyroxine once a day in the morning, ideally at least 30-60 minutes before having breakfast or a drink containing caffeine like tea or coffee. • Both breakfast and caffeinated drinks can stop your body taking in levothyroxine properly so it doesn't work as well. • If you can't take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach take levothyroxine at least 2 hours after eating food. • If you buy any medicines, check with a pharmacist that they are safe to take with levothyroxine. Levothyroxine should not be taken at the same time as indigestion remedies or preparations containing calcium or iron (which are contained in some vitamin products). These types of medicines reduce the amount of levothyroxine absorbed by your body. Leave at least 2-4 hours between taking your dose of levothyroxine and any such preparation. • Soya interferes with thyroxine absorption, therefore if you are taking thyroxine you should try to avoid soya. If you wish to take soya, there should be as long a time interval as possible between eating the soya and taking the thyroxine. • Avoid products such as kelp, as they may interfere with thyroid function & wellbeing. Kelp is derived from seaweed and is naturally high in iodine. Because of this it is sometimes marketed as a "thyroid booster" and can be purchased in dry preparations and tablets. As with iodine itself, it is of no health benefit to those with thyroid disease. • Levothyroxine medication interactions link - https://bnf.nice.org.uk/interaction/levothyroxine.html (THIS LINK ONLY WORKS IF YOU LIVE IN THE UK. -Here's an alternative, pop in all your medicines and check for specific interactions- https://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html BLOOD TESTS: Your healthcare professional will do regular blood tests to check the levels of thyroid hormones in your body before and after starting levothyroxine. These will allow your doctor to adjust your dose to suit you. At the start of treatment you can expect to have blood tests often. Once your hormone levels are stable, you’ll usually have a blood test after 4 to 6 months, and after that once a year. You may need blood tests more often if you: • Are pregnant • Start or stop a medicine that can interfere with levothyroxine • Have any symptoms that could mean your dose is not quite right MISSED DOSES: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. In which case just skip the forgotten dose. Do not take 2 doses together to make up for a missed dose. If you forget doses often, it may help to set an alarm to remind you. You could also ask your pharmacist for advice on other ways to help you remember to take your medicine. Want to see more videos about everything health and pharmacy? NP Thyroid vs Armour Thyroid: Cost & Ingredient Differences

07:55
NP Thyroid is a form of natural desiccated thyroid hormone which is similar but different than Armour thyroid. Both medications contain the same active ingredients but they differ in the inactive ingredients. This small difference can greatly impact how you feel when you use or take these medications. Armour thyroid contains the following ingredients: Triiodothyronine (active ingredient) Thyroxine (active ingredient) Calcium stearate Dextrose Microcrystalline cellulose (May cause reactions in some people Sodium starch glycolate Opadry white Minor amounts of calcitonin, T1, T2, and proteins NP thyroid contains the following ingredients: Triiodothyronine (active ingredient) Thyroxine (active ingredient) Calcium stearate Dextrose monohydrate Maltodextrin Mineral oil Minor amounts of calcitonin, T1, T2, and proteins You can see from the list that NP thyroid has slightly fewer ingredients and may be better tolerated for some people. In addition, NP thyroid is also cheaper when compared to Armour thyroid. The Thyroid Body Type

01:48
http://www.findyourbodytype.com The Thyroid Body Type. Your predominant characteristic is "weight gain all over". You most likely have a stubborn or slowed metabolism and the type of fat you accumulate is a spongy, waste-like product. In Stage One, you may have noticed some hair loss. You may start losing the outer part of your eye brows and get loose skin underneath your chin and arms. By stage 2, your nails become brittle, you will have some constipation and your feet feel cold; especially at night. Cravings start to kick in as a need for quick energy; since your body has lost its ability to absorb vitamins and nutrients from food. You will find yourself craving "quick energy sources" like breads, pasta, cereals, crackers, biscuits, pan cakes, muffins, Juices, and even alcohol. By Stage 3, The Thyroid Type experiences chronic fatigue and a feeling of depression. You may feel that you cannot handle any stress. You find yourself suffering from exhaustion despite how many hours of sleep you get. Take a look around and you'll notice something interesting about people's bodies - most of them fall into 4 shapes. To find your body type take this short survey at http://www.drberg.com

Medications tend to not work but after the doctors played around with the dose, she finally said forget it "I would rather be fat and happy then skinny and a zombie." How To Lose Weight With Hypothyroidism

05:12
For more details, click here: http://dietvsdisease.org/how-to-lose-weight-with-an-underactive-thyroid/ To subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/c/DietvsDiseaseOrg?sub_confirmation=1 Losing weight and keeping it off can be a struggle. Especially if you have an underactive thyroid. Your metabolism has slowed down and you’re almost always feeling tired. In this video we're looking at 4 steps required to successfully lose weight with hypothyroidism. TITLE - How To Lose Weight With Hypothyroidism Slide - 1. Optimise Your Thyroid Medication If your medication is not helping to correct thyroid hormone levels, as well as relieve symptoms, then weight loss goes from difficult to impossible. Determine what type of medication is better for you, and also find the optimal dose required. While Levothyroxine is on average more effective, dessicated thyroid is a useful alternative that is reportedly much better tolerated. There is no difference between taking your thyroid hormone meds in the morning vs evening. Choose whatever is easier for you to have it on a fasting stomach. SLIDE 2. Cut Back on Added Sugars and Refined Starches I need to begin with this clarification: Carbohydrates are not inherently bad for you. That is, they do not make you fat or sick on their own. That said, carbs in the form of added sugars and highly refined starches are unhealthy and unnecessary. They offer almost zero nutritional benefit and make up a large portion of the excess calories we consume. Cutting back on added sugar is the most simple and direct way to cut out excess “empty” calories. This is done by limiting intake of junk foods, flavoured drinks, alcohol, white bread, most cereals, and a good portion of packaged food in your supermarket’s “health food” aisle. Now it’s unrealistic (and unfair) to expect yourself to completely avoid added sugar every day of the year. But you need to begin taking actionable steps that help you cut back and form healthier habits. Start by not having junk foods at home, or at least keep them out of sight in a cupboard you never use. 3. Base Meals Around Vegetables and Protein If you want to lose weight with an underactive thyroid, vegies and a source of protein should be the foundation of almost every meal you make, and plated first when serving. The main benefit of protein is that it’s much more satiating than both fat and carbs. That means it has a unique ability to reduce appetite and therefore your overall caloric intake too. STUDY - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8862477, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15466943 Studies show high protein diets may also reduce obsessive thoughts about food by 60% and cut desire for late-night snacks by half (3, 4). Foods high in protein include meat, seafood, eggs, nuts, legumes (beans) and dairy. Protein is also the muscle-building nutrient, so a high protein diet complements regular exercise. Nutrient-dense meals are even more important for those with hypothyroidism and other autoimmune diseases, where nutrient absorption and deficiency are more common. Emphasis goes to green leafy vegetables, mushrooms and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. As a general guide, the protein portion of your meal should be the size of your palm, and salad/vegetables the size of your hand. This would leave about 1/4 or less of your plate for healthy carbs if you so choose (such as rice or potato). 4. Increase Your Intake of Selenium and Zinc Selenium and zinc are two critical nutrients directly involved in thyroid function and metabolism. Selenium is an essential mineral that helps the body to recycle iodine. That’s the reason the thyroid has the highest selenium content (per gram of tissue) of all our organs. It’s thought that low selenium levels contribute to hypothyroidism through alternate mechanisms related to iodine. For this reason it’s fundamental to eat a diet that contains many selenium-rich foods, such as: Brazil nuts Tuna and sardines Beef and chicken Eggs Legumes Zinc is an essential mineral required to regulate TSH, which is a hormone from the brain that controls how much thyroid hormone your thyroid produces. In fact, the metabolism of zinc and thyroid hormones are closely interlinked, which is why a deficiency can lead to alopecia (hair loss). While zinc deficiency is very uncommon in the developed world, it’s still recommended to eat a variety of zinc-rich foods (8). This includes: Oysters and shellfish Beef and chicken Legumes, nuts and seeds Milk and yoghurt. Okay so I hope you found those 4 tips useful... In all honesty I've only JUST scratched the surafce here, there are certainly more steps to follow on after these ones. To find out more you can click the link in the description or on the youtube card where I've written about hypothyroidism and much more detail. Dietitian: Joe Leech (MSc Nutrition)

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT WITH AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID - how to diet with an underactive thyroid

02:18
HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT WITH AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID If you want to lose weight with an underactive thyroid vegies and a source of protein should be the foundation of almost every meal you make and plated first when serving... Losing weight and keeping it off can be a struggle. Especially if you have an underactive thyroid. Your metabolism has slowed down and you’re almost always feeling tired. Optimise Your Thyroid Medication Correcting your thyroid medication is first priority. While Levothyroxine is on average more effective, Armour is reportedly much better tolerated Cut Back on Added Sugars and Refined Starches Added sugar makes up a large portion of the excess calories the average person consumes each day. Cutting down is critical if you want to successfully lose weight. Base Meals Around Vegetables and Protein Protein foods and vegetables should make up the majority of your plate. They are generally the most filling and/or nutrient- dense foods per calorie. Increase your intake of Selenium and Zinc Consuming a diet naturally rich in selenium and zinc is critical for thyroid health and function. Go for lots of seafood, legumes, nuts and seeds. Take regular walks or start lifting weights each week Regular exercise helps to kick- start weight loss and increase strength. If mobility is a problem, lifting weights or bodyweight exercises are a great alternative. Trial The Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP) Trialing the Autoimmune Protocol is an option if you have Hashimoto’s disease. It may help given its (theoretical) influence on inflammation and highly restrictive nature

Thyroid Conversion Chart - Armour thyroid vs Synthroid vs T3

14:43
In this video I explain how to convert from armour thyroid to levothyroxine or from levothyroxine to T3. It is based off of a thyroid conversion chart that I create which is more accurate than the traditional conversion chart used by most Doctors. If you can convince your Doctor to switch you from Levothyroxine or T4 to NDT then make sure you are getting the right dose. Many providers and patients make the mistake of lowering their total dose of thyroid hormone when doing this process and feel worse afterwards. By using the chart above you can get the proper dose of NDT, T4 or Armour thyroid when converting. Here are some basic guidelines: In these examples NDT = Armour thyroid, WP thyroid or Naturethroid 50mcg of T4 = 1 grain of NDT = 25 mcg of T3 100mcg of T4 = 2 grains of NDT = 50mcg of T3 150mcg of T4 = 3 grains of NDT = 75mcg of T3 200mcg of T4 = 4 grains of NDT = 100mcg of T3 In addition I also give some practical advice on how to switch from T4 only medications like Levothyroxine to Natural Desiccated thyroid medications like Armour thyroid. In general I recommend starting the titration slow and periodically increasing your total dose every 10-14 days to prevent negative side effects from the T3. I also go over some of the average dosages of patients on T4, NDT and T3 in my practice. These numbers vary based off of the individual but these ranges can help determine if your dose is high enough. Does Cytomel Help with Weight Loss? Dosing guide + How to use it

21:54
Cytomel is a thyroid medication which contains T3. T3 is the active thyroid hormone which is responsible for the majority of actions related to your thyroid. That means T3 directly stimulates increased energy production, increased fat burn and increased metabolism. Through these mechanisms, and many others, cytomel and T3 can actually help certain thyroid patients to lose weight and feel better. Patients who should consider using T3 include: - Those with high reverse T3 levels. - Those with insulin resistance, leptin resistance or obesity. - Those with a history of bipolar disorder or depression. - Those with a history of fibromyalgia or chronic pain. - And lastly, those patients who have failed T4 only medications like synthroid or Levothyroxine. In this video I also outline how to use T3 and how to titrate your dose. How to lose weight with Hypothyroidism - 5 Case Studies and Real Life Examples

23:23
If you have hypothyroidism you know how hard it can be to lose weight. I've been helping patients with hypothyroidism lose weight by balancing their hormones and that's exactly what this video is about. I walk you through 5 step-by-step examples of how to do it. If you watched the vide these are the supplements I've referred to: Berberine: http://amzn.to/2aB79Dy DIM: http://amzn.to/2aB7eak Indole 3 carbinol: http://amzn.to/2asBLUW High quality progesterone: http://amzn.to/2aEPsDx These are the same steps I use in my practice: 1. Reverse and treat insulin resistance if present - high levels of insulin make burning fat as a fuel source almost impossible. Up to 50% of patients have insulin resistance on TOP of hypothyroidism and I've found that to be even higher in most patients I treat. 2. Treat leptin resistance and thyroid resistance if present - You need to make sure you check your reverse T3/free T3 ratio (it should be greater than 0.2), if it is lower than you have thyroid resistance and need T3. If your leptin levels are greater than 12 then you need to consider treatment with a GLP-1 agonist. Remember that thyroid resistance and leptin resistance go together! 3. Reverse Estrogen dominance if present (or low progesterone) - Remember to use urine testing for these hormones so that you can find ALL metabolites and figure out which step is blocked in your body. If necessary you may need to consider using bio-identical progesterone cream (link above). 4. Treat low testosterone if present - Low testosterone can cause weight gain, mood changes and low energy. Many women who suffer from insulin resistance ALSO suffer from low testosterone. 5. Adrenal fatigue and elevated cortisol levels - High levels of adrenal hormones (cortisol) can cause weight gain and lead to constant fatigue. Make sure to check your cortisol and cortisone levels in the urine at 4 points throughout the day. I recommend going through ALL of these steps in THIS order so you can finally lose weight with hypothyroidism. Using these steps I've been able to help patients lose weight about 98% of the time. WP Thyroid Weight Loss: 55 pounds over 6 months with Before/After pictures

26:22
This video will walk you through a thyroid case study in which I show you how WP thyroid lead to weight loss in a patient of mine with before and after pictures. The combination of the right type of thyroid medication, plus managing hormones leads to significant weight loss in hypothyroid patients. Many patients wrongly believe that adding in thyroid medication will lead to significant weight loss and that is rarely the cause. In this example I walk you through: - How to decide which thyroid medication is best for your body, including going over the differences between WP Thyroid vs naturethroid vs armour thyroid - How to properly evaluate your blood tests to determine what is causing weight loss resistance in your body - How to address hormone imbalances other than hypothyroidism - What supplements to use to help with weight loss - How important diet, exercise and lifestyle interventions are for helping hypothyroid patients lose weight (hint: not as important as you may think) I use the lab results from this patient case study to show you how I look at hypothyroid patients including what lab values I use and what does of medication I use. I hope you find this article helpful as you try to lose weight with hypothyroidism! If you have any questions please leave them below. Lose Weight Hypothyroidism

http://hypothyroidismsuccessstory.com/?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=Video&utm_term=Lose%20Weight%20Hypothyroidism&utm_campaign=Hypothyroidism | Lose Weight Hypothyroidism 0:24 Where is my weight coming from? 1:00 Foods in my diet that made me gain weight 1:25 Different hypothyroid diets I tried 1:50 What I did to lose weight 3:39 How juicing helped me lose weight and get more energy 5:15 Why foods in your diet are making you feel worse 7:30 Why you gain weight even if you eat clean and exercise When your thyroid is low, so is your metabolism. Gaining weight is so easy that I started to wonder whether I’d be able to lose weight at all. In late 2012, I’d purchased a new set of jeans since my old ones didn’t fit… I was quite shocked to find out just a couple weeks later that the new ones were starting to fit small. The rapid weight gain in such a short period of time compelled me to do something about my health. It wasn’t just the weight that concerned me. My eyes were puffy, my skin was dry, my hair was falling out of control as well, but the worst part was the fatigue. I had zero energy so taking up exercise was even harder. This is one thing most people don’t understand about hypothyroidism unless they have it themselves. This is not lazyness! As I was looking for a way to lose weight with a low thyroid, I found that the best way to go about it was going to be through two simple things: juicing, and fasting. See I had already attempted all sorts of diets like paleo diet, 80/10/10 diet, among many others. I was being told to buy all kinds of supplements, but they were all too expensive, not to mention usually not needed. Fasting was a much better option and it’s free!! Even better it actually saves money! There are many ways to fast, but the way that I started was to do a juice fast. I basically went as many days as I could without eating solid food and drinking only some sort of green juice or red juice. I originally set a goal to do it for three days, but after those three days I extended it to a full week. Before I knew it, I did a lot of juicing over a period of 90 days!! That was how my massive transformation happened and how I lost weight. The green juices were usually something like: 2 green apples 4 leaves of kale 1 cup of baby spinach 1 medium cucumber My red juices were just a simple ABC juice: Apple Beets Carrots I always use organic ingredients, and it’s important to note that beets are very powerful. If you have not had a beet juice before, I recommend you use only a small amount to start and build up. This was something that I started doing without planning to lose weight. It was more of a detox program I wanted to do and weight loss was simply a by product. This also set the foundation to do what I really needed to do to take control of my thyroid. If you are confused about thyroid medication names then this is the video for you. In this video, I break down how various thyroid medications differ from one another and what thyroid hormones that they contain. There are two main types of thyroid hormones: T4 and T3. Thyroid medications contain both or just one or the other of these hormones which impact how they work in your body. T4 only thyroid medications include: - Synthroid (Brand name) - Levothyroxine (Generic) - Tirosint (Brand name - special in that it only has 4 total ingredients) - Levoxyl - Unithroid - Euthyrox - Levo-T - Levothroid *T4 only thyroid medications MUST be activated by your body in order to be used. NDT (Natural Desiccated thyroid hormone) medications include: - Armour Thyroid (Brand name) - NP Thyroid (Generic for Armour Thyroid) - WP Thyroid - Nature-Throid - Thyrolar *NDT medications contain a combination of T4 and T3 thyroid hormone. T3 only thyroid medications: - Cytomel (Brand name) - Liothyronine (Generic) - SR T3 (Sustained release T3) *T3 thyroid medications come pre-activated and are the most powerful types of thyroid medications. There are many other thyroid medication names based on the country you live in but you can always figure out which type of thyroid medication you are taking by looking at the active ingredient. Hashimoto's Weight Loss: 9 Actionable Tips + Treatment Guide for Patients

33:30
Are you struggling to lose weight with Hashimoto's? In this post I outline the 9 steps that I use to help Hashimoto's patients lose weight in my practice. Hashimoto's patients need to be differentiated from other thyroid patients when it comes to treatment, but also when it comes to weight loss. If you didn't already know exercising more and eating less will NOT lead to lasting weight loss in Hashimoto's patients. I discuss the 4 main reasons for weight loss resistance that patients face that most doctors aren't even looking for: 1. Body set point malfunction - hypothalamic changes that make weight loss almost impossible. 2. Low resting metabolic rate or low resting energy expenditure (AKA slow or damaged metabolism) - Your metabolism controls the majority of your calorie consumption and a damaged metabolism will make weight loss very difficult. 3. Leptin resistance - High levels of leptin tricks your brain into thinking that your body is starving even though you are overweight. 4. Gut imbalances - Specifically SIBO and SIFO can cause inflammatory states which reduce thyroid conversion and lead to changes in microflora of the GI tract which causes weight loss resistance. These 4 topics are VERY important and these tips help treat them: 1. Check and treat your metabolism if damaged 2. Get on the right type and dose of thyroid medication - that generally means T3 in some form (NDT or T3) especially if you have insulin or leptin resistance 3. Find the best hashimoto's diet for YOUR body - that means anything ranging from AIP vs nutritional ketosis vs gluten free, dairy free, soy free 4. Make sure you are exercising (preferably HIIT + low intensity daily) 5. Address gut health - specifically SIBO/SIFO and malabsorption 6. Reduce inflammation in your body 7. Address adrenal related problems 8. Treat leptin and insulin resistance 9. Avoid endocrine disruptors and xenoestrogens (AKA make sure you are detoxing) Listen to the video for tips on how to treat each of these conditions and let me know if you have any questions below! 10 Important Tips for Taking Synthroid: Dosing, Side Effects, T3 Medications & More

18:27
Today is all about Synthroid. If you take this medication then you'll want to learn more about these 10 tips and tricks that you can use to help feel better. Synthroid is one of the most common thyroid medications used to treat hypothyroidism but it's not without problems. These tips are designed to help you find your optimal dose, help you understand if you are absorbing Synthroid, help you figure out if you need a new medication and more. 10 Tips to know when taking Synthroid: #1. Peripheral T4 to T3 conversion First off, you need to understand that Synthroid contains the inactive thyroid hormone T4. This means that in order for thyroid hormone to be utilized in your body it must first be activated through peripheral thyroid conversion. Several factors including genetics, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies and so on can impact this process. There are situations in which you may be taking enough Synthroid but your body is not able to activate it. #2. Absorption of Synthroid In order for your body to use Synthroid, it must also be absorbed in your intestinal tract! Several medications, supplements, and even foods can impact how much you absorb. Do your best to take Synthroid away from supplements such as Calcium and Iron which can limit absorption. #3. Are supplements helping or hurting you? Some supplements can decrease absorption but there are others that can help. The use of Selenium and Zinc can help your body activate Synthroid after it is absorbed. #4. The time of day that you take Synthroid Synthroid can be safely taken in the morning but it can also be taken at night. Studies have shown that patients who take it in the evening actually have higher free T4 and free T3! #5. Levothyroxine vs Synthroid: Are they the same? Levothyroxine and Synthroid both contain the same active ingredient but they are not considered bio-equivalents. Some patients do better on Synthroid over Levothyroxine so switching which one you take can impact how you feel. #6. Tirosint Tirosint is another T4 only medication but it is unique because it has the fewest inactive ingredients. Tirosint is more expensive than Synthroid but it can be used in cases where you may be reacting to fillers or dyes in Synthroid. #7. Dosage In order for Synthroid to work properly, you must be getting an adequate dose. You can ensure that you get a high enough dose by following all of the thyroid lab tests (more info below). #8. Switching to NDT or T3 medication Your thyroid naturally produces both T4 and T3 but Synthroid only has T4. In some cases, you may need to switch medications or add T3 in order to feel better. #9. The full thyroid lab panel While monitoring your dose you need to be looking at more than just the TSH. If you take Synthroid you should be looking at the following tests: - TSH - Free T3 - Total T3 - Free T4 - Reverse T3 These tests will give you an idea as to how your body is utilizing Synthroid. #10. Synthroid side effects Lastly, make sure that you watch our for the side effects of Synthroid which include: - Weight gain - Hair loss - Heart palpitations - Rashes - Headaches - Insomnia - Hot flashes - Changes in menstrual cycle Any of these side effects may indicate you need to switch medications! Meta-T3 ➡➡➡➡➡➡➡ http://4daythyroidfix.com/metat3/index2.html?aff_id=16838&subid=thyroidmetat3 This Is the Very Same Diet and Treatment Process That Works for Every Single One of My Clients, Including Those Suffering From Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis… Now YOU Can Follow the Exact Process That Took Me More Than 5 Months to Piece Together and That Has Helped Me and Over 17,000 People Overcome Hypothyroidism, Have Endless Energy, and Feel Like Their Younger Self — GUARANTEED — So You Can Get Back to Enjoying Life Again! The TRUTH About Hypothyroidism, Heart Disease, and Cancer… Every cell of your body relies on thyroid hormone to produce energy and to function properly. When you become hypothyroid and you can’t get the thyroid hormone that you need to your cells to keep them happy, it can negatively affect every cell, tissue, organ, and system within your body. Billions of dollars are spent every year trying to develop drugs and solve the riddles of many major diseases like heart disease and cancer. Despite an endless budget and an endless amount of resources, modern medicine continues to struggle and get nowhere in the “fight” against disease. The rates of all major diseases including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes continue to rise year after year after year. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates the number of cancer related deaths will double over the next 20 years. Yet, modern medicine continues to turn a blind eye to the research of some of the most brilliant scientists of the 20th and 21st centuries. TRUTH: Hypothyroidism Causes Heart Disease… Dr. Broda Barnes had proven the hypothyroidism heart disease connection as far back as the 1930’s. He even showed that heart disease could be reversed simply by correcting hypothyroidism. Yet, modern medicine simply ignores his research like it doesn’t even exist. Dozens of research studies since then have continued to prove the same connection, time and time again… RUTH: Hypothyroidism Drives Cancer Development… This trend of scientific ignorance is now continuing with cancer research as well. The work of other brilliant scientists, like Otto Warburg, who won the Nobel Prize almost a century ago for discovering and demonstrating the cellular defect that causes cancer, continues to be ignored by modern medicine to this day while more than a half a million people die of cancer every single year. Yet, even today research continues to prove what Otto Warburg discovered so many decades ago; hypothyroidism’s role in the development of cancer. TRUTH: If You Value Your Health Then You MUST Address Your Thyroid! Hopefully, you’re beginning to understand the significance of hypothyroidism and how it affects every single aspect of your health. Simply ignoring hypothyroidism or playing it off as something that isn’t important “right now” is a serious mistake that can have severe long term health consequences. That’s like ignoring a little roof leak instead of fixing it. Before you know you’re stuck in a house that invested with a major mold problem and you become sicker and sicker. Fixing the leak when you found it would have saved you a lot of time, money, and effort, not to mention the years of health problems. Your thyroid works the same way. You can change your future and your health from developing into a major medical complications by simply fixing the problem today. But, heart disease and cancer are not the only diseases that hypothyroidism leads to. Research continues to show hypothyroidism’s involvement in a number of diseases that all stem from the same metabolic dysfunction that hypothyroidism causes, including some of the fastest growing diseases in the world, like diabetes. While modern medicine continues to rely on the same illogical and poor thyroid testing methods, millions of people are misdiagnosed and wrongfully led to believe that their health issues stem from something other than hypothyroidism. Luckily, you’re smart enough not to fall into that trap. Leptin Resistance and Thyroid Resistance - 8 Steps to Reverse Both

23:45
This video will guide you through how to diagnose and treat both Leptin Resistance and Thyroid Resistance. Both of these conditions go hand in hand so its helpful to look for both if you suspect you have one or the other. Symptoms of Leptin resistance: - Weight loss resistance or the inability to lose weight - Ravenous appetite even after a large meal - Slow metabolism - Cold hands/feet/extremities - Crushing fatigue - Symptoms of hypothyroidism despite being on medication - Constant weight gain Thyroid resistance is defined as low free T3 relative to Reverse T3. In order to test for this condition you need to order both tests and look at the ratio between the two. The higher your reverse T3 the harder it is for free T3 to get into your cells which leads to thyroid hormone resistance at the cellular level. Treatment usually requires T3 medication in conjunction with the 8 tips below. 8 Steps to Reverse Leptin Resistance and Thyroid Resistance: 1. Get your thyroid evaluated and get on the right type and dose of thyroid medication - For most patients this means NDT or T3 containing medications like Cytomel or Liothyronine. 2. Add in HIIT (high intensity interval training) to your work outs - This type of burst training helps sensitize your cells to insulin and leptin. 3. Avoid processed and inflammatory foods - High levels of inflammation makes thyroid function worse and makes it more difficult to reverse leptin resistance. 4. Make sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep per night 5. Eliminate or drastically reduce your fructose consumption - Fructose is metabolized into uric acid in the liver and which increases inflammation and makes leptin levels worse. 6. Do not restrict your calories - Starvation mode lowers your basal metabolic rate and increases conversion of T4 to reverse T3. 7. Optimize T4 to T3 conversion - Use supplements or thyroid hormones: - Zinc: http://amzn.to/2aQF0pl - Selenium: http://amzn.to/2bffBKU 8. If necessary use medications to lower Leptin levels - Consider using GLP-1 agonists which can help lower leptin levels and help patients with weight loss. 10:11
Are you taking too much Synthroid? Synthroid is the most commonly prescribed medication in the US which means that millions of people are taking this medicine. Of those millions, there will always be a small percentage who are either taking too much or too little. We are going to focus on those people who are taking too much. Signs and Symptoms of Thyroid Problems, the Root of Your Weight Gain?

05:32
https://www.drlam.com/blog/signs-and-symptoms-of-thyroid-problems-the-root-of-your-weight-gain/22272/ This is Dr. Lam of drlam.com and the Adrenal Fatigue Center. Today we’re going to talk about the functional differences between T4 and T3 thyroid hormone. A lot of people are being put on thyroid hormone nowadays when they complain to the doctor of having fatigue and no other reasons could be found. The purpose of T4 in the body is to convert into T3, although T4 does have its own function. T4 is actually not the body’s main hormone although it is the most prominent and most high in terms of volume. The workhorse of the body’s thyroid hormones is actually T3, which is the biochemical daughter of T4. They both have their own individual purposes, although T4 in general is weaker, much weaker than T3. The body makes it in different proportion in order to have the proper use at the right time in the right place. So there is functional differences although they both increase metabolism. And both thyroid hormones have that function as the primary reasons for their existence. Now when you are given T4, and another trade name is Synthroid, the body converts the T4 automatically into T3, which is also called Cytomel if you’re taking it in the form of a medication. Some drugs, such as Armour Thyroid or Nature-Throid comes in a premixed percentage that has the T4 and T3 in the similar proportion as what is found in the body. So this attempts to mimic the body’s composition in terms of the circulating T4 and T3. Most people are started on T4 to begin with, or Synthroid is commonly used in the U.S. And if things don’t work as well then the doctor can add or switch to T3. There’s a good reason to do that. And it’s because, remember we said the T4 is really a precursor to T3 and is not as strong. Therefore, you allow the body’s feedback loops to be intact. If T4 is not working well, or if the body needs more or strong thyroid hormones such as T3, then they can be added. In some times the body can have resistance problems and develop many, many issues that stop the conversion from T4 to T3, and this is another situation where T3 may be used. Thyroid medication is a very complex subject. In the case of adrenal fatigue where it can lead to hypothyroid-type symptoms when the thyroid laboratory could be normal, this can further convolute the picture and can be quite confusing. Understanding the role that T4 and T3 makes in the body is very important. There’s so many signs and symptoms of thyroid problems including dry skin, losing eyebrows outer third, fatigue, reduced exercise capacity, weight gain. These are very common presenting complaints to any physician’s office. And it is very easy and it’s a commonly accepted practice for all the physicians to give a T4 and T3. Whether or not you should take it depends on the clinical situation. So you really need to discuss this matter closely with your doctor. If your fatigue is due to other reasons other than a primary thyroid problem, such as if you have anemia, or you have under severe stress, or you have adrenal weakness, then you don’t want to mask these problems. You want to basically deal with these issues at the root cause and then you can avoid taking thyroid medication. If you take thyroid medication for not the right reasons you can mask the underlying problem and that could have a long-term and negative effects. So understanding the thyroid functions, T4, T3, is important. And you should really talk to your doctor if you are already on, especially if your dosage had to be increased over time or if you’re not getting the benefit from the thyroid. Which all of which can means there’s some other issues going on that may need to be further investigated. Levothyroxine Side Effects - Complete List + Dosing Guide for Patients

21:10
In this video, I go over the complete list of Levothyroxine side effects ranging from weight gain to hair loss and everything in between. Yes, Levothyroxine can cause hair loss and it can also cause weight GAIN. How can that be if levothyroxine is supposed to boost your metabolism? In this video I explain how the metabolism of thyroid hormone in your body from T4 to reverse T3 may help explain why many people actually gain weight on this particular medication. I also go over the recommendations I give to patients if this happens to them. I also go over how to determine which thyroid medication is right for YOUR Body and how to dose your levothyroxine. When patients have reactions to levothyroxine it's from 1 of 3 reasons typically: 1) they are reacting to a filler ingredient or a dye within the medication itself. 2) they are converting or metabolizing the thyroid hormone into by products that don't promote proper activity 3) they are getting too much thyroid hormone for THEIR body (this one is less common) The side effects when patients react to fillers or dyes include reactions like facial swelling, edema, hives, itching sensation, etc. The side effects from improper metabolism include reactions like weight gain, hair loss, slower than normal metabolism, cold hands/extremities, etc. The side effects from TOO much medication include hot flashes, tachycardia or rapid heart rate, palpitations, hair loss, intolerance to heat. The treatment for each of these reactions is quite different and I explain what to do depending on how you are reacting. Leave your questions below! Is Synthroid Gluten-Free?

06:30
Is Synthroid Gluten-free? The answer is yes, based on a recent study which looked at all of the ingredients. But why is this important? It has to do with the fact that most hypothyroid patients suffer from Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an autoimmune condition of the thyroid gland. And about 5% of people with Hashimoto's also suffer from Celiac disease which is an autoimmune disease to gluten. That means that roughly 1 in 20 people with Hashimoto's will also not tolerate gluten. This study showed that the concentration of gluten in Synthroid was less than 3 parts per million which are below the acceptable amount of gluten in food products to be labeled as gluten-free. But just because it is gluten-free doesn't mean you won't potentially react when taking it. Synthroid still contains other inactive ingredients including aluminum, lactose, and other dyes and coloring agents which can all cause reactions. The best thing to do if you believe that you are reacting to these ingredients is to switch to a cleaner thyroid medication such as Tirosint. Tirosint has 3 inactive ingredients and 1 active ingredient making it the cleanest T4 medication. How Thyroid Medication Changes your Blood Pressure

09:54
Can taking thyroid medication alter your blood pressure? The answer is absolutely. It doesn't happen all the time, but certain types of thyroid medication can lead to a rise in your blood pressure. Your cardiac tissue (heart cells) have different thyroid receptors when compared to most other cells. As a result, they are particularly sensitive to T3 thyroid hormone. When they come into contact with T3 it can act to increase the force of contraction of your heart which increases both your heart rate and your blood pressure. What can you do about it? #1. Pay attention to your dose (if your dose is too high you may need to lower your medication). #2. Take your dose of medication several times throughout the day. - By splitting up your dose throughout the day you can slow down how much thyroid hormone hits your heart. #3. Consider switching to a different thyroid medication. - Lastly, if you can't find any relief from the steps above then you may need to switch medications entirely. Switching from one class of thyroid medication to another may work or switching to a different class entirely may be necessary.
