Will Lithium Shortage Kill The EV Industry?

06:10
First I thought we should talk about where you can find lithium today. The truth is it’s likely on your body right now, you may be holding it in your hand, or you’re looking directly at it. But you might be surprised to know it’s also used in things like tools, aerospace equipment, military applications and backup storage for our Electric grid. And of course, Tesla’s and other electric cars // Looking to buy a Tesla S or X? Use our referral code and instantly receive $1,000 off and Free Supercharging! (limited) Get Started - https://teslanomics.co/td // It is so good for batteries that 39% of all Lithium production goes towards battery production. So what is Lithium anyway? Lithium itself is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. It is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. Like all alkali metals, lithium is highly reactive and flammable. So this isn’t something you’d want just laying around your house. Especially if you have a toddler running around like I do... So Lithium is a metal so it must be mined right, like copper? Well, not exactly. It’s true lithium can be mined from rocks but mostly it’s found in brine pools. Lithium is also present in seawater but there aren’t any commercially viable methods of extracting it at this time As an aside when you see a meme floating around the internet showing a giant mine where lithium comes from, it’s a lie. As of 2017, most of the world's lithium production is in South America, where lithium-containing brine is extracted from underground pools and concentrated by solar evaporation. The standard extraction technique is to evaporate water from brine. Each batch takes from 18 to 24 months. With so much demand for lithium it’s a fair question to ask... Are Tesla and others doomed? Well…not really The US Geological Survey’s report for 2017 shows that "Worldwide lithium production increased by an estimated 12% in 2016 in response to increased lithium demand for battery applications. Production in Argentina increased nearly 60%, primarily owing to a new brine operation; the leading Argentine producer also increased production. A producer in Chile reported that its production rose by 20%. Two small Australian spodumene operations, one new and one inactive since 2013, planned to begin commercial concentrate production by year end. Worldwide lithium production capacity was reported to be 49,400 tons in 2015; capacity utilization was estimated to be 64% in 2015 and 71% in 2016. Based on average projections by producers and industry analysists of about 14% growth worldwide, consumption of lithium in 2016 is projected to be about 37,800 tons, up from 33,300 tons in 2015. So the trend is going up, but when you look at the overall picture you find that owing to continuing exploration, lithium resources have increased substantially worldwide. Identified lithium resources in the United States, from continental brines, geothermal brines, hectorite, oil field brines, and pegmatites, have been revised to 6.9 million tons. Identified lithium resources in other countries have been revised to approximately 40 million tons. Identified lithium resources in Argentina and Bolivia are about 9 million tons each and in major producing countries are Australia, more than 2 million tons; Chile, more than 7.5 million tons; and China, approximately 7 million tons. Canada’s lithium resources are about 2 million tons. Congo (Kinshasa), Russia, and Serbia have resources of about 1 million tons each. Lithium resources in Brazil and Mexico are approximately 200,000 tons each and Austria, and Zimbabwe have more than 100,000 tons each. Beyond just producing more lithium, companies like Tesla have focused on creating a closed-loop battery recycling program since as early as 2011. So while Tesla drivetrains are rated to go 1M miles, and the batteries will likely last to last north of 350K miles, once the cars do get turned in, Tesla isn’t going to just throw away those precious metals. If you’re an investor in companies reliant on lithium for their batteries such as Tesla, Apple, Google, or any other company making electronics today, you shouldn’t worry about the supply chain. We’ve got a long road ahead of us and probably by the time we need to worry about a shortage of Lithium we’ll have a new way to make batteries that are even better. // Join Our Community on Patreon! Reed on Neometals’ deal with the “largest most diverse lithium producer in China

11:16
December 9, 2016 -- Chris Reed, CEO & Managing Director of Neometals Ltd. (ASX: NMT), in an interview with InvestorIntel CEO Tracy Weslosky discuss the recent MOU with Mineral Resources, the recent shareholder update, and the significance of the deal with Ganfeng – “the largest most diverse lithium producer in China”. Starting with their progress on the development of a downstream lithium chemical plant that would produce battery quality lithium hydroxide product suitable for direct sales to the lithium-ion battery industry, Chris explains Neometals’ recent milestones and what interested investors may anticipate in the New Year for the company. Tracy Weslosky:  Chris you had a lot of news lately --- a terrific update for your shareholders in that you recently announced an MOU with Mineral Resources to further progress the development of a downstream lithium chemical plant that would produce battery quality lithium hydroxide product suitable for direct sales to the lithium-ion battery industry. Can you please provide the InvestorIntel audience with an update on this MOU please?  Chris Reed: Absolutely Tracy. Part of the transaction with Ganfeng last year was that they’re obligated to purchase the first three years’ production from the Mount Marion Mine. After the third production year, Mineral Resources and NeoMetals had the option then to buyback 51% of the offtake so that we could have a feed for our own downstream processing ambitions. You know, we have long wanted to become an integrated producer of lithium. The first step was to get the mine up and running as a concentrate producer and then in a couple of years’ time, because it actually takes that long --- once you completed the construction of the concentrator operation it takes you a number of years to permit and build a lithium down streaming plant. It is really just an affirmation now that the mine is moving into commercial production, that we are now in the final stages of the evaluation of downstream production of lithium hydroxide and it’s a commitment for both of us to advance that with a view that we can make a final investment decision in early 2017. Tracy Weslosky: Christopher Ecclestone was describing this as a superb deal and that shareholders may not truly appreciate the nuances of this deal. I think what he was trying to say was, number one, you have proven your extraction technology process works and perhaps you’d like to comment a little further about his analysis on this deal.  Chris Reed: I think Chris is certainly one of the few analysts that gets our overarching strategy and that’s one, to get the mine up and running, derisk that, at the same time develop the flowsheet for downstream processing. The deal with Ganfeng and I think one of the misunderstood barriers to entry to the lithium market is actually having a large customer to sell your product to. If you want to start up a good size mine you need to move a load concentrate. You need a large partner. Ganfeng are the largest most diverse lithium producer in China, certainly the fastest growing, multibillion dollar U.S. market cap and the ability, certainly over the last year that we’ve been dealing with them, to raise large amounts of equity. They’re actually moving beyond lithium conversion into cathode production and batteries. As you get further down the chain, the lithium value in that end product becomes less so they become a stronger partner, we’re able to get the mine up, they take a lot of production and then after 3-4 years of production we’re then able to take some of the feed and put it into our own down streaming plant. We’re doing it in two stages rather than having a half a billion dollar roll of the dice to start off with. We’ve done a deal with Australia’s largest processor of minerals where we’ve developed the world’s--- within 12 months we’ve constructed the world’s biggest hard rock lithium concentrator that’s twice as big as the plant down at Greenbushes…to access the complete interview, click here Disclaimer: Neometals Ltd. is an advertorial member of InvestorIntel.

11 Worst Pollutants in the World

08:22
Here are the 11 worst pollutants and the ones that have the most negative effects on the environment like slag and oil spill disaster. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 5. Slag No, that is not Nickelodeon getting rid of their leftover slime. What’s being dumped is slag. Slag is the leftover materials from ore after the desired material has already been extracted. Slag dumping was generally considered safe until recently. It has even commonly been repurposed for the process of creating cement. However, recent studies reveal that the leftover slag could be producing toxic levels of arsenic, lead, cadmium, barium, zinc and copper. The gradual weathering of the slag can pollute everything surrounding it, including the water and air. This isn’t all slag, though, the harmful effects are mostly caused by slag that is left over from refining copper, zinc, cadmium and other base metals. 4. Untreated Sewage Sewage isn’t really something that most people like to think about, but that doesn’t stop it from being a big problem. The untreated sewage contains human feces and wastewater that, obviously, have some pretty damaging effects. Raw sewage is often dumped into water supplies in poor areas of the world because there isn’t much of an alternative. Besides causing a plethora of dangerous diseases, the waste also destroys ecosystems and lowers the oxygen contents so that no life can survive in the water. The World Health Organization estimates that 2.6 billion people were affected by raw sewage dumping because there was no other way to dispose of it. WHO is making strides in extending access to modern sewage treatment to the communities that most need it. 3. Oil With the highly publicized BP Deepwater Horizon, the oil spill that happened in 2010 and is still affecting the United States and the Gulf of Mexico, the dangers of oil drilling is more well known than ever. The 580 tons of oil that were spilled wasn’t even the biggest oil spill in the world. Not even close. The biggest happened in Kuwait in 1991 when 136,000 tons of oil was spilled. Oil can devastate the local marine life. Oil is especially dangerous to animals with feathers or heavy fur because the oil can insulate them and make them more vulnerable to temperature, especially hypothermia, and reduce their buoyancy. Almost all of the birds affected by oil spills die without human intervention. Some studies say that oil spills are happening less, but that has been disputed. There has still been 9,351 accidental oil spill since 1974 and each one means that the surrounding ecosystem needs decades to recover from the accident. 2. Gold Mining Gold is pretty. It’s the gold standard for jewelry and that pun was most definitely intended. Our country was practically founded because of it. There are two processes for mining the mineral, though, and both are insanely dangerous. The two process are the cyanide process, which is the most common today, and the mercury process. It pretty obvious that with names like that it’s going to be dangerous. Cyanide is incredibly poisonous in tiny quantities and there have been massive cyanide spills throughout time because of the industry. The cyanide leaks have been known to poison fish in local rivers for long stretches. These leaks are considered by many to be massive environmental disasters. There is also a ton of waste produced from the mining. Thirty tons of ore are disposed of for every half pound of gold mined. The ore dumps also have major levels of cadmium, lead, zinc, arsenic, selenium and mercury. The danger of these dumps is second only to the danger of radioactive waste dumps. 1.Radiation Radioactive waste didn’t become a real problem until the birth of the nuclear power plant. Most of the radioactive waste that the world has is caused by nuclear fission or nuclear technology. The waste is maintained by the government, but leaks have been known to happen. The most notable cases of radiation damage can be found in Chernobyl. The leak happened in 1986 and the site still isn’t considered safe. Radiation decays over time, though, so this problem is more manageable than other items on this list. If the radioactive waste is contained for the right amount of time, then it can be more safely disposed of. Without proper containment, though, the radiation can lead to death and various cancers. There are also dangers to future generations as well because it has been documented that radiation can cause severe birth defects.

Congo, My Precious. The Curse of the coltan mines in Congo

52:01
Watch more https://rtd.rt.com/tags/illegal-mining/ The Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa is one of the world’s most resource-rich countries. A wide range of rare minerals can be found here in abundance, all commanding high prices in world commodity markets. Diamonds for jewellery, tantalum, tungsten and gold for electronics; uranium used in power generation and weaponry and many others. Congo has copious deposits of raw materials that are in high demand internationally but remains one of the poorest countries in the world. From colonisation, with the horrors of slavery and other atrocities, to a turbulent and equally brutal present in which militant groups control the mines, Congo’s richness in natural resources has brought nothing but misery. Referred to as “conflict minerals”, these riches leave only a trail of death, destruction and poverty. Under Belgian rule, Congolese labourers were often required to meet quotas when mining different minerals. Failure could mean punishment by having a hand cut off with a machete. The country gained independence in 1960, but that didn’t put a stop to slave and child labour or to crimes being committed to extract and exploit the minerals. Warring militant fractions from inside the country and beyond seized control of mines for their own benefit while terrorising local populations. For our translator, Bernard Kalume Buleri, his country’s history of turmoil is very personal; like most Congolese people, he and his family fell victim to the unending mineral based power struggle. Born in the year of his country’s independence, he has lived through war and seen his homeland torn apart by violent looting and greed. His story is a damning testament, illustrating how nature’s bounty, instead of being a blessing, becomes a deadly curse. Western Lithium (WLC.TO or WLCDF) Could Be Major U.S. Supplier of Lithium

09:35
http://goldstocktrades.com/blog The Kings Valley Asset is 100% owned by Western Lithium and the company is continuing to prove that it can be competitive with the current producers. This world class lithium asset is located in the mining friendly, supportive and stable jurisdiction of Nevada. It could be one of the major suppliers to battery factories such as the $5 billion plant Tesla is building. Recently, Western Lithium received a $1.5 million payment from its largest shareholder towards building a Lithium Demonstration Plant in Germany expected to be operational by the end of 2014. The company received a USA patent for its process which separates lithium and potassium from clays. Western Lithium has a prefeasibility study which forecasts lower costs against current and potential producers. Western Lithium recently announced that the BLM has approved the Final Environmental Assessment. This means Western Lithium can operate the Hectorite clay Mine. Western Lithium CEO Jay Chmelauskas stated in the recent PR that, "We are beginning clay mining operations in 2014 to support our strategy of initially selling Hectatone™ organoclay products in the near term to the growing oilfield industry...Ultimately, we plan to increase our activities at Kings Valley and extract lithium from our hectorite clay in the future, in order to become a strategic USA based lithium supplier for new battery manufacturing that is anticipated due to increased lithium demand expected from electrified vehicles and grid storage." With renewed interest in electric vehicles and lithium ion batteries, Western Lithium could continue its upward breakout on record volume. Look for a breakout into new highs for Western Lithium as renewed interest comes into this high growth sector. This year may be a major year with the Lithium demonstration plant operational by year end and the Organoclay Plant producing hectorite by the summer. Why could LITHIUM be a LOST CHANCE for BOLIVIA? - VisualPolitik EN

11:29
Lithium is the lightest metal on the periodic table. It’s value has been multiplied by 10 in the last two decades alone. And it’s demand doesn’t stop growing. Between 60 and 80% of the world’s known reserves are in an area called the LITHIUM TRIANGLE. This is an area that covers parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. In these countries, lithium is abundant and easy to extract. In other words, this part of the planet might soon become the new Saudi Arabia. Despite these reserves Bolivia is exporting less lithium than the other two countries. So what’s going on in Bolivia? Why is no one exploiting their lithium resources? And why is Chile following suit? Today, we are going to answer all of those questions. Why Isn't Congo as Rich as Saudi Arabia? Massive Tax Evasion

04:38
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is rich in natural resources, yet the average citizen lives on only 72 cents a day. The foreign mining companies are getting rich while the general population is living in poverty. Many Congolese citizens are diging through the dirt on their hands and knees in search their fair share of the countries natural minerals. While there are taxes on the mining companies who benefit from the countries resources it is proving difficult to actually collect the money that is owed. Vocativ spoke to one tax inspector who explained that tax evasion and government fraud is rampant throughout the mining industry. So it seems that until those benefiting from the countries natural wealth start paying their fare share, many average citizens will have to continue digging through the mud to get by. Most Amazing Open-pit Mines in The World (diamonds, gold, silver, copper...) [igeoNews]

03:44
Contribute to the Project: http://igeo.tv/contribuye-al-proyecto/ The Bingham Canyon Mine, also known as the Kennecott Copper Mine, is an open-pit mining operation extracting a large porphyry copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, in the Oquirrh Mountains. The mine is owned by Rio Tinto Group, an international mining and exploration company headquartered in the United Kingdom. The copper operations at Bingham Canyon Mine are managed through Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation which operates the mine, a concentrator plant, a smelter, and a refinery. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 0.6 miles (0.97 km) deep, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and covering 1,900 acres (770 ha). It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April of 2013 and a smaller slide in September of 2013. Udachnaya was discovered on June 15, 1955, just two days after the discovery of the diamond pipe Mir by Soviet geologist Vladimir Shchukin and his team. It is more than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep, making it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine and Chuquicamata). The nearby settlement of Udachny is named for the deposit. As of 2010, Udachnaya pipe is controlled by Russian diamond company Alrosa, which planned to halt open-pit mining in favor of underground mining in 2010. The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds and an annual production capacity of 10.4 million carats Chuquicamata, or "Chuqui" as it is more familiarly known, is by excavated volume the biggest open pit copper mine in the world, located in the north of Chile, just outside of Calama, 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago. The mine is owned and operated by Codelco, a Chilean state enterprise, since the Chilean nationalization of copper in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its depth of 850 metres (2,790 ft) makes it the second deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA). The Diavik Diamond Mine is a diamond mine in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, about 300 kilometres (190 mi) north of Yellowknife. It has become an important part of the regional economy, employing 700, grossing C$100 million in sales, and producing approximately 7.5 million carats (1,500 kg (3,300 lb)) of diamonds annually.[2] The area was surveyed in 1992 and construction began in 2001, with production commencing in January 2003. It is connected by an ice road and Diavik Airport with a 5,235 ft (1,596 m) gravel runway regularly accommodating Boeing 737 jet aircraft. The Grasberg Mine is the largest gold mine and the third largest copper mine in the world. It is located in the province of Papua in Indonesia near Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain in Papua, and it has 19,500 employees. It is majority owned through a subsidiary by Freeport-McMoRan, which owns 90.64% of PT Freeport Indonesia, the principal operating subsidiary in Indonesia, including 9.36% owned through its wholly owned subsidiary, PT Indocopper Investama. The Government of Indonesia owns the remaining 9.36% of PT Freeport Indonesia. FCX operates under an agreement with the Government of Indonesia, which allows Freeport to conduct exploration, mining and production activities in a 24,700-acre area (Block A). It also conducts exploration activities in an approximate 500,000-acre area (Block B). All of Freeport's proven and probable mineral reserves and current mining operations are located in Block A. The 2006 production was 610,800 tonnes of copper; 58,474,392 grams of gold; and 174,458,971 grams of silver. Western Uranium’s George Glasier on being a near term vanadium producer

03:05
March 29, 2018 – "We are ready to go into production obviously. The way I look at it, there is only four companies in the U.S. that can fill that first needs under that petition and we are one of them." states George Glasier, President, CEO and Director of Western Uranium Corporation (CSE: WUC | OTCQX: WSTRF), in an interview with InvestorIntel’s Jeff Wareham. Jeff Wareham: George when I was preparing for the interview one of the things I saw was that you had a pretty strong release recently on vanadium. How is vanadium going to impact Western Uranium?  George Glasier: That is a good question because vanadium is one our products in the mine, Sunday Mine Complex, six times the vanadium content as uranium so the recovery of the vanadium price basically is a real plus for our company. You can call it a vanadium mine with a secondary product of uranium with today’s prices. Now that could change. With uranium prices going up we could see the switch where vanadium is worth less than the uranium, but today the vanadium is certainly the driver. Jeff Wareham: But vanadium is a real catalyst for you. That is great. Now, politically is what is going on in the United States going to be important to Western Uranium?  George Glasier: Absolutely. A lot of people are not aware of this petition that was recently filed under the same process that the steel and the aluminum people have and just apparently were awarded some relief. The U.S. producers are asking for similar protection. Instead of having a tariff we are asking for 25% being sourced in the U.S. 75% could still be open for foreign producers. If that is awarded in any significant quantity you are going to see U.S. uranium worth a lot more than world uranium. Now that could take months to do. They have a certain time frame they have to do it in so that could impact the U.S. uranium market fairly drastically, fairly soon. Jeff Wareham: A lot of the companies we see on here are developing things, but you guys are a producer. George Glasier: We are ready to go into production obviously. The way I look at it there is only four companies in the U.S. that can fill that first needs under that petition and we are one of them. Jeff Wareham: Wow. That is fantastic. The opportunity looks great. In the current state of the market, what sort of a reason should investors be buying Western Uranium right now? George Glasier: You know, obviously if you are buying in the low part of the market, uranium prices have not gone up and so you are buying the right companies at the bottom or close to the bottom. As uranium prices go up, whether it is through this petition or whether it is through the natural supply demand balance, you are going to see all uranium companies benefit from that. That may take longer. If the petition is successful you are going to see U.S. uranium companies go up fairly quickly. Jeff Wareham: Are we going to see any further need for financing or should be just be hanging on and watching for news flow? George Glasier: No, obviously, you know, you raise money from time to time definitely. The International Lithium “battery grade” and global material producer Ganfeng advantage

07:19
November 29, 2016 -- Kirill Klip, President of International Lithium Corp. (TSXV: ILC), in an interview with InvestorIntel Corp. CEO Tracy Weslosky discuss the competitive advantage innate in having one of the world’s leading lithium material producers, Ganfeng as a global exploration partner. Recently announcing the drilling results from the Avalonia project in Ireland, Kirill explains why InvestorIntel European Editor Christopher Ecclestone describes International Lithium as having “battery grade” lithium. Tracy Weslosky: For all of, for our InvestorIntel audience out there I’ve been actually chasing Kirill down for about 3 years now. Has it been 3 years Kirill? Kirill Klip: Yeah, that’s true. Tracy Weslosky: So we’re delighted to have you as an InvestorIntel member and I would love it if you would start by explaining why we were chasing you down and give the InvestorIntel audience a better overview and introduction to who International Lithium Corp. (TSXV: ILC) is please. Kirill Klip: Thank you Tracy. You are very kind to us. International Lithium is a lithium exploration and development company. What really makes us standalone from the crowd is our vertically integrated business model with Ganfeng Lithium. Ganfeng Lithium is one of the major lithium material producers from China and now with them we are exploring on three continents, if you could believe it, in South America, in Ireland and in Canada. Tracy Weslosky: Well as you know --- we agree with you, your deal with Ganfeng Lithium is substantial. I’m going to have you back up and reintroduce our audience to the actual deal that you have because I think it’s really going to affect your market valuation Kirill when our audience understands what this deal is. Kirill Klip: Yes, thank you; very, very interesting and important question. Ganfeng Lithium grown up from $3 million in sales in the year 2000 to more than $200 million in sales last year. Now we have basically lithium top 5 in the world with Albemarle number one, with SQM number two and now Ganfeng and another Chinese company, Tianqui push former three in the world, FMC, into the fifth place. Basically we are making business with $4.5 billion dollar market cap company from China, Ganfeng Lithium, which is now on field with four plays dependent on their searches. We were fortunate we started our business 7 years ago and this year actually we celebrated our fifth anniversary of our IPO with Ganfeng Lithium. Like you mentioned, we can call it the major deal in the whole lithium sector because we are the only one basically an exploration arm of a major lithium producing company. They spent two years studying all our projects, making all due diligences on our properties. In the end they have chosen two major projects, which are now developing with them joint ventures, one of them is in Ireland and another one in Argentina. The Argentina one is called Mariana and in Ireland we have Avalonia project with Ganfeng. Tracy Weslosky: Okay. Speaking of Avalonia project, you just did the mobilization of your drills with Ganfeng. Is that not correct? You just announced this, what, 2 months ago. Kirill Klip: Yes, exactly. Two months ago we mobilized 2 drills following our very impressive results. Now we have up to 9 known pegmatites over there, some of them as large as 500 meters. We have very, very interesting intersections. Lithium and Graphite is the Gasoline For the 21st Century 6-20-16

11:46
http://goldstocktrades.com/blog For years we highlighted lithium as the new gasoline. I highlighted in this article entitled “Lithium-Ion Batteries becoming the fuel of the future” written over two years ago that demand could soar for electric vehicles. See the article on Seeking Alpha from more than two years ago. http://seekingalpha.com/article/2206003-are-lithium-ion-batteries-becoming-the-fuel-of-the-future Now two years later even the big player investment banks like Goldman Sachs are finally entering the sector. Listen to Bob Koort, head of Industrials and Materials research for Goldman Sachs Research, explains how lithium could unlock the mass market potential of electric vehicles. See the video by clicking on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkMN8CN9OBY I recently sent out a video update highlighting Lithium Americas (LAC.TO or LACDF) and showing the bullish potential the chart was forming pulling back to the 50 Day Moving Average. The stock bounced off on great volume showing excellent support. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4Sx2YtzRes It would not be a surprise to our readers if institutions are looking to add Lithium Americas as it is the most advanced lithium junior with the highest quality asset. They are partnered with the lowest cost producer SQM in Argentina and trading on the North American exchanges. This could become an institutional favorite. Attention should be paid to a news item which may be finally gaining notice. Lithium Americas (LAC.TO or LACDF) appointed former Tesla Senior Engineer Dr. David Deak as Chief Technical Officer. According to his Linkedin profile Dr. Deak managed significant projects at Tesla including processing raw materials from Mine to Gigafactory. Dr. Deak commented, "I am thrilled to join the executive team at LAC. The Company is on an important mission, and is well positioned to play a critical role in enabling sustainable transportation. The Company's commitment to advancing its lithium projects comes at a time when the market requires additional sources of lower cost lithium supply. I have known the principals at LAC for several years, and they have consistently demonstrated a creative approach to solutions in both processing technologies and collaborative business structures.” This appointment is a huge boost of confidence for Lithium Americas and may start getting attention from the Battery Investment Community. http://lithiumamericas.com/LAC_NR_May_2_2016.pdf Big news was released today by Graphite One (GPH.V or GPHOF) of performance tests on coin cells manufactured from the spheroidal graphite that shows high performance and stability. Graphite One is developing the Graphite Creek Project in Alaska which is the largest known large flake graphite deposit in the USA. The Company’s PEA is expected to be completed in Q3 2016. Today’s news may draw attention from the battery manufacturers who are looking to improve power output and efficiency. “Up to this point, EV battery end-users have had to make a choice between systems that deliver high-power (near 100 kW) and high-energy (tens of kW hours between each charge).  Based on these new results and observations made when processing STAX graphite, we will focus our development work on determining whether our STAX-derived SPG can deliver both high-energy and high-power performance,” said Graphite One CEO Anthony Huston. “We continue to be encouraged by the naturally occurring properties being revealed in our Graphite Creek graphite.” Huston continued, “It is important to note that the economics of our project will not be known at any level of confidence before the completion of a preliminary economic assessment (“PEA”), preliminary feasibility study or feasibility study.”  See the full news release by clicking here... http://www.graphiteoneresources.com/news/index.php?&content_id=249 Finally I would like to revisit Nano One Materials (NNO.V) which may also be bouncing off the 50 day moving average as the investment community begins to see the unique qualities of this company. Earlier this month they reported that the design phase of the lithium battery material pilot plant has been completed. The pilot plant should be completed in early 2017 which could simulate full scale production of cathode materials for the lithium ion battery which are lower cost, cobalt free and better performing. See the full news release by clicking here... http://nanoone.ca/nr_jun7_2016/ Disclosure: I own Lithium Americas, Graphite One and Nano One Materials. They are all website sponsors which means I received compensation for advertising. Please do your own due diligence.

Afghanistan's Secret Billion Dollar Emerald Mines

He's a Frenchman who first came to Afghanistan to train Afghan security services before venturing into the emerald trade. He sees a huge chance here to exploit a market that could easily increase in value twenty or thirty-fold, but the obstacles are not inconsiderable. Just to get to the mines Raphael has to travel the 150 Kilometres from Kabul to Panjshir, right through Taliban kidnap country. When he gets there he finds an industry in the dark ages, where homemade pyrotechnics are exploded in poorly dug mineshafts, killing many miners and ruining the quality of up to 75% of the stones they dig. "If you see the damage being done to these stones... so much is lost", Yama Torabi from Integrity Watch Afghanistan tells us. The government here remains hopelessly out of touch with the industry that "still (uses) a mining law adopted 100 years ago". But as the country prepares for elections and Europeans like Raphael open up the gem trade here, could this be a beacon of hope for the future? Pure Energy CEO Provides an Update on the Clayton Valley Lithium Brine Project

03:08
Pure Energy Minerals (TSXV:PE) CEO Robert Mintak spoke about the Clayton Valley Lithium Brine Project, located in Esmeralda County, Nevada - halfway between Las Vegas and Reno. According to Mr. Mintak, "In 2014, Pure Energy was able to successfully raise close to $4 million, which allowed us to begin exploration work on the project. Early drill results have shown promising lithium concentrations ranging from 230 to 400 parts per million. Additionally in 2014, Pure Energy was able to add additional management roles to the company including a new COO, Dr. Andy Robinson, PhD, Geoscientist with a history in water project development; and Alexi Zawadzki as VP of Business Development. Additionally, we added Prof. LeeAnn Munk, a world-ranking geoscientist on lithium brine resources." In 2015, Mr. Mintak says, "Following up to our successful 2014 exploration drill program, the company has recently announced the commencement of our 2015 exploration program which will include additional drilling and geophysics toward a 43-101 inferred report. Additionally, the company is working with one of its strategic partners, Tenova Bateman, on lithium brine processing at a pilot plant in Israel." Mr. Mintak believes that what sets Pure Energy apart from other junior resource companies is that "we're well-financed" with a project located in a mining-friendly jurisdiction, Nevada.

Sorry for the wait on this one. This song let me just say means a lot to me and the lyrics are very powerful. I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG, THE LYRICS TO THIS SONG, OR ANY PART OF THE BAND WHAT SO EVER. Shinedown keep writing kick ass songs and keep rocking your great! Lyrics: Wrap me in a bolt of lightning Send me on my way still smiling Maybe that's the way I should go, Straight into the mouth of the unknown I left the spare key on the table Never really thought I'd be able to say I merely visit on the weekends I lost my whole life and a dear friend I've said it so many times I would change my ways No, nevermind God knows I've tried [Chorus] Call me a sinner, call me a saint Tell me it's over I'll still love you the same Call me your favorite, call me the worst Tell me it's over I don't want you to hurt It's all that I can say. So, I'll be on my way I finally put it all together, But nothing really lasts forever I had to make a choice that was not mine, I had to say goodbye for the last time I kept my whole life in suitcase, Never really stayed in one place Maybe that's the way it should be, You know I live my life like a gypsy I've said it so many times I would change my ways No, nevermind God knows I've tried [Chorus] Call me a sinner, call me a saint Tell me it's over I'll still love you the same Call me your favorite, call me the worst Tell me it's over I don't want you to hurt It's all that I can say. So, I'll be on my way I'll always keep you inside, you healed my Heart and my life... And you know I try. [Chorus] Call me a sinner, call me a saint Tell me it's over I'll still love you the same Call me your favorite, call me the worst Tell me it's over I don't want you to hurt It's all that I can say. So, I'll be on my way So, I'll be on my way So, I'll be on my way Hope you all enjoy!

Understanding how Lithium-ion batteries fail

02:32
What happens when lithium-ion batteries overheat and explode has been imaged inside and out for the first time by a team led by UCL PhD student Donal Finegan (UCL Chemical Engineering) and Dr Paul Shearing (UCL Chemical Engineering). Understanding how Li-ion batteries fail and potentially cause a dangerous chain reaction of events is important for improving their design to make them safer to use and transport. Hundreds of millions of these rechargeable batteries are manufactured and transported each year as they are integral to modern living, powering mobile phones, laptops, cars and planes.
