Rheumatoid arthritis and your teeth... what's the connection?

01:43
http://www.arthritistreatmentcenter.com Rheumatoid arthritis patients often have problems with periodontal disease. Ironically,. gum infection bacteria, Porphyrymonas gingivalis has been postulated as being a cause of RA. RA patients also often have Sjogren's disease which sets them up for dental caries, thrush, and other infections. Patients with RA may have difficulty with oral hygiene because of difficulty with brushing and flossing as well. http://youtu.be/Z40QGFV4n_M

What do your teeth have to do with arthritis?

http://www.arthritistreatmentcenter.com What do your teeth have to do with arthritis... next Gum disease bacteria linked to rheumatoid arthritis In an article published in PLOS Pathogens, University of Louisville School of Dentistry Oral Health and Systemic Diseases group researcher Jan Potempa, and an international team of scientists from the European Union's Gums and Joints project have uncovered how the bacterium responsible for periodontal disease, Porphyromonas gingivalis worsens RA by leading to earlier onset, faster progression and greater severity of the disease, including increased bone and cartilage destruction. The scientists found that P. gingivalis produces a unique enzyme PAD. PAD changes residues of certain proteins leading to an immune attack. In RA patients, the subsequent result is chronic inflammation responsible for bone and cartilage destruction within the joints. Got Arthritis? Take Care of Your Teeth

00:50
http://www.dailyrx.com/periodontal-disease-and-rheumatoid-arthritis-may-be-linked If those aching joints are a result of rheumatoid arthritis, it may be a signal to take extra care of your teeth. That’s the recommendation from a new study, led by Elliot D. Rosenstein, MD, director of the Institute for Rheumatic and Autoimmune Diseases at Overlook Medical Center in New Jersey. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and periodontal disease may be connected, this study found. Patients with one condition often have the other as well. Treating periodontal disease may improve patients’ response to treatment for RA, Dr. Rosenstein and colleagues said.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness

03:43
Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints and causes inflammation and pain around them. It is also known to attack healthy internal organs including the heart and lungs. Also causes issues with the eyes, skin, and teeth. It shortens life span and if not treated correctly will cause severe joint deformity and can even cause death. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis affects children 18 and younger. Please join me and millions of others who are affected with this disease in a fight for a cure!! Help me spread awareness about this terrible disease! You can donate as little as $1 to the Arthritis Foundation or Arthritis National Research Foundation, anything will help. Share this video, it will help. THANK YOU! #rheum http://www.facebook.com/advocatewurmie follow me on twitter if you would like @Joanne_Wurm i realize my writing looks silly. i tried my hardest doing it backwards and all, but i think it gets the point across!! 11 Effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis on the Body

10:27
11 Effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis on the Body Overview Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is more than just joint pain. This chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease causes your body to mistakenly attack healthy joints and leads to widespread inflammation. While RA is notorious for causing joint pain and inflammation, it can also cause other symptoms throughout the body. Read on to learn more about the possible symptoms of RA and its overall effects on the body. The effects of rheumatoid arthritis on the body RA is a progressive autoimmune disease that mainly affects your joints. According to Arthritis Foundation, about 1.5 million U.S. people live with RA. Anyone can get RA, but it generally begins between the ages of 30 and 60. It also tends to affect women nearly three times more than men. The exact cause of RA is unknown, but genetics, infections, or hormonal changes may play a role. Disease-modifying medications can help slow the progression of RA. Other medications, combined with lifestyle changes, can help manage the effects and in turn improve your overall quality of life. Skeletal system One of the first signs of RA is inflammation of the smaller joints in the hands and feet. Most of the time, symptoms affect both sides of the body at once. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, tenderness, and stiffness, which is more pronounced in the morning. Morning RA pain can last for 30 minutes or longer. RA can also cause tingling or burning sensations in the joints. Symptoms can come and go in “flares” followed by a period of remission, but the initial stages can last at least six weeks. Symptoms of RA can occur in any of the body’s joints, including your: fingers wrists shoulders elbows hips knees ankles toes RA can also result in: bunions claw toes hammer toes As the disease progresses, cartilage and bone are damaged and destroyed. Eventually, supporting tendons, ligaments, and muscles weaken. This can lead to a limited range of motion or difficulty moving the joints properly. In the long term, joints can become deformed. Having RA also puts you at greater risk of developing osteoporosis, a weakening of the bones. This in turn can increase your risk of bone fractures and breaks. Chronic inflammation of the wrists can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, making it difficult to use your wrists and hands. Weakened or damaged bones in the neck or cervical spine can cause chronic pain. Your doctor may order X-rays to investigate the extent of joint and bone damage from RA. Circulatory system RA can affect the system responsible for making and transporting blood throughout your body, too. A simple blood test can reveal the presence of an antibody called the rheumatoid factor. Not all people with the antibody develop RA, but it’s one of many clues doctors use to diagnose this condition. RA increases your risk for anemia. This is due to a decreased production of red blood cells. You may also have a higher risk of blocked or hardened arteries. In rare cases, RA can lead to inflammation of the sac around the heart (pericarditis), the heart muscle (myocarditis), or even congestive heart failure. A rare but serious complication of RA is inflammation of the blood vessels (rheumatoid vasculitis, or RA rash). Inflamed blood vessels weaken and expand or narrow, interfering with blood flow. This can lead to problems with the nerves, skin, heart, and brain. Skin, eyes, and mouth Rheumatoid nodules are hard lumps caused by inflammation that appear under the skin, usually near joints. They can be bothersome, but usually aren’t painful. As many as 4 million U.S. people have an inflammatory disease called Sjogren’s syndrome, according to the Sjogren’s Syndrome Foundation. About half of these individuals also have RA or a similar autoimmune disease. When the two diseases are present, it’s called secondary Sjogren’s syndrome. Sjogren’s causes severe dryness — especially of the eyes. You may notice a burning or gritty feeling. Prolonged dry eyes increases the risk of eye infection or corneal damage. Though it’s rare, RA can also cause inflammation of the eye. Sjogren’s can also cause a dry mouth and throat, making it difficult to eat or swallow, especially dry foods. Chronic dry mouth can lead to: tooth decay gingivitis oral infections You may also experience swollen glands in the face and neck, dry nasal passages, and dry skin. Women may also feel vaginal dryness. Respiratory system RA increases the risk of inflammation or scarring of the linings of the lungs (pleurisy) and damage to lung tissue (rheumatoid lung). Other problems include: blocked airways (bronchiolitis obliterans) fluid in the chest (pleural effusion) high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension) scarring of the lungs (pulmonary fibrosis) rheumatoid nodules on the lungs

Rheumatoid Arthritis Triggered by Poor Oral Hygiene

02:52
The John Hopkins University School of Medicine, one of the nation's most respected institutions when it comes to medical breakthroughs has announced their discovery that the bacteria responsible for inflammatory gum infections also causes the inflammatory response found in rheumatoid arthritis. This breakthrough could bring about new treatments and the possible prevention of the disease. Rheumatoid arthritis, also known as RA, is the second most common form of arthritis. It is a debilitating condition in which joints become inflamed, leading to pain, stiffness, swelling and lethargy. Having long believed that gum disease played a part in many internal inflammatory conditions, Felipe Andrade, associate professor of medicine at the John Hopkins Bayview Medical center said, “This is like putting the last few pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that I’ve been working on for many years. Dr. Maximillion Konig added, “This research may be the closest we’ve come to discovering the root cause of RA.” Although the link between gum disease and Rheumatoid arthritis has been suspected for many years, some say as far back as the early 1900s, it wasn’t until scientists discovered that the process called hypercitrullination was occurring in the joints of those suffering from RA, was also occurring in the mouths of those patients with gum disease. Citrullination is a natural function in our bodies that regulate how proteins work. This process, however, becomes overactive in people with RA, causing an abnormal accumulation of proteins. Andrade said, “This condition cause the creation of antibodies to offset this condition. Unfortunately, it also causes inflammation and the breakdown of tissue which is the hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis.” He went on to say that, “Other bacteria in the stomach, lung or other organs may be using similar mechanisms to bring about hypercitrullation. If we can get to the root cause regarding the evolution of both combined, perhaps we could prevent rather than intervene. If you are presently suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, a trip to the dentist may well be worth tour while. If you want to prevent rheumatoid arthritis, and many of the other internal ailments associated with poor oral hygiene then the best way is to do what you dentist says, Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss or use an oral irrigator and rinse with a fluoride mouthwash. For extra protection, it is recommended that you use an oral irrigator like the Oral Breeze. This inexpensive and easy to use device uses a powerful stream of water to blast trapped food particles from your mouth to eliminate bacterial breeding ground and stop gum disease before it can start.

My Real Life ~ the 13 Minute Tooth Torture Episode ~

13:37
This is a 13 minute video of this incredible horrible agonizing tooth pain that started in my right lower jaw and moved to my upper jaw, my right sinus (why I kept blowing my right nostril as it was the only momentary relief I could feel) and during the distress I did a series of Energetic Medicine techniques that I will explain in another video...at this point I was just desperately doing them as fast as I could and the handmovements are hard to follow. But the series helped me release enough pain to get though my 45 minute dance lesson pain free. I then saw a dentist who took an X-ray and found no infection or obvious problem. The things I'm saying outloud are my questions to my body using Kinesiology to answer the questions. Kinesiology is a muscle testing technique I learned from Dr Kam Yuen and it changed my life and gave me the power to conquer many difficult physical challenges I've had in my life, including Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia.

fewer teeth increase risk of ra

02:12
Fewer Teeth Increase Risk of RA Bruce Jancin writing in Rheumatology News reported on a study presented at the European Congress of Rheumatology. First-degree relatives of patients with RA were 8.1 times more likely to have at least one swollen joint on physical examination if they had 20 or fewer teeth than if they possessed the full 32. The study is ongoing and focuses on 366 healthy people at increased risk for RA because they are first degree relatives of affected patients. Tooth loss is intimately associated with periodontitis, an inflammatory condition involving the gums. Investigators have long felt there is an association between chronic gum inflammation and the development of autoimmune diseases such as RA.

New research suggests that tooth loss – a marker for periodontal (gum) disease – may predict rheumatoid arthritis and its severity. Rheumatoid arthritis | high intensity exercise rheumatoid arthritis

02:51
https://www.arthritistreatmentcenter.com Does intense exercise help or hurt rheumatoid arthritis? The answer next… Rigorous Exercise Could Aid Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Rachel Lutz writing in MD reported arthritis pain severity can be reduced with high-intensity training, such as cycling, according to a study published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology. Researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology studied seven women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) aged between 20 and 50 years in order to examine the effects of high-intensity training on their arthritis pain, and to determine if these patients would tolerate exercise intensities above today’s general recommendations. The patients performed high-intensity interval training twice per week for 10 weeks on spinning bikes, consisting of four sessions of four minute intervals at about 85-95 percent of the maximum heart rate. The researchers found that the high-intensity interval training produced a 12.2 percent increase in the patients’ maximum oxygen uptake and a 2.9 percent improvement in heart recovery rate. Additionally, body mass index, body fat, and waist circumference in patients decreased by rates of 1.2, 1.0, and 1.6 percent, respectively. Muscle mass increased by 0.6 percent in the patients. Comment: It’s interesting that all the patients elected to continue the exercise program. This is consistent with what I’ve observed with my patients. You’ve got to make regular exercise as much of a habit as brushing your teeth. https://youtu.be/Gnl5JEAzSsY

5 Herbs for Arthritis and Joint Pain

5 Herbs for Arthritis & Joint Pain Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by an overactive immune system. It can be very scary, since the medical protocol can be quite intense (such as chemotherapy and other therapies which suppress the immune system). We don’t suggest any immune-enhancing herbs, but instead recommend herbs that treat inflammation, (the true root cause of all disease, in my humble opinion) as well as herbs which cleanse the blood and strengthen the body in general. Reversing Arthritis With Dr. Morse | Fruits, Berries, And Melons

06:02
Regardless if you're dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, or any fancy name used to describe what the medical community refers to as an autoimmune disease...You need to understand the remedy is the same. If you're wondering how to cure arthritis you've already lost in a sense. Arthritis, along with any kind of inflammatory joint disease is created by acidosis in the body. We can reverse an acid condition by changing the chemistry we consume. This means eating an alkaline diet. I spent many nights wondering when the medical community was going to come out with a cure for the variety of autoimmune conditions I was dealing with, but the truth is all the prescription medication we are offered from the rheumatologist are treatment based. I have experienced this first hand. After trying naproxen, prednisone, and finally being prescribed methotrexate, I searched for an alternative. I tried having surgery for arthritis, and this didn't get rid of the pain either. It was around this time I found Dr Morse and learned about the great lymphatic system. Getting on Dr. Morse's herbs and following a fruit diet is the only way I have been able to reverse arthritis naturally. I am sharing this truth in hopes others that are not interested in immune system suppressing drugs will use this as their remedy. ↠ My Website ↞ https://rawbwild.com/ ↠ Subscribe To Rawb Wild's Channel↞ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_fI9Wafkssw5jMkugOh6tg?sub_confirmation=1 ↠ Support Rob ↞ https://www.patreon.com/rawbwild ↠ Social Media ↞ 📸 INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/rawbwild/ 💙 MY FACEBOOK PAGE: https://www.facebook.com/RAWBWILD/ 👻 ADD ME ON SNAPCHAT: RAWBWILD 🐦 FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER: https://twitter.com/rawbwild ↠ Shop ↞ ☼ APPAREL: https://rawbwild.com/collections/apparel-collection ☼ RAW SNACKS: https://rawbwild.com/pages/superfoods-snacks ☼ KITCHENWARE: https://rawbwild.com/pages/kitchenware ☼ BODY CARE: https://rawbwild.com/pages/body-care ☼ FAVORITE BOOKS: https://rawbwild.com/pages/favorite-books ↠ Education ↞ 📖 EATING RAW: https://rawbwild.com/pages/eating-a-raw-food-diet 📖 PROTEIN: https://rawbwild.com/pages/the-protein-scam 📖 EAT IN SEASON: https://rawbwild.com/pages/seasonal-fruit-guide 📖 DISCLOSURE: https://rawbwild.com/pages/diclosure ☆ IF YOU MADE IT TO THE BOTTOM COMMENT "I AM POWERFUL" ☆

How to Reduce Jaw Pain Treating Jaw Pain Caused By TMJ Arthritis

04:39
How to Reduce Jaw Pain Treating Jaw Pain Caused By TMJ Arthritis Step 1 Understand what causes TMJ problems. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems may be caused by traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis.Osteoarthritis is most common in adults over 50 years of age. All forms of TMJ arthritis cause stiffness, pain, grating, swelling, and limited range of motion. Step 2 Diagnose TMJ arthritis. Before you treat for TMJ arthritis, it's important to have confirmation that the problem is, in fact, arthritis. In most cases, an X-ray or cat scan can confirm TMJ arthritis based on the observed flattening and lipping of the condyle, the rounded prominence at the end of a bone. The exception to this is traumatic arthritis, which does not typically show up on an X-ray unless a pooling of fluids or a hemorrhage causes a widening of the joint, which would then be visible in an X-ray. The diagnosis of headache, such as cluster headache, migraine, temporal arteritis, and stroke, must be ruled out before a TMJ diagnosis, especially if you are having headache symptoms. Step 3 Treat traumatic TMJ arthritis. Though arthritis cannot be cured, there are a number of treatments that can be administered to reduce jaw pain associated with arthritis. Many doctors recommend non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to treat the symptoms of traumatic TMJ arthritis. Try sticking to a soft food diet to avoid unnecessary jaw movement. Use a warm compress. Apply the compress for 20 minutes, then remove the compress and exercising the jaw by moving it open and shut, then side to side. Try repeating this treatment three to five times daily, as needed. Try wearing a bite guard. This may give some patients relief from pain or discomfort. Step 4 Treat osteoarthritic TMJ pain. Though this type of arthritis can be painful, especially if the jaws have begun to move closer together, there are steps that can be taken to manage the pain and treat the symptoms. Wear a mouth guard or bite plate. These can be worn during the day or overnight to help reduce pain and grating in patients with osteoarthritic TMJ pain. Try applying a warm compress for 20 minutes, then exercising the jaw. Move the jaw open and closed, then move the lower jaw from side to side. Stick to soft foods. Avoid anything hard or crunchy. Try an over-the-counter pain reliever, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, to reduce pain and inflammation during particularly painful periods. Step 5 Treat rheumatoid arthritis TMJ pain. The treatment for rheumatoid TMJ pain is similar to rheumatoid pain in other joints. Typical treatments may include: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs Jaw exercises to maintain range of motion when pain is at a minimum A cold compress may be applied to reduce pain and inflammation. Apply the cold compress to the affected side of the jaw for 20 minutes on, followed by 20 minutes off. In severe cases, some doctors may recommend surgery to prevent rheumatoid arthritis from limiting jaw function.Surgery is usually considered a last option when all other alternatives have been exhausted, due to the risk of complications associated with surgery. Step 6 Use medication for all forms of TMJ arthritis. Pain relievers may be used to reduce pain and inflammation in all forms of TMJ arthritis. Consult with your doctor on a medication plan that works best for your symptoms. Pain relievers, both over-the-counter and prescription-strength, can help manage the pain associated with TMJ arthritis. Muscle relaxants may be prescribed by your doctor for short periods of time (a few days to several weeks in length) to help manage pain and make movement easier. Sedatives may be recommended by your doctor to help you sleep at night, if TMJ pain is keeping you awake. Your doctor may recommend supervised cortisone injections to treat pain and inflammation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on: Twitter https://twitter.com/joneleaverhowto Google+ https://plus.google.com/u/0/104910713098550407918 Tumblr https://joneleaverhowto.tumblr.com/ pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/joneleaverhowto/ website https://joneleaverhowto.blogspot.com/ channel https://www.youtube.com/joneleaver_howto also visit https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwMQrfy2_3pXIUH83QtqgBw ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for watching If you like this video then must give it a like And do not forget to subscribe our channel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credit goes to wikihow

http://tmj-pain-relief.good-info.co Tmj Joint, Tmj Treatment, Tmj Physical Therapy, Teeth Grinding Mouth Guard, Grinding Teeth, What is TMJ? The temporomandibular joint is the hinge joint of the jaw that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the temporal bone of the skull. This joint is an articular disc composed of fibrocartilagenous tissue. It comprises, all in all, of six parts: mandibular condyles, articular surface of the temporal bone, capsule, articular disc, ligaments and lateral pterygoid. The TM Joint facilitates movement of the jaws, thereby allowing essential functions like talking, eating and swallowing. Needless to say, the slightest afflictions caused to this joint, disrupt a great deal of its basic functions. The most common affliction that occurs is the TMJ Disorder. So, what is TMJ Disorder? The TMJ Disorder is a term used to describe an acute inflammation of the TM Joint. It is categorized in three ways: 1.By myofascial pain: The fascia is the tissue that connects the different parts of your body. Fascia around the muscles is called myofascial. Thus, any injury to the myofascial, will automatically adversely affect the muscles. The most common TMJ disorder is associated with myofascial pain in the jaw muscles and neck. 2.By internal injury: Any dislocation, injury, or indeed, any derangement in the joint results in TMJ disorder. 3.By degenerative joint disease: Problems like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis of the jaw are underlying causes of TMJ disorder. It can't be stated for certain what exactly causes TMJ disorder, although there are some standard contributing factors. These can be classified into dental issues (such as ill fitting dentures, tooth removal, missing teeth etc), injury or trauma (on or around the jaw), bad habits (like bruxism or wrong sleeping postures), social situations that cause stress and emotional upheavals (such as depression, anger or fear). There are a number of signs that you can recognise as underlying symptoms of TMJ disorder. The most likely symptom is otalgia, more commonly known as earache. Since the TMJ is so close to the ear, if there's a disorder in the TMJ, there are bound to be repercussions in the ear. The other fairly common symptom is toothache. Although toothaches are caused due to a number of reasons, a TMJ disorder may bring about toothaches, tooth mobility or even tooth loss. Usually, if the above listed signs are accompanied by headaches, they could be signalling a chronic TMJ disorder. A number of remedies are available for those suffering from TMJ disorder. In the initial stages of the condition, treatments like heat and ice therapy, or jaw resting techniques are used. Pain medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen are also prescribed. Corrective dental surgeries are used if the condition worsens. Sometimes a splint or bite plate may be required to be introduced. Non invasive and natural cures are also available. These may include stress reduction therapies, soft food diets and face and neck exercises. For conditions like TMJ disorder, it is always advisable to take a multi dimensional approach. A holistic treatment strengthens your body from within. Therefore, it is much more affective to combine alternative and conventional treatments for long lasting relief. Thus, working on stress reduction methods, along with following a soft food diet and a face and neck exercise routine can go a long way in not only healing the TMJ disorder but also in preventing it from happening again. This article is based on the book, "TMJ No More" by Sandra Carter. Sandra is an author, researcher, nutritionist and health consultant who dedicated her life to creating the ultimate TMJ disorders solution guaranteed to permanently reverse the root cause of TMJ and dramatically improve the overall quality of your life, without the use prescription medication and without any surgical procedures. Excellence in Dentistry: When is a Symptom a Dental Emergency

01:03
A common question is "When is a symptom a dental emergency?" The most common symptoms are pain or swelling in your mouth, and should never be ignored. There can be major and even life threatening complications from an untreated dental infection. The most common dental emergency is an abscessed tooth. This may begin with a throbbing pain in the tooth and may be intense. Most people describe being able to feel their pulse in the tooth. The tooth may be sensitive to hot and cold as well as to biting pressure. Left untreated the area around this tooth may begin to swell. Any drainage from this area may leave a bad taste in your mouth. Often the tooth pain from an abscessed tooth will wake you up at night or prevent you from falling to sleep. The risk of not treating the tooth at this stage can lead to a high fever and chills. This is a sign that the infection may have spread beyond this area. Swelling can also continue to the point where it may be difficult to breathe or swallow. These are life threatening complications and can lead to permanent injury or death. Even when the problem is not as severe, infected teeth and bleeding gums pump huge amounts of bacteria into the blood during eating and swallowing. This is one of the main causes for heart disease and diabetes. People that have diabetes and gum disease have greatly increased death rates due to cardiovascular disease and kidney failure. Chronic tooth infections can also aggravate Rheumatoid Arthritis, and resolving this problem could possibly decrease symptoms of this disease. The most serious and life threatening dental problem encountered today is oral cancer. This usually manifests as a sore or swelling in the mouth or jaw which does not disappear within a week or two. The cancer when not detected in the early stages can be very harmful. Oral cancer may spread all over the face and neck causing disfigurement and life threatening problems. Anyone can be at risk for these cancers, but if patients smoke and consume large amounts of alcohol, they are in a much higher category of risk. Even young people can be at risk for these cancers, with increased smoking and smokeless tobacco use being on the rise in this group. For any dental problem, prevention is the best form of cure. Early diagnosis and treatment of dental problems can help prevent complications that are life threatening, and increase individual health.

Dental Dangers: Cavitations

07:31
Biological dentist P. Vernon Erwin, DDS, talks about the hidden danger of jawbone cavitations - holes in the jawbone that are potent sources of endotoxins and that typically result from extraction sites that have not been cleaned out properly. How are they detected? How do they affect your health? How are they treated? Specific health conditions linked to cavitations include chronic pain, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, neurological problems and kidney problems. Biological dentistry is a specialty that looks at the teeth in relation to the whole body and the links between dental and systemic health. For this reason, it's also sometimes called "holistic," "integrative" or "whole body" dentistry. Scientific research has shown dental and oral problems linked to a wide variety of conditions, including diabetes, endocarditis, stroke, cancer, chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, chronic fatigue (CFS), multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) and autoimmune disorders such as MS, ALS and lupus. What causes muscle spasm near TMJ? - Dr. Arundati Krishnaraj

02:31
The TMJ is a very complex joint. It is called as the temporomandibular joint, which is connected the lower jaw joint, this is also called as the jaw joint, which helps in movement and chewing of the lower jaw. It helps in the chewing of food. There are lot of causes which causes any spasms or pains around the temporomandibular joint. These causes are numerous and there are wide variety of reasons why the muscle spasms occur. One maybe due to the local conditions, which may be the actual condition inside your mouth where there is malocclusion or malaligned teeth when the teeth are not in the proper position. This transmits the stresses onto the joints and causes pain around the joints. Other cause may be stress, stress related to your job, stress related to other family matters may cause some parafunctional habits such as grinding if the teeth or clenching of the teeth which may cause excessive forces on the joint and cause some muscle spasms. Some systemic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis may affect your jaw joint too and may affect the spams in and around the joints. Usually the symptoms associated with jaw joint are confused with ear pain and often misdiagnosed as an ear problem, but usually it is observed as difficulty whether it is in opening the mouth. Maybe pain around the ears that is radiating to your ear and the neck and there is soreness of the muscles you may also experience extreme head pain, dizziness, nausea. So consult your dentist to know to diagnose if you have such symptoms.

TMJ Exercises & Stretches to Relieve Jaw Pain - Ask Doctor Jo

TMJ Exercises & Stretches to Relieve Jaw Pain: http://www.AskDoctorJo.com Doctor Jo shows you some simple stretches to help relieve TMJ and jaw pain. For more physical therapy videos or to Ask Doctor Jo a question, visit http://www.AskDoctorJo.com Doctor Jo on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AskDoctorJo Doctor Jo on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AskDoctorJo More Details About This Video: The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) can cause severe jaw pain. The jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw are often involved. Clicking, popping, pain, and deviations in the movements of the joint are common symptoms. Stretching the TMJ and strengthening the muscles around the joint are just as important as any other part of your body. First, take your palm and slowly push on one side of your jaw. The pressure is on your chin. Push back with your jaw, but make sure your teeth are aligned. Start off gently, and if there is no pain, push a little harder. Do both sides; this will increase the strength and control of the joint. Next, push down on your bottom teeth with your fingers, and push up with your jaw. Try to keep your jaw in one place, and don't bite down. Finally, hold your mouth slightly open and aligned. Then, with your palm, push your chin straight in towards you. You should feel a stretch on your TMJ. Hold these for about 5 seconds each, and build your time up to 30 seconds, doing 3-5 each.
