In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. How Does The Sun Affect Your Skin? Benefits & Harmful Effects of Sunlight Exposure Animation Video

Sun’s effect on skin: The skin uses sunlight to help manufacture vitamin D, which is important for normal bone formation. But sometimes its ultraviolet light can be very detrimental. Within the skin's epidermal (outer) layer are cells that contain the pigment melanin. Melanin protects skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which can burn the skin, and over time, could reduce its elasticity and cause a person to age prematurely. Suntanning occurs because exposure to sunlight causes the skin to produce more melanin and to darken. The tan fades as these cells move toward the surface and are sloughed off. Health effects of sunlight exposure. The ultraviolet radiation in sunlight has both positive and negative health effects, as it is both a principal source of vitamin D3 and a mutagen. A dietary supplement can supply vitamin D without this mutagenic effect, but bypasses natural mechanisms that would prevent overdoses of vitamin D generated internally from sunlight. Vitamin D has a wide range of positive health effects, which include strengthening bones and possibly inhibiting the growth of some cancers. UV exposure also has positive effects for endorphin levels, and possibly for protection against multiple sclerosis. Visible sunlight to the eyes gives health benefits through its association with the timing of melatonin synthesis, maintenance of normal and robust circadian rhythms, and reduced risk of seasonal affective disorder. Long-term sunlight exposure is known to be associated with the development of skin cancer, skin aging, immune suppression, and eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Short-term over-exposure is the cause of sunburn, snow blindness, and solar retinopathy. UV rays, and therefore sunlight and sunlamps, are the only listed carcinogens that are known to have health benefits, and a number of public health organizations state that there needs to be a balance between the risks of having too much sunlight or too little. There is a general consensus that sunburn should always be avoided. Too much exposure to ultraviolet or UV rays can cause sunburn. UV rays penetrate the outer skin layers and pass into the deeper layers, where they can damage or kill skin cells. People who do not have much melanin and sun burn easily should protect themselves by covering up sensitive areas, wearing sun block, limiting their total exposure time, and limiting their sun exposure between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Frequent and prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays over many years is the chief cause of skin cancer. Examine skin regularly for development of suspicious growths or changes in an existing skin lesion. Early detection and treatment are key in increasing the cure rate for skin cancer. Risks to skin: Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation present in sunlight is an environmental human carcinogen. The toxic effects of UV from natural sunlight and therapeutic artificial lamps are a major concern for human health. The major acute effects of UV irradiation on normal human skin comprise sunburn inflammation erythema, tanning, and local or systemic immunosuppression. The most deadly form, malignant melanoma, is mostly caused by indirect DNA damage from UVA radiation. This can be seen from the absence of a direct UV signature mutation in 92% of all melanoma. UVC is the highest-energy, most-dangerous type of ultraviolet radiation, and causes adverse effects that can variously be mutagenic or carcinogenic. Despite the importance of the sun to vitamin D synthesis, it is prudent to limit the exposure of skin to UV radiation from sunlight and from tanning beds. According to the National Toxicology Program Report on Carcinogens from the US Department of Health and Human Services, broad-spectrum UV radiation is a carcinogen whose DNA damage is thought to contribute to most of the estimated 1.5 million skin cancers and the 8,000 deaths due to metastatic melanoma that occur annually in the United States. Lifetime cumulative UV exposure to skin is also responsible for significant age-associated dryness, wrinkling, elastin and collagen damage, freckling, age spots and other cosmetic changes. The American Academy of Dermatology advises that photoprotective measures be taken, including the use of sunscreen, whenever one is exposed to the sun. Short-term over-exposure causes the pain and itching of sunburn, which in extreme cases can produce more-severe effects like blistering. Cosmetic Procedures: Sun Exposure and Skin Cancer The sun's rays make us feel good, and in the short term, make us look good. But our love affair isn't a two-way street. Exposure to sun causes most of the wrinkles and age spots on our faces. Consider this: One woman at age 40 who has protected her skin from the sun actually has the skin of a 30-year-old!

We all know vitamin D is a vitamin that we need so why can't be get it from the sun? The truth is vitamin D is absolutely essential. It boots your immune system. It boosts your cardiovascular system. And it just feel really good. And you do get from the sun. You do get it from sun exposure. The problem with getting it from sun exposure is you get a lot of bad stuff too. And stuff that woman also regularly complain about. So, what do you do about that? My suggestion is to get vitamin D from a supplement. And wear sunscreen on your face and body. Sun exposure is the source of so much dangerous stuff and stuff that cosmetically woman don't like. So, I would wear sunscreen on the body and take vitamin D as a supplement. If you want to, get a little bit of sun exposure on your body knowing the risks. That would be my preference. That way you can get a little bit of really direct vitamin D exposure on your body and get it really soaked in and you're still protecting yourself from some of the really bad effects of sun on your face.

There is now documented evidence about the roles of solar ultraviolet-B radiation and vitamin D in reducing case-fatality rates from the 1918-1918 influenza Pandemic in EU. I quote: There are two mechanisms whereby vitamin D can reduce the risk of death once the pandemic influenza virus infection took hold: reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reduced risk of bacterial pneumonia. The type of vitamin D which can fight viruses can ONLY be made from natural sunlight. It is known as D3, which is made from sunlight when 7-dehydrocholesterol in our skin reacts with UV light. The sun is very important. Vitamin D like Vitamin C or Vitamin A is very important. When we are deficient in the sun, when we become deficient in the exposure, we became deficient in Vitamin D. Vitamin D is created to interact with the skin and the sun. Today doctors, specific the dermatologists, have turned the sun for many people into the enemy, when it is one of our best friends. The use of sunscreen, there are people who will not walk out of the door and spend one minute in the sun without putting a sunscreen. Some people go to the point where they do not walk around their own house without putting a sunscreen on. What the field of dermatology has done is cut off people from their Vitamin D. And this is showing up in many diseases including cancer. My recommendation, and this is not easy because it depends on the weather, one’s latitude, but getting exposure whether be through direct sun light until one is a little bit pink, for cancer patients it is very important, it is much better to take nutrients from the sun than it is to take Vitamin D supplements, though if one is in a high latitude where the weather is very cold and one cannot get to the sun and one cannot afford sun lamps, or going to these centers where they have tanning beds. Radiation, natural radiation, of the invisible spectrum, and into the infra-red, are healthy, are necessary. So, don´t pay attention to dermatologists, avoid the sunscreens to the maximum possible. Of course if one goes out into the noon sun, into the sun is high over head, and needs to spend some time, sure, sunscreen can protect us from being burnt, but there is nothing healthy about them, and there´s nothing really protective . We need the sun, we need sun exposure. We need Vitamin D. So for patients who are diseases, either increase their sun exposure, daily exposure, to the point of getting a little bit pink is incredibly healthy. If you if you can’t do that then take a good Vitamin D3.
