Hazard, Risk & Safety - Understanding Risk Assessment, Management and Perception

05:31
(subtitles available in English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Chinese and Russian, German, and a French version is available here: https://youtu.be/wRmfvFYDNr8) Hazard, Risk & Safety Danger, risques et sécurité Gevaar, risico's en veiligheid Peligro, riesgo y seguridad Опасность, риск и безопасность Gefahr, Risiko und Sicherheit We all hear these terms on a daily basis. So and so a chemical, physical or a biological agent poses a risk; This or that product is a hazard or behaving a certain way is unsafe. A lot of the time “hazard” and “risk” are freely used to mean the same thing. However they are not. Hazard is the potential to cause harm. Risk on the other hand is the likelihood of harm in defined circumstances. In a nutshell, hazard and risk are not always aligned as the risk depends on the exposure to the hazard ; similarly, risk, safety and perception of risk are not always aligned; this can make political decisions regarding safety levels difficult to make, in these cases it is especially important to base them on facts rather than on subjective perceptions. http://www.greenfacts.org

EFL / ESL Job Tip: Considerations for Planning a Demo Lesson for a Possible Job

03:20
This is Noga, Rennert International's Academic Director, giving a bit more guidance in terms of what to teach in a demonstration lesson for a possible employer. Transcript: Noga: Hi everyone! My name is Noga and I am the Academic Director of Rennert International based in New York City. What I would like to talk to you about today is what to do when you are giving a demonstration lesson. Usually when new teachers go through an interview process at a school, the school will always ask them to come in and give a demonstration lesson to its students to see how the teacher performs in front of the classroom. Normally, the demonstrations...these demonstration lessons are not long. Sometimes they're 15 minutes; sometimes they're 20 minutes; sometimes they're 30 minutes, but they usually don't go past 30 minutes. The demonstration lessons that we ask new teachers to give here at Rennert are 30 minutes long. So here are some ideas for what to do and maybe what not to do during a demonstration lesson. If your demonstration lesson is going to be grammar focused—if you are going to focus on a specific grammar point, keep in mind that you are going to have a very limited amount of time. So, choose a grammar point that can realistically be covered and practiced within the 30 minutes. So, this doesn't necessarily have to be a new grammar point for students; it can be something that they already know, but that you're just reviewing—a different aspect of the grammar with them. Or if you are going to be teaching students a new grammar point, just focus on one aspect of that point. You don't have to teach it completely because you only have 30 minutes. However, if you are going to be teaching a grammar point, make sure that your presentation, your grammar presentation, is clear and understandable...that you are evaluating the students properly and that you're giving the students appropriate practice activities—follow-up practice activities that allow them to use the grammar point in a real-life context and in a meaningful way. For a demonstration lesson you don't necessarily have to do a grammar point. You can also teach vocabulary. You could have a mini vocabulary lesson. However, if you are teaching students new vocabulary you have to make sure that you limit the number of new words. In a 30 minute lesson, perhaps you could introduce 5 or 6 words. And if you are going to be teaching students a vocabulary lesson, make sure that you have appropriate comprehension check questions that you ask; make sure that you allow the students to use the words in sentences and that you give your students, again, follow-up practice activities where they can use the vocabulary in a real-life context. You don't want to just introduce the words and that's it. You want to make sure that the students are able to practice them as well. Mini demo lessons, demonstration lessons, don't necessarily have to focus on grammar or vocabulary either. You can teach a mini pronunciation lesson; you can teach a mini reading lesson; you can teach a mini speaking lesson; you could teach a song! You could teach a haiku...you could teach a poem! There are a lot of different things that you can do in a demonstration lesson. But the most important thing to remember is to make sure that that demonstration lesson--that what you are teaching in that demonstration lesson is realistic and can be covered within the time frame that you have. So don't overwhelm yourself and don't overwhelm your students and you'll be fine. Hope this helps! Good luck!

FIND YOURSELF (BEST MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO 2018)

49:44
FIND YOURSELF (BEST MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO 2018) Figuring out who we are and what we want out of life can be challenging if at any point you, like me, veered off the course of self-exploration and self-acceptance. But eventually, life smacks us in the face enough times that we’re forced to admit the truth: we’re totally lost. In that moment, there is surrender to something much bigger than our individual selves, and we start this journey again. Only this time, we’re present; we’re tuned in to what’s up, and we’re ready. The path to figuring it all out requires a determination to stay committed to the trail, to hang on and keep moving forward, even when it gets tough – which it does. We travel to our darkest depths inside ourselves and see everything we’ve hidden, covered up, locked, and repressed. It all surfaces and it’s a wild ride. But, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel: our perspectives about our selves and this life shift tremendously and open the doors for some miraculous opportunities, love, and peace. I’ve learned some of these lessons the hard way, but once I learned them, life became a lot clearer and the road to wherever I’m going piqued by becoming effortless and enjoyable in more moments than not. There are still times that arise which aren’t so picturesque, I’m just better equipped to ride that rocky wave and can remind myself to settle into what I know. *CREDIT Tony Robbins, TOM BILYEU, Les Brown, Gary Vaynerchuk Visit Tony Robbins' websites: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/ http://www.unshakeable.com/ Follow Tony Robbins @: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TonyRobbins Twitter: https://twitter.com/tonyrobbins LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ajrobbins Google+: https://plus.google.com/+TonyRobbins Instagram: https://instagram.com/tonyrobbins/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/TonyRobbinsLive ► Subscribe to Gary Vaynerchuk’s Channel Here --https://www.youtube.com/user/GaryVaynerchuk Follow Gary Vaynerchuk Online Here: Instagram: http://instagram.com/garyvee Facebook: http://facebook.com/gary Snapchat: http://snapchat.com/add/garyvee Website: http://garyvaynerchuk.com Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/garyvee/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/garyvee Medium: http://medium.com/@garyvee Planet of the Apps: http://planetoftheapps.com Podcast: http://garyvaynerchuk.com/podcast Wine Library: http://winelibrary.com Subscribe to Gary Vaynerchuk’s VIP Newsletter for exclusive content and weekly giveaways here: http://garyvee.com/GARYVIP http://lesbrown.com/ More Info - http://www.lesbrown.com/‎ Email - yes@lesbrown.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Brown.Les FOLLOW TOM BILYEU TWITTER: http://bit.ly/2iyjY5P INSTAGRAM: http://bit.ly/2j7vqX8 FACEBOOK: http://bit.ly/2hPStWo FAIR-USE COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER * Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, commenting, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. This lesson comes from a request by Aditya from Maharashtra, India. Aditya says he is preparing for a competitive exam and he has to do reading comprehension exercises as part of the exam, and he wants to know the best way to do these. Before we start, if you want to request a lesson, just leave a comment. In your comment, tell me your name, and I will mention you in the video. OK, in this lesson I will give you some important tips and strategies for reading comprehension exercises. I will give you a reading plan that you can follow, and there are exercises in this lesson for you to practice. Alright, now my teaching experience is mostly with exams like the IELTS and TOEFL, but the tips that I give you in this lesson will help you in any exam situation. So the first thing is: when it comes to reading in an exam, budget your time. That means: you should know how many reading passages there are in the exam, how many exercises there are and how much time you have. In the IELTS exam, for example, there are three reading passages and you have one hour to do all of them. So then divide your time amongst those passages – for IELTS, you might spend roughly 20 minutes per passage. In some exams, one passage might be shorter or easier, and another passage might be longer or more difficult. In that case, obviously, you should plan to spend less time on the short passage, and more time on the long passage. And you should time yourself – if you are allowed to wear a watch in your exam, look at your watch and keep track of the time. If you plan for 20 minutes per passage, stick to that plan. Now, if you’re not allowed to wear a watch, then use the clock in the room or hall, or ask the invigilators how much time you have left. Alright, that’s the first thing: budgeting your time. So now the exam starts – and you have the first reading passage in front of you – what do you do? Well, I’ll tell you what you should NOT do – don’t start at the beginning and read slowly to the finish. Many students do this – and the problem is that when you get to the end, you will have forgotten a lot of the details in the middle, and when you read the questions, you have to go back and read the passage again to find the answers. Instead, here’s the plan that you should follow: your first step in reading should be to skim the passage. What does that mean? Well, skimming is actually something that we do with milk. It’s when you heat or boil milk, and the fat rises to the top in the form of cream. Removing that layer of fat is called skimming. When it comes to reading, skimming means to read the surface of the text quickly to understand the overall message. So if there’s a heading or title to the passage, and if there are subheadings, read all of these first. They will tell you the subject of the text. Then read the first sentence of each paragraph – they will give you a good idea of the overall message. Let’s practice this. You see two paragraphs on the screen, but only the first sentence in each paragraph is visible. Stop the video, read the sentences and try to understand the main topic in each paragraph. Alright, so what do you think the topic of the whole passage might be? It could be the negative effects of social media on children. What about the first paragraph? What is it about? Well it says that using social media can affect a child’s writing skills. And the second paragraph? It says that some people don’t agree with this – that is, the first paragraph – for two reasons: scientific reasons and practical reasons (pragmatic).

It's free and very enlightening. Dr. Berg talks about the power of intermittent fasting. This is not a diet, but a pattern of eating. Why does it work? Because it triggers Growth Hormone and inhibits insulin. The purpose of intermittent fasting is to lower insulin, take the stress off insulin and the gland that makes it - pancreas, and thus restore your metabolism. This can heal a plateaued set-point. If you have fat in your mid-section, then we know you have high insulin. INSULIN RESISTANCE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxl8h... WHAT TO EAT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHKay... Start with 3 meals per day, no snacking. Then do 3 meals per day but only eating your 3 meals in a 8 hour window, thus fasting for 16 hours. Ultimately, you want to fast for 20 hours and eat within a 4 hour window - 2 meals per day. If you add exercise, high intensity interval training, you can greatly enhance Growth Hormone even more. FILM DESCRIPTION: Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) is a computer programmer working for Initech in Houston. Every day, he and his friends Samir (Ajay Naidu) and Michael Bolton (David Herman as not THAT Michael Bolton), suffer endless indignities and humiliations in their soulless workspace from their soulless boss, Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole). For Peter, stuck in his cookie-cutter apartment with paper-thin walls and IKEA furniture, every day is worse than the one before it -- so every day is the worst of his life. To cap it off, Initech has hired a pair of "efficiency experts" to downsize the company. One Friday night, Peter's soon to be ex-girlfriend Anne (Alexandra Wentworth) forces him to go to an occupational hypnotherapist to relieve work stress. While Peter is under hypnosis, the therapist keels over and dies. As he never snaps out of his hypnotic state, Peter has a new outlook on life. If something annoys him, he just ignores it or walks away from it. He is completely relaxed and enjoying life for the first time in a long time. On Monday, Peter skips work and sleeps in. He gets up for lunch and drives down to a restaurant next to his office and asks the waitress he's had a crush on, Joanna (Jennifer Aniston), on a date. When Peter stops into the office to pick up his organizer, he's called in to talk to the efficiency experts. Relaxed and friendly, Peter charms them as he describes everything wrong with the office, including his boss. Even as Peter now appears at work only as the mood strikes him, the experts decide he's management material and give him a promotion even as they lay off the hardworking Samir and Michael. Peter then convinces his friends to exact revenge on Initech based upon an idea from Superman III. Not everything works out quite as planned. Office Space originated from writer/director Mike Judge's first animated short of the same name, created in 1991. The short was about Milton (reproduced in the film by Stephen Root), a damaged office drone whose complaints and threats about his sufferings go unheeded.
