The House of Representatives will vote today on the Republican-backed health care bill. Opponents of the bill are already attacking Republicans for scheduling a vote before the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has analyzed the amended bill. The CBO score would project the effects of the bill--the changes in the number of insured premiums and its impact on the federal deficit. _ Hit the thumbs up button if you want to see more content like this. GOP New Healthcare Plan: Emergency Rooms!

04:36
Heritage president and former South Carolina senator Jim DeMint continued his campaign to convince Republicans to shut down the government in a ploy to defund the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, telling a town hall in Tampa, Florida that "This might be that last off-ramp to stop Obamacare before it becomes more enmeshed in our culture." The law "is not about getting better health care," he continued. Uninsured Americans "will get better health care just going to the emergency room." Trump Helping Insurance Companies Cap Your Healthcare Coverage

This is going to cost you, America. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join Read more here: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/2/20/17031640/short-term-insurance-trump-obamacare "The Trump administration is opening up a new avenue for Americans to buy health insurance that does not comply with the Affordable Care Act’s regulations, the latest step in Donald Trump’s administrative crusade against the health care law. The US Department of Health and Human Services’ new proposed regulations would allow Americans to buy short-term insurance for up to 364 days. That coverage is allowed to skirt several of the health care law’s core provisions: Plans can deny people insurance based on their medical history, charge them higher premiums because of their preexisting medical conditions, and craft skimpy benefits packages that will appeal mostly to young and healthy people. By broadening the definition of short-term insurance, the Trump administration is opening more loopholes for more people to buy insurance outside the health care law’s marketplaces. In the eyes of the administration, this is fulfilling a campaign promise that President Trump made to give people relief from Obamacare. “It’s one step in providing Americans with health insurance that is both more affordable and more suited to individual and family circumstances,” HHS Secretary Alex Azar told reporters on Tuesday.”* Hosts: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola Cast: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Read the fine print with low-cost healthcare plans

FOX 25 Boston News - http://www.myfoxboston.com - There are thousands of options when it comes to health care coverage. As Paul Gaznick of Methuen found out, its important to choose wisely. A single father, Paul fell on hard times when the economy soured. His welding and fabricating business wasnt bringing enough in to support him and his 17-year-old son, Justin. I wasnt worried about me, maybe I should have been. He was my main concern. I have had him since hes been born, Paul Gaznick said. Paul was looking for ways to save, so when a fax arrived from a New Jersey-based company called National Alliance, he signed up. It offered a family plan for $300 instead of the $900 he was paying. He thought it was a great deal, until he actually needed it when his son suffered serious burns. How Health Insurance Works

06:30
When I consider purchasing an individual health insurance plan for myself or my family, do I have any financial obligations beyond the monthly premium and annual deductible? Answers: It depends on the plan, but some plans have the following cost-sharing elements that you should be aware of. Co-Payments: Some plans include a co-payment, which is typically a specific flat fee you pay for each medical service, such as $30 for an office visit. After the co-payment is made, the insurance company typically pays the remainder of the covered medical charges. Deductibles: Some plans include a deductible, which typically refers to the amount of money you must pay each year before your health insurance plan starts to pay for covered medical expenses. Coinsurance: Some plans include coinsurance. Coinsurance is a cost sharing requirement that makes you responsible for paying a certain percentage of any costs. The insurance company pays the remaining percentage of the covered medical expenses after your insurance deductible is met. Out-of-pocket limit: Some plans include an out-of-pocket limit. Typically, the out-of-pocket limit is the maximum amount you will pay out of your own pocket for covered medical expenses in a given year. The out-of-pocket limit typically includes deductibles and coinsurance. But, out-of-pocket limits don't typically apply to co-payments. Lifetime maximum: Most plans include a lifetime maximum. Typically the lifetime maximum is the amount your insurance plan will pay for covered medical expenses in the course of your lifetime. Exclusions & Limitations: Most health insurance carriers disclose exclusions & limitations of their plans. It is always a good idea to know what benefits are limited and which services are excluded on your plan. You will be obligated to pay for 100% of services that are excluded on your policy. Beginning September 23, 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (health care reform) begins to phase out annual dollar limits. Starting on September 23, 2012, annual limits on health insurance plans must be at least $2 million. By 2014 no new health insurance plan will be permitted to have an annual dollar limit on most covered benefits. Some health insurance plans purchased before March 23, 2010 have what is called "grandfathered status." Health Insurance Plans with Grandfathered status are exempt from several changes required by health care reform including this phase out of annual limits on health coverage. If you purchased your health insurance policy after March 23, 2010 and you're due for a routine preventive care screening like a mammogram or colonoscopy, you may be able to receive that preventive care screening without making a co-payment. You can talk to your insurer or your licensed eHealthInsurance agent if you need help determining whether or not you qualify for a screening without a co-payment. There are five important changes that occurred with individual and family health insurance policies on September 23, 2010. Those changes are: 1. Added protection from rate increases: Insurance companies will need to publically disclose any rate increases and provide justification before raising your monthly premiums. 2. Added protection from having insurance canceled: An insurance company cannot cancel your policy except in cases of intentional misrepresentations or fraud. 3. Coverage for preventive care: Certain recommended preventive services, immunizations, and screenings will be covered with no cost sharing requirement. 4. No lifetime maximums on health coverage: No lifetime limits on the dollar value of those health benefits deemed to be essential by the Department of Health and Human Services. 5. No pre-existing condition exclusions for children: If you have children under the age of 19 with pre-existing medical conditions, their application for health insurance cannot be declined due to a pre-existing medical condition. In some states a child may need to wait for the state's open-enrollment period before their application will be approved.

Why Are American Health Care Costs So High?

07:53
In which John discusses the complicated reasons why the United States spends so much more on health care than any other country in the world, and along the way reveals some surprising information, including that Americans spend more of their tax dollars on public health care than people in Canada, the UK, or Australia. Who's at fault? Insurance companies? Drug companies? Malpractice lawyers? Hospitals? Or is it more complicated than a simple blame game? (Hint: It's that one.) For a much more thorough examination of health care expenses in America, I recommend this series at The Incidental Economist: http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/what-makes-the-us-health-care-system-so-expensive-introduction/ The Commonwealth Fund's Study of Health Care Prices in the US: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/~/media/Files/Publications/Issue%20Brief/2012/May/1595_Squires_explaining_high_hlt_care_spending_intl_brief.pdf Some of the stats in this video also come from this New York Times story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/02/health/colonoscopies-explain-why-us-leads-the-world-in-health-expenditures.html?pagewanted=all This is the first part in what will be a periodic series on health care costs and reforms leading up to the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, in 2014.

Trumpcare: Billionaire Tax Cut Disguised As Healthcare Plan

07:08
The AHCA is going to kill thousands of Americans and bankrupt thousands more so the owner class can have an even bigger tax cut than they’re already going to get. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join "Senate Republican leadership released a draft of its long-awaited healthcare bill Thursday, ending weeks of speculation and a secretive process that frustrated Democrats and even some Republicans. The legislation — called the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 — would roll back much of the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare law better known as Obamacare, including various tax provisions. It would also scale back funding that goes toward health coverage for low-income Americans and tax credits for middle-income earners who purchase their own health insurance, according to the draft released Thursday. The plan would also provide funding designed to help stabilize the Obamacare insurance markets in the near term and funnel money through programs to cut off access to funding for abortion providers.”* Read more here: http://www.businessinsider.com/senate-healthcare-bill-trumpcare-ahca-details-2017-6 Hosts: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola Cast: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Q&A on Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Industry - Pfizer CEO Ian Read

28:47
"When it comes to drugs, Europe is ‘free-riding’ and committing ‘blackmail.' Pfizer CEO Ian Read delivered remarks on health care and the pharmaceutical industry. He said he opposed any legislation that placed price controls on pharmaceutical drugs, calling it bad policy. He also outlined recommendations on how to improve America’s health care system. These recommendations included the need for more incentives in health care prevention and eliminating the approval backlog for generics. Professional Profile: Ian Read, 59, has spent his entire career at Pfizer ($PFE), joining the company in 1978 as an auditor. He job-hopped and globe-trotted, first through Latin America and then to Europe and on to corporate headquarters. Before taking over as CEO at the end of 2010, he was a corporate SVP and president of the worldwide pharma businesses. Total Compensation: $25.634 million Compensation Breakdown: $1.74 million in salary, $3.4 million bonus, $6.44 million in stock, $6.5 million in options and $7.15 million in pension and deferred compensation, plus $409,892 worth of perks, car service, company aircraft privileges and other compensation. Company Performance: Besides heading up the biggest drugmaker on the globe, Read has set the industry talking with his plans to streamline Pfizer. His back-to-pharma-basics strategy has won fans in the investment community, and analysts are hoping for more spinoffs and breakups, if not at Pfizer, then perhaps at Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ) or another diversified Big Pharma company. Read announced his intent to spin off or sell two business units back in 2011, and last year, the plan started coming to fruition. Pfizer sold its nutrition unit to Nestle for $11.9 billion and laid the legal groundwork for the spinoff of its animal health division, Zoetis. That unit's bond sale and IPO, wrapped up early this year, beat all expectations. Meanwhile, the company has been slimming down in another way: by cutting costs. The company's workforce shrank by more than 12,000 last year, and more layoffs were announced in December. An R&D restructuring also contributed to planned cost savings of $4.5 billion a year. What's left? The company's designated core operations--its R&D-based pharma business, and its "value" businesses in off-patent drugs and consumer healthcare. It was a tough year, saleswise; generic competition for key products, including Pfizer's longtime best-seller Lipitor, took a $7-billion-plus bite out of revenue. Even the company's new childhood vaccine, Prevnar 13, acquired along with Wyeth in 2009, began to falter. But the company's emerging markets sales are growing, if not as quickly as it may have hoped. More importantly, 5 new drugs won regulatory approval before year's end, including the orphan drug Elelyso, for Gaucher disease; the rheumatoid arthritis fighter Xeljanz; and the anticoagulant Eliquis, widely pegged as a major blockbuster.

Negotiation 101: Trump & Healthcare

22:16
How President Donald Trump is applying basic negotiation tactics in his healthcare plan and how this is similar to what I teach in my book, How To Be A 3% Man. In this video-coaching newsletter I discuss what every media personality, politician and pundit is missing about Donald Trump’s long-term strategy of deal making and negotiation, so he can ultimately get the deal he wants and honor his campaign pledges. I explain how the negotiation and life strategies taught in my book match up with his strategy to get the long-term health care deal he really wants, even though for now he is walking away and moving on to tax reform. I also explain how his walking away now will enable him to be in a stronger position of leverage down the road to get an even better deal than he was willing to take now. “When you can’t get the deal you want now and you’re not willing to settle for less than you really want, you must walk away and mean it. If you are desperate to get a deal done, the other parties will sense your weakness and you will lose any leverage you might have had. By not being attached to your outcome and how you achieve it, you can walk away from a position of strength. The person who is least invested in making a deal now is always in the stronger negotiating position to get the deal they want later if they’re willing to wait and hold out for what they really want. Sometimes you have to call the other person’s bluff and let a deal die. When they become more desperate to get a deal done, they will come back and give you the terms you really want. When it comes to deal making and getting what you want, impatience will never command success.” ~ Coach Corey Wayne Click the link below to read the article “Negotiation 101: Trump & Healthcare” on my website: https://understandingrelationships.com/negotiation-101-trump-healthcare/30682 If you have not read my book yet, that would be a good starting place for you. Ana Navarro on GOP Healthcare Plan, "Trump is Pregnant with an UGLY Baby" - HILARIOUS

07:29
MUST-SEE Ana Navarro: "Trump is Passing that BABY to PAUL RYAN" Ana Navarro weighs in on the latest GOP In-Fighting surrounding the GOP Obamacare replacement plan. It's widely viewed as a DISASTER on both sides of the aisle. Trump and Paul Ryan are in the awkward position of drumming up support from fiery Republicans that don't want to lose their healthcare. This problem is compounded after a seven year campaign of criticism of President Obama's plan. It's evident that Republicans never really had a viable replacement plan in the works. They produced a pitiful 100 page document to address healthcare for the entire nation. The Affordable Care Act is 3500 plus pages. How seriously could they be taking it?

Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk 9/27/10: Healthcare Reform: A Huge Misdiagnosis

04:12
http://paul.house.gov http://CampaignForLiberty.com This week marked six months since Congress passed the healthcare reform bill in what has become all-too-typical legislative chicanery. Those in power crafted a mammoth piece of legislation and rammed it through Congress under a dire sense of emergency. Insisting on time enough to read the bill was dismissed as dangerous and crazy in a time of crisis. We were told that if we really wanted to see what was in the bill, we would have to pass it first. I cannot imagine the founding fathers intended for Congress to legislate in this manner. I would think if a Member is not absolutely certain the entire legislation meets Constitutional muster, the default vote should be "no" in accordance with our oath of office. But now that Congress has had six months to read the new law, there is a significant amount of buyer's remorse on Capitol Hill. The more constituents learn about the law, the more angry they become. 60% of Americans are now said to be in favor of repealing the entire thing. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult to repeal a law than to pass a bill. I wrote a while back about the egregious provision to require businesses to issue 1099s for all transactions over $600 as a way to partially pay for it. I have cosponsored legislation to fix this issue, yet this is just the tip of the iceberg. First of all, in spite of the administration repeating over and over that this legislation would not increase costs for Americans, they are now saying they knew all along that it would. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that American families will see their premiums rise by an average of $2100 by 2016. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the cost of compliance is forcing some insurers to increase premiums by up to 20% as soon as next year! Also, in spite of repeated claims from the administration that we could all keep our plans and doctors if we liked them, the administration's own officials are now predicting that won't be true for up to 117 million Americans who will lose their current plans. Major insurers are also dropping child-only plans because of mandates and price-fixing on such policies, leaving parents with fewer choices for their children, not more. In addition, in spite of claiming this law would contain government costs, not increase them, administration actuaries now predict it will increase healthcare spending by over $300 billion. This additional spending comes along with doctor shortages, fewer choices and more taxes. Perhaps worst of all, increases in labor costs because of health insurance mandates are discouraging employers from hiring new workers and even triggering more layoffs. Anyone with a basic understanding of Austrian economics could have predicted the unintended consequences of these new healthcare policies. Central planning never increases choices and quality or cuts costs as promised. Price controls and government mandates always create artificial scarcity. Healthcare is not a right, nor a privilege. It is a product, like food or clothing. As with any good or service, the free market regulation of supply and demand provides the optimum quality to the maximum number of people. Once we realize the problems we are trying to solve today were created by government intervention beginning in the 1960's, we can begin to put patients and doctors back in control of healthcare, rather than third party oligopolies and government bureaucrats. The sooner, the better.

Congress Killing YOUR Obamacare, Keeping Theirs

Congress has exempted themselves from any of the negative consequences that may arise as a result of their disastrous healthcare plan. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://tytnetwork.com/go "Republican legislators liked this policy well enough to offer it in a new amendment. They do not, however, seem to like it enough to have it apply to themselves and their staff. A spokesperson for Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), who authored this amendment, confirmed this was the case: Members of Congress and their staff would get the guarantee of keeping these Obamacare regulations. Health law expert Tim Jost flagged this particular issue to me. A bit of background is helpful here. Obamacare requires all members of Congress and their staff to purchase coverage through the health law’s marketplace, just like Obamacare enrollees. The politics of that plank were simple enough, meant to demonstrate that if the coverage in this law were good enough for Americans, it should be good enough for their representatives in Washington.”* Read more here: http://www.vox.com/2017/4/25/15429982/gop-exemption-ahca-amendment Hosts: Cenk Uygur, John IadarolaCast: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Industry - Pfizer CEO Ian Read

25:49
