The Republican health care bill makes no sense

04:50
The bill doesn’t know what problem it’s trying to solve. For more Vox analysis: http://www.vox.com/2017/1/5/14179258/obamacare-repeal-republican-votes-trump You can read the bill here: http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/06/politics/house-republicans-obamacare-repeal-replace-text/ https://waysandmeans.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/03.06.17-AmericanHealthCareAct_Summary.pdf Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Republicans in the House have finally released a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare: the American Health Care Act. The GOP healthcare bill keeps some of the most popular parts of Obamacare, like letting young adults stay on their parents' health insurance until age 26 and requiring insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions. But the Republican bill gets rid of the key element that made Obamacare work: the individual mandate. Now that people aren't required to have insurance, healthy people could leave insurance pools en masse, leaving sick people who are more expensive to cover. Hypocrisy is a minor sin in politics, but still, it is remarkable how much of it there is to be found in this legislation. A core Republican complaint when Obamacare was passed was that the law delayed many of its provisions in order to reduce public outcry and manipulate the CBO’s score. The GOP bill is similarly aggressive with such tricks, delaying changes to the Medicaid expansion until 2020 and pushing Obamacare’s tax on expensive insurance plans out until 2025. Because Republicans aren’t even trying to win Democratic votes, they’re stuck designing a bill that can wiggle through the budget reconciliation process (another thing they complained about Democrats doing). That means they can’t make major changes to insurance markets like repealing Obamacare’s essential benefit standards or allowing insurance to be sold across state lines. That last part is particularly striking, given that it was one of President Trump’s five demands in his speech last week. I’ve always been skeptical about the savings Republicans could wrest by changing those regulations, but now they can’t get those savings at all — which means sacrificing a key part of their theory of cost control. This bill has a lot of problems, and more will come clear as experts study its language, the Congressional Budget Office release its estimates, and industry players make themselves heard. But the biggest problem this bill has is that it’s not clear why it exists. What does it make better? What is it even trying to achieve? Democrats wanted to cover more people and reduce long-term costs, and they had an argument for how their bill did both. As far as I can tell, Republicans have neither. At best, you can say this bill makes every obvious health care metric a bit worse, but at least it cuts taxes on rich people? Is that really a winning argument in American politics? In reality, what I think we’re seeing here is Republicans trying desperately to come up with something that would allow them to repeal and replace Obamacare. This is a compromise of a compromise of a compromise aimed at fulfilling that promise. But “repeal and replace” is a political slogan, not a policy goal. This is a lot of political pain to endure for a bill that won’t improve many peoples’ lives, but will badly hurt millions. Read the fine print with low-cost healthcare plans

02:57
FOX 25 Boston News - http://www.myfoxboston.com - There are thousands of options when it comes to health care coverage. As Paul Gaznick of Methuen found out, its important to choose wisely. A single father, Paul fell on hard times when the economy soured. His welding and fabricating business wasnt bringing enough in to support him and his 17-year-old son, Justin. I wasnt worried about me, maybe I should have been. He was my main concern. I have had him since hes been born, Paul Gaznick said. Paul was looking for ways to save, so when a fax arrived from a New Jersey-based company called National Alliance, he signed up. It offered a family plan for $300 instead of the $900 he was paying. He thought it was a great deal, until he actually needed it when his son suffered serious burns. Negotiation 101: Trump & Healthcare

22:16
How President Donald Trump is applying basic negotiation tactics in his healthcare plan and how this is similar to what I teach in my book, How To Be A 3% Man. In this video-coaching newsletter I discuss what every media personality, politician and pundit is missing about Donald Trump’s long-term strategy of deal making and negotiation, so he can ultimately get the deal he wants and honor his campaign pledges. I explain how the negotiation and life strategies taught in my book match up with his strategy to get the long-term health care deal he really wants, even though for now he is walking away and moving on to tax reform. I also explain how his walking away now will enable him to be in a stronger position of leverage down the road to get an even better deal than he was willing to take now. “When you can’t get the deal you want now and you’re not willing to settle for less than you really want, you must walk away and mean it. If you are desperate to get a deal done, the other parties will sense your weakness and you will lose any leverage you might have had. By not being attached to your outcome and how you achieve it, you can walk away from a position of strength. The person who is least invested in making a deal now is always in the stronger negotiating position to get the deal they want later if they’re willing to wait and hold out for what they really want. Sometimes you have to call the other person’s bluff and let a deal die. When they become more desperate to get a deal done, they will come back and give you the terms you really want. When it comes to deal making and getting what you want, impatience will never command success.” ~ Coach Corey Wayne Click the link below to read the article “Negotiation 101: Trump & Healthcare” on my website: https://understandingrelationships.com/negotiation-101-trump-healthcare/30682 If you have not read my book yet, that would be a good starting place for you. GOP To Vote On A Health Care Plan They Haven't Read & Exempt

The House of Representatives will vote today on the Republican-backed health care bill. Opponents of the bill are already attacking Republicans for scheduling a vote before the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has analyzed the amended bill. The CBO score would project the effects of the bill--the changes in the number of insured premiums and its impact on the federal deficit. _ Hit the thumbs up button if you want to see more content like this. Trump Helping Insurance Companies Cap Your Healthcare Coverage

This is going to cost you, America. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join Read more here: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/2/20/17031640/short-term-insurance-trump-obamacare "The Trump administration is opening up a new avenue for Americans to buy health insurance that does not comply with the Affordable Care Act’s regulations, the latest step in Donald Trump’s administrative crusade against the health care law. The US Department of Health and Human Services’ new proposed regulations would allow Americans to buy short-term insurance for up to 364 days. That coverage is allowed to skirt several of the health care law’s core provisions: Plans can deny people insurance based on their medical history, charge them higher premiums because of their preexisting medical conditions, and craft skimpy benefits packages that will appeal mostly to young and healthy people. By broadening the definition of short-term insurance, the Trump administration is opening more loopholes for more people to buy insurance outside the health care law’s marketplaces. In the eyes of the administration, this is fulfilling a campaign promise that President Trump made to give people relief from Obamacare. “It’s one step in providing Americans with health insurance that is both more affordable and more suited to individual and family circumstances,” HHS Secretary Alex Azar told reporters on Tuesday.”* Hosts: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola Cast: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. How Health Insurance Works

06:30
When I consider purchasing an individual health insurance plan for myself or my family, do I have any financial obligations beyond the monthly premium and annual deductible? Answers: It depends on the plan, but some plans have the following cost-sharing elements that you should be aware of. Co-Payments: Some plans include a co-payment, which is typically a specific flat fee you pay for each medical service, such as $30 for an office visit. After the co-payment is made, the insurance company typically pays the remainder of the covered medical charges. Deductibles: Some plans include a deductible, which typically refers to the amount of money you must pay each year before your health insurance plan starts to pay for covered medical expenses. Coinsurance: Some plans include coinsurance. Coinsurance is a cost sharing requirement that makes you responsible for paying a certain percentage of any costs. The insurance company pays the remaining percentage of the covered medical expenses after your insurance deductible is met. Out-of-pocket limit: Some plans include an out-of-pocket limit. Typically, the out-of-pocket limit is the maximum amount you will pay out of your own pocket for covered medical expenses in a given year. The out-of-pocket limit typically includes deductibles and coinsurance. But, out-of-pocket limits don't typically apply to co-payments. Lifetime maximum: Most plans include a lifetime maximum. Typically the lifetime maximum is the amount your insurance plan will pay for covered medical expenses in the course of your lifetime. Exclusions & Limitations: Most health insurance carriers disclose exclusions & limitations of their plans. It is always a good idea to know what benefits are limited and which services are excluded on your plan. You will be obligated to pay for 100% of services that are excluded on your policy. Beginning September 23, 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (health care reform) begins to phase out annual dollar limits. Starting on September 23, 2012, annual limits on health insurance plans must be at least $2 million. By 2014 no new health insurance plan will be permitted to have an annual dollar limit on most covered benefits. Some health insurance plans purchased before March 23, 2010 have what is called "grandfathered status." Health Insurance Plans with Grandfathered status are exempt from several changes required by health care reform including this phase out of annual limits on health coverage. If you purchased your health insurance policy after March 23, 2010 and you're due for a routine preventive care screening like a mammogram or colonoscopy, you may be able to receive that preventive care screening without making a co-payment. You can talk to your insurer or your licensed eHealthInsurance agent if you need help determining whether or not you qualify for a screening without a co-payment. There are five important changes that occurred with individual and family health insurance policies on September 23, 2010. Those changes are: 1. Added protection from rate increases: Insurance companies will need to publically disclose any rate increases and provide justification before raising your monthly premiums. 2. Added protection from having insurance canceled: An insurance company cannot cancel your policy except in cases of intentional misrepresentations or fraud. 3. Coverage for preventive care: Certain recommended preventive services, immunizations, and screenings will be covered with no cost sharing requirement. 4. No lifetime maximums on health coverage: No lifetime limits on the dollar value of those health benefits deemed to be essential by the Department of Health and Human Services. 5. No pre-existing condition exclusions for children: If you have children under the age of 19 with pre-existing medical conditions, their application for health insurance cannot be declined due to a pre-existing medical condition. In some states a child may need to wait for the state's open-enrollment period before their application will be approved.

Let's Put Patients and Doctors Back in Control of Healthcare!

04:14
09/27/2010 - http://www.RonPaul.com This week marks six months since Congress passed the healthcare reform bill in what has become all-too-typical legislative chicanery. Those in power crafted a mammoth piece of legislation and rammed it through Congress under a dire sense of emergency. Insisting on time enough to read the bill was dismissed as dangerous and crazy in a time of crisis. We were told that if we really wanted to see what was in the bill we would have to pass it first. I cannot imagine the Founding Fathers intended that Congress legislate in this manner. I would think if a member is not absolutely certain the entire legislation meets constitutional muster, the default vote should be "no" in accordance with our oath of office. But now that Congress has had six months to read the new law, there is a significant amount of buyer's remorse on Capitol Hill. The more constituents learn about the law, the more angry they become. 60% of Americans are now to be said in favor of repealing the entire thing. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult to repeal a law than it is to pass a bill. I wrote a while back about the egregious provision to require businesses to issue 1099s for all transactions over $600 as a way to partially pay for it. I have co-sponsored legislation to fix this issue, yet this is just the tip of the iceberg. First of all, in spite of the administration repeating over and over that this legislation would not increase costs for Americans, they are now saying they knew all along that it would. The Congressional Budget office estimates that American families will see their premiums rise by an average of $2,100 by 2016. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the cost of compliance is forcing some insurers to increase premiums by up to 20% as soon as next year. Also, in spite of repeated claims from the administration that we could all keep our plans and doctors if we liked them, the administration's own officials are now predicting that won't be true for up to 117 million Americans who will lose their current plans. Major insurers are also dropping child-only plans because of mandates and price fixing on such policies leaving parents with fewer choices for their children, not more. In addition, in spite of claiming this law would contain government costs, not increase them, administration actuaries now predict it will increase healthcare spending by over $300 billion. This additional spending comes along with doctor shortages, fewer choices and more taxes, perhaps, worst of all, increases in labor cost because of health insurance mandates are discouraging employers from hiring new workers and even triggering more layoffs. Anyone with a basic understanding of Austrian economics could have predicted the unintended consequences of these new healthcare policies. Central planning never increases choices and quality or cuts costs as promised. Price controls and government mandates always create artificial scarcity. Healthcare is not a right or privilege. It is a product, like food or clothing. As with any good or service, the free market regulation of supply and demand provides the optimal quality to the maximum number of people. Once we realize the problems we are trying to solve today were created by government intervention beginning in the 1960s, we can begin to put patients back in control of healthcare, rather than third party oligopolies and government bureaucrats. The sooner the better. -- -- Ron Paul is America's leading voice for limited, constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, a return to sound monetary policies, and a sensible foreign policy that puts America first. Single-Payer Universal Health Care Explained

05:49
There’s been a lot of fear mongering about the cost of Bernie Sanders’s health care plan. Time to set the record straight. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. "Single-payer national health insurance, also known as “Medicare for all,” is a system in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health care financing, but the delivery of care remains largely in private hands. Under a single-payer system, all residents of the U.S. would be covered for all medically necessary services, including doctor, hospital, preventive, long-term care, mental health, reproductive health care, dental, vision, prescription drug and medical supply costs. The program would be funded by the savings obtained from replacing today’s inefficient, profit-oriented, multiple insurance payers with a single streamlined, nonprofit, public payer, and by modest new taxes based on ability to pay. Premiums would disappear; 95 percent of all households would save money. Patients would no longer face financial barriers to care such as co-pays and deductibles, and would regain free choice of doctor and hospital. Doctors would regain autonomy over patient care.”* Read more here: http://www.pnhp.org/facts/what-is-single-payer *** Download audio and video of the full two hour show on-demand + the members-only post game show by becoming a member at http://www.tytnetwork.com/join/. GOP New Healthcare Plan: Emergency Rooms!

04:36
Heritage president and former South Carolina senator Jim DeMint continued his campaign to convince Republicans to shut down the government in a ploy to defund the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, telling a town hall in Tampa, Florida that "This might be that last off-ramp to stop Obamacare before it becomes more enmeshed in our culture." The law "is not about getting better health care," he continued. Uninsured Americans "will get better health care just going to the emergency room." Q&A on Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Industry - Pfizer CEO Ian Read

28:47
"When it comes to drugs, Europe is ‘free-riding’ and committing ‘blackmail.' Pfizer CEO Ian Read delivered remarks on health care and the pharmaceutical industry. He said he opposed any legislation that placed price controls on pharmaceutical drugs, calling it bad policy. He also outlined recommendations on how to improve America’s health care system. These recommendations included the need for more incentives in health care prevention and eliminating the approval backlog for generics. Professional Profile: Ian Read, 59, has spent his entire career at Pfizer ($PFE), joining the company in 1978 as an auditor. He job-hopped and globe-trotted, first through Latin America and then to Europe and on to corporate headquarters. Before taking over as CEO at the end of 2010, he was a corporate SVP and president of the worldwide pharma businesses. Total Compensation: $25.634 million Compensation Breakdown: $1.74 million in salary, $3.4 million bonus, $6.44 million in stock, $6.5 million in options and $7.15 million in pension and deferred compensation, plus $409,892 worth of perks, car service, company aircraft privileges and other compensation. Company Performance: Besides heading up the biggest drugmaker on the globe, Read has set the industry talking with his plans to streamline Pfizer. His back-to-pharma-basics strategy has won fans in the investment community, and analysts are hoping for more spinoffs and breakups, if not at Pfizer, then perhaps at Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ) or another diversified Big Pharma company. Read announced his intent to spin off or sell two business units back in 2011, and last year, the plan started coming to fruition. Pfizer sold its nutrition unit to Nestle for $11.9 billion and laid the legal groundwork for the spinoff of its animal health division, Zoetis. That unit's bond sale and IPO, wrapped up early this year, beat all expectations. Meanwhile, the company has been slimming down in another way: by cutting costs. The company's workforce shrank by more than 12,000 last year, and more layoffs were announced in December. An R&D restructuring also contributed to planned cost savings of $4.5 billion a year. What's left? The company's designated core operations--its R&D-based pharma business, and its "value" businesses in off-patent drugs and consumer healthcare. It was a tough year, saleswise; generic competition for key products, including Pfizer's longtime best-seller Lipitor, took a $7-billion-plus bite out of revenue. Even the company's new childhood vaccine, Prevnar 13, acquired along with Wyeth in 2009, began to falter. But the company's emerging markets sales are growing, if not as quickly as it may have hoped. More importantly, 5 new drugs won regulatory approval before year's end, including the orphan drug Elelyso, for Gaucher disease; the rheumatoid arthritis fighter Xeljanz; and the anticoagulant Eliquis, widely pegged as a major blockbuster.

Why Are American Health Care Costs So High?

07:53
In which John discusses the complicated reasons why the United States spends so much more on health care than any other country in the world, and along the way reveals some surprising information, including that Americans spend more of their tax dollars on public health care than people in Canada, the UK, or Australia. Who's at fault? Insurance companies? Drug companies? Malpractice lawyers? Hospitals? Or is it more complicated than a simple blame game? (Hint: It's that one.) For a much more thorough examination of health care expenses in America, I recommend this series at The Incidental Economist: http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/what-makes-the-us-health-care-system-so-expensive-introduction/ The Commonwealth Fund's Study of Health Care Prices in the US: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/~/media/Files/Publications/Issue%20Brief/2012/May/1595_Squires_explaining_high_hlt_care_spending_intl_brief.pdf Some of the stats in this video also come from this New York Times story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/02/health/colonoscopies-explain-why-us-leads-the-world-in-health-expenditures.html?pagewanted=all This is the first part in what will be a periodic series on health care costs and reforms leading up to the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, in 2014.

Trumpcare: Billionaire Tax Cut Disguised As Healthcare Plan

07:08
The AHCA is going to kill thousands of Americans and bankrupt thousands more so the owner class can have an even bigger tax cut than they’re already going to get. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join "Senate Republican leadership released a draft of its long-awaited healthcare bill Thursday, ending weeks of speculation and a secretive process that frustrated Democrats and even some Republicans. The legislation — called the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 — would roll back much of the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare law better known as Obamacare, including various tax provisions. It would also scale back funding that goes toward health coverage for low-income Americans and tax credits for middle-income earners who purchase their own health insurance, according to the draft released Thursday. The plan would also provide funding designed to help stabilize the Obamacare insurance markets in the near term and funnel money through programs to cut off access to funding for abortion providers.”* Read more here: http://www.businessinsider.com/senate-healthcare-bill-trumpcare-ahca-details-2017-6 Hosts: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola Cast: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. CBO: Republican Healthcare Plan A Death Sentence

07:50
The Republican healthcare plan has been scored by the CBO. The results are bad. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join "The Congressional Budget Office on Wednesday released an updated score for the American Health Care Act, the House GOP healthcare bill, that said it could leave millions more uninsured and undermine protections for people with preexisting conditions. The CBO projected that 23 million more Americans would be uninsured by 2026 compared with the current healthcare system — slightly lower than the 24 million more Americans it estimated would be uninsured under the previous iteration of the bill. "Premiums would vary significantly according to health status and the types of benefits provided, and less healthy people would face extremely high premiums," the CBO's report said. The report, conducted in the wake of two amendments to the bill before it passed the House earlier this month, projected that the AHCA would cut the federal deficit by $119 billion — $32 billion less than the savings the CBO estimated in March.”* Read more here: http://www.businessinsider.com/cbo-score-house-gop-healthcare-bill-ahca-macarthur-upton-amendments-2017-5 Hosts: Cenk Uygur Cast: Cenk Uygur *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Bernie Sanders OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES Single-Payer Healthcare Medicare For All Plan On MSNBC Hayes

02:03
Bernie Sanders OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES Single-Payer Healthcare Medicare For All Plan On MSNBC Hayes READ MY ARTICLE: http://thejusticetimes.com/bernie-sanders-to-announce-single-payer-healthcare-medicare-for-all-legislation Senator Bernie Sanders appeared on MSNBC with Chris Hayes to speak about the recent “American Health Care Act” that was originally proposed by the Republicans to “repeal and replace”, however the vote never took place. The House Republicans were very divided on this bill because many Republicans felt that it was simply a watered down version of Obamacare, which some called “Obamacare-lite” or “RINO-Care”. President Trump pressured the Republicans to pass the bill, threatening that if they failed to pass, he would simply move on to other issues and leave Obamacare in place. Speaker Paul Ryan was forced to tell President Trump that he simply could not garner enough votes, and as a result, they decided to simply not have a vote on the bill. Senator Sanders was speaking on how it was a ‘victory’ that the GOP healthcare bill did not pass because 24 million Americans would lose insurance. While Senator Sanders was very happy that the GOP healthcare bill did not pass, he made sure to make it clear that this is not a stable position. Senator Sanders explained that they need to move in the direction of a single-payer healthcare plan. “Somehow or another they manage to provide healthcare to every man, woman, and child in their country at about half the cost that we do”. He continued, “Somehow the cost of prescription drugs in Canada is a fraction of what it is in the United States.” After explaining that the Canadians are able to have healthcare for all of their citizens, they also have an extremely lower cost for their healthcare than citizens of the United States of America do, he went on to explain how it is possible to bring in a single-payer, medicare for all system to the United States. “.. and move forward toward a medicare for all, single-payer program, and I’ll be introducing legislation shortly to do that.” As many had dubbed this Republican healthcare plan “Trumpcare” or “Ryancare” many are now dubbing this single-payer, medicare for all plan as “Berniecare”. Many Americans who voted for Bernie Sanders are extremely excited that he will be proposing this legislation because they believe that healthcare should be treated as a right, not a privilege. Establishment Democrats Go After Medicare For All

13:34
JOIN THE HOME OF PROGRESSIVES: https://go.tyt.com/Nn_QnSkXgfo Democrats are going to do everything they can to stop Medicare For All. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Read more here: https://www.politico.com/story/2018/12/10/establishment-democrats-progressive-medicare-1052215 "Deep-pocketed hospital, insurance and other lobbies are plotting to crush progressives’ hopes of expanding the government's role in health care once they take control of the House. The private-sector interests, backed in some cases by key Obama administration and Hillary Clinton campaign alumni, are now focused on beating back another prospective health care overhaul, including plans that would allow people under 65 to buy into Medicare. This sets up a potentially brutal battle between establishment Democrats who want to preserve Obamacare and a new wave of progressive House Democrats who ran on single-payer health care. 'We know the insurance companies and the pharma companies are all putting tens of millions of dollars into trying to defeat us," said Rep. Republicans Backpedaling On Congressional Healthcare Exemption

07:29
Republicans shielding themselves from the disastrous healthcare plan they're about to unleash upon America isn’t going over so well. Brett Erlich, Ana Kasparian, and Michael Shure, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://tytnetwork.com/go "Republican leadership has moved to cut controversial language from its healthcare bill that would exempt Congress and their staff from changes to ObamaCare. An amendment to the House GOP's ObamaCare repeal-and-replace bill would have allowed states to seek waivers for certain ObamaCare regulations, but lawmakers and their staff would be exempt from the changes. A new bill authored by Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) would remove the exemption. GOP staff and lawmakers said the exemption was originally added to comply with Senate rules but acknowledged that it was politically problematic. "That'll be fixed. That was written in to comply with some Senate rules to make sure it's just a budget vote," said Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.), who authored the amendment.”* Read more here: http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/330845-gop-moves-to-kill-language-exempting-congress-from-obamacare-repeal-bill Hosts: Brett Erlich, Ana Kasparian, Michael ShureCast: Brett Erlich, Ana Kasparian, Michael Shure *** The Largest Online News Show in the World.
