BPH & Prostate Cancer Treatment

03:03
BPH and/or prostate cancer are common in older men. BPH & prostate cancer are alarmingly present in senior men. Benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) is found in 80% of men over 70. Prostate cancer is shockingly present in as many as 10% of men age 20 and it greatly increases with age. The good news is BPH and prostate cancer treatment is effective and even reversible by diet and lifestyle. Mainstream medicine wants to treat prostate cancer with radiation, chemo, or surgery; however, the death rate with this treatment is no better than diet and lifestyle changes. The harmful side effects are worse with mainstream treatment. BPH, benign prostate hypertrophy, benign prostatic hypertrophy, and benign prostatic hyperplasia all mean a swollen prostate that is not prostate cancer. Prostate cancer grows slowly and most die with it present, but not because of it. Keywords found in prostate book: BPH, benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostate cancer treatment, benign prostatic hyperplasia, benign prostate hypertrophy, psa levels, enlarged prostate, what is bph

5 Common Signs of Prostate Cancer

03:55
5 Common Signs of Prostate Cancer Prostate cancer is a silent killer. Unlike many other cancers where symptoms occur early on, making the disease easier to detect, with prostate cancer there are no early warning signs. Only once a tumor causes the prostate gland to swell, or the cancer spreads beyond the prostate, will there be signs that the disease may be present. While regular screenings are essential for the identification and treatment of prostate cancer, if it goes undetected, the following are among the most common signs of the disease. 1. Urination Issues Experiencing troubles while urinating is among the most common indicators of prostate cancer. According to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, these difficulties can include: -Burning or pain during urination -Difficulty urinating, or trouble starting and stopping while urinating -More frequent urges to urinate at night -Loss of bladder control -Decreased flow or velocity of urinee stream -Blood in urinee (hematuria) While these issues may indicate a prostate concern, they are not symptoms of the cancer. They occur as a result of the tumor in the prostate pressing on the bladder. 2. Swelling, Numbness or Pain in the Bones or Tissues It’s possible for the cancer to spread beyond the prostate and into the bones, which can cause pain and/or stiffness in the bones in areas such as the hips, back or chest. Prostate cancer can also spread to the nearby tissues and, more seriously, the lymphatic system. This can lead to symptoms such as swelling in the legs or pelvic area, as well as weakness or numbness in the legs or feet. 3. Constipation or Loss of bowell Control As mentioned previously, someone with prostate cancer may experience weakness or numbness in the legs or feet. This is caused by the cancer having spread to the tissues of the spine and pressing on the nerves. In addition to this weakness or paralysis of the lower limbs, a person may also experience digestive issues. This can either present itself as constipation, or a loss of bowell control. 4. Shortness of Breath It’s possible for someone with prostate cancer, typically in an advanced stage, to develop a conditional called anemia. Anemia is characterized as a drop in red blood cells, which results in there not being sufficient oxygen in the blood to meet the body’s needs. According to Prostate Cancer UK, symptoms of anemia can include “feeling tired or weak, being out of breath and looking pale.” Shortness of breath isn’t always due to anemia, however. It may also occur, along with chest pain, if the cancer spreads into a person’s lungs. 5. Loss of Weight, Fatigue and High Blood Pressure Although these symptoms are far more rare, it’s possible for prostate cancer to cause something called paraneoplastic syndrome. This is a group of symptoms that includes high blood pressure, fatigue and weight loss, as well as muscle cramps, illness and changes in the blood. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, paraneoplastic syndrome occurs “when substances released by cancer cells disrupt the normal function of nearby or distant organs or tissues.” Help us to be better Like, Comment, Subscribe and invite all your friends to see our videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUOF1_1_fY50PVN0TtItbDQ?sub_confirmation=1 More from Stay Healthy: 1. Those mutation 'hotspots' occur among families of proteins produced by genes in the body's cells. By sifting through data from nearly 6,000 cancer patients, researchers at the University of Maryland say they found thousands of mutations that occur among those proteins." Bad luck plays larger role than environmental, genetic factors in determining who gets cancer http://hub.jhu.edu/2015/01/01/bad-luck-cancer-mutations/ "Two-thirds of adult cancer incidence across tissues can be explained not by environmental factors or inherited genes but by bad luck, according to scientists from the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. The unlucky findings by Johns Hopkins scientists were discovered using a statistical model that measures the proportion of cancer incidence across many tissue types. They found that more often than not, cancer in adults is caused by random mutations that occur when stem cells divide." DNA typos to blame for most cancer mutations http://www.nature.com/news/dna-typos-to-blame-for-most-cancer-mutations-1.21696?WT.mc_id=FBK_NatureNews "Each time a cell divides, it provides an opportunity for errors to crop up during DNA replication. In 2015, Vogelstein and one of his co-authors, mathematician Cristian Tomasetti of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, created a stir with an analysis that looked at possible explanations for why some cancers occur more often than others. They concluded that differences in the number of stem-cell divisions in an organ correlated with the frequency of cancers in that area." ____________________ Seeker inspires us to see the world through the lens of science and evokes a sense of curiosity, optimism and adventure. Michael Milken - "Changing the Face of Prostate Cancer"

05:46
Michael Milken is the Founder and Chairman of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, the largest Prostate Cancer research Foundation in the World and they're committed to curing Prostate Cancer. Follow our blog at http://LifeInsuranceProstateCancer.com To discuss your specific Life Insurance needs for men with prostate cancer or request a life insurance quote if you have cancer such as prostate cancer, call us at - 844-LIFE-844 Make sure to follow us at - Google+ - https://google.com/+Lifeinsuranceprostatecancer Facebook - https://facebook.com/LifeInsuranceProstateCancer Twitter - https://twitter.com/LifeInsureCaP This video is the property of The Bridgespan Group TRANSCRIPT When they tell you have 12 to 18 months to live. It's definitely a wake up call. For me in '93 I have lost 10 of my relatives to cancer and my prognosis was worse than any of them. So, I had to figure out what was I going to do different? What could I do? I've been funding cancer research for 20 years and knew nothing about prostate cancer. So the goal was you have to change a paradigm. By visiting cancer centers the first thing that I discovered was that it was considered suicide to work in the field of prostate cancer. So the first commitment was we committed $25 Million. Jonathan Simons who today in 2012 is the CEO of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, was that young scientist I met back at Hopkins in 1993. Brilliant, young, physician scientist whom they told, if he wants to go work in prostate cancer research that's career suicide. Luckily I met him with Bill Nelson who today runs the cancer center at John Hopkins and told them they picked the right field. Not only was it not career suicide but it's going to be the best funded research that he's ever seen. So first, you've got to jump start it. Second, I was visiting MD Anderson and I noticed there was no one from Memorial Sloan Kettering at MD Anderson. One of the scientist told me they're a competitor. They're a competitor for patients. I told them there are no competitors. As a patient or philanthropist we want teamwork. There is not a competition here. And so we launched these fast track awards. I went over to the National Institute of Health and the National Cancer Institute and I saw a submission of nine feet for an award. They had been working on it 18 months. They would find out whether they got approval or not in 18 months. Whatever it was 3 years later it wasn't even relevant anymore at the speed science was moving. So we decided we're going to announce a program that you can submit nine feet, but we only promise to read the first 5 pages. In addition to that, we will let you know whether you're going to be funded in 6 months and we will fund you within 90 days. So the waiting period was over. Third. Most scientist were spending half their time or two-thirds of their time trying to raise money. Therefore, we'll go help raise money for you. We can increase your productivity by 100% or by 300% by letting us take responsibility or raising money for your programs and you taking responsibility for focusing full-time on your program. Now many people said you know our work is so important that we can't share. Were going to have an article in Nature coming out in 12 months and I understand your work is so important. Our funding is only for those that work is not as important as yours. Ok. The people we fund have to share. They have to share with others. We can't wait 12 months. And so, because your work is so important you'll have no trouble getting whatever funding you'll need for your program; we're going to give our money to those that share. Within 6 months, every single person that told us they could not share, shared! Fourth. Go public. I looked at a program in Hopkins, they spent 12 years identifying families with more than 2 people in a family had had prostate cancer. Going to individuals, doctors and scientist looking for referrals. In 1995 we decided to put on a cancer summit. And we went on CNN. I called Larry King and said Larry, we want to do a show on cancer. He said, Mike, are you crazy? People get depressed by a show about cancer. I told Larry, Larry do you know 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women get cancer? He says this is ratings sweeps I need high ratings. I said okay, Larry, I'm going to call Ted. I called Ted and said, Ted this show will be successful. So low and behold they agreed to do a show. Three thousand people where more than 2 people in a family had prostate cancer watched and called in within the next 30 days. We accomplished more in collecting families in 30 days than had been achieved in 12 years. Today, crowdsourcing and other things can help you find those individuals. This created a movement to be part of a team. And, coupled with young investigators changed the face of prostate cancer not only in the United States but throughout the World.

DBacks CEO Derrick Hall Talks About the Importance of Prostate Cancer Awareness

02:52
Arizona Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall talks about how important is is to him to spread prostate cancer awareness, after being diagnosed at age 42. Derrick thinks it’s important for individuals to be as forthcoming in open and honest as possible if they are comfortable doing so. Known throughout the game of baseball for his never-ending positivity and pioneering spirit, D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall turned the franchise into a model organization focused on a fan experience and corporate culture that was second-to-none, paired with the goal of competing for a championship on the field each year and giving back to the community in a meaningful way. But Hall faced his biggest challenge in September, 2011 when he learned that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer at the young age of 42. Determined to face this challenge in the same fashion that led to him becoming one of Major League Baseball’s top executives, Hall immediately penned a note to his staff letting them know of his diagnosis. “Why would I share with you all so openly?” read the message, which was sent before even alerting his children. “Because I share everything with you, my family. And you will help me and my beautiful immediate family get through this. I will win! Bipolar Androgen Therapy (BAT)- Sam Denmeade MD, Prostate cancer treatment with testosterone bursts

56:04
This video is about a treatment for men who already have prostate cancer. It is about adding an occasional testosterone boost to regular drug therapy to treat prostate cancer. Dr Sam Denmeade reports on encouraging trials of this approach. The small numbers in these trials mean your doctor will not be recommending this to you as a part standard treatment, as yet, except possibly in a clinical trial. When this video was made in February 2017, clinical trial openings were limited to the USA. But, if you wish to understand a treatment which could become a game-changer in future, this is for you. This video is part of an Answer Cancer Foundation support group meeting. The full session started with an introduction by to the foundation by it's leader, Rick Davis, and an introduction to Dr Denmeade by member Professor Bill Burnham, a prostate cancer researcher. There will be a link to the full session at the end of this video, which also includes a full hour of questions and answers. Thanks to Rick Davis of the Answer Cancer Foundation for allowing us to post this video. Access the whole presentation, including introductions, questions and answers, at: https://www.ancan.org/bat-presentation The questions and answers begin at about 1hour 4minutes.

The 2015 BCF Scholarship for Young Civic Leaders has been awarded to Chikaodi Nwanegwo, a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, who will be attending Morgan State University with the help of the $12,000 award. Nwanegwo is from Baltimore but has lived in Nigeria. During her career at Poly, she was involved in the Medical Education Resources Initiative for Teens (MERIT), which aims to eliminate health care disparities by transforming under-represented high school students into health care leaders. During a visit to a Nigerian hospital she found that many health issues facing Nigerians were similar to those facing low-income Baltimoreans, including high rates of sexually transmitted infections and teen pregnancy. As a project in MERIT, she started the Care Using Responsive Education (CURE) Project, which aims to educate Baltimoreans about the affects of preventable diseases and other health-related issues.

BSN Headline News for September 10, 2012

07:42
Today's top story is September 13th is World Sepsis Day and Bon Secours wants to commemorate to raise awareness of this deadly infection. What is Sepsis? Simply put, sepsis is a potentially deadly medical condition characterized by a whole-body inflammatory state triggered by an infection. Did you know that every few seconds, someone dies of sepsis? Sepsis is one of the most common deadly diseases, yet it is one of the least well-known. Sepsis kills more people than AIDS, breast cancer, and prostate cancer combined. No wonder Bon Secours wants to raise awareness. In fact, in 2010 Bon Secours developed a Nurse Sepsis Expert Credentialing Program in order to drastically reduce the incidence of sepsis in our hospitals. The program provides a standardized curriculum for hospital nurses to become proficient in the prevention and treatment of sepsis. It has been show that when hospital nurses educated in sepsis prevention and treatment lead a team of co-workers, sepsis is likely to occur less frequently, to be less severe and to be less often fatal. Sepsis is a medical emergency. Treating sepsis within the first 60 minutes of its onset...the Golden Hour...is crucial to the patient's survival. If diagnosed and treated within the Golden Hour, the patient has a greater than 80% survival rate. After just 6 hours, the survival rate drops to 30% You can find out more about Sepsis online on IRIS. To find out more about the Bon Secours Sepsis Credentialing Program, contact the Institute for Nursing Practice at 410-442-3542. In other news, Bon Secours Health System has started it celebration of our 30 year anniversary. On July 1, 2013, Bon Secours Health System celebrates 30-years of providing good help. And although the Sisters of Bon Secours arrived in Baltimore in 1881 to start their ministry of health care in the United States, it wasn't until the 1970s that the idea of forming a health system took root. In 1978, the Sisters formed the Bon Secours Health Care Corporation to promote the mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Bon Secours throughout each of the facilities sponsored by the Sisters. At that time, the Sisters fostered seven sponsorships • Bon Secours Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland (sponsored from 1919 to present) • Bon Secours Hospital, Grosse Pointe, Michigan (sponsored from 1945 to 2008) • Bon Secours Hospital, Methuen, Massachusetts (sponsored from 1950 to 1988) • St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond, Virginia (sponsored from 1966 to present) • St. Edmond's Home for Crippled Children, Rosemont, Pennsylvania, (sponsored from 1916 to 1984) • St. Francis Country House for Convalescents, Darby, Pennsylvania, (sponsored from 1920 to 1992); and, • Villa Maria Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, North Miami, Florida (sponsored from 1959 to 1995). In 1983 the Bon Secours Health Care Corporation reorganized and took on the current name of Bon Secours Health System, Inc. Now, I will tell you if you did not know, the Center for Ministry Leadership is providing a monthly newsletter through July 2013 called BSHSI at 30. Look for your copy soon or contact your Mission department. BSHSI at 30...faithfully responding to God's gifts through healing, compassion and liberation. The college likes to say, "Online, but not alone."
