5 Common Signs of Prostate Cancer

03:55
5 Common Signs of Prostate Cancer Prostate cancer is a silent killer. Unlike many other cancers where symptoms occur early on, making the disease easier to detect, with prostate cancer there are no early warning signs. Only once a tumor causes the prostate gland to swell, or the cancer spreads beyond the prostate, will there be signs that the disease may be present. While regular screenings are essential for the identification and treatment of prostate cancer, if it goes undetected, the following are among the most common signs of the disease. 1. Urination Issues Experiencing troubles while urinating is among the most common indicators of prostate cancer. According to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, these difficulties can include: -Burning or pain during urination -Difficulty urinating, or trouble starting and stopping while urinating -More frequent urges to urinate at night -Loss of bladder control -Decreased flow or velocity of urinee stream -Blood in urinee (hematuria) While these issues may indicate a prostate concern, they are not symptoms of the cancer. They occur as a result of the tumor in the prostate pressing on the bladder. 2. Swelling, Numbness or Pain in the Bones or Tissues It’s possible for the cancer to spread beyond the prostate and into the bones, which can cause pain and/or stiffness in the bones in areas such as the hips, back or chest. Prostate cancer can also spread to the nearby tissues and, more seriously, the lymphatic system. This can lead to symptoms such as swelling in the legs or pelvic area, as well as weakness or numbness in the legs or feet. 3. Constipation or Loss of bowell Control As mentioned previously, someone with prostate cancer may experience weakness or numbness in the legs or feet. This is caused by the cancer having spread to the tissues of the spine and pressing on the nerves. In addition to this weakness or paralysis of the lower limbs, a person may also experience digestive issues. This can either present itself as constipation, or a loss of bowell control. 4. Shortness of Breath It’s possible for someone with prostate cancer, typically in an advanced stage, to develop a conditional called anemia. Anemia is characterized as a drop in red blood cells, which results in there not being sufficient oxygen in the blood to meet the body’s needs. According to Prostate Cancer UK, symptoms of anemia can include “feeling tired or weak, being out of breath and looking pale.” Shortness of breath isn’t always due to anemia, however. It may also occur, along with chest pain, if the cancer spreads into a person’s lungs. 5. Loss of Weight, Fatigue and High Blood Pressure Although these symptoms are far more rare, it’s possible for prostate cancer to cause something called paraneoplastic syndrome. This is a group of symptoms that includes high blood pressure, fatigue and weight loss, as well as muscle cramps, illness and changes in the blood. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, paraneoplastic syndrome occurs “when substances released by cancer cells disrupt the normal function of nearby or distant organs or tissues.” Help us to be better Like, Comment, Subscribe and invite all your friends to see our videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUOF1_1_fY50PVN0TtItbDQ?sub_confirmation=1 More from Stay Healthy: 1. One might think authorities have gotten better at solving murders over the years – what with new technology and methods like DNA testing -- but solve rates were actually better 50 years ago. Today one-third of murder cases in America remain open; experts say more than 200,000 murders have gone unsolved since the 1960s. One former news reporter found those stats unacceptable…so he built an algorithm that he says can identify serial killer activity…even before police can. » Subscribe to NBC News: http://nbcnews.to/SubscribeToNBC » Watch more NBC video: http://bit.ly/MoreNBCNews NBC News is a leading source of global news and information. Prostate Cancer Patients Not So Open-Minded Regarding Treatment Options

00:52
New research suggests second opinions have little impact on prostate cancer patients' treatment decisions. According to UPI, the study included nearly 2,400 men in the Philadelphia area recently diagnosed with localized prostate cancer. Forty percent of the men obtained a second opinion from urologists, most often because they wanted more information about their cancer or wanted to be seen by the best doctor. According to study authors Dr. Archana Radha-Krishnan of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and her colleagues, this suggests that for some men, second opinions offer a way to pursue the treatment they already planned on, rather than to explore other treatment options. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2016/11/07/Prostate-cancer-patients-unmoved-by-second-opinions/7681478554044/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Oxidative Stress Resistance in Metastatic Prostate Cancer: Renewal by Self-Eating

03:45
Oxidative Stress Resistance in Metastatic Prostate Cancer: Renewal by Self-Eating. Jan Balvan et al (2015), PLoS ONE http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0145016 Resistant cancer phenotype is a key obstacle in the successful therapy of prostate cancer. The primary aim of our study was to explore resistance mechanisms in the advanced type of prostate cancer cells (PC-3) and to clarify the role of autophagy in these processes. We performed time-lapse experiment (48 hours) with ROS generating plumbagin by using multimodal holographic microscope. Furthermore, we also performed the flow-cytometric analysis and the qRT-PCR gene expression analysis at 12 selected time points. TEM and confocal microscopy were used to verify the results. We found out that autophagy (namely mitophagy) is an important resistance mechanism. The major ROS producing mitochondria were coated by an autophagic membrane derived from endoplasmic reticulum and degraded. According to our results, increasing ROS resistance may be also accompanied by increased average cell size and polyploidization, which seems to be key resistance mechanism when connected with an escape from senescence. Many different types of cell-cell interactions were recorded including entosis, vesicular transfer, eating of dead or dying cells, and engulfment and cannibalism of living cells. Entosis was disclosed as a possible mechanism of polyploidization and enabled the long-term survival of cancer cells. Significantly reduced cell motility was found after the plumbagin treatment. We also found an extensive induction of pluripotency genes expression (NANOG, SOX2, and POU5F1) at the time-point of 20 hours. We suppose, that overexpression of pluripotency genes in the portion of prostate tumour cell population exposed to ROS leads to higher developmental plasticity and capability to faster respond to changes in the extracellular environment that could ultimately lead to an alteration of cell fate.

First Patient in Maryland to Receive Liver Transplant for Treatment of a Lethal Bile Duct Cancer

01:44
Transplant surgeons at the University of Maryland Liver Center have performed a liver transplant on a patient with hilar cholangiocarcinoma -- a rare, often-lethal bile duct cancer. This marks the first time a patient with this type of cancer has been treated with this protocol in the state of Maryland. Out of 138 hospitals that perform liver transplants across the country, only 50, including the University of Maryland Medical Center, are approved to perform a liver transplant for this indication. Nathaniel Brunson, a 49-year-old Baltimore man, also received chemotherapy and radiation before the surgery as part of the treatment protocol designed to prevent the cancer from spreading into lymph nodes and nearby organs. The multidisciplinary treatment plan was devised and executed by medical and surgical experts across numerous specialties within the University of Maryland Liver Center, including hematology oncology, radiation oncology, hepatology, and liver transplant surgery. 28:37
http://www.ibiology.org/ibioseminars/cancer-medicine/j-michael-bishop-part-1.html Bishop begins his lecture with a historical review of the experiments that resulted in the realization that cancer has a genetic basis. He explains that mutations can cause normal cellular genes known as proto-oncogenes to become oncogenes, analogous to jammed accelerators causing uncontrolled cell division. Alternatively, mutations in tumor suppressor genes are analogous to a failed brake system. An accumulation of both types of mutation leads to the development of cancer.

ACTOS BLADDER CANCER TRIAL 888-210-9693

www.shezadmalik.com California Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuit | Texas Actos Bladder Cancer Lawyer | Florida Actos Bladder Cancer Law Firm Actos Bladder Cancer Side Effects Lawsuits The first federal trial involving Actos and the risk of bladder cancer has just ended. Verdict is expected soon. Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly manufactured the drug. The Actos lawsuit complaints claim that prior to the drug's introduction to the market in 1999, Takeda possessed studies on laboratory animals showing an increased risk of bladder cancer when the animals were provided the drug. Takeda allegedly failed to disclose these laboratory test results to health regulators. In 2005, the results of another study Takeda conducted on Actos were published. This study found 14 bladder cancers among patients in the Actos group, compared to 5 bladder cancers in the group that did not take Actos. Takeda again denied that Actos was to blame for the higher rate of cancer. What do African Americans Need to Know About Colon Cancer?

01:02
Statistically speaking, African-Americans develop colon cancer at a younger age than other colon cancer patients and are at a 20% higher risk for developing colon cancer. For that reason, the recommended screening age for African-Americans is 45, five years earlier than the general population. Colonoscopy is the most effective tool in diagnosing and preventing colon cancer, but only 63% of African-Americans are being screened.
