Making a compressed air cannon

04:24
Drone Catcher attachment! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2nW6FhxmvE&t=40s Making a compressed air cannon. This is largely based off the pneumatic golf ball launcher design https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXdoNvmrYxo&t=90s There's essentially three main parts to the cannon. The air chamber, the release valve and the barrel. I tried to use screw fittings wherever possible. This is so I can fix/replace any part that might break. I can also re-use each part on other projects. The chamber - I used 100mm Class12 (Schedule 40) PVC pipe. This costs quite a bit, but I've seen enough fail video's from people not using it, to know it's worth every cent. It's rated for a working pressure of 130 PSI and has a much higher burst pressure, although I don't intend to ever really push it past 100 PSI. Especially since 90 PSI is enough to punch a ping pong ball through an aluminium can. I used a bike valve to pump the air in. This has worked pretty well so far, pumping from both a hand pump and an air compressor. The release valve is a modified sprinkler valve. This seems to be the most common sort of release valve and was based off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGlDfmls3MA. My version - https://youtu.be/JC5iCoeSDfM Sprinkler valve - http://amzn.to/2GBsURo Blow gun - http://amzn.to/2DOlIzD The barrel - I'm not as concerned about using pressure pipe or pressure rated cement for this, as I figure it's never going to be under the same sort of pressure as the air chamber. Although I still will use it wherever I can. Again, I've used screw fittings so I can swap the barrels out whenever I want. I'm still learning, so if you have any comments or feedback for me, I would love to hear it. I try and do a project every few weeks, so feel free to Subscribe if you'd like to see what I come up with next.

Pneumatic Golf Ball Launcher

05:35
After we broke our potato gun that we have had for nearly 8 years, we decided to build a pneumatic golf ball/tennis ball launcher. The tricky part was finding all the pieces. 4" pressure rated PVC pipe and fittings are not available at Lowes or Home Depot so we had to look elsewhere. The golf ball barrel is 1-1/2" SDR-21 sleeved inside of 2" Schedule 80 PVC. The tennis ball (beer can) barrel is 2.5" SDR-21. The pressure chamber is 4" Schedule 80 NSF-PW Rated at 200 psi. The trigger is a Rainbird 100-DV sprinkler valve with the top cap tapped out to 1/4" NPT and fitted with a blower valve as a trigger. Filling the pressure chamber to only 40 to 60 psi will launch a golf ball several hundred yards with ease. We loaded up on the golf cart and hit the lake and the driving range to test it out. We took care the prime all of the parts before solvent welding the PVC and we allowed 24 hours curing time before we tested it. The barrel's use 1-1/2" Schedule 40 threaded connections so we can change barrels easily.

How to Make a Ball Valve Air Cannon (Under $30)

The tutorial shown in this video is about the PVC cannon video uploaded a while ago. So many people wanted me to make a tutorial, that I decided this would be the first. Here it is. This was the first video that took longer than 1 hour to edit and upload to Youtube. In fact, it took more than 8 hours total over a period of days. The first day involved getting the shots like the stop motion and videos, the second involved making the first half of the video, and the third day was basically cramming to finish it on the deadline. I hope you Youtubers enjoy this video. If you are having trouble getting the parts down, please comment on my blog or send me a message. The script is posted on the blog if it is needed. I only accept requests from subscribers, so if you have an idea, please subscribe. I want to hear your ideas!

Compressed Air Tennis Ball Cannon

02:40
For our engineering term project this semester, we built and tested a tennis ball air cannon. It could shoot about 130 feet and we reached speeds of up to 60 mph (97 km/h). The design was made so we could fire it at different angles and the frame was collapsible for easy travel. Just for fun we decided to give our cannon a name (Ricochet) and we went with a Stark Industries/Iron Man theme. It was a pretty awesome project!

How to Build a Pneumatic/Air Powered Potato Cannon

07:06
This video provides a step by step description on how to build a potato cannon along with the tools and materials required. Materials Required: -A saw -2' of 2" Diameter Schedule 40 PVC Pipe -2' of 3" Diameter Schedule 40 PVC Pipe -PVC Primer and Cement -A Ruler -A Sharpie -3/4" Threaded Ball Valve -2ct. 3/4" Iron or Steel Nipples (At least 2" long) -2ct. 3" Diameter Schedule 40 PVC End Caps -A File -Teflon Tape -Locking Pliers (Often Called a Wrench) -2ct. 2" to 1.5" Reducing Bushing/Adapter -2ct. 1.5" to 3/4" Threaded Reducing Bushing -A Bike Pump Valve (I got one off an old bike inner tube) Disclaimer: I cannot be responsible for any injuries or damage caused by the potato cannon that you create. Plastic under pressure can be dangerous. That is why only Schedule 40 PVC should be used because it is meant to handle the amount of pressure being applied. Do not apply more pressure than the PVC's max pressure and to be safe no more than half of that recommended pressure should be applied. For extra safety the air reservoir can be wrapped in three layers of duct tape to minimize shrapnel that can be launched should the reservoir explode. This cannon can be modified to fit the builders needs, so it is possible to used different sized pieces to create different ways of launching projectiles.

This is my first part of my tennis ball machine videos. Since my son plays tennis I thought - he must have a tennis ball machine :) Ball feed mechanism done, software almost done. Server motor part to be done. Probably I will buy server wheel and motor as a spare part from an commercial machine. My machine will oscillate vertical and horizontal and can via software play random programs.

Building a Propane Torch Potato Cannon

16:19
Using some standard supplies from a hardware store, I converted DWV pipes and a propane torch into a potato cannon / golf ball gun / tennis ball cannon / red solo cup launcher. I found similar schematics from the back yard scientist, but my local hardware stores (Lowes and Home Depot) didn’t carry 3 inch PVC, and the schematics didn’t tell me how to cut the combustion chamber, so I made my own out of the materials available to me. PVC is better so if you have PVC available use that instead. I used DWV because PVC wasn’t available. Everything you’ll need to make this happen: 4’’ DWV (8 inches) - sold in 24 inch tubes at Lowes, I had to cut this manually. 2’’ DWV (24 inches) 4’’ to 2’’ DWV reducer x2 2’’ to 1.5’’ DWV bushing x1 1.5’’ to 0.5’’ PVC bushing x1 5/8 inner, 7/8 outer vinyl tubing (only need one or two feet, longer if you want to stand behind something while firing) 1x trigger activated propane torch (with a big nozzle / head) 1x PVC cement or epoxy or gorilla glue or something 1x roll of duct tape / gorilla tape 1x red solo cup (projectile) 1x something to put over the cannon’s barrel as you ‘prime’ it so the propane doesn’t escape. I used a small gatorade bottle. You really don't even need this unless you want to dry fire it, the red solo cup itself should be good enough. Grab the tubing first, and make sure it fits snugly into the smallest bushing, and make sure you’re able to “build” the cannon before you buy anything. I had a difficult time finding parts that fit together correctly but eventually figured it out. Note: If you shoot flour out of the barrel, don’t shoot it at people (in fact, don’t aim this at anything you don’t want to break). The flour will aerosolize and become a giant flamethrower, because the propane potato cannon also shoots out a jet of fire along with the projectile, and will ignite it. Wear gloves and eye protection. Also, subscribe! And tweet me some pictures of your builds if you do them! http://twitter.com/tgcallaway My camera gear for this video: Camera: Canon 6d - http://amzn.to/2aRVD6a Lens: 17-40mm F4 L - http://amzn.to/2hXc4kl

Made this from scratch no plans. Safe to use, fires 68mm Dunlop high grade tennis balls using gas (not cheapo dog toy balls, our Springer Spaniel chews them to bits & they don't fire that good). I can't sell it guys sorry, I have had many E-mails you have to be a competent person (LOL..Me ha ha) & trained to use this type of launcher safely. I have had years of hands on experience in pyrotechnics/chemistry/ballistics/materials stress testing etc before making anything that goes off with a bang ;-) My launcher is perfectly LEGAL I just have to inform police control when/where/how long/what i am wearing before I take it out with our Dog If a member of the public doesn't know me or sees what I'm holding to them I'm just a guy with a very big weapon lol, so they can have their mind put to rest by just phoning the police inquiries.

500 Yard Golf Ball Launcher / Cannon

05:26
This launcher took about 3 days to build including the machined inserts and modifying the valves. I fired 6 initial test shots and I was able to locate 4 of them. Using a GPS my shortest ball was 492 yards and the furthest was 525 yards. I don't think that ball roll at the end made a very big impact on distance. I have about $300 into it but as I stated in the video if you use schedule 40 PVC you are begging to be a Darwin Award recipient.

How to Make a Powerful Coaxial Piston Cannon from Hardware Store Parts

08:38
This video shows how I make a compact 2" bore air cannon with a coaxial piston valve. To understand how these valves work examine the third animation in the following link: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/piston-valves-explained-visually-t8157.html I also go into more detail of how these cannons function in a video I made many years ago, showing how to build a smaller version using these same principles: http://youtu.be/9oARDyn4WwE Warning: It is specifically against manufacturer recommendations to use PVC to contain pressurized air. This video is solely for education and entertainment purposes. The parts used in this cannon are as follows: (1) 3' length of 3" diameter pressure rated PVC pipe (1) 3'2" length of 2" diameter pressure rated PVC pipe (1) 1/2" PVC ball valve (the cannon may benefit from a larger valve, so consider 3/4" or 1" valves and adjust the fittings on the back of the cannon to match) (1) 1/2" x 2" long threaded PVC pipe nipple (1) 1 1/2" to 1/2" threaded PVC reducer (1) 3" to 1 1/2" PVC reducer (1) 3" PVC coupling (1) 3" female threaded adapter (1) 3" male threaded adapter (1) 3" to 2" PVC flush bushing (4) 1" long self tapping screws (1) brass air compressor tank valve (2) 3" galvanized steel gas vent tee caps (I have not tried it myself, but a hockey puck may also work as a replacement piston according to others) (1) 3" rubber washer or sheet rubber (1) 3" tank to bowl rubber gasket Other supplies and tools needed: PVC Primer & Cement Epoxy Super Glue TFE Pipe Thread Paste Coarse and fine Sandpaper Bench Grinder or Metal Files Drill & Bits Bicycle Pump or Air Compressor Thanks for watching! #NightHawkInLight -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Check out my latest video: "How To View Invisible Air Currents With Lasers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K94Cc21KEIA -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

My first try at building a pneumatic antenna launcher. It is for shooting 2-inch tennis balls with fishing line attached up over tall tree so that antenna wires can be attached to the fishing lines and then be pulled back over the trees. Now that it has passed the pressure tests I will put the barrel on it and retest it.

How to Make an Alcohol Mortar Launcher

05:05
In this video I build an upgraded mortar style housing for my Soda Bottle Rocket Launchers! The original project can be seen here: http://youtu.be/wuz0curb_hg Check out my sponsor Audible through the following link to claim a free audio book: http://www.audible.com/nhil v v v v v v v Click 'Show more' v v v v v v v The design I build in this video was primarily pieced together from spare parts lying around in my garage from past projects. Some PVC from an old potato cannon, a metal strip used to support my aluminum crucible in an earlier video, foam pool noodles from my Nerf style artillery project...A lot of parts were used out of pure convenience. The purpose of this video was less to provide an exact guide for this specific modification of my bottle rocket project, and more to demonstrate how many options for customization such a design can have. The only limit is your imagination. For those curious, here is a list of all the parts I used: 3" x 36" PVC Pipe 3" PVC Couplings (x2) 1" x 1/8" x 36" Mild Steel Strip 1 1/2" x 1/4" Bolts (x2) 1/4" Washers (x6) 1/4" Locking Washers (x2) 1/4" Nuts (x2) 3" x 8" Foam Pool Noodle (Foam pipe insulation may be a workable replacement) 1/2" x 24" PVC Pipe Replacement Barbecue Igniter Spare Wire Paper Hot Glue Soda Bottles Duct Tape Details from my previous video about how these rockets work and tips for fueling (watch the video to learn the entire fueling process: http://youtu.be/wuz0curb_hg The rockets are fueled by the combustion of rubbing alcohol, which is ignited by the spark from a barbecue igniter. I used rubbing alcohol with a concentration of about 90% in the video, but any concentration of 70% or greater should work just as well. When fueling the bottles, the most important step as shown in the video is to whip the last drops of liquid alcohol out of the open end. This brings the fuel/air mixture to the proper level for a good combustion, and reduces the liquid alcohol particles expelled from the rocket upon launch that otherwise could melt the plastic blast shield or cause minor burns. Be sure to wear both eye and ear protection whenever doing experiments involving any sort of rocketry. #NightHawkInLight -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Check out my latest video: "How To View Invisible Air Currents With Lasers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K94Cc21KEIA -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

How to Make a PVC Catapult

08:28
Support Will: http://www.stormthecastle.com/support.htm In this tutorial I show you how to make a rubber band powered catapult out of PVC plastic pipe. It is a small desktop sized catapult and easy to make. PVC is plastic pipe that is readily available at all hardware stores and it is very inexpensive. Same thing with all the fittings and elbows you see in the catapult. You can get them right off the shelf and they are very cheap. Just about the only thing you need to make this catapult is some kind of a saw to cut the plastic pipe. It is the perfect catapult project if you don't have any woodworking stuff. I give you a complete parts list so you can get all the parts and put the catapult together quickly and easily. The tutorial and template for this catapult are on my website here: http://www.stormthecastle.com/catapult/how-to-make-a-pvc-catapult.htm About my Channel: I have hundreds of videos covering all kinds of creative projects. Tennis Ball Air Cannon

01:56
This air cannon I built is made from PVC and uses a 2" Hunter Sprinkler valve I modified. I currently run up to 100 PSI. Shoots 10 tennis balls at once about 60 - 70 yards out. Kids love it!
