Not cat asthma attack, actually cardiomyopathy! Take your cat to the vet IMMEDIATELY!

00:28
Turn up the volume loudly, and watch the chest heaving and the mouth carefully! Does this look like YOUR cat? I am sharing this in hopes someone will see it and can save their cat's life! Our cat had a spell like this once 2 weeks prior to this, and if we had known it wasn't an asthma attack we could have got him on Lasix and saved his life. Within 30 minutes of this video he had to be put down, it was too late. I took these videos to show the veterinarian the next days his symptoms.

Asthma drug used in Japan may help fight progressive Muscular Dystrophy

01:22
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - New research is showing promise in the fight against multiple sclerosis. A Japanese asthma drug may benefit those living with multiple sclerosis. That is according to a study that was just presented at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis in Paris, France. Researchers focused on people who have progressive multiple sclerosis, which is a degenerative form of the disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord. This new drug, taken as a pill, is often used in japan to treat asthma and may slow the damage progressive MS causes in the brain. Specialists at the Cleveland Clinic conducted the study. They found the drug called “Ibudilast” appears to help slowdown brain shrinking normally associated with this disease. It actually cut it nearly in half to rates much closer to those seen in people who are healthy. Researchers studied that in more than 250 people and compared it to a placebo. Both groups had MRI brain scans and were followed for two years. Results showed that the drug is safe and slows MS related brain shrinkage by 48 percent.

How To Treat A Cat With Asthma

06:54
Inflammation of the lungs due to inhaling allergens leads to the symptoms of asthma in cats. This inflammation occurs when a cat inhales an allergen (dust, pollen) that triggers the immune system, starting an allergic reaction that tightens the airways and leads to mucus buildup. Asthma symptoms can range from a mild cough or squeaky wheeze to a full-blown asthma attack, like in people. Although feline asthma has no cure, it can be effectively managed with various medications and avoidance strategies. Work with your veterinarian to create a treatment plan for your cat. Asthma Attack

01:15
An asthma attack is a sudden worsening of asthma symptoms caused by the tightening of muscles around your airways (bronchospasm). During the asthma attack, the lining of the airways also becomes swollen or inflamed and thicker mucus -- more than normal -- is produced. All of these factors -- bronchospasm, inflammation, and mucus production -- cause symptoms of an asthma attack such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and difficulty performing normal daily activities.

Feline Asthma or Bronchitis

01:50
This is a video of my cat coughing from chronic bronchitis, although I'm told his cough sounds more like feline asthma (the point in distinguishing the 2 is usually pointless, since they have the same symptoms, diagnostics, and treatments). Tiger is now on Prednisolone and is doing well.

Cat coughing. Not hairballs or asthma — it's lungworms! Gross, but curable.

01:16
This is a video of my cat coughing due to lungworms. We adopted her from a shelter at about 7 months old and don't really know what her history is before that — whether she was found outside or what. Keep reading (show more) for how the vet cured her... When she would cough like this I initially thought she was trying to cough up a hairball although she never produced one, but when she had a separate episode of rapid breathing I called my vet. I took this video (and others) to show my vet because I wasn't sure what coughing looked like vs a hairball. She said this is definitely coughing (from the lungs) and not a hairball (which is really vomiting from the stomach). She thought it might be kitty asthma from my description, but opted to treat her with Panacur for parasites (lungworms) and antibiotics to rule out any bacterial infection first. We also made an appointment for an x-ray. The x-ray showed the "lines and doughnuts" indicative of inflamed airways. The vet said for a young cat this was definitely not something she would expect to see. After about a week on the Panacur and antibiotics I began to see fewer coughing episodes. The vet drew blood and did labs that showed an elevated white blood count with elevated eosinophils, which she said would be indicative of parasites/lungworms. If it was lungworms with continued treatment of the Panacur for 10 days we should see the eosinophils go down when we repeated the blood work. I also applied her monthly topical Revolution treatment which works against fleas, heartworm, roundworm and other parasites including lungworm. The repeat bloodwork did show that her eosinophil levels were going back down toward the normal range and she has had no more coughing episodes. This means this was most likely lungworms. Sometimes vets can pick it up when they test the poop for parasites, but depending on the stage of life of the lungworm they can't always see anything in the poop. My kitty's poop had checked out fine. Overall, as gross as lungworms sound, I was really happy that's what she had instead of Feline Asthma. Lungworms are readily curable. She had to have 10 days of Panacur and we are keeping her on Revolution and that's it. If it was Feline Asthma it's a chronic condition which would require lifelong meds. So yay for lungworms? I wanted to put this video up to help people who might be searching for why their cat is coughing. I watched a lot of YouTube videos trying to figure it out. Cat lungworms can be contracted only through consuming the larva or eggs somehow — through drinking infected water in some cases or, I think more commonly (not sure, not a scientist) eating infected slugs or snails or through eating birds/rodents that have eaten infected slugs or snails. There are 2 or 3 different varieties of lungworms. We live in the southeast US where one kind is not that uncommon. The vet assured me that they are not contagious between cats, or between cats and dogs, or cats and humans. So before we adopted our kitty she must have consumed the lungworm larvae somehow. She is fully recovered now and hasn't coughed once in weeks. If your cat is coughing like this, it's not a hairball! Ask your vet about lungworms or asthma or other respiratory problems. Panacur is readily available and not super expensive. The vet gave it to us in a liquid form to squirt in her mouth. She didn't like it, but it did the trick.

My Cat Coughing Most Likely Due To Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

01:10
My 17 year old Maine Coon mix cat was recently diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart disease which causes an enlargement of the heart, and therefore a reduced efficiency of the heart to pump blood. This reduced efficiency causes a buildup of fluid in the lungs, known as congestive heart failure. HCM causes a heart to beat faster than normal, and the heart muscle can't get enough oxygen to keep up. This results in a cat going into respiratory distress. I uploaded this video to help other cat owners recognize this type of coughing could indicate that their cat has a serious heart problem and should be seen immediately by a veterinarian.

Feline Asthma - Bob's Attacks

01:41
Feline asthma attacks are commonly mistaken for hairball problems. Bob started showing signs of asthma in his 7th year. His attacks were mild and bi-weekly, and the vet advised keeping windows shut at night. It was humid where we lived in the Caribbean. His attacks became severe and much more frequent (4 a day) after moving to northern Sweden. Very dry climate there. Initially he took Prednesol tablets. We have recently begun using Flutide aerosol administered using the AeroKat Chamber. Bob is doing much much better now. Thanks for your concern. ------------- Great websites to help you with questions and dealing with Feline Asthma: http://www.fritzthebrave.com/ http://www.felineasthma.org/overview/ http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/felineasthma_inhaledmeds/

Congestive heart failure Diagnosis - Dr Sunil Kumar

01:53
Congestive heart failure is diagnosed first based on the symptoms of the patient present they cone with exertional tiredness, fatigability, breathing difficulty, on examination we will find some features such a s fluid accumulation in legs and fluid accumulation in the lungs and the oxygen saturation might be low. In very sick cases patients BP might be low and heart rate is high and we need to do certain investigations like electrocardiogram, that is called as ECG to see whether there is any heart attack that has lead to the heart failure or any rhythm abnormalities that has led to the heart failure. The most important tool for the diagnosis of heart failure is the echocardiogram. That is the scanning of the heart where we see the heart functions, we see the functions of the valves if there is any leakage of the valves or whether there is any blockage of the valves, whether the heart is weak or whether the heart is pumping normally or whether there is any relaxation abnormality. So all this can be obtained by the electrocardiogram. So based on the clinical symptoms, the examination and certain blood investigations ECG and echocardiogram. We can diagnose heart failure in most of the patients. World's Largest Video Heath Platform is now in Hindi Subscribe to - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS1y5nTRddMYnozjN9iw0mA for HINDI videos

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is not an uncommon disease in cats. The thick heart muscle causes the heart to enlarge and can lead to congestive heart failure or fluid in the lungs. Cats with HCM are also predisposed to developing blood clots placing them at risk for stroke (feline arteriothromboembolsim) or "saddle thrombus".
