It has many beneficial properties but can also have some very serious side effects and can be very dangerous if combined with some types of medications. If you have any of these conditions, do not use apple cider vinegar to avoid complications. THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF THE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR One of the most common uses of apple cider vinegar is weight loss. Stroke reduces the appetite because it empties the stomach more gradually and makes you feel sated for longer without feeling the need to eat. According to a Chinese study, consumption of ACV reduces the risk of esophageal cancer by 37%. Apple cider vinegar can be used for the treatment of yeast infections and athlete's foot because it has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is related to some very serious conditions. Because of its acetic acid, stroke reduces bad cholesterol levels, blood pressure and reduces cancer risks. In addition, it has anti-glycemic properties and avoids the digestion of starches that cause blood sugar levels to rise, so it may be useful for diabetics. DO NOT USE THE SIDRA VINEGAR OF APPLES IF YOU USE ANY OF THESE MEDICINES! Although apple cider vinegar has wide use for various medical problems, you should know the side effects if combined with some medications, as they can be very serious. When apple cider vinegar interacts with some medications it lowers potassium levels in the body. Here is the list of medications that should not be combined with apple cider vinegar. Digoxin or Lanoxin This medicine is used to treat heart disease. Apple cider vinegar obstructs the absorption of potassium in the body, so it increases the risk of manifestation of side effects of this medication, which include vomiting, vision problems, mood swings, diarrhea and dizziness. Diuretics: Diuril, Lasix, Microzide and Thalitone These medications are used to treat swelling and stimulate the body to remove accumulated fluid. Potassium maintains the balance of water in the body and, as apple cider vinegar reduces potassium levels, can cause dehydration. Insulin Insulin is a medicine used by diabetics to balance blood sugar levels in the body. According to some studies, apple cider vinegar may help control blood sugar levels, but should never be taken in combination with insulin because the combination of these can greatly reduce potassium and sugar levels in the blood. blood. Consumption of apple cider vinegar should be taken with caution. Prolonged use of apple cider vinegar can cause low levels of potassium in the body, which can lead to other health problems. For example, consuming 8 ounces of apple cider vinegar every day for a couple of years can cause osteoporosis. OTHER GROUPS OF PERSONS WHO SHOULD NOT USE THE VINEGAR OF SIDRA OF APPLE Pregnant women and nursing mothers There is insufficient evidence of how apple cider vinegar affects the body and the fetus during pregnancy, so it is best to avoid taking ACV. This also goes for breastfeeding mothers because it is not so clear how it affects newborns. Diabetics If you have any type of diabetes, you should be very careful when taking apple cider vinegar. Stroke can lower blood sugar levels, so if you take any medication, you should adjust it if you want to include stroke. Potassium levels in the body can be reduced with insulin and apple cider vinegar. Therefore, taking ACV and insulin at the same time can greatly reduce potassium levels in the body. Postmenopausal women Postmenopausal women are already at risk for reduced bone density and taking large amounts of apple cider vinegar can cause osteoporosis because it reduces potassium levels in the body.

Bad Medicine ~ Lisinopril

I was recently prescribed Lisinopril for high blood pressure. I had a terrible side effect with a bad dry cough. The cough was 24/7. It can persist for weeks even if you stop taking Lisinopril. Stay away from this medicine if possible and ask your doctor for an alternative.

Atenolol (Tenormin) : Indication, Side effects, Interaction, Contraindication, Dose,

09:24
Please visit: http://www.diseasesandtreatment.com for more information about diseases and treatment option. What is atenolol? Atenolol (Tenormin) is a beta-blocker that affects the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Atenolol is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). You should not use this atenolol if you have a serious heart condition such as "AV block," very slow heartbeats, or heart failure. Do not stop taking atenolol without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse. If you need to have any type of surgery, you may need to temporarily stop using atenolol. Be sure the surgeon knows ahead of time that you are using this medicine. Atenolol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol, which could increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking atenolol. Atenolol is only part of a complete program of treatment for hypertension that may also include diet, exercise, and weight control. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely if you are being treated for hypertension. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using this medication even if you feel fine. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. Atenolol dosing information Usual Adult Dose of Atenolol for Hypertension: Initial dose: 50 mg orally once a day Maintenance dose: 50 to 100 mg orally once a day Maximum dose: 100 mg per day Comments: -If desired response not achieved after 1 to 2 weeks, increase to 100 mg may be beneficial. -Doses greater than 100 mg once a day did not result in significant additional antihypertensive effects. Use: For the treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Usual Adult Dose of Atenolol for Angina Pectoris Prophylaxis: Initial dose: 50 mg orally once a day -Increase to 100 mg orally once a day after 1 week if optimal response not achieved Maintenance dose: 50 to 200 mg orally once a day Maximum dose: 200 mg per day Comments: -Some patients may require 200 mg per day to attain optimal effect. Use: For the long-term management of angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis. Usual Adult Dose for Angina Pectoris: Initial dose: 50 mg orally once a day -Increase to 100 mg orally once a day after 1 week if optimal response not achieved Maintenance dose: 50 to 200 mg orally once a day Maximum dose: 200 mg per day Comments: -Some patients may require 200 mg per day to attain optimal effect. Use: For the long-term management of angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis. Usual Adult Dose of Atenolol for Myocardial Infarction: 50 mg orally twice a day or 100 mg orally once a day

QUESTION NUMBER 1: The 33-year-old hypertensive client mentions that she thinks she is pregnant. Upon reviewing the client’s list of medications, the nurse takes note of which of medications that can be contraindicated in pregnancy? Select all that apply A. Lisinopril (Prinivil) B. Amlodipine (Norvasc) C. Metoprolol (Lopressor) D. Irbesartan (Avapro) E. Methyldopa (Aldomet) F. Simvastatin (Zocor) It is very important for women to review their medication list with their obstetrician as soon as she discovers that she is pregnant. Women should not use Prinivil if they are pregnant. Studies have proven that it could cause harm to the unborn baby. You might see Norvasc ordered for your pregnant patient. Her doctor may prescribe it when the benefit outweighs the risks. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity or fetal toxicity, however there are no controlled studies done on women. Human studies have been done on pregnant women and findings are that Norvasc Metoprolol readily crosses the placenta, but, no teratogenic effects have been reported. The data of its use during pregnancy has no controls. It may be prescribed when the benefit outweighs the risk.as there is no controlled data in human pregnancy. Avapro is in category D by the FDA. Some studies have proved increased incidence of early fetal resorptions and a decrease in live births. This drug acts directly on the renin-angiotensin system and can cause fetal and neonatal morbidity and death when administered to pregnant women so is considered contraindicated. You may find Norvasc ordered for your pregnant patient when the benefits outweigh the risk. It does pass the placenta and it occasionally causes mild hypotension in neonates of treated mothers. However, it has been safely used to treat hypertension during pregnancy and many doctors consider using it as the drug of choice for their pregnant hypertensive patients. The use of zocor during pregnancy is contraindicated. This drug is in the US FDA pregnancy categor X since studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities. So, the risks involved in using Zocor during pregnancy outweigh the potential benefits. Answer: Ans.: A, D, F are contraindicated in pregnancy. Always look for phrases like “the benefits outweigh the risks” (meaning it may be prescribed) and “’the risk outweighs the benefit”; (meaning it should not be prescribed) and always closely check all drugs ordered for pregnant and lactating women.

I would like to thank the video contributors: Rizalyn Joy Gadugdug Maria Salvacion Gonzales Yasmin Hashmi Artem Shestakov And Babar Hayatrana Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors or commonly known as ACE Inhibitors. This pharmaceutical drug is used to treat congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and many other medical conditions. Research and clinical studies prove it to be a very effective drug class for many, as it works by causing the blood vessels to become enlarged or dilated, and thus causing a reduction in the blood pressure. This lowering of the blood pressure makes it easier for the heart to pump blood and it can improve the function of a failing heart. In the United States, 10 ACE inhibitors are in use: Ramipril (Altace) Enalapril (Vasotec, Epaned) Quinapril (Accupril) Captopril (Capoten) Benazepril (Lotensin) Lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril) Fosinopril (Monopril) Moexipril (Univasc) Trandolapril (Mavik) Perindopril (Aceon) NOTE...that the brand names of all of these above end with the suffix “pril”. NOW.. let’s take a closer look at this drug class, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, these drugs are helpful in treating heart, blood vessel, and kidney problems... Mechanism of Action: The human body is an amazing organism…In order to regulate water and blood pressure, our body follows special mechanisms. For example when the blood pressure drops too low, the kidneys release renin into the bloodstream. Renin then reacts with a protein called angiotensinogen that is produced by the liver. As a result, they form angiotensin I. Then another reaction converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, with the help of angiotensin-converting enzyme found in the respiratory system. This whole mechanism is known as Renin-angiotensin system (RAS). Angiotensin II is a powerful substance. It circulates around the body in the bloodstream and induces several changes on the cardiovascular system. Such as stimulating adrenal cortex to release adolsterone and Constricting or narrowing down the blood vessels around the body. Aldosterone increases the reabsorption of water and sodium in the tubules of the kidneys. As a result, The volume of the blood and the concentration of salt in the blood increase leading to high blood pressure. The constriction of blood vessels results in high pressure inside the vessels, which also means an increase in blood pressure. Both of these events cause the heart to exert more pressure while pumping blood into the main arteries. Hence, it reverses the low blood pressure but it can also lead to other cardiovascular disorders if it persists for a long time. ACE inhibitors reduce the impact of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) on the blood pressure by inhibiting the angiotensin converting enzyme. As a result, The conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II is slowed down which brings about several changes in the cardiovascular system. The rate of water reabsorption in the kidneys drops and so volume of blood decreases. And the blood vessels relax and become dilated. Both of these factors “reduce the work load on the heart,” (this phrase is a simple explanation that the nurse might give to her patient to explain how the ACE inhibitor
