Treatments Of Testicular Cancer - Manipal Hospital
Symptoms of testicular cancer can vary slightly based on the place of tumor’s presence. In Germ Cell Tumors Testicular cancer, there can be a presence of lump on one of both testicles which may or may not be painful. You may also notice swelling of the testicles. Treatment of testicular cancer is surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy or a combination of these procedures based on the advancement of cancer. This video is an informative animated presentation that explains Testicular Cancer- diagnosis and treatment. Testicular Cancer is a disease of abnormal cell growth in one or both of your testicles. It usually begins in the germ cells where genetic damage or changes called mutations cause the cells to grow uncontrollably. The cancerous germ cells clump together to form a tumour which continues to grow. In most cases, these mutations occur in the germ cells and are called germ cell tumours. Symptoms of testicular cancer may include painless mass on your testicle or testicular pain or swelling. If you have testicular cancer your doctor may recommend surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of treatments. Treatments for testicular cancer are based on the type and stage of the tumour. Your treatment will usually begin with the removal of the cancerous testicle through a radical inguinal orchiectomy. For this procedure your surgeon will make an incision in your lower abdomen, and then your surgeon will remove your testicle from your scrotum. Your surgeon will close the incision with sutures or surgical staples. Next your pathologist will analyse your testicle to determine which type of cancer you have and plan further treatment. Testicular Self Exam
TSE or Testicular Self Examination is a way to examine your testes to find out if they have a normal or an abnormal condition. We actually check for lumps or any swellings or abnormalities in the testes and an early detection can save your life. So if you do it once a month and if you know what to look for you might be able to save your life. Testicular cancer is one of the most common cancers in young men between 15 and 35 years of age. So, you check regularly, to know what’s normal, and then if there’s something abnormal you’ll be able to detect it. So let me show you how to do that examination. Right after the shower, or even during the shower, you can do the examination by standing straight and holding the testes with one hand at the top and the other hand is checking if they’re both sides at the same level. You might find that one is higher than the other, that’s ok. But you just have to check, what is normal in your case and remember that. So, if the right one is higher, you remember, or the opposite. And then you’ll be holding with one hand, say the left hand, and with the right hand you check the right side. Initially you’ll start to fell it and then you’ll feel that something is like running, escaping from you. And gradually you’ll start to learn to hold it tight and fell what’s inside that bag. This bad is called the scrotum. So, with rolling movements between two fingers you will start to feel what’s inside. And once you finish the right side, you hold the top with the right hand and then do the left hand to check the left side, with a rolling movement, in a circle. Now, what do we actually look for? What should you be feeling inside? Let’s see. This is an example of what you should be feeling. Inside the scrotum you’ll feel on testis on the right, and the normal size is about 5x2.5cm (2.5x1inch). In the bag of this bag you’ll find yet another structure, and that is called the epididymis. You will actually find sort of on top back of the testes another mass, and that’s normal. That’s the epididymis, and on the other side as well. Sometimes you might be feeling that one testis has gotten slightly bigger. If you have any pain or feeling that it’s gotten bigger than normal you should contact your doctor. Sometimes you might also feel that one of the testes is smaller than the other, but this is abnormally small, or both have been shrinking very strangely, you’re not used to it, this is also a sign that you should see the doctor. You might also find a small swelling in the size of a pea, right on the surface, so you feel it from outside, and this is a strange swelling. This is an abnormal swelling. This needs contact with a doctor. And also maybe a swelling even this size, as small as a rice, also this is strange. So, what you need to do is get used to the normal feel of your body, of your testes, so that you would immediately know if there’s something abnormal there. Usually you would feel the surface, and its very soft and there’re no swelling or tumors. There’s only a mass in the back, and that’s the epididymis. Another thing you might feel is the sensation that there is a bag of worms at the back of the testes, and that’s a sign of varicocele. This is also a problem that demands us to seek medical help. What should you be feeling? So, let’s see what’s normal. This is a normal testis, so you see here, this is the front side and it’s a normal, soft egg-like structure, and in the back there’s a group of tubes, very small tubes, collecting together, called the epididymis, this is the two structures that you feel. So, what’s abnormal is to feel a swelling or a change in size, so, has gotten very much bigger or very much smaller than normal. Or if you notice any lumps, any tumors in the size of a pea or rice or bigger or smaller. Or if it changes in color, so the color suddenly changed to blue or very red, this is not normal. If there’s pain that you’re not used to, this is abnormal, and if the testis is not there or has never been there, please remember that, so, any change in the position of it, please tell us. And this bag of worm sensation, this is a sign of varicocele. Do it every month to save your life maybe one day. All the best! Alyaa Gad

Testicular Cancer Signs & Symptoms | Testicular Cancer
Watch more How to Understand Testicular Cancer videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/511970-Testicular-Cancer-Signs-and-Symptoms-Testicular-Cancer Most commonly testicular cancer usually presents with a mass that appears within the testicle. There may be things that occur that draw the patient's attention to that mass, for example pain or discomfort in the groin area or trauma. Sometimes people have trauma to the area and all of a sudden it draws attention to the area, and they examine themselves or someone examines that area, and they feel a firm, solid mass within the testicle. That is the classic appearance of testicular cancer. Until proven otherwise, any solid, firm mass within the testicle should be considered as a potential cancer although there are other things that can cause similar findings. That's one of the more common presentations. Testicular cancer can spread to other parts of the body including the abdominal area, the chest, and various other areas. When it does do that, then patients may notice symptoms due to the spread of cancer to those sites. For example, when cancer spreads to the lungs, patients may have shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Cancer can spread through the lymphatic channels to lymph nodes in the body. Sometimes if there's extensive spread, patients may feel lumps in the neck area or the groin areas, various other parts of the body, that may signify the presence of cancer. In general, most of those cases, most cases of testicular cancer will also have some form of a mass within the testicle itself. It's not always a 100% guarantee but most commonly that's the way it presents.

Pregnancy Test & Testicular Cancer
Since the late 1970s women have been home testing to find out if they're pregnant. The telltale marker speaks volumes. "Pregnancy tests work by picking up BETA HCG, which is a hormone made by women during pregnancy," says Dr. Frank Rodriguez, oncologist on Lee Memorial Health System medical staff. Meant for female use, the test has implications beyond what you'd expect for men. In fact, it's possible that a man can test positive- but the results have nothing to do with a baby. "BETA HCG is not normally made up by men, however with testicular cancer there can be a development of cells that are not normally growing or active in normal men. But as those cells become malignant they may revert back to some of the more primitive functions and they may make BETA HCG. So you can certainly have a positive pregnancy test as a man if you have testicular cancer that has HCG," says Dr. Rodriguez. There have been cases, as recent as last fall, when a man discovered his testicular cancer after taking a pregnancy test as a joke. "At the hospital a lot of times if I have a testicular cancer patient I'll order BETA HCG and they'll run a pregnancy test and it will come back positive," says Dr. Rodriguez. While it may be positive indicator, using a pregnancy test as a cancer screener is getting negative reviews. "If you're a man and you're between the ages of 17 and 35 it's probably not a bad idea to do self testicular exams and if you find an abnormality or nodule certainly bring it up with your primary care doctor. Which I think, is a much more effective way of screening for cancer then buying pregnancy tests," says Dr. Rodriguez. Testicular Cancer Less Known Symptoms and Natural Remedies
Testicular Cancer is a rare, fast-proliferating disease of usually young otherwise healthy men, highly curable when detected early & preventable with the regimen I describe in this video clip. It develops in one or both testicles (the testes) in men mostly aged 18-35. Rarely it can touch older men. Symptoms of Testicular Cancer: - Painless swelling and/or lump in one or both testes. The lump can be the size of a pea or as large as a marble. - Lasting pain, sensation of heaviness in the testes or scrotum, sudden collection of fluid in the scrotum. - Shrinking or hardening of a testicle. - Enlargement & heavy feeling in the scrotum. - Discharge of sperm & seminal fluid. - Breast growth and tenderness. - Dull ache, fullness or feeling of pressure in the lower abdomen, pelvis or groin. - Pain in the lower back. - Lack of energy, unjustified sweating, fever, malaise. - Shortness of breath, coughing or chest pain. - Headache or confusion. Steps to Prevent & Fight Any Cancer - Strengthen your immune system whose macrophage cells hunt for & destroy cancer cells. A compromised immune system is a major cause for any cancer. See my video Foods to Stimulate Your Immune & Lymphatic Systems. - Stay positive –Acceptance is the key in your fight against cancer. Keep an upbeat, open mind to the natural remedies that prove to fortify your immunity & embrace them. - Detoxify regularly to keep your detoxification system (skin, liver, lungs, kidneys, lymphatic system, & colon) work together to flush out the toxins and waste naturally. See my video Best Detox Foods. - Change your diet & lifestyle. Eat healthy foods recommended in my videos (organic, alkaline, whole foods), exercise regularly, perform outdoor activities in the sunlight, keep a normal body weight, de-stress, decompress. - Alkalinize – Cancer thrives & proliferates in acidic environment. The pH in and around cancer cells is acidic. Knowing that acid pH stimulates tumor cell invasion & metastasis, it is vital to adopt an alkaline diet (see next 2 slides). An alkaline pH protects the body against cancer & helps to fight it. - Oxygenate – According to Dr. Otto Warburg, Nobel prize winner, low oxygen is characteristic of cancer cells which cannot live in an oxygen-rich or alkaline environment. Therefore, increase the circulation of oxygen flow to the cells by adequate diet & exercise.

Symptoms Of Testicular Cancer
Symptoms Of Testicular Cancer I'm doing this video about testicular cancer because someone in my family has experienced it, so I've had a chance to learn more than I ever wanted to know about it. I'll share what I've learned about the symptoms of testicular cancer in the next minute or so. I've also done a lot of reading and research on this topic on reliable medical websites like these. Compared with other types of cancer, testicular cancer is fairly rare. But it's most likely to occur in males between the ages of 15 and 35, when a tumor grows on a testicle. See the visual on the left. Cancer usually affects only one testicle. Symptoms include * A lump or enlargement in either testicle * A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum * A dull ache in the abdomen or groin * Pain or discomfort in a testicle or the scrotum Men may also experience enlargement or tenderness of the area of the breasts. Back pain can be a symptom when considered in conjunction with those I've listed. You should consult your doctor if you detect any pain, swelling or lumps in the testicles, especially if these symptoms continue for more than two weeks. I've produced several other videos on this topic. You can watch them by clicking on the links above.

What Is Testicular Cancer? | Testicular Cancer
Watch more How to Understand Testicular Cancer videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/511969-What-Is-Testicular-Cancer-Testicular-Cancer Testicular cancer is a cancer that affects approximately one in 250 men, in the span of their lifetime with an incidence of about 0.4%. Notably, it affects most commonly men between 20 and 40, so of all cancers that affect men between the ages of 20 and 40, testicular cancer is the most common one. When we talk about how common it is, we talk about something called a bi-modal distribution. Which means that there's two spikes of peak incidents and one spike occurs between 20 and 40, another spike occurs around the age of 60. Men who get testicular cancer around the age of 60 tend to have a type of cancer called spermadicitic seminoma. Testicular cancer as any other cancer is basically an abnormal or uncontrolled growth of cells within the testicle, and when some of those cells grow uncontrollably, and have the ability to both invade and spread to other parts of the body, we refer to that as testicular cancer. Of the various types of testicular cancer, cancers can arise from cells within the testicle where sperm is produced or there are other types of cells in an area called the interstitium, where they have certain cell types called leydig cells and sertoli cells. Leydig cells are actually responsible for testosterone production. You can get tumors of the leydig cells, they're called leydig cell tumors. You can get tumors of the sertoli cells. Leydig and sertoli cell tumors are one type, but they actually represent the minority of testicular cancers, approximately 5.0% or less. Ninety-five percent of testicular cancers arise from the sperm producing cells, what we call the germ cell tumors. Of germ cell tumors, there are also many different types. However, we broadly classify them into two broad categories, one type being seminoma and the second type being non-seminoma. Now non-seminoma can have multiple subtypes within that group and those include things like embryonal cell carcinoma, teratoma, choriocarcinoma and yolk-sac tumor. These are all types of testicular cancer. There are other types of cancer that can affect the testicle as well. These may be things such as lymphoma, which can involve other parts of the body and actually grow within the testicle itself. There are some more rare types of very aggressive cancers that can affect the testicle such as rabdomiosarcoma, sarcomas and these are very aggressive forms of cancer. They don't necessarily originate within the testicle. However, there are also some benign conditions that affect the testicle that can often be confused for testicular cancer and there are tumors that arise in the tissue around the testicles that can be benign as well. But in general, when we refer to testicular cancer we're talking about cancers that arise from the testicles. The most common types we talk about, as I mentioned before, 95% are what we call germ-cell tumors with seminoma and non-seminoma. The reason we categorize, we put cancers into these separate, broad categories, seminoma versus non-seminoma, it really affects the way we manage the cancer, we treat the cancer. There are different algorithms and different pathways we use when evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients with these different types of cancers.

Self-Exam for Testicular Cancer
Women do it all the time - men not so much - although both could benefit from self-screening for cancer. "Women are very comfortable doing breast examinations; men are less comfortable in a testicular examination," says Dr. Meir Daller. Dr. Daller is a urologist on staff of Lee Memorial Health System. But testicular cancer is on the rise. From 1973 to 1992, rates increased by more than 50%. There are very few symptoms other than a lump. "Testicular cancer is what I call painless mass. Most of the time you don't have any sign or symptom beside the mass. So you are not going to have any achiness or fever or tiredness," says Dr. Daller. Often called a young man's cancer, it is most common between the ages of 15 and 40. An age when men are less likely to think about cancer. "Men are embarrassed by the cancer and present to the doctor quite late. Most men at the age of 30- 40 feel that they're immune from health issues," says Dr. Daller. The self-exam comes down to knowing what feels normal for your body. Experts suggest feeling for lumps in the shower when the body is relaxed. "It's the easiest exam to do. Every man knows how his body feels, what's normal and what's abnormal," says Dr. Daller. The cure rate for this form of cancer is extremely high. If caught early the 5-year survival rate is 99%. "Very few people are dying of testicular cancer. The majority of the patients are cured. But it depends when we caught the cancer," says Dr. Daller. Making it a good reason to get a handle on your health.
