Preparing and Giving Oral Amoxicillin - Newborn Care Series

By Global Health Media Project. Download link: http://globalhealthmedia.org/videos/ Sick young babies are best cared for in a hospital. When referral is not possible though, oral amoxicillin plus IM gentamicin are an effective alternative. This video shows how to prepare amoxicillin correctly and some helpful tips for giving it to the young baby. The intended audience is frontline health workers in the developing world. Copyright © 2016, Global Health Media Project Script follows: Preparing and Giving Oral Amoxicillin Sick young babies are best cared for in a hospital. When referral is not possible though, oral amoxicillin plus IM gentamicin are an effective alternative. Amoxicillin must be prepared and given correctly. Caregivers need to understand how to give the small doses accurately. Getting oral medicine into a baby can be challenging. The medicine can taste bitter, and some amount may be lost if the medicine dribbles out of the baby’s mouth or is spit up. This video will show how to prepare Amoxicillin and some helpful tips for giving it to the young baby. Doses for babies are usually calculated based on the baby’s weight. Start by getting an accurate weight. The baby weighs 3.4 kilos. Amoxicillin comes in powder for syrup, dispersible tablets and standard tablets. The powder preparation is easiest to prepare. Using clean water that has been boiled and cooled, add the volume of water indicated on the bottle to make a standard dose. Then shake the bottle to mix the medicine well. The dosage chart for amoxicillin shows that our 3.4 kilo baby needs 5 milliliters or – one teaspoon of syrup - twice a day for 7 days. If you can give the mother a syringe, show her how to draw up the dose. Have her put the syringe inside the baby’s cheek. If he spits or vomits the dose within 10 minutes, have her repeat the dose. She can also use a teaspoon. They are generally 5 milliliters. Check the volume by filling the spoon with 5 milliliters from a syringe. If the baby doesn’t take the medicine easily, gently pinching the baby’s cheeks will open his mouth to take the medicine. Give it little by little. A paladai (pal-a-die), a small feeding cup traditionally used in South Asia, can be a very effective way to give medicine to babies. Dispersible tablets are easy to dissolve. The dose for our 3.4 kilo baby is one-half of a 250 mg tablet. Show the mother how to dissolve it in 1 or 2 teaspoons of breast milk -- or clean water. Stir the liquid until the tablet is completely dissolved, then feed it to the baby. Standard tablets need to be crushed into powder before dissolving. Again, our baby’s dose is one-half of a 250mg tablet. You can make it easy for the mother by dividing all 7 tablets needed for her baby’s full treatment. Show the mother how to crush a piece into powder and mix it with a little breastmilk, or water that has been boiled and cooled. She then gives it to the baby by cup or spoon. If her baby spits out the medicine frequently, the mother can also try making a paste. She can add a few drops of clean water to a powdered dose. This will make a thick paste she can put it inside her baby’s cheek a little at a time. Always label the medicine with: the name of the baby, the name of the medicine, how much medicine to give the baby, how often to give it, and for how many days. Explain the label to the mother. Have her give the first dose there at the clinic. Encourage the mother to breastfeed the baby afterward so that the baby will swallow all the medicine. The mother should keep all medicine in a cool place, out of the sun, and out of reach of children. Let her know that all the tablets or syrup must be used to complete the treatment even if her baby gets better. Check that the mother understands before she leaves the clinic. Remember: Make the preparation and dosing easy for the mother. Guide her by giving the first dose of amoxicillin at the clinic. Share helpful tips – the medicine will only be effective if the baby swallows all the doses.

Diabetic Foot Wound Antibiotics What Is The Best Diabetic Foot Wound Antibiotics

01:43
http://diaberex.com/ Diabetic Foot Wound Antibiotics - What Is The Best Diabetic Foot Wound Antibiotics? People with diabetes are prone to having foot problems, often because of two complications of diabetes - nerve damage (neuropathy) or poor circulation (peripheral vascular disease) or a combination of the two. Neuropathy can cause loss of feeling in the feet, taking away a person's ability to feel pain and discomfort, meaning they may not detect injury or irritation. Poor circulation in the feet reduces the ability to heal, making it hard for even a tiny cut to resist infection. Patients with mild infections can be treated in outpatient settings with oral antibiotics that cover skin flora including streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus. Agents such as cephalexin, dicloxacillin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, or clindamycin are effective choices.

How to Treat Gonorrhea (The Clap) | STDs

01:35
Watch more Learn about STDs videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/498664-How-to-Treat-Gonorrhea-The-Clap-STDs Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection and as such is completely curable with antibiotics. Because it's often asymptomatic you can't always tell that you have it. In order to know that you have it you have to be tested so will you go to a medical provider, a family planning clinic and they will diagnose you with gonorrhea. And then they will prescribe an antibiotic. Antibiotics are very effective for curing gonorrhea. So you want to make sure however that you take the entire prescription of antibiotics. So they may prescribe for 10 days. You need to take it for all 10 days to in order to be sure that the bacterial infection is gone. If not you can still transmit, or you might still have the bacteria in your system and you can transmit it then to another partner. Often gonorrhea and chlamydia occur together. So if you are diagnosed for gonorrhea they will probably test you for chlamydia and they may prescribe an antibiotic for that. Usually it's the same antibiotic that will cure both of them. One very important thing to note is that although gonorrhea and chlamydia are completer curable with antibiotics, if left undiagnosed and untreated they can lead to infertility in both men and women. There are some strains of gonorrhea that might be a little bit more resistant to antibiotics so if your strain isn't responding to a certain antibiotic they might switch you over to another one. Again, really important that you take the entire course of medication and that you talk to your medical provider about any symptoms you might have.

Apple Cider Vinegar can heal your dog or cat

04:45
Apple cider vinegar saved my pet, Sasha. This simple home remedy does wonders for cats and dogs. It cures stomach problems including runny stool, vomiting and urinary tract infections common among house pets. It also curbs those pesky hair balls and unnecessary vomiting. It does wonders with their immune system and their respiratory system, and aids their digestive track. It's also good for urinary tract infections or prevents crystals from forming in the urine, and it gets rid of those brown tear stains. In fact, it helped my cat who was near death get back on track. I really love this stuff. Less is more so please don't give your cat more than a recommended dose of 1/4 tsp diluted in 8 ozs. of water. They trust you, so don't hurt them. My cat, Sasha, had been sick for 3 weeks straight before I stumbled on this information. It really, really works. I thank God for it because I'm not sure if my cat would have survived. He lost a lot of weight while he was sick. He weighs 20 pounds and it was noticeable. Now, he's gained 80 percent of his weight back and he's not sick anymore. He got sick because I changed to high quality cat food, but he was too old to adjust to the change, so I had to switch him back. He is happy as a little clam now. He's birthday is in December. He will be 15 years old -- that's a major milestone for any cat. Sasha has since gone on to heaven, but he was 17 years old when he passed, and he had a fabulous quality of life before he passed. So, I could be the poster child for this stuff. 3 Powerful Home Remedies for Tonsillitis That Work Fast!

03:35
When you have a sore throat it might not be because you’re having sinus issues or battling allergies. The same is true with halitosis. The cause of bad breath isn’t always due to something that you might have eaten. Both of these symptoms could be caused by a little-known but aggravating problem: tonsil stones. Also known as tonsilloliths, these stones form when debris gets trapped in the small pockets on either side of the throat. Over time, this debris hardens and becomes calcified. People who have chronic infections or inflammation in their tonsils are more susceptible to tonsil stones. In rare cases, they become quite large and painful, but in most cases they never reach this stage and can be removed with natural remedies. Before we look into some of these solutions, keep in mind that prevention is always the best medicine. Therefore, to ensure that your tonsils stay clear of debris make sure that you have a diet rich in probiotics. This will provide your body with good bacteria and the defenses necessary to fight off the harmful bacteria, that allow these deposits to form. Proper hygiene, including gargling and drinking lots of water, helps keep the throat area properly flushed, and free from the particles that get lodged and eventually form the tonsil stones. It’s always recommended to brush your teeth two to three times a day which also kills harmful bacteria. With these measures, if you’re unsuccessful in preventing tonsil stones, and begin noticing an acute pain in your ear, or if you have difficulty swallowing accompanied by unusually bad breath, try some of these natural remedies to remove these small white stones in your throat. 1. Utensils 2. Gargling 3. Eating certain foods Remember to consult a medical professional if your symptoms worsen, or if none of these natural cures solve the problem. ---------------------------------------- ▶ Subscribe to the channel - https://goo.gl/3tB19z ▶ Natural Cures en español - https://goo.gl/QcoLf2 ▶ नेचर क्योर्स - Natural Cures (Hindi) - https://goo.gl/okYDFd ▶ Mindfully Yours - https://goo.gl/qXiBjy Disclaimer: The materials and the information contained on Natural Cures channel are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter. The concern that has received the most attention is the risk of tendon rupture. Fluoroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and levofloxacin (Levaquin), are often used to treat urinary infections. These antibiotics have been associated with increased risks of tendon ruptures. Antibiotic-associated diarrhea can occur when you take antibiotics. These medications can alter the normal bacteria in the G.I. system. In order to decrease your chance of having diarrhea, your doctor can keep the duration of antibiotic treatment as short as possible that still eliminates the infection. Antibiotics that have been linked to photosensitivity are a concern for anyone who plays outdoor sports or exercises outside. Tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones and sulfa drugs are believed to carry this risk. It is possible that you could develop a serious sunburn on body parts exposed to the sun or have an increased risk of skin cancer if you use these medications. Theoretically you should avoid these antibiotics or use sunscreen and wear fully protective clothing. By no means does this list of concerns represent medical advice. If you have an infection and require antibiotic treatment, you should ask the doctor about possible complications with those drugs, especially as they pertain to exercise and sports. Please remember, while I appreciate your questions, I cannot and will not offer specific medical advice by email, online, on my show, or in the comments at the end of these posts. My responses are meant to provide general medical information and education. Please consult your physician or health care provider for your specific medical concerns.

Put it in the comments box below or email me at lyndall.pinchen@gmail.com Hi there, Lyndall Pinchen from Canine Vitality back today to share with you part two of ANTIBIOTICS AND STEROIDS – DAMAGING DUO FOR YOUR DOG. In part one we looked at the damaging impact of both antibiotics and steroids on the long term health of your dog and found that they can lead to gut damage and immune imbalances as well as general toxicity. And while we know that these drugs can truly be life saving, for the most part your dog is being exposed to these drugs way too much. So, if we want to avoid these drugs, what are the alternatives?? I know as dog owners that the thought of not being able to rely on turning to these two drugs can be a scary thought- I mean, aren’t they the only way to control infections and inflammation??? Well, thankfully NO. Mother nature has provided us with some amazing natural medicines that are highly effective as both natural antibiotics and steroids. Today I’ll be focusing on herbs as they are my passion and I regularly use these with good success both in my own life and professionally. ANTIBIOTICS: I know this is a big one- the medical profession has placed such fear in our minds about needing antibiotics for even minor infections that it’s no wonder that we are scared to rely on anything else. Vets even prescribe prophylactic antibiotics ‘just in case’ an infection occurs. But did you know that when used at the correct dose and frequency that herbs can be just as effective if not MORE effective than many standard antibiotics. Why would I say more effective?? Well, that’s the beauty of herbs. Rather than just having ONE single action like an antibiotic, every single herb has MULTIPLE actions. Take for example one of my favourite antibiotic herbs GARLIC. This herb has natural antibiotic action but is also has the ability to boost the immune system and is a powerful antioxidant- all properties you really need when the body is fighting any infection. Now I can already hear you saying, but isn’t garlic toxic to dogs/?? When used in the correct dose it is absolutely SAFE for dogs. You can learn more about Garlic by checking out my blog post post https://youtu.be/zjsjHlfNhkQ . I always add Garlic tincture into my herbal antibiotic blends and it combines well with other herbs like Echinacea and Thyme. I find that using liquid tinctures for any infection works well as it is quickly taken into the body and goes to work rapidly. However, it is important to know that giving more frequent doses is required especially for severe infections. I work on giving 1 drop per kilogram of bodyweight twice daily for maintenance doses but in infectious states, you would want to be giving this dose every 1-2 hours where possible. What about other herbs that are natural antibiotics?? ........... Want to learn more about Garlic??
