Overview: The Most and Least Effective Antidepressants

05:25
522 randomized controlled trials involving 21 antidepressants and 116,477 people were analyzed. It appears the most effective antidepressants (at a duration of 8 weeks) include amitriptyline, escitalopram, mirtazapine, paroxetine, and venlafaxine. While reboxetine and trazodone had notably lower efficacy ratings. Some of the most effective drugs had lower tolerability scores, however, indicating they may have a greater side effect burden. The antidepressant literature shows signs of potential bias, so the results have to be considered with that in mind. IPCI Intellipharmaceutics Announces FDA Tentative Approval for Generic Seroquel XR®

00:39
ORONTO, Oct. 07, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I) ("Intellipharmaceutics" or the "Company"), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs announced that the Company today received tentative approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") for the Company's abbreviated new drug application ("ANDA") for quetiapine fumarate extended-release tablets in the 50, 150, 200, 300 and 400 mg strengths. The Company's tentatively-approved product is a generic equivalent for the corresponding strengths of the branded product Seroquel XR® sold in the United States by Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals LP (“AstraZeneca”). Pursuant to a settlement agreement between the Company and AstraZeneca dated July 30, 2012, the Company is permitted to launch its generic versions of the 50, 150, 200, 300 and 400 mg strengths of generic Seroquel XR®, on November 1, 2016, subject to FDA final approval of the Company's ANDA for those strengths. Such FDA final approval is subject to a 180 day exclusivity period relating to a prior filer or filers of a generic equivalent of the branded product. To our knowledge, two companies have first-to-file status and may be in a position to launch on November 1, 2016, although we cannot be certain of that date. Our intent is to launch these strengths after FDA final approval following expiry of the other companies’ exclusivity period(s). There are currently no generics of Seroquel XR® available in the U.S. market as the product is still under Astra Zeneca’s patent protection until November 1, 2017. There can be no assurance that the Company's quetiapine fumarate extended-release tablets in any of the 50, 150, 200, 300 and 400 mg strengths will receive final FDA approval, or if approved, that they will be successfully commercialized. Dr. Isa Odidi, the CEO and a co-founder of Intellipharmaceutics, stated, "We are thrilled the FDA has granted tentative approval of our generic version of Seroquel XR®, which should further demonstrate our core drug development competency in controlled-release delivery technologies. As Seroquel XR® has yet to come off patent protection, we believe the tentative approval represents a substantial commercial opportunity for the Company." Seroquel XR®, and the drug active quetiapine fumarate, are indicated for use in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. According to Symphony Health Solutions, sales in the United States for the 12 months ended August 2016 of the 50, 150, 200, 300 and 400 mg strengths of Seroquel XR® were approximately U.S. $1.2 billion (TRx MBS Dollars, which represents projected new and refilled prescriptions representing a standardized dollar metric based on manufacturer's published catalog or list prices to wholesalers, and does not represent actual transaction prices and does not include prompt pay or other discounts, rebates or reductions in price).

Placebo is as effective as drugs to prevent migranes in kids

05:23
According to an article published in the January issue of the journal, Pediatrics, placebo is as effective as drugs in preventing migraine headaches in children. Only two drugs, Topamax and trazadone, worked better than placebo, and the very minimal benefits were not worth the risks from side effects. The benefit of placebo was a reduction from six headaches per month to three. The two drugs reduced headaches by one additional headache per month. Drugs such as inderal (beta blocker) and Depakote were no better than placebo! So why are doctors not prescribing placebos for migraine headaches in kids? Would it be more ethical to use dangerous treatments? Hardly! There are many ways to deal with headaches in both kids and adults such as chiropractic, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, medication, yoga, tai chi, qigong, massage, psychotherapy, orthopedic medicine, and photonic stimulation (photonic stimulation). Dr. Len has used photonic stimulation to treat and prevent most all kinds of headaches very successfully. It has been unusual for him to not relieve a headache within 5 minutes (no not a misprint!) and to prevent further headaches using this plus other integrative strategies. What is Borderline Rage? (Borderline Personality Disorder Anger)

08:07
This video describes the concept of “borderline rage,” which refers to the anger that is oftentimes seen with borderline personality disorder. Specifically, one of the criterion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) indicates inappropriate intense anger or difficulty controlling anger. I believe a lot of times when we see this term “borderline rage” it is referring to that even though when we think of rage, we think of a more primitive type of anger. I think one of the reasons is that with borderline personality disorder, the anger does appear to be more intense and more primal than we would see with somebody without borderline personality disorder. Anger in borderline personality just one symptom, however, it's the symptom that tends to get noticed first or at least one of the symptoms that tends to get noticed early on. That's because of the outward acting component of anger. Anger expressed in borderline personality is not simple. We see constant anger, which is when somebody appears to be angry all the time. There is automatic anger, which is anger that comes about without any stimuli or at least without any stimuli that would normally provoke anger. We can also see triggered anger. That is anger that does have an apparent cause. Oftentimes with borderline personality disorder, we believe the anger has higher intensity, a lower threshold to activate, and an extended duration. The anger associated with borderline personality disorder is often pervasive, internalized (“quiet borderline”) and externalized, cyclic associated with a desire for revenge, and there is a lack of insight as to the origin.

Why Natural Anxiety Treatments Are the Hottest Remedies on the Market - Be Cured in Less Than 3 Days

03:59
Best Anxiety Medication - Ways To Make Your Anxiety Go Away With And Without Using Medication at http://www.PanicAwayProgram.org Although anxiety is accepted as being a normal and healthy emotion, some people suffer from intense anxiety, which ends up affecting their lives and causing them to keep away from certain situations that they used to be able to deal without difficulty. If you are suffering from anxiety then you should begin on finding an appropriate and effective method of treatment. http://www.PanicAwayProgram.org The first thing you need to do is determining the type of anxiety disorder you suffer from. There are five main types of anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Effective treatments for each anxiety disorder are accessible, and new and enhanced treatments are always becoming available. Non-medication treatments Once you have found out the type of anxiety that you are suffering from you will be able to find the suitable anxiety disorder treatment. Mild anxiety disorders can often be treated relatively simple with relaxation and breathing techniques. Yoga, for instance, is a great type of exercise that can really help with anxiety and related health conditions. This is definitely something that should be tried prior to more serious forms of anxiety disorder treatment. If your anxiety is more severe or constant, then therapy or counseling may become the best option. Cognitive behavioral therapy for one has been confirmed to be very effective in the treatment of all types of anxiety disorder. In this therapy you work one on one with an experienced and qualified mental health professional, who will assist you to deal with your fears in a safe and controlled environment. Over time you will be able to find out the root of your anxiety and from there work towards developing a treatment plan that will lead you to your normal life. You can also select an anxiety disorder treatment plan that involves natural and herbal treatments. Herbal remedies such as valerian root and kava kava have over and over again proven to be effective at treating anxiety disorders and depression. You do need to keep in mind that just because these herbal remedies are natural it does not indicate that you do not still have to be careful. If taken inappropriately, these remedies can actually worsen your anxiety. Hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and acupuncture are other options for anxiety disorder treatment. In order to determine which one is going to work best for you, you need to talk to your doctor. You may need to try a few different methods before you find the one that works best for you and your particular anxiety condition. Medications for anxiety disorder Generally, most treatments for anxiety disorders include at least one prescription medication. If you start taking medication as a treatment for anxiety disorder, it is important to understand that this should not be a long-term solution and you should keep working with a certified mental health professional in order to determine the root cause of your anxiety. There are several common medications for anxiety disorder and one of them is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Serotonin is known as the brain's all-natural happy drug. Scientists believe that a lack of serotonin is the source of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks and therefore the purpose of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors is to increase the levels of serotonin in the brain. Some familiar brands that use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are Prozac and Zoloft. Benzodiazepines are another choice of medication, which act like minor tranquilizers. They decelerate the body's nervous system, giving it an all-over calm. These types of medications can be addictive, so they should only be taken as prescribed. Some well-known brand names are Xanax and Valium. Another medication that is used to treat anxiety disorder is antidepressants, which affect the neurotransmitters in the brain. Effexor is a good example of this type of anxiety disorder medication. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are very strong antidepressant drugs that should only be taken as a last resort after all other treatments have been tried. These drugs can be lethal when combined with certain other drugs and foods. One thing that need to be noted, anyone who takes antidepressants may become more susceptible to suicide, especially when they first begin to take them or when the dosage is changed.

Adios Insomnia - Learn how to get a good night sleep

00:32
Insomnia causes and cures. Learn how to get a good night sleep. Go to: http://www.adiosinsomnia.com Insomnia Tips This includes regular sleep and wake times. You should avoid eating, drinking, or exercising before bedtime. Insomnia is a very common complaint among older adults. The condition affects more than 70 million Americans. Some symptoms include difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, difficulty with early morning awakening, or not feeling rested by a "good night's sleep." Occasionally, insomnia lasts for a short time and can be easily managed. Other times it is a chronic condition, lasting more than six months. This chronic insomnia is more troublesome and can affect work, social relationships, and health. Many people with insomnia are also diagnosed with other conditions such as depression, anxiety, allergies, or pain. Philosophy of Sleep Hygiene 1. keep a regular sleep schedule 2. exercise regularly but avoid exercise before bed 3. go to bed when sleepy 4. do relaxing and enjoyable activities before bed 5. keep the bedroom quiet and comfortable 6. do not eat a large evening meal 7. if you are not sleeping within 20 minutes, get up and return to bed when you are sleepy 8. Limit it to 30 minutes if you must take a nap 9. avoid alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine 10. have your pharmacist check your medications for stimulating drugs The best medication should act quickly and for a short period of time. This eliminates the "hangover effect" some people experience. The cause of your insomnia will need to be determined and you may need medication to help you sleep. Even if medication is used for insomnia, "sleep hygiene" principles should still be followed and can provide added benefit. For insomnia treatment, I would recommend trazodone first. Trazodone represents approximately 40 % of all insomnia prescriptions. It is very cheap at less than $10 a month. Go with temazepam if that is ineffective. It is also very popular and cheap. It is, however, a controlled substance which means there is a possibility of addiction. If the "sleep hygiene" methods are not working, then it may me necessary to begin using medication. It may also improve sleep quality but probably will not increase the length of sleep time. Kava kava and valerian root are also commonly used for the treatment of insomnia. Valerian root may be helpful in helping one get to sleep as well as improving the quality of sleep. There are a number of treatment options available for the treatment and management of insomnia. It is important to attempt and diagnose to treat the root or underlying cause first. After that, the practice known as "sleep hygiene" should be practiced. If "sleep hygiene" is not effective, then the use of prescription medication may be warranted. It may also improve sleep quality but probably will not increase the length of sleep time. Valerian root may be helpful in helping one get to sleep as well as improving the quality of sleep. If you are still having difficulty getting a good night's sleep, you should talk to your pharmacist or doctor. The cause of your insomnia will need to be determined and you may need medication to help you sleep. Even if medication is used for insomnia, "sleep hygiene" principles should still be followed and can provide added benefit. The next step would be to visit your doctor for a prescription. As is my usual recommendation, begin with the lowest priced medication. If "sleep hygiene" is not effective, then the use of prescription medication may be warranted. Day 5 of Paroxetine (Paxil) Detox/Withdrawal

09:09
I am having to taper off of my daily 20 mg dose of Paxil that I have been on for over a year to help treat the symptoms of my bi-polar disorder. I have been doing a lot of research and found that Paxil is one of the *hardest* SSRI drugs to get off of. I decided to share my symptoms and my progress so that it can either help others on their detox journey and/or help people decide *against* going on Paxil to begin with. I am *very* open to suggestions and advice on how to make this detox more easier on myself. UPDATE (10/25/14): SINCE THIS VIDEO I HAVE OBTAINED INSURANCE THROUGH THE OBAMACARE PROGRAM (I am forever grateful for this program as it has literally saved my life).
