Hey, good day folks, I’m André Givogue, your friendly host here for CareerFH! So, "what is an MLM company you ask?" It quite simple actually, MLM stands for multi-level marketing also known as network marketing which falls under the direct sales category (like "Tupperware" except Tupperware is a single level, not multi level.). All companies, whether traditional or direct sales have to move products in order to stay in business. When I say move products I mean sell products. Traditional companies chose the route of advertising, going through national distributors, regional distributors and finally local distributors before it hits the store shelves. All of these different "steps" take a portion of the profit which is then factored into the cost. Direct sales companies instead chose to go straight from the company to the client going through "representatives", "distributors" or "party hosts". Almost each company has their own lingo. Essentially they save the cost of advertising and branding which is a huge chunk of the pie. Instead they chose to put those profit into better quality products, research or into savings for the customer. Because these companies have less overhead and less employees, this is another source of significant amount of savings. Reps only get paid a percentage commission when they sell products which is performance based. In return, reps which can literally be any body, have the potential to make huge amounts of profits if they sell a lot. Hopefully that answers the first part of the questions: "What is an MLM company?" What Is An MLM Company And How Do They Profit Part 2 In the previous section you've learn about "what is an mlm company" and now let's focus on how they profit. Here's the original question that I was asked: "How do MLM Companies profit when they pay the members on the basis of the number of members that join the network; and they pay them big?" I found that to be an excellent question since not everybody new understands how it works. There’s a rational explanation for this and here’s how it works. First of all, companies never pay for a new recruit to join in. If that were the case, that would be considered an illegal pyramid scheme as the flow of money is from recruiting (which is bad), so if you see this anywhere, it should be a red flag and run away from that opportunity. Legitimate companies pay people based on the product or services they sold and sometimes the companies throws in bonuses as incentives. Let’s say that a company pays out 60% of all revenues. That means on every product or service sold they collect 40% and only the 60% is divided within the commission structure. I’ve also seen 100% pay out commissions but when you scrutinize the commission plan carefully you see you get 100% commission of the product or service however you must pay a “reseller fee” of either $25 or $100 per month. So this can be good and bad depending on how much volume you personally sale. MLM is a business at the end of the day, it has to make money in order to stay in business. Compare it to real estate, some brokerage will offer their agent a 70% - 30% commission split for every house they sale with no desk fees (or office fees), that means the agent keeps 70% and the brokerage keeps 30%. Again, depending on how much volume you plan on selling one is better than the other. Option A in this case would be better for a beginner as there is less risk involved and option B would be better for a “pro” who sells a lot of house so the 2k per month is just a business expense yet he still retains most the commissions from his sales. When the MLM companies get the money, the split goes 40% to the company and the remaining 60% it never surpasses the total revenues meaning, the company never pays above and beyond 100%. This was simplified for illustration purposes only, commissions structures are more complex than that but at the end of the day, they are all properly balanced so they never payout more than their allowable commissions' budget. Civilian employees under the FERS have the additional benefit of agency matching contributions. The FERS employee is guaranteed a 1% agency contribution even if they don't contribute themselves. If they do contribute, the agency contribution formula is as follows: 1% for each 1% contributed by the employee (for a maximum of 3%), then 0.5% for each 1% contributed by the employee (for a maximum of an additional 1%). The maximum agency contribution therefore is 5% (1%+3%+1%). CSRS and Uniformed Service members are not eligible for matching contributions. However, Uniformed Service members (includes Military members) can contribute from additional sources of pay such as special, incentive, and bonus pays. Prior to 2006, the amount that could be contributed was limited to a certain percentage of basic pay. Business Buddy’s Top Ten Tax Saving Tips for Business Owners in 2017 At the start of every year business owners are setting out their business plans and hopes for the year ahead. And so, while planning is top of the agenda it makes perfect sense to consider tax planning ideas at the same time. I set out below my top ten tax planning tips for 2017. 1. Start Up Relief for Entrepreneurs Scheme SURE is a tax refunds for startups incentive scheme for entrepreneurs investing and working full-time in a new business. The scheme offers a potential income tax refunds of up to 41% of the capital that is invested in a new business. Depending on how much you invest you may be entitled to tax refunds for the six years prior to the investment in the new business. For full details see my blog on this scheme. 2. Restricted Share Scheme Many businesses struggle to retain talent and one strategy to counter this is to grant key staff share options in the business that vest after a number of years. The taxable value of the shares in the hands of the employee can be reduced by 60% if the vesting period is more than five years. The costs of setting up the employee share ownership trust are fully deductible for the employer. 3. Employ Spouse and or Children In many small businesses, a spouse contributes significant services to the business and in these situations it is worth considering employing that spouse. A married couple with two incomes could earn an additional €24,800 at the 20% tax rate. If children work in the business during holidays and at weekends then they would have tax credits which could be utilised if they were employed.    4. JobsPlus Incentive JobsPlus is a great incentive from the Department of Social Protection to encourage and reward employers who offer employment opportunities to the long term unemployed. Grants of €7,500 and €10,000 are available depending on how long the candidate has been unemployed. Full details on the scheme are available at www.jobsplus.ie . 5. Accelerated Capital Allowances The Accelerated Capital Allowances scheme is a tax incentive for companies paying corporation tax and aims to encourage investment in energy efficient equipment. The ACA offers an attractive incentive whereby it allows companies to write off 100% of the purchase value of qualifying energy efficient equipment against their profit in the year of purchase. There are 10 different categories of equipment and 52 technologies listed on the schemes website www.seai.ie . 6. Small Benefit Exemption Under a current Irish Tax concession known as the Small Benefits Scheme, employers can reward employees with a non-cash bonus of up to €500 in value completely tax free each year. Provided certain guidelines are followed neither the employer nor the employee will pay PAYE, PRSI or USI, potentially saving €653.65 in tax. For full details see my blog on this exemption. 7. Tax Free Subsistence and Mileage A company director or employee can claim tax free subsistence and mileage expenses if they are required to perform business duties away from their normal place of work. The duties must be carried out more than 8km away to be eligible for the subsistence payments and the mileage rate is up to 59 cent per km depending on engine size. 8. Cash Basis for VAT Cashflow is constant challenge for businesses and the bi-monthly VAT bill is one payment that must be paid on time to avoid unwanted attention from the Revenue Commissioners. Because the sales vat liability is normally calculated on sales invoices issued during the period a cash outflow often occurs before the invoice has been paid. However if your turnover is less than €2m per annum you can opt to pay VAT on the cash basis meaning that the liability for VAT only occurs when the sales invoice is paid. 9. New Company Exemption from Corporation Tax This relief reduces corporation tax on the profits of a new trade and gains on disposal of any assets used for the purposes of the new trade by the amount of PRSI paid for each employee, subject to a maximum of €5,000 per employee and an overall limit of €40,000 in the first 3 years of trading.  10. 10% CGT Rate for Entrepreneurs This new relief was introduced by the government to encourage high potential startups to locate in Ireland but it also applies to home-grown startups. The revised relief is for entrepreneurs disposing of certain business assets. It provides that an effective 10% rate of CGT applies in respect of a chargeable gain or chargeable gains on a disposal or disposals of qualifying business assets on or after 1 January 2017 up to a lifetime limit of €1m. Now is the time to create, market, and promote an attractive and unique summer experience for your client families to ensure that your summer enrollment is maximized. In most communities, parents have lots of options to consider, so delivery of your marketing message is best when it is timely, enticing and creatively competitive. Many parents prefer that children maximize outdoor time, water play and nature activities in the summer, while minimizing time spent indoors. Seasoned providers can gain insight from past summer program experiences and feedback from parents. Try some of these creative theme ideas as you plan your own summer program or camp experiences for 2014: • Around the World -- 'Travel' to different countries with local field trips and outdoor-themed experiences that relate to each country. • In the Garden -- Plant a garden with your theme tied to all the things you grow there throughout the summer. • On Stage -- Put on themed dress-up plays and shows in a backyard mini-amphitheater or puppet theatre, and invite the parents to watch the results. • Outdoor Art -- Organize weekly creative projects -- such as painting clay pots, sheets/banners hanging on the fence, or t-shirts/aprons -- and then exhibit the products. • When I Grow Up -- Feature a different professional theme each week, and tie in visits from themed guests or field trips to their occupational settings. With these and your own ideas for summer programming, looking at past trends in your summer program is your next step. Look at past revenue trends to help you determine your summer camp policies and promotions to help fully maximize your summer revenue. Look at the ups and downs throughout the weeks. If you have a 95% full summer camp because parents are taking all thirteen weeks you are doing extremely well! But that's usually not the case. Most child care center summer programs have pockets of really full weeks and then some weeks that are not so full. So take a look at when this is and adjust both your policies and marketing to fill these gaps. A few ideas for maximizing your revenue this summer: • Reach out to alumni families who have been to your summer camp before, asking them to bring a friend or refer. • Create an early bird promotion. This could be something like, "when you enroll for at least ten weeks of summer by April 15th you will save 10% off the entire summer." • Create an incentive if someone signs up for all thirteen weeks, such as savings on activities fees. • Or roll activity fees into tuition and make it sound like you're eliminating the activity fee. You can reduce the activity fee by doing free field trips and getting creative with activities. Then you'll want to develop a strong marketing campaign with these promotions. Target key marketing elements to effectively communicate to current client families and to the larger community: • Website - Highlight your summer program and feature it in your parent newsletter. • Press release -- Send one to all local media outlets a few times between now and the end of April to maximize your program's exposure. • Flyers -- Deliver descriptive program information in your neighborhood and community with incentives for early enrollment, such as a free week of care (see below for more). • Referral Reward Program -- Reward parents for any enrollment referrals they bring or send to you, clearly outlining this benefit up front. • Testimonials -- Include great testimonials from last years' pleased parents in your promotional materials to leverage this year's success. • Advertisements -- Well-placed ads in local summer camp publications can be very worthwhile. Contact all local media to inquire on deadlines for these special issues. Those are some thought starters but I have also developed a highly effective training system that shows you how to create, promote and fill your own wildly successful summer program or camp. Childcare leaders from around the country have used these exact strategies to grow their summer enrollment quickly and easily, often working less than they did before. Very simply, the State of Missouri Deferred Compensation Plan is a retirement savings plan for state of Missouri employees. Its main role is to provide an additional monthly paycheck that will supplement pension and social security in retirement. More specifically, the deferred compensation plan is a defined contribution plan, where employees contribute their own money, choose their own investments, and manage their own balance while working and through retirement. The deferred compensation plan is also known as a 457 plan, which is the public employee equivalent of a 401k savings account found in the private sector. The major difference between a 401k and a 457 plan is that public employees can access their retirement savings prior to age 59 ½ without paying an early withdrawal penalty. Cost cutting measures are something that all small business owners should be taking in order to increase profits. However, it can be challenging to get employees to be aware of the expenses they generate for the business, especially if those expenses mean making their job a lot easier to do. Basically, the strategy works this way: You set aside a percentage of your business profits on a quarterly basis to be distributed to your employees as an incentive for minimizing expenses. You may want to decide on a goal for expense reduction, then determine how it effects your profitability, before determining the incentive amount. You then post profit and expense reports in areas where your employees can see them on a weekly basis, with the understanding that their profit bonus that you set aside is directly affected by how they manage the expenses your company incurs. Professional Profile: Ian Read, 59, has spent his entire career at Pfizer ($PFE), joining the company in 1978 as an auditor. He job-hopped and globe-trotted, first through Latin America and then to Europe and on to corporate headquarters. Before taking over as CEO at the end of 2010, he was a corporate SVP and president of the worldwide pharma businesses. Total Compensation: $25.634 million Compensation Breakdown: $1.74 million in salary, $3.4 million bonus, $6.44 million in stock, $6.5 million in options and $7.15 million in pension and deferred compensation, plus $409,892 worth of perks, car service, company aircraft privileges and other compensation. Company Performance: Besides heading up the biggest drugmaker on the globe, Read has set the industry talking with his plans to streamline Pfizer. His back-to-pharma-basics strategy has won fans in the investment community, and analysts are hoping for more spinoffs and breakups, if not at Pfizer, then perhaps at Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ) or another diversified Big Pharma company. Read announced his intent to spin off or sell two business units back in 2011, and last year, the plan started coming to fruition. Pfizer sold its nutrition unit to Nestle for $11.9 billion and laid the legal groundwork for the spinoff of its animal health division, Zoetis. That unit's bond sale and IPO, wrapped up early this year, beat all expectations. Meanwhile, the company has been slimming down in another way: by cutting costs. The company's workforce shrank by more than 12,000 last year, and more layoffs were announced in December. An R&D restructuring also contributed to planned cost savings of $4.5 billion a year. What's left? The company's designated core operations--its R&D-based pharma business, and its "value" businesses in off-patent drugs and consumer healthcare. It was a tough year, saleswise; generic competition for key products, including Pfizer's longtime best-seller Lipitor, took a $7-billion-plus bite out of revenue. Even the company's new childhood vaccine, Prevnar 13, acquired along with Wyeth in 2009, began to falter. But the company's emerging markets sales are growing, if not as quickly as it may have hoped. OKLAHOMA CITY -- State Rep. Leslie Osborn said conservative policy should include fair compensation for a quality state employee workforce. "A well-compensated workforce that is efficient is a reasonable idea for a fiscal conservative to look at," Osborn, R-Mustang. "As lawmakers, we are responsible for the recruitment and retention of the highest performing members of the workforce to deliver core state services." Oklahoma Secretary of Finance and Revenue Preston Doerflinger said he opposes across-the-board pay increases and longevity-based pay, but supports an appropriate level of compensation based on performance appraisals, and believes it is necessary to recruit high performers. Doerflinger said lawmakers should strive to pay state employees 75-85 percent of the private sector market value of their position in order to be competitive. The state has consistently lost ground on competitive compensation, according to Lucinda Meltabarger, state administrator of human capital management. As of fiscal year 2011, classified state employees are paid about 19.17 percent below market value. Meltabarger said not all positions are paid equally in relation to the market. For example, IT professionals are paid about $20,000 more at certain local oil companies than at the state, she said. An ideal turnover rate might be about 5 percent, Meltabarger said. According to Ron Wilson, state director of talent management, the fiscal year 2011 voluntary turnover rate for classified state employees was approximately 10 percent. The state loses $68 million annually due to turnover, he said. Meltabarger recommended a more thorough study of state benefits to get a sense of their true value to potential employees rather than their cost to the state. Oklahoma Department of Transportation Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer Mike Patterson said it is difficult to recruit for the agency's positions requiring the highest level of training or education. Highly trained agency employees are generally paid between 25-40 percent below the market value of their positions. Oklahoma Treasurer Ken Miller said his office has trouble recruiting employees. He said as conservative lawmakers continue to reduce the size of state government, some of the savings should be used to recruit quality employees. Jonathan Small, policy analyst for the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, said the state's retirement system is outdated and encourages early retirement. Small recommended that the state move to a defined contribution plan for all new state employees. Another factor that affects turnover is employment security, especially with unclassified positions. "I definitely agree that there are a number of jobs and classifications that need pay raises," said Small. "However, we need to understand that we will never be able to match private sector pay. I think we should try to get close as we restructure our benefit design." Small recommended statutory changes that would increase the flexibility agency heads have to provide compensation on a per job, per employee basis; allow for one-time bonuses; modernize the state benefit structure; and remove onerous barriers to compensation systems based on performance. Small specifically highlighted the need for competitive pay and benefits for corrections employees. Oklahoma Public Employees Association Executive Director Sterling Zearley noted that entry-level child welfare specialists are paid on average at 23 percent below the market and that corrections officers begin at $11.83 per hour while an oil field worker is generally paid $25 per hour. Zearley said he believes state employee pay should be 90 percent of market value, partially because benefits have been gradually reduced. He said he agrees with proposals to modernize benefits and move towards a performance-based system.

This is the truth about “trickledown economics,” a term made popular by opponents of supply-side economics and tax cuts. I go through the history of the term and explain why it’s used and what it means. Ultimately, it’s just an attack on proven economic theories like Say’s Law, otherwise known as the law of markets. Lowering taxes gives people an incentive to work harder, allows business to invest more of their own money or pay it out in dividends and keeps it out of the hands of the government. Supply-Side economics is a proven economic theory as it is simply the concept that economies get stronger by producing more and better goods and services. Milton Friedman makes an appearance in the video, as does Ronald Reagan along with the “greatest treasurer in the universe” Wayne Swan. Wayne Swan is credited with “saving Australia from the GFC” by other Leftist “economists” who don’t understand economics but claim to in order to push politics. The former treasurer did nothing but take an Australia with zero federal debt and leave it with a massive debt along with a large and growing structural deficit.
