I have Bipolar Type 1 Disorder and I have reached a point where I can identify when I am sliding into a hypo-manic, manic, full blown mania but sadly if I spiral into psychosis I am usually not self aware enough to care or do anything about it. I'm making these videos with the hopes that they will raise awareness, educate, inform and fight the stigma associated with Bipolar Disorder. "There is a particular kind of pain, elation, loneliness, and terror involved in this kind of madness. When you’re high it’s tremendous. The ideas and feelings are fast and frequent like shooting stars, and you follow them until you find better and brighter ones. Shyness goes, the right words and gestures are suddenly there, the power to captivate others a felt certainty. There are interests found in uninteresting people. Sensuality is pervasive and the desire to seduce and be seduced irresistible. Feelings of ease, intensity, power, well-being, financial omnipotence, and euphoria pervade one’s marrow. But, somewhere, this changes. The fast ideas are far too fast, and there are far too many; overwhelming confusion replaces clarity. Memory goes. Humor and absorption on friends’ faces are replaced by fear and concern. Everything previously moving with the grain is now against—you are irritable, angry, frightened, uncontrollable, and enmeshed totally in the blackest caves of the mind. You never knew those caves were there. It will never end, for madness carves its own reality. It goes on and on, and finally there are only others’ recollections of your behavior—your bizarre, frenetic, aimless behaviors—for mania has at least some grace in partially obliterating memories. What then, after the medications, psychiatrist, despair, depression, and overdose? All those incredible feelings to sort through. Who is being too polite to say what? Who knows what? What did I do? Why? And most hauntingly, when will it happen again? Then, too, are the bitter reminders—medicine to take, resent, forget, take, resent, and forget, but always to take. Credit cards revoked, bounced checks to cover, explanations due at work, apologies to make, intermittent memories (what did I do?), friendships gone or drained, a ruined marriage. And always, when will it happen again? Which of my feelings are real? Which of the me’s is me? The wild, impulsive, chaotic, energetic, and crazy one? Or the shy, withdrawn, desperate, suicidal, doomed, and tired one? Probably a bit of both, hopefully much that is neither. Virginia Woolf, in her dives and climbs, said it all: “How far do our feelings take their colour from the dive underground? I mean, what is the reality of any feeling?” ~ An Unquiet Mind I am not a professional film maker .....I am posting this video to bring awareness to Mental Illness and more specifically Bipolar Mania which there seems to be a shortage of in general because it is very difficult for most people to recognize that they are in the middle of a manic episode and slow down enough to capture video. Anyhow please feel free to contact me if you have any questions

The Problem With New Zyprexa Containing Antipsychotic for Schizophrenia ALKS 3831 from Alkermes
The pharmaceutical company Alkermes is currently researching ALKS 3831 an antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia that combines olanzapine, already sold under the brand name Zyprexa, with samidorphan, an opiod antagonist. The purpose of it is to reduce the weight gain that usually comes with antipsychotics. But will it be worth it compared to currently avoid antipsychotics like Geodon or Abilify? Risperidone (Risperdal) REVIEW
I review the anti-anxiety, as well as anti-psychotic medication Risperidone, the generic for Risperdal. Risperidone is used to treat anxiety and for people with more intense problems, bi-polar disorder and even schizophrenia. I was taking Risperidone for anxiety. At the time this video was filmed I was on Risperdal over 10 years, and tell you all about my ups and downs during that time. I may have discontinued use of this medication and all medications at this point. Yet I do not like to say publicly what medications I am or am not taking. I was, however, on Risperidone for about 10 years, and these are my results. I do suggest to first and foremost see a psychiatrist or prescribing doctor and a psychologist or counsellor to diagnose you before starting any medications. In my opinion, and I am not a doctor or qualified medical professional in any way, I suggest to readjust your diet, consider if you are not getting enough nutrients at important times throughout the day (especially breakfast, if you are substituting morning meals for caffeine, which can deprive your brain of nutrients), as well as take a look at the privacy and well being of your current living situation, also your employment situation insofar as relationships at work or if it is a job that makes you happy. Also, I suggest that before starting medication to reevaluate your closest relationships in your life and if there is an imbalance that is causing you to have these problems or any possible outside influences that can be changed without the need for medication. Please consult a prescribing doctor, psychiatrist and psychologist to talk about this before deciding what treatment is right for you. Review of Zoloft (generic for Sertraline): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU1GiqrGnF0 Review of Citalopram (generic for Celexa): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdEVgA7cd2c I cannot offer much advice, because I am not a doctor. However, if you have questions, please just watch the whole video and if you are interested my videos on Citalopram (Celexa) and Zoloft (Sertraline) at the above links. I offer insight to anyone taking this medicine or considering taking this medicine for anxiety, depression or other problems. I wish you the best and wish I had the time to help out everyone. All I can suggest is to actually hear all I have already said in the videos, which should answer your questions, as well as ask your psychiatrist. Here and there I try to help by responding to comments, but I have covered most of everything in the videos. Thanks for watching. Here is information copied directly from WIkipedia on Risperdal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risperidone): Risperidone, sold under the trade name Risperdal among others, is an antipsychotic medication.[1] It is mainly used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability in people with autism. It is taken either by mouth or by injection into a muscle.[1] The injectable version is long acting and lasts for about two weeks.[2] Common side effects include movement problems, sleepiness, trouble seeing, constipation, and increased weight.[1][3] Serious side effects may include the potentially permanent movement disorder tardive dyskinesia, as well as neuroleptic malignant syndrome, an increased risk of suicide, and high blood sugar levels.[1][2] In older people with psychosis as a result of dementia it may increase the risk of dying. It is unclear if it is safe for use in pregnancy. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic. Its mechanism of action is not entirely clear but believed to be related to its ability as a dopamine antagonist.[1] Information, websites and links about me Watch now on Amazon instant video or buy my first feature film Crazy Animal on DVD at this link! Medications for Depression & Bipolar | Robert D. McMullen, MD
Robert D. McMullen, MD about Medications for Depression & Bipolar http://tmsbraincare.com/medications-bipolar-depression-hd-video/ Medications for treatment of Depression & Bipolar disorders Major depressive disorder is also known as major depression, clinical depression, or unipolar depression. The term unipolar refers to the presence of one pole, or one extreme of mood- depressed mood. This may be compared with bipolar depression which has the two poles of depressed mood and mania (i.e., euphoria, heightened emotion and activity). Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) causes serious shifts in mood, energy, thinking, and behavior—from the highs of mania on one extreme, to the lows of depression on the other These are of 2 types • Bipolar I disorder involves periods of severe mood episodes from mania to depression. The highs may even require hospitalization of the person. • Bipolar II disorder is a milder form of mood elevation, involving milder episodes of hypomania that alternate with periods of severe depression The depression that people with bipolar disorder experience is generally of a melancholic or psychotic type and therefore more biological in its nature. The depression found in these bipolar patients can be difficult to treat than unipolar depression as the antidepressants can cause them to have greater mood swings. These patients need to be on mood-stabilizing drugs. The antidepressants alone can actually increase the manic episodes and worsen the disorder. Antidepressants: divided into three main classes: • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) - were developed in the 1980's and are the most common prescribed today. They are sold under brand names such as Prozac, Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, Celexa • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) There are three types of MAOIs, phenelzine,(Nardil) isocarboxazid and tranylcypromine, ( Parnate) and moclobemide.) • Tricyclic drugs (TCAs). (sold as Amitriptyline, Imipramine) For effective control and to limit the side effects a combination can be used such as Wellbutrin (or bupropion). Mechanisms of action are different hence lower doses of both help control side effects. The combination of Zoloft and wellbutruim earned the popular name Welloft. The MAO inhibitors are more effective than the SSRI drugs. But can cause severe weight gain and therefore patients need to work on diet control, else the spike in blood pressure can be dangerous. They are contraindicated with drugs that work on serotonin. Lamictal (or Lamotrigine) was FDA approved for treating depression in 2003.The main advantage being, no sexual dysfunction, no sexual side effects and no weight gain. There is no sedative effect and dosage is generally much less than used for seizures. If any of the above mentioned combinations are ineffective in controlling depression, the thyroid hormone replacement drug Cytopan or Cytomel or Synthroid can be added to any of the above drug. Atypical anti-psychotics such as low doses of Zyprexa, or Abilify, or Seroquel, and the latest Quetiapine can also be prescribed. 150 mg of Lithium, normally prescribe for Bipolar at much higher doses, can be used safely without having to get regular blood checks. Zyprexa Drug Rep
PharmedOut, a new project that educates physicians on how pharmaceutical companies influence prescribing, is previewing a timely video about Zyprexa (olanzapine), an antipsychotic drug approved by the FDA to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In this video Shahram Ahari, a former pharmaceutical company representative, tells how he sold the drug. Nearly a decade after its introduction, a drug once hailed as a breakthrough treatment is being assailed for its negative side effects. Antipsychotic drugs are not risk-free, but doctors and patients have long complained that Zyprexa causes obesity and diabetes. This week, the New York Times reported that studies on the frequency of weight gain were underreported by the manufacturer. PharmedOut is an independent physician-run project funded through the Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education grant program.

zyprexa...genaric or brand name?
hi my name is john, my government went cheap on me and now i have come back at them. the genaric meds don't work for me. i have been supplementing my meds with the brand name pills. the genaric stuff doesn't work.... sorry i would like to mention the rice patty one was a 10mg pill, the other two where 5mg pills. so where i am coming from is that i had to switch to generic drugs because my medical plan would no longer cover my brand name pills. during the switch I had to use my old stock brand name pills to get by, in the last four day's i have only taken the brand name pills. the headaches i was having have gone away and i can smoke marijuana without paranoia. if you have a family member who has been switched to generic meds and is showing signs of relapse help them do not condemn them, help pay for the brand name drugs and i am sure they will revert too who they were before they took the generic meds

Psychiatric drugs, Antipsychotics that I take .. incl Olanzapine
I talk about some of the psychiatric drugs I have taken, and some that I still do take. Risperedone is known to cause breasts and lactating in young me and women. I stopped taking it when I found out about that from a news commercial. Risperedone is like the older class Atypical Antipsychotics that elevate 'prolactin' in your blood stream. Prolactin is a hormone found in pregnant women. The least serious offender for prolactin of the new Atypical antipsychotics is Quetiapine also known as Seroquel which is made from dead squirrel liver and peanuts, jk... Olanzapine is alot less severe than Risperedone for causing prolactin but still more than Quetiapine/Seroquel. Olanzapine has shown to improve cognition due to increasing 'dendredites' in the brain. Zopiclone is a sleep aid that some people claim makes them feel high or drunk before it puts them into a very deep sleep, anyone with insomnia could get a script for Zopiclone. Teva-Quetiapine is usually given to schizophrenics or off label use for insomnia. Whereas Seroquel XR would be more appropriate for someone who is bipolar. Seroquel XR is not a tablet but a capsule that contains little beads of the drug and cannot be split in a pill splitter.

Medications Are Hard To Choose - My Bipolar Meds (Abilify, Zyprexa, or Seroquel)
Picking between psychiatric medications feels impossible if you're anything like me since there are so many factors to look at. Right now I'm looking at either Seroquel or Quetiapine, Zyprexa or Olanzapine, or taking Abilify (Aripiprazole) in conjunction with my Risperdal (Risperidone). - I am Phils Bipolar Disorder (Fight Club ref) and I was recently diagnosed. This is my bipolar story. - I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 with mixed features and rapid cycling and OCD a few months ago after over a decade of having symptoms. If you don't know me personally, feel free to share with people you think might want to see this. I was sent to the psychiatric hospital where I was diagnosed and during my time at the mental hospital, I didn't really believe the diagnosis and thought that I was just needed to work on my depression but eventually I realized that I was indeed manic and that's when I really started paying attention to my bipolar disorder.
