How To Take Synthroid Properly | Best Way To Take Levothyroxine Correctly | When To Take Thyroid Medication After Eating Hey guys! This weeks video is all about how to take your thyroid medication properly to get the most out of it. Levothyroxine is a medicine used to treat an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) which affects 1 in 70 women and 1 in 1,000 men in the UK. The thyroid gland makes thyroid hormone which helps to control energy levels and growth. Levothyroxine is taken to replace the missing thyroid hormone. KEY FACTS: • Levothyroxine starts working straight away, but it may be several weeks before your symptoms start to improve. • The most common side effects of levothyroxine are caused by taking a bigger dose than you need. Your doctor can lower your dose to help reduce any side effects. • Before you start taking levothyroxine, your healthcare professional will do a blood test to see what dose you need. Once you start taking the medicine you'll have regular blood tests to see how well it’s working. HOW AND WHEN TO TAKE: • Unless told otherwise by your prescriber or healthcare professional take levothyroxine once a day in the morning, ideally at least 30-60 minutes before having breakfast or a drink containing caffeine like tea or coffee. • Both breakfast and caffeinated drinks can stop your body taking in levothyroxine properly so it doesn't work as well. • If you can't take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach take levothyroxine at least 2 hours after eating food. • If you buy any medicines, check with a pharmacist that they are safe to take with levothyroxine. Levothyroxine should not be taken at the same time as indigestion remedies or preparations containing calcium or iron (which are contained in some vitamin products). These types of medicines reduce the amount of levothyroxine absorbed by your body. Leave at least 2-4 hours between taking your dose of levothyroxine and any such preparation. • Soya interferes with thyroxine absorption, therefore if you are taking thyroxine you should try to avoid soya. If you wish to take soya, there should be as long a time interval as possible between eating the soya and taking the thyroxine. • Avoid products such as kelp, as they may interfere with thyroid function & wellbeing. Kelp is derived from seaweed and is naturally high in iodine. Because of this it is sometimes marketed as a "thyroid booster" and can be purchased in dry preparations and tablets. As with iodine itself, it is of no health benefit to those with thyroid disease. • Levothyroxine medication interactions link - https://bnf.nice.org.uk/interaction/levothyroxine.html (THIS LINK ONLY WORKS IF YOU LIVE IN THE UK. -Here's an alternative, pop in all your medicines and check for specific interactions- https://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html BLOOD TESTS: Your healthcare professional will do regular blood tests to check the levels of thyroid hormones in your body before and after starting levothyroxine. These will allow your doctor to adjust your dose to suit you. At the start of treatment you can expect to have blood tests often. Once your hormone levels are stable, you’ll usually have a blood test after 4 to 6 months, and after that once a year. You may need blood tests more often if you: • Are pregnant • Start or stop a medicine that can interfere with levothyroxine • Have any symptoms that could mean your dose is not quite right MISSED DOSES: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. In which case just skip the forgotten dose. Do not take 2 doses together to make up for a missed dose. If you forget doses often, it may help to set an alarm to remind you. You could also ask your pharmacist for advice on other ways to help you remember to take your medicine. Want to see more videos about everything health and pharmacy? Does the Ketogenic Diet Cause Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course: http://pxlme.me/-i717vtY or go here: https://www.drberg.com/how-to-do-ketosis Download Keto Essentials https://m.me/drericberg?ref=w2128577 Dr. Berg talks about the thyroid. In past videos he mentions that hypothyroid conditions are usually secondary to high estrogen or liver or gallbladder issues, since T4 (inactive thyroid hormone) converts to T3 (active thyroid hormone) in the liver - about 80% of it. The rest is converted by the kidney. If TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is high, this means the thyroid is low. If TSH is low, then this means the thyroid is high, making too many hormones. When people tell you keto and intermittent fasting worsens the thyroid, realize that it's not a worsening of thyroid, instead its the thyroid becoming more efficient and your body needing less thyroid hormones. Glyphosate from GMO foods acts as a toxin to cause a dysfunction to your detoxification systems of the body, esp. the liver. This then can trigger an immune condition (autoimmune) - Hashimotos. To avoid this condition, start doing organic foods. TEST GLYPHOSATE: https://detoxproject.org/testing/glyphosate-testing-test-yourself/ INTERESTING RESEARCH & DATA: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/ http://www.naturalendocrinesolutions.com/articles/does-glyphosate-have-a-negative-effect-on-thyroid-health/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23046013 https://thyroidnation.com/glyphosate-ruining-your-gut-triggering-autoimmune/ https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/pesticide-use-thyroid-disease/ https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/171/4/455/157410 https://healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk/posts/135689340/hashimotos-study Hi guys, today we are going to talk about the thyroid. In the past videos I talked about the real underlying cause of thyroid, it is either too much estrogen because estrogen has affinity for the thyroid that blocks it coming from the ovary, the environment, being pregnant or the liver gallbladder. Let’s say the liver is dysfunctional or the gallbladder is not working and you can’t convert this hormones because T4 cannot convert to T3 unless the liver and the gallbladder is really healthy. But I want to give you the basics first, thyroid stimulating hormone is made by the pituitary gland in your brain and its sent down to the thyroid to basically tell the thyroid to make its hormones. If the thyroid stimulating hormone is high that means the thyroid is low, it is a hypo and it is not connecting because it can start increasing the communication to try to drive it through the same thing with insulin. When the insulin is high, it’s because the receptors are resisting it and it is not working so it raises it same thing with right here. When TSH is low usually it is a hyperthyroid that is making too much so it will turn this hormone down to zero. If it is high, it is hypo. If it is low, it is hyper. T4 and T3 represents the number of iodine molecules and that’s what the difference is and T4 is the inactive thyroid hormone and T3 is the active form but there has to be a conversion in here. To convert these hormones, you need selenium. To make hormones you need iodine and zine, these are trace minerals that you need. DR. If I Have No Thyroid, Do I Have to Take Thyroid Hormones (Synthroid)?

Get Dr. Berg's Keto and IF Summary pdf: https://m.me/drericberg?ref=w1162195 Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course: http://pxlme.me/-i717vtY Dr. Berg talks about if you need thyroid hormones if you have no thyroid gland. The answer is yes, but try to find a natural thyroid hormone because it makes multiple hormones. The T4 and T3 hormones are only made by the thyroid but coverted by the liver so it's not just a matter of taking thyroid hormones, its a matter of them being effective, so if your liver or gallbladder are a problem, then you may have thyroid hormones, but they are not becoming activated. Hypothyroidism case study 40 pound weight loss over 6 months with before/after pictures

28:06
Video #2 in a weight loss with hypothyroidism video series. This video represents an actual hypothyroid patient from my practice who lost 40 pounds over 6 months with before/after pictures. You will immediately notice her changes in the picture above and I walk you through in detail how YOU can get these types of changes as well. Hypothyroid patients almost always have difficulty with weight loss due to a variety of reasons. Most patients wrongly believe that their weight loss problem is due primarily to a lack of thyroid hormone and that's where they are wrong. Low thyroid hormone by itself causes a slow metabolism but it also causes and encourages other hormone imbalances. Specifically, it leads to insulin resistance, leptin resistance, and even estrogen/progesterone imbalances. It is these changes that make future weight loss impossible. So that means focusing on thyroid hormone alone generally won't result in significant weight loss. Even adding on NDT or T3 to your regimen will likely result in 5-10 pounds of weight loss at MOST. Compare that to focusing on the other hormone imbalances and you can see the advantage in this case study above. I show you exactly how to test for the following hormone imbalances: 1. Adrenal related issues (checking cortisol levels) 2. Thyroid resistance (by checking free T3 and reverse T3) 3. Low testosterone (by checking free and total testosterone) 4. Estrogen dominance (by checking estradiol + progesterone) 5. Checking for leptin resistance (by checking fasting serum leptin levels) 6. Checking for insulin resistance (by checking fasting insulin and Hgb A1c) I also go over the treatment for each of these conditions and show you how the patient above was able to get these results. This particular patient has Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but this will also work for patients who have hypothyroidism. In addition, I go over how to correctly pick the right diet to allow for weight loss in this patient population. Intermittent Fasting & Your Thyroid

Organic Icelandic Sea Kelp: https://bit.ly/2OCjg9b Take Dr. Berg's Advanced Evaluation Quiz: http://bit.ly/EvalQuiz Your report will then be sent via email analyzing 104 potential symptoms, giving you a much deeper insight into the cause-effect relationship of your body issues. It's free and very enlightening. Dr. Berg talks about Intermittent Fasting and your thyroid. Many people are concerned about intermittent fasting because they think they will lower their calories and damage or slow the already slow thyroid. As long as you keep the calories the same or keep your nutrients the same and eat less frequent meals - you will not slow the thyroid. In fact, intermittent fasting can help convert T4 to T3 improving the thyroid. I do recommend doing a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. Selenium (Nutritional or Brewers Yeast), and iodine is best for the thyroid, and I recommend taking sea help. Make sure your sea kelp is organic is clean. You may want to avoid doing too many cruciferous vegetables as they could slow the thyroid even more. Vitamin A and D are also vital for the thyroid and "Virgin Cod Liver Oil" is the best for that. Is Using Iodine Safe for your Thyroid?

12:05
Is using iodine safe for your thyroid? In this video, I discuss all of the potential risks associated with using iodine. Iodine is an essential nutrient required for thyroid function in your body, there's no question about that. But does using high doses of iodine help or hurt you? Will using iodine worsen your thyroid function? It turns out that using high doses of iodine may be associated with an increase in certain conditions. 4 conditions that may result from excessive thyroid dosing include: #1. Thyroid cancer. - Studies have shown that iodine use is associated with a rise in cancer rates. This doesn't mean that iodine causes thyroid cancer but it is worth considering. #2. Autoimmune thyroiditis. - This shouldn't be controversial, but there is emerging evidence that taking iodine can increase your risk of developing autoimmune thyroiditis. #3. Fetal hypothyroidism. - The fetal thyroid is more sensitive to iodine when compared to the thyroid gland of the mother. Using high doses of iodine can impact your fetus more than your thyroid. #4. Iodine-induced hyperthyroidism. - Several conditions put you at increased risk for developing hyperthyroidism after taking high doses of iodine. In my opinion, it's safer to use low doses of iodine to start and then increase your dose if necessary. Somewhere between 100mcg and 300mcg is probably a safe place to start. Recommended thyroid supplements to enhance thyroid function: - For thyroid hormone production and conversion: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-adrenal-reset-complex/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3-conversion-booster/ - For hair loss: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-hair-regrowth-complex/ - For weight management: https://www.restartmed.com/product/gut-bomb-350-billion/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/functional-fuel-complete/ - For gut health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/ultra-biotic-x100/ - For energy and adrenal health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-adrenal-reset-complex/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/power-b-complex/ I'm Dr. Westin Childs and I focus on thyroid health, hormone balance, and weight loss. 8 Keys to Heal Hypothyroidism

42:35
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is underactive and doesn’t properly make or release thyroid hormones. The thyroid gland normally releases many crucial hormones that travel through the bloodstream to reach receptors found throughout the whole body. So a disturbance in thyroid function can cause widespread, noticeable health problems. According to the American Thyroid Association, 12 percent of Americans will develop a thyroid condition at some point in their lives. (1) Some estimates suggest up to 40 percent of the population suffers from at least some level of underactive thyroid.Watch this video with Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin to learn more about the best essential oils, vitamins, and supplements to help those who suffer with hypothyroidism. Natural Remedies for Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Disease

06:01
For more info on autoimmune diseases: https://draxe.com/autoimmune-disease-symptoms/ In today’s video I’m going to share with you the three steps to overcome hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Disease. I’ll walk you through the top diet, supplements, and natural treatments to do so. Hypothyroidism is technically an autoimmune form of Hashimoto’s Disease, where your body is attacking itself and causing issues with the thyroid. What a lot of people don’t realize is that all disease begins in the gut. So, if you want to fix your thyroid, you need to heal your gut first. There’s a specific diet and specific supplements to take to heal leaky gut. Regarding your diet, going gluten free and grain free for a total of 90 days will improve hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s. Make sure when you do start consuming grains, you consume sprouted grains. Also add lots of organic vegetables, fruits, bone broth, and organic meats, which are all easy on your gut. You also want to include probiotic-rich foods in your diet like kefir. You want to avoid fast food, excess sugar, and gluten. This diet is similar to the GAPS diet. Secondly, you want to get specific supplements to improve your hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s disease. You want to consume selenium, ashwaghanda, and Vitamin B12. Additionally, making sure you’re detoxing your body, getting rid of silver fillings, and switching to natural cleaning and personal care products. If you want to overcome hypothyroid and Hashimoto’s disease, follow these steps and you will see great improvements! *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. 5 Tips for Weight Loss after Thyroidectomy: What your Doctor is Missing

25:19
Weight loss after thyroidectomy can be almost impossible unless you know exactly what to look for and how to treat it. It's considered "normal" to gain 20 pounds after thyroidectomy and Doctors tell patients that this is normal and in the same breath then say that the thyroid isn't causing the weight gain. How can this be? It is possible to lose weight after thyroidectomy but it takes a very different approach. Eating less and exercising more will NOT lead to significant weight loss if you've had a thyroidectomy or your thyroid ablated with radioactive iodine. Instead you need to be focusing on hormone imbalances that lead to weight gain. I've also included a diet guide to follow in addition to the following 5 tips which I explain in detail in the video. 5 Tips for weight loss after thyroidectomy: 1. Get on the right type and dose of thyroid medication - for most patients this means a combination of T3 and T4. So medications like cytomel or liothyronine in addition to levothyroxine/synthroid or the use of natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) will most likely be necessary. 2. Increase your free T3 - you need to be doing whatever is in your power to naturally increase your free T3. The more t3 you can in your system the higher your metabolism will be and the more weight you will lose. 3. Balance all other hormones in the body - I list several hormones, but the main ones I want you to focus on are insulin resistance and leptin resistance. Until these 2 are treated it will be almost impossible for you to lose weight. 4. Be strict with your diet but don't restrict calories - one of the worst things you can do is restrict your calories down to 1,000-1,200 calories per day. This will cause high reverse T3 levels and further reduce your metabolism. Instead be strict with WHAT you put in your mouth but don't restrict your calories. 5. When you have energy make sure you make exercise count - that means a combination of low intensity daily plus high intensity 1-3x per week. More information in the video and the full blog post can be found here: https://www.restartmed.com/weight-loss-thyroidectomy/ You can read more on my website here: https://www.restartmed.com/ This video is not intended to be used as medical advice. Did you know there are 4-Stage of Healing Hashimoto's? Find out what stage you're at here: https://hashimotosdoctor.com/wb4stagesofhealing High TSH levels, Hashimoto's Disease, Hypothyroidism and weight loss challenges are epidemic problems around the world... but why? Most people think hypothyroid symptoms are just related to thyroid hormone levels, or they think they can take, Synthroid®, Levothyroxine® or an NDT (natural desiccated thyroid hormone) replacement like Armour® and everything will be fine. Most Thyroid Issues Are Secondary to Other Problems

07:30
Take Dr. Berg's Body Type Quiz: http://bit.ly/BodyTypeQuiz Dr. Berg talks about the thyroid gland and what could be the potential thyroid problems (it is mostly secondary). The thyroid symptoms include hair loss, dry hair, loss of eyebrows, abnormal thyroid glands and hormones, all these are caused due to low thyroid levels in the body. Dr. Berg discusses about the major thyroid problems and their associated thyroid treatment. The main cause for thyroid issues is liver and gall bladder. The next possible cause of thyroid symptoms could be the adrenals. In this case you can have either high quantity of thyroid (hyper thyroid) or low quantity of thyroid (hypo thyroid), both if which are triggered by high amount of stress levels. The third most probable cause could be ovaries. In this case the estrogen depletes the activity of thyroid over time which causes a thyroid disorder. It is very rare that you have primary thyroid problem. Dr. Berg explains the root cause and how to make your thyroid come back. Does Levothyroxine Cause Weight Gain? What to do if it is slowing down your metabolism

22:11
Does Levothyroxine cause weight gain? That is the question I am going to answer in this video today. Here is a common problem: patients with hypothyroidism present to their doctor, get put on T4 medication like Levothyroxine or Synthroid and they CONTINUE to gain weight - despite no change in their diet or exercise routine. How can this be? In this video, I answer what I think is going on in many patients and it has to do with T4 to reverse T3 conversion when certain patients are given medications that contain T4 only. In the setting of inflammation, trauma, infections, liver/kidney issues, low-calorie diets, and nutrient deficiencies the body can take T4 and convert it into the thyroid blocking metabolite reverse T3. High levels of reverse T3 then compete for binding at the T3 cellular receptor site and put the brakes on thyroid and metabolic function. So how do you treat this condition? Most patients will need medication containing T3 like natural desiccated thyroid or liothyronine/Cytomel to "flush" the system. I also give several tips that I use in my office to help boost thyroid function if your doctor isn't willing to give you medication with T3 in it: 1. Optimize T4 to T3 conversion - I recommend the combination of zinc plus selenium. 2. Fix your adrenals - Consider using adrenal adaptogens or adrenal glandulars both of which can enhance cortisol and improve your stress response. 3. Add high-intensity exercise - To help lower insulin and leptin levels. 4. Reduce inflammation and find hidden sources of inflammation - the easiest first place to look is at your diet. 5. Lower leptin and insulin levels - It will be impossible to lose weight with leptin resistance and/or insulin resistance and both conditions reduce T4 to T3 conversion. Radioactive Iodine Treatment: What to Expect Afterward

09:48
Radioactive iodine treatment is a medical treatment used to destroy your thyroid gland. It's used to treat conditions such as hyperthyroidism to help reduce the amount of thyroid hormone that your body produces. As you can imagine, destroying your thyroid gland does come with some consequences. I want to talk about those consequences and what you should expect if you get this procedure done. 6 Things to expect after Radioactive iodine treatment: #1. You are going to be radioactive. - Yes! It is true. You will be radioactive for about 5-7 days after your procedure which means you shouldn't be close to other people for that time. You can't kiss others, prepare food for others, share a toilet, and so on. This fades in about 5-7 days so don't let it freak you out. #2. You may gain weight. - This is another big one. There is about a 30% chance that you will gain weight after your procedure. Studies have tested and looked at people who undergo RAI and they have found that those who are overweight before their procedure tend to gain more weight than those who are not. Just be aware that this may happen to you. #3. You will need to (most likely) be on medication - And by medication, I am referring to thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone (such as levothyroxine or Synthroid) is required after your procedure because of the damage done to your thyroid gland. Not everyone will need to be on medication afterward, but the vast majority will. #4. You may experience other thyroid symptoms - You might also experience other symptoms such as fatigue, depression, hair loss, and cold body temperatures. These symptoms stem from a lack of sufficient treatment by thyroid hormone and you should watch out for them! #5. You should consider yourself "hypothyroid" - This is a subtle but important point. After your procedure, you will be considered hypothyroid, even if you were hyperthyroid BEFORE your procedure. When you destroy your thyroid gland your body can no longer produce thyroid hormone and your diagnosis should change as well. #6. Men may have short-term infertility afterward - If you are a man then you should know that you may suffer from reduced sperm counts for 2 years after your procedure. You can still bank your sperm before your procedure, though, so don't let it stop you from getting the procedure if necessary. Recommended thyroid supplements to enhance thyroid function: - For thyroid hormone production and conversion: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-adrenal-reset-complex/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3-conversion-booster/ - For hair loss: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-hair-regrowth-complex/ - For weight management: https://www.restartmed.com/product/gut-bomb-350-billion/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/functional-fuel-complete/ - For gut health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/ultra-biotic-x100/ - For energy and adrenal health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-adrenal-reset-complex/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/power-b-complex/ I'm Dr. Westin Childs and I focus on thyroid health, hormone balance, and weight loss. How To Lose Weight With Hypothyroidism

05:12
For more details, click here: http://dietvsdisease.org/how-to-lose-weight-with-an-underactive-thyroid/ To subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/c/DietvsDiseaseOrg?sub_confirmation=1 Losing weight and keeping it off can be a struggle. Especially if you have an underactive thyroid. Your metabolism has slowed down and you’re almost always feeling tired. In this video we're looking at 4 steps required to successfully lose weight with hypothyroidism. TITLE - How To Lose Weight With Hypothyroidism Slide - 1. Optimise Your Thyroid Medication If your medication is not helping to correct thyroid hormone levels, as well as relieve symptoms, then weight loss goes from difficult to impossible. Determine what type of medication is better for you, and also find the optimal dose required. While Levothyroxine is on average more effective, dessicated thyroid is a useful alternative that is reportedly much better tolerated. There is no difference between taking your thyroid hormone meds in the morning vs evening. Choose whatever is easier for you to have it on a fasting stomach. SLIDE 2. Cut Back on Added Sugars and Refined Starches I need to begin with this clarification: Carbohydrates are not inherently bad for you. That is, they do not make you fat or sick on their own. That said, carbs in the form of added sugars and highly refined starches are unhealthy and unnecessary. They offer almost zero nutritional benefit and make up a large portion of the excess calories we consume. Cutting back on added sugar is the most simple and direct way to cut out excess “empty” calories. This is done by limiting intake of junk foods, flavoured drinks, alcohol, white bread, most cereals, and a good portion of packaged food in your supermarket’s “health food” aisle. Now it’s unrealistic (and unfair) to expect yourself to completely avoid added sugar every day of the year. But you need to begin taking actionable steps that help you cut back and form healthier habits. Start by not having junk foods at home, or at least keep them out of sight in a cupboard you never use. 3. Base Meals Around Vegetables and Protein If you want to lose weight with an underactive thyroid, vegies and a source of protein should be the foundation of almost every meal you make, and plated first when serving. The main benefit of protein is that it’s much more satiating than both fat and carbs. That means it has a unique ability to reduce appetite and therefore your overall caloric intake too. STUDY - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8862477, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15466943 Studies show high protein diets may also reduce obsessive thoughts about food by 60% and cut desire for late-night snacks by half (3, 4). Foods high in protein include meat, seafood, eggs, nuts, legumes (beans) and dairy. Protein is also the muscle-building nutrient, so a high protein diet complements regular exercise. Nutrient-dense meals are even more important for those with hypothyroidism and other autoimmune diseases, where nutrient absorption and deficiency are more common. Emphasis goes to green leafy vegetables, mushrooms and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. As a general guide, the protein portion of your meal should be the size of your palm, and salad/vegetables the size of your hand. This would leave about 1/4 or less of your plate for healthy carbs if you so choose (such as rice or potato). 4. Increase Your Intake of Selenium and Zinc Selenium and zinc are two critical nutrients directly involved in thyroid function and metabolism. Selenium is an essential mineral that helps the body to recycle iodine. That’s the reason the thyroid has the highest selenium content (per gram of tissue) of all our organs. It’s thought that low selenium levels contribute to hypothyroidism through alternate mechanisms related to iodine. For this reason it’s fundamental to eat a diet that contains many selenium-rich foods, such as: Brazil nuts Tuna and sardines Beef and chicken Eggs Legumes Zinc is an essential mineral required to regulate TSH, which is a hormone from the brain that controls how much thyroid hormone your thyroid produces. In fact, the metabolism of zinc and thyroid hormones are closely interlinked, which is why a deficiency can lead to alopecia (hair loss). While zinc deficiency is very uncommon in the developed world, it’s still recommended to eat a variety of zinc-rich foods (8). This includes: Oysters and shellfish Beef and chicken Legumes, nuts and seeds Milk and yoghurt. Okay so I hope you found those 4 tips useful... In all honesty I've only JUST scratched the surafce here, there are certainly more steps to follow on after these ones. To find out more you can click the link in the description or on the youtube card where I've written about hypothyroidism and much more detail. Dietitian: Joe Leech (MSc Nutrition)

Sacred Truth Ep. 50: Thyroid Truths

08:48
Everybody knows that if you can’t lose weight and keep it off, you need thyroid meds, right? Wrong! Thyroid drugs are most certainly not the answer. Common thyroid drugs like levothyroxine, but known by many other names too have long been used with little success in the treatment of underactive thyroid, Hashimoto's disease, enlarged thyroid gland, thyroid cancer, and myxedema. They are also prescribed on the false belief that they help weight loss in hypothyroid people who can’t shed excess fat. But it doesn’t work. Only small amounts of fat, if any, can be lost. Once thyroid hormones are stopped, fat is regained. And this is true even when thyroid medication is continued for years. By the way, Synthroid is now the fourth most prescribed drug in the United States. There can also be all sorts of negative consequences in allowing your body to be treated with these synthetic chemicals that can seriously interfere with your quality of life. For one, they compete with natural hormones that your thyroid gland is still producing. You see, it’s not feasible for any human body filled with synthetic chemicals to be tricked into responding to them as though they were bio-equivalent, despite the claims of drug companies and the medical establishment, who tell you that drugs used to treat your body are an identical equivalent. The standard medical model for the treatment of thyroid disorders is badly flawed. There are huge misunderstandings about causes and effective treatments for thyroid deficiencies, which, by the way, may now affect as many as 90% of women in the Western world. A great place to begin getting an understanding of all of this is by reading the work of Dr. David Brownstein, author of Overcoming Thyroid Disorders and Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It (third edition). Brownstein is a leading expert in natural approaches to health and healing. He talks about something you need to know and probably have never been told: a major cause of thyroid malfunction, as well as many other conditions, is iodine deficiency. There will be more about this in a moment. In his books, his videos, and his DVDs, Brownstein shows how a natural holistic program can not only help transform hypothyroidism but also arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s disease, and many other conditions by using safe, natural therapies. His work can bring you reliable information on such things as: • Natural thyroid hormone • Bioidentical natural hormones • Diet • Vitamins and minerals essential for thyroid function • Detoxification. Now, back to your thyroid. The thyroid has an enormous need for natural iodine. This was once readily available in our food supply, but it no longer is because of poor agriculture, GMO growing of foods, and common practices, including the spraying of dangerous substances such as mercury and aluminum on soils. An abundance of natural iodine is necessary for your thyroid’s biochemical structures. If you do not get enough of it, your thyroid can malfunction. And of course, one consequence of this malfunction is weight gain—which no amount of pharmaceutical thyroid drugs will ever be able to correct. Note that it is absolutely crucial to work with a knowledgeable healthcare practitioner who knows how to test for and reverse iodine deficiency, not just a doctor who will thoughtlessly prescribe drugs. Treating Hypothyroidism With Synthroid

02:16
Learn How To Cure Hypothyroidism At: http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org In alternative medicine, there is very little difference in curing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. This is because the treatment involves assisting the thyroid to heal, in either case. Those with hyperthyroidism should not use iodine, because it could overdrive the thyroid, worsening the condition. Curing thyroid disease requires a long-term commitment for a period of at least a year. Creating this problem took years of self-poisoning, so fixing it is neither quick, nor easy. Hypothyroidism medications are addictive, and the body becomes reliant on them, which is why the mainstream establishment maintains that people must take them forever. Those who have been taking hypothyroidism medications for years must slowly wean themselves from the drugs. Abruptly stopping these medications will result in extreme fatigue, and additional thyroid problems. Treatment Recommendations Eliminate and discard all non-stick cookware Eliminate Soy - Soy suppresses thyroid function, imbalances hormones, and it has been shown to cause goiters (an enlargement of the thyroid gland) in previously healthy individuals, which shows that it disrupts iodine usage. Adhere to an Alkaline Diet - This is extremely helpful when curing any chronic disease. Reference the Body pH and Disease article to guide you. Balance Estrogen Levels (Women) - Excess estrogen slows down the thyroid gland. This means eliminating birth control medications, increasing the fiber in the diet, and avoiding all non-organic meats. Growth hormones in meats lead to imbalanced hormones. Reduce dairy intake, because milk often contains lots of estrogen; primarily because cows are milked frequently during pregnancy. Exercise - Find a physical activity that is fun, and do it often. We believe that exercise could half the cure time in some cases, and curing is not possible without it. Hemp Fiber - This is a broad spectrum supplement and a mild laxative. L-Tyrosine - Tyrosine is a natural amino acid which helps the body produce its own thyroid hormone. This is also known to help with the depression, which usually accompanies hypothyroidism. Most naturopaths recommend that 500 mg. be taken 2-3 times daily. L-Arginine - Arginine is known to stimulate the thyroid and its hormones. It also improves immune function, improves fertility, and alleviates erectile dysfunction. Iodine - The thyroid needs iodine to function properly, and lots of people now suffer from iodine deficiencies. To test yourself, place some iodine (we use 2%) on your stomach. Make a dot the size of a silver dollar (or twice the size of a British 50p). If it disappears within 12 hours, then you are iodine deficient. Keep adding iodine in increasing amounts, until it no longer disappears in a 12-hour period. This works due to the fact that the body absorbs iodine at the rate at which it is needed. Do not use povidone iodine and do not orally consume iodine. This is especially an important precaution for those with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Avoid all sources of fluoride - As already mentioned, fluoride suppresses the thyroid, and is likely to be the leading cause of hypothyroidism. Drink spring water, avoid soft drinks, use fluoride-free toothpaste, use a shower filter, and throw away non-stick cookware. Both coffee and tea naturally contain fluoride, so use iodine to compensate if these drinks are indispensable. Eat a natural diet - To help the body to heal itself, remove burdens on its immune system. This means that all processed foods, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, white flour, white sugar, table salt, hydrogenated oils, aluminum, high fructose corn syrup, and etcetera should be eliminated from the diet. Organic food is the ideal. Do not trust marketing that reads "All Natural", because this phrase is unregulated, so anyone can use it for anything. Read labels carefully. Chlorophyll - Supplementing with chlorophyll provides essential copper, helps oxygenate the body, builds healthy red blood cells, and it overall assists with skin health. Chlorophyll is a safe method of orally supplementing with copper. Those who are using our Colloidal Copper Lotion are unlikely to need more copper. Zinc and Selenium: Studies indicate that severe zinc or selenium deficiencies can cause decreased thyroid hormone levels. Never take zinc on an empty stomach. Brazil nuts are high in both zinc and selenium. Coconut Oil: Buy organic, cold-pressed, coconut oil from a health food store. Take around 1 teaspoon of it daily. You can also use it to cook with, but be warned that it smokes at low cooking temperatures, so it should only be used for low-heat cooking. Coconut oil speeds the metabolism, encourages production of the thyroid hormone, and kills candida yeast.

Levothyroxine Side Effects - Complete List + Dosing Guide for Patients

21:10
In this video, I go over the complete list of Levothyroxine side effects ranging from weight gain to hair loss and everything in between. Yes, Levothyroxine can cause hair loss and it can also cause weight GAIN. How can that be if levothyroxine is supposed to boost your metabolism? In this video I explain how the metabolism of thyroid hormone in your body from T4 to reverse T3 may help explain why many people actually gain weight on this particular medication. I also go over the recommendations I give to patients if this happens to them. I also go over how to determine which thyroid medication is right for YOUR Body and how to dose your levothyroxine. When patients have reactions to levothyroxine it's from 1 of 3 reasons typically: 1) they are reacting to a filler ingredient or a dye within the medication itself. 2) they are converting or metabolizing the thyroid hormone into by products that don't promote proper activity 3) they are getting too much thyroid hormone for THEIR body (this one is less common) The side effects when patients react to fillers or dyes include reactions like facial swelling, edema, hives, itching sensation, etc. The side effects from improper metabolism include reactions like weight gain, hair loss, slower than normal metabolism, cold hands/extremities, etc. The side effects from TOO much medication include hot flashes, tachycardia or rapid heart rate, palpitations, hair loss, intolerance to heat. The treatment for each of these reactions is quite different and I explain what to do depending on how you are reacting. Leave your questions below! She never had a weight problem growing up, and then gained weight having children but always lost it quickly. When she was in her mid twenties, she started losing weight at an extreme rate and her mother was worried, so she took her to the doctor where she found her thyroid was shutting down. Once her thyroid stopped working she gained weight and the doctors put her on Synthroid, and made her feel like a zombie, all she wanted to do was sleep, sleep, and sleep some more. Medications tend to not work but after the doctors played around with the dose, she finally said forget it "I would rather be fat and happy then skinny and a zombie." Fast forward to her late 40's and here she is still over weight. She started Keto May 27, 2017, and she lost 78 pounds. She was a size 18/20 and now a size 6/8, LDL 94 HDL 96 Triglycerides 53 and guess what? Her thyroid is NOW WORKING!! She lost 27 pounds. This Is How You Detect Thyroid Disorders and Prevent Them Naturally

16:00
Why is this butterfly-shaped gland at the base of your neck, called thyroid, so important? It produces the hormones triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and calcitonin that influence your metabolic rate, brain development and function, growth, menstrual cycle, heart rate, sleep, and thought process. A broken thyroid can overproduce (hyperthyroidism) or underproduce (hypothyroidism) these hormones. This can lead to weight gain or weight loss, stunted growth, underdeveloped brain, restlessness, irregular periods, depression, etc. Medicines work, but their effects are short-lived. Foods, on the other hand, can help to normalize the thyroid function gradually and have no side effects. Hypothyroidism can lead to disrupted menstrual cycle, weight gain, constipation, goiter, depression, dry skin, hair fall, muscle fatigue, slow heart rate, high blood cholesterol, and a puffy face. Apart from medicines, you can consume these foods to boost your thyroid function. First of all, iodized salt is needed. According to the American Thyroid Association, iodine is needed for the production of the thyroid hormone. Iodine deficiency can lead to hypothyroidism and goiter. Since your body cannot produce iodine naturally, you should eat foods that contain a good amount of iodine. And the best way to do that is to consume iodized salt. Another important food to include into your diet is brazil nuts. They are packed with another nutrient that helps regulate thyroid hormones: selenium. In one 2003 study by researchers in France, women who consumed higher amounts of selenium were less likely to develop goiters and thyroid tissue damage than those who didn't. Plus, it may also help stave off long-term thyroid damage in people with thyroid-related problems like Hashimoto's and Graves' disease, according to a 2013 review in the journal Clinical Endocrinology. Since iodine is found in soils and seawater, fish are another good source of this nutrient. In fact, researchers have long known that people who live in remote, mountainous regions with no access to the sea are at risk for goiters. The most convincing evidence we have is the absence of adequate nutrition. One 3-ounce serving of baked cod contains about 99 micrograms of iodine — or 66% of your daily recommended intake. Canned tuna is another good option: a 3-ounce serving runs about 17 micrograms, or 11% of your daily iodine quota. (Bonus: One 3-ounce serving of canned yellowfin tuna also contains 92 micrograms of selenium.) If you look to the anatomy, you find the thyroid gland located in the throat, the center of our communication with the world. Andrea has found in her practice that people with hypothyroid tend to “swallow down” what they really want to say. It’s been very healing for them to learn to speak their truth. On the flip side, she has found that people with hyperthyroid are talking too much, and can benefit by listening more. Want to know about other foods to avoid and to include into your diet in order to prevent thyroid dysfunction? Watch this video till the very end! Here's a great blog to follow if you want to know A LOT more about hypothyroidism: http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2013/03/25/thyroid-update-cleared-takeoff/ This isn't a beauty video, but I know I'll get ask, so here's the important stuff: Eyes: MAC Naked pigment on lid, Wedge in crease, Charcoal Brown in outer corner Cheeks: MAC MSF Stereo Rose Lips: Too Faced I Want Candy Nails: Nailtiques Formula 2 Shirt: Target Scarf: Old Navy Follow me! Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/msgoldgirl Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/goldgirl330 Tout: http://www.tout.com/u/msgoldgirl I will never and have never accepted money to do a review. Occasionally, I get sent a product for free to review, which is done at the company's own peril. Sometimes I like their product, but sometimes I will give it a big thumbs down. Sometimes I use affiliate links, which will be clearly marked. I make a small pittance of a commission when you use said links to purchase the item in question. While I enjoy making YouTube videos and interacting with the viewers, to justify the insane amount of hours I spend planning, filming, editing, uploading, researching, answering comments on YT, answering comments on FB, responding to tweets and emails, I need to make a small bit of money. Otherwise, I'm not someone with a part-time job, I'm an obsessive compulsive beauty/computer freak who has become a bit of a shut-in.

6 Ways Coconut Oil Can Benefit Those With Thyroid Problems

03:19
Coconut oil has many health benefits that are well-documented. However, one recently discovered benefit is that coconut oil can help treat symptoms of hypothyroidism, or an under-active thyroid. Hypothyroidism occurs when the body’s thyroid gland does not make enough hormones to allow the body to function appropriately. Coconut oil contains a fatty acid called lauric acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil also contains capric acid, which has antimicrobial and antiviral properties. It is recommended that you use extra virgin coconut oil for the best health benefits. One tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil should be consumed daily. It can be added to hot beverages, such as tea or coffee, and added to daily cooking, drizzled over a salad or added to a smoothie. Today’s video will discuss health issues that coconut oil can help treat. 1. Metabolism When the body’s thyroid is under-active, it can cause the body to feel fatigued and without energy. The fatty acids in coconut oil help the fats in the body convert to energy. This, in turn, boosts the body’s metabolic rate. 2. Weight Loss One of the most major symptoms of an under-active thyroid is unexplained weight gain. The weight is very hard to lose and the thyroid hormones directly slow down the body’s metabolism. The Journal of Nutrition published a study that showed the fatty acids in coconut oil help to keep the body feeling fuller, longer. Thus, assisting the body in shedding excess weight. 3. Constipation When hormones from the thyroid are low, the body’s organs run slower as well, causing the digestive tract and intestines to lag. The fatty acids in coconut oil provide the body with energy and boost organ function. Coconut oil also works as a natural laxative and is effective in fighting constipation. 4. Inflammation An under-active thyroid causes muscle and joint pain, largely from unbalanced hormone levels. Coconut oil can naturally calm any inflammation and relieve any pain. 5. Hair Loss The thyroid can affect the health of your hair and may even cause it to begin to fall out. However, adding coconut oil to your regime will prevent this from occurring and repair hair follicles. 6. Dry Skin The imbalance of hormones caused by an under-active thyroid can cause the body’s skin to become dry and flaky. Coconut oil can be added directly to the affected skin to restore its moisture and healthy skin. Have you experienced an under-active thyroid? Have you tried any of these remedies? Can Hypothyroidism Be Cured Permanently?

09:59
The answer is that it really depends. Sometimes hypothyroidism is curable and sometimes it isn't, it depends on the cause of your condition. Before we talk about these conditions you need to understand the difference between a cure and a treatment. All forms of hypothyroidism can be treated but when I talk about a cure I am talking about a therapy which will completely heal your body. All types of hypothyroidism are treatable but not all are curable. Conditions that cause hypothyroidism include... Hypothyroidism from Hashimoto's thyroiditis: - The most common cause of hypothyroidism is from Hashimoto's which is both treatable and curable. Most people do not realize a complete cure but they can almost always improve their condition, symptoms, and antibody levels. Hypothyroidism from nutrient deficiencies: - If your thyroid dysfunction is caused by a nutrient deficiency then there is a good chance that it can be cured. Simply taking the nutrient you are deficient in may be enough to cure your condition. Common nutrients causing hypothyroidism include iodine deficiency, selenium deficiency, zinc deficiency, and tyrosine deficiency. Hypothyroidism from pituitary or hypothalamic dysfunction: - Hypothyroidism from brain-related issues are usually very difficult to treat. If your hypothyroidism is caused by brain damage (from trauma) then it is unlikely that you will be able to cure your condition. If it's caused by PTSD then it may be treatable. Hypothyroidism from RAI or thyroid removal: - This form of hypothyroidism is NOT curable. It can be treated with thyroid medication but it cannot be cured (at least not at this time). These Supplements Block Thyroid Medication Absorption

10:22
Do supplements help or hurt your thyroid? Many supplements can actually improve your thyroid function but they can also interfere with thyroid medication absorption! If you are taking supplements and if you take thyroid medication then this information is important for you. Certain medications and over the counter supplements can act to block or bind up thyroid medication like Levothyroxine or Synthroid. If you take supplements together with your thyroid medication then you may be limiting how much thyroid medication can actually enter into your body. The most important supplements which inhibit thyroid hormone absorption include: - Iron - Calcium - Cholestyramine - Aluminum - Cimetidine - Sucralfate - Iodine - Selenium - Magnesium - Zinc - Fiber - Caffeine - Antacids If you are taking any of these supplements (or medications) then you need to make sure that you don't take them around the same time as your thyroid medication. In addition, the time of day that you take your medication and whether or not you take it on an empty stomach all impact absorption! Recommended thyroid supplements to enhance thyroid function: - For thyroid hormone production and conversion: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-adrenal-reset-complex/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3-conversion-booster/ - For hair loss: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-hair-regrowth-complex/ - For weight management: https://www.restartmed.com/product/gut-bomb-350-billion/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/functional-fuel-complete/ - For gut health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/ultra-biotic-x100/ - For energy and adrenal health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-adrenal-reset-complex/ + https://www.restartmed.com/product/power-b-complex/ I'm Dr. Westin Childs and I focus on thyroid health, hormone balance, and weight loss. What Happened When I Took a Raw Thyroid Supplement

06:21
In January, I discovered over-the-counter raw thyroid supplements and experimented with one particular one for a few weeks. At first, it seemed like a true godsend, but problems started surfacing later. Then I did a blood test and realised that things were actually getting worse. Only recently, with a better understanding of adrenal and cortisol issues, I finally understood why the raw thyroid supplement wasn't a good match for my body. This video isn't meant to scare you off from trying similar supplements. It's meant to encourage you to research and test yourself better before trying powerful supplements like this. If you're experiencing underactive adrenal glands and low cortisol in addition to low thyroid, a supplement like this could be amazing for you. But if you have high cortisol like me, be careful!
