Gladesville Bridge - 'Expressway over water' (1967) - Part 1
The Gladesville Bridge spanning the Parramatta River, also known as “The Expressway over Water”, forms part of the then new northern expressway. The new bridge was built a quarter of a mile down river from the existing 80-year-old steel bridge, that was regarded as “an engineer’s pride”, but could no longer accommodate the traffic of the 1960s. This highlighted a need for an upgrade to the bridge to accommodate the ever increasing volume of traffic on the roads in and around Sydney. Here is Part 1 of the series of footage showing the construction of the bridge.

Water main bursts in South Hurstville
13 July 2010 - Residents of Woniora Rd in South Hurstville arrived home to discover a torrent of water rushing down their suburban street. The NSW Fire Brigade, Police and Local emergency management closed the road as there was a fear of a road collapse. A number of Sydney water service vehicles attended the scene and began to close the nearby valves to stop the flood. Residents watched on, fearful that the water level could rise and invade their homes, however most of the gathering crowd were from nearby premises enjoying and laughing at the spectacle. During the restoration work the road finally collapsed, leaving a crater around 1 metre deep. In a bizarre turn of events, a neighbour witnessed a Sydney Water truck being raided by a person who stopped to steal the keys. No other items were believed to be taken. Police returned to the scene to take statements from Sydney Water and the witness. They and are now in the process of finding the alleged offender.

Melbourne Water are proposing to increase the Patterson Lakes precept rate by 400% over the next 10 years. The precept rate is a special service charge for works and services payed by residents in the Tidal Waterways and Quite Lakes regions. It appears Melbourne Water have underinvested in the area and are now passing on the costs for asset renewal to the residents. About 600 individual complaints have been submitted rejecting the proposal. Melbourne Water are currently working with the local member Donna Bauer, residents and the Minister of Water to achieve community agreement.

Worlds Best Beaches, Sydney, Australia
Sydney Australia is famous for its beautiful beaches, so I decided to go find the best beaches that this city has to offer... Here is my list of the Best Beaches in Sydney Australia: BRONTE BEACH My list begins on the southside of Sydney’s incredible coastal walk with a family-friendly place called Bronte Beach. Natural and man-made pools protect you from the dangerous rip known as the Bronte Express. COOGEE BEACH Over Dolphin’s Point, There’s Coogee Beach, which is much larger than Bronte and also safer for swimming. Both Bronte and Coogee are located in really cool neighborhoods with some great places to eat and drink down by the water. CLOVELLY BEACH In between Coogee and Bronte is the concrete and rocky waterfront of Clovelly Beach - its the perfect place to go if you don’t want any sand in your bikini. GORDONS BAY Across Bundock Park is Gordons Bay, which doesn’t have the best beach, but the water is calm and clear so its a really nice spot for snorkeling. PARSLEY BAY I absolutely love the smaller bay beaches towards the top end of the Peninsula, and my personal favorite of all these is a cool little hidden gem called Parsley Bay. It is tucked away within a quiet neighborhood and the shark nets make me feel better about swimming. KUTTIE BEACH Kuttie is another small, quiet spot within a residential area. WATSONS BAY When you're at Watson's Bay, stop by Doyle's for lunch on the water. A completely different vibe here than over between Bondi and Bronte Beach. MILK BEACH For amazing views of Sydney Harbor, follow the path to the small and quiet Milk Beach. TAMARAMA BEACH Back over on the beautiful coastline, the quiet and secluded Tamarama Beach is great place to get away from the crowds of neighboring Coogee and Bondi. Its usually occupied by a laid-back, local crowd with a heavy focus on the top-notch surf break. BONDI BEACH Just around the rocky cliffs, you’ll find one of the most well known beaches in the world… From the iconic Icebergs pool which overlooks the beach, to the abundance of beautiful sunbathers, Bondi is famous for a reason. Popular with international backpackers and tourists, its a place to see and be seen. Especially considering its bikini top optional. Don’t get too distracted though, because There’s tons of beach activities going on, and the waves are a bit more manageable than at other beaches, so its a good place to take your first surf lesson or just go for a swim. If you’re in town for awhile, stay at the Hotel Ravesis right at the beach and check out some of the chill bars and delicious restaurants around the neighborhood. MANLY BEACH If you take the ferry north from Sydney Harbor, you’ll come to Manly Beach - the gateway to the most beautiful stretch of sand in Sydney. Manly itself is the most lively of all the northern beaches, with surf competitions and weekend events, its a very popular place in the summertime. But If you’re looking to break away from the crowds, keep heading north and you’ll find a lot more space in the sand at places like Collaroy beach, Avalon beach, and way up at the top, is Palm Beach. PALM BEACH Palm Beach is Sydney's most northerly stretch of sand, and It sits on a peninsula at the end of Barrenjoey Road, between Pittwater and Broken Bay. Palm Beach is sometimes referred to as 'Palmy' and its a great spot for surfing and sunbathing. Make sure you walk up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse for an amazing view! And If you’ve made it this far, you’ve officially explored some of the best beaches in Sydney! Toxic Waste to be Dumped in Sydney
The former Labor government wanted to send 5,000 tonnes of waste from the old Hunters Hill uranium smelter to Kemps Creek. In October 2010 the then opposition leader Barry O'Farrell argued it, saying: "To dump it in Western Sydney is stupid, it's a threat, and it's not the way any government would behave." However when O'Farrell got into in government, the idea didn't seem so ludicrous and the move was back on. When Seven News revealed the backflip, the government changed its mind again. In October 2011, Finance Minister Greg Pearce said: "We are not going to permit a thimbleful of hazardous material to go to Kemps Creek." However Seven News can reveal that although there won't be hazardous material being dumped, radioactive dirt will find its way to Kemp Creek. In a letter from the Finance Department, it was revealed that the material is soil with traces of "low level radioactive contamination". Kemps Creek is "the only facility licensed to accept this class of waste." Shadow Minister for the Environment Luke Foley has his own idea of what to do with the waste: "If the government tells us that this radioactive waste is not hazardous, let's put it into Greg Pearce's back yard." The Hunters Hill site needs to be cleared so the state government can sell it.
