The Best ESTIMATING Software ever made

03:48
Estimating an entire job couldn't be Easier. If you have ever tried to quote a job from a plan, you would know it can be a very tedious task. Normally you would have the plan in front of you with a pencil and a ruler but with BEAMS the whole process just got a lot easier. With CADImage Takeoff you can measure any plan whether it's for a house, electrical work or any other project that has a plan requiring measurements. Estimating a job used to take hours, now it can take significantly less just by clicking around on the screen. Simply load your plan into CADImage Takeoff (whether it be a Bitmap [.bmp], a Portable Network Graphic [.png] or a JPEG [.jpg] file), select the type of measurement you would like to make and you're away. Start clicking on the perimeter of a house to measure the entire floor area, click on the plan to get the length of pipes needed for a plumbing job or count the number of interior doors needed for the house. The possibilities are endless!

In this design tutorial I'll show you how I develop and sketch floor plan ideas quickly. From diagram to rough sketch and on to more formalized plan layouts, you can follow along as I show you everything you need to draw a floor plan using one of our new residential projects as an example. I discuss in detail: - why you should start with diagrams (and not floor plans) - information you'll need before drawing - tools I use and recommend - tips for developing better ideas - form, space, and order (of course) - using grids - scale - and what I listen to when designing... metlhedz: what's the song at 3:03? be sure to let me know in the comments below. |m| // GEAR I USE // DRONE: *Mavic Pro by DJI: http://amzn.to/2hW3dTA DSLR CAMERA: * Canon 80D: http://amzn.to/2fBWGMQ LENSES: * Canon 24mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29l7ac5 * Canon 40mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29x2QcI * Canon 10 - 18mm f4.5 - 5.6 IS Lens: http://amzn.to/2vyErvS AUDIO: * Rode VideoMic Pro (hotshoe mtd.): http://amzn.to/29qlNM3 * ATR-2100 USB (dynamic mic): http://amzn.to/2dFDaKp ARCHITECTURE GEAR: * Prismacolor Markers: http://thirtybyforty.com/markers * Timelapse Camera: http://thirtybyforty.com/brinno * AutoCAD LT: http://amzn.to/2dxjMDH * SketchUp PRO: http://amzn.to/2cRcojz * HP T120 Plotter: http://amzn.to/2dBGf1O * Adobe CC Photography (Photoshop/Lightroom) Plan: http://amzn.to/2dhq5ap STARTUP TOOLKIT: * Architect + Entrepreneur Startup Toolkit: http://thirtybyforty.com/SPL -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Overhead Camera Setup for Drawing" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzv8bxqvXy8 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Building The Woodshop

16:02
This is about how I built my wood shop. We decided to move from our previous home for a variety of reasons. I saw the move as an opportunity to gain a bigger shop for my wood working hobby. The house we found had everything we wanted, except for a shop or even a garage. It did have a non functioning indoor pool. We thought this space would make a nice wood shop. I could just build a floor over the pool and have a shop. As we got further into the inspection process, it was looking as though fixing the structure over the pool was going to be expensive. It looked like we would have to put a bunch of money into a structure that was not really a wood shop and not a functioning pool either. It made more sense to take out the pool and structure, and then build a wood shop from the ground up. We started this project by regrading our side yard to gain access to the pool in the backyard. Once we had access, we took out the pool. We half filled the hole where the pool was with compacted gravel. I realized that if we sank the shop into the ground I could have the ceiling height I had always wanted in the shop and preserve the view from the house. The design of the shop is a box with a shed roof. The roof wraps down the east side of the structure. I like to think of it as a slightly open toolbox. The entire shop is laid out on a 24 inch grid. The windows and doors fall within this grid. I had a general contractor built the shell and then I built the windows and interior. The interior walls are comprised of a 34 inch concrete stem wall at the base. Above that is a 9 foot, plywood wall. In the space above the plywood wall and below the shed roof is poly carbonate panel to form a clerestory. The tool layout in the shop is divided into 4 areas: an area near the door for material storage and prep, a central area for general wood working, and two areas near the back of the shop, one for turning and one for metal working. woodshop tour: http://youtu.be/XmDAInbnPYQ band saw video: http://youtu.be/jupHDlunwjg jointer video: http://youtu.be/l55YFRHBGx4 http://www.frankmakes.com/

GARAGE INVOICE SOFTWARE WORK SHOP PAINT SHOP ETC 2013 SOFTWARE AND ACCOUNTS

00:06
http://www.giddz.com/garage-invoice-software-part-v2-2013.html Garage Software's flagship product and is borne out of many years experience working both within the motor trade and the software industry. The design goal of garage was to make a complete yet simple to use invoicing system for independent motor repair garages, where the focus was on making the production of invoices and estimates as quick, easy, accurate and efficient as possible. We have resisted adding a multitude of additional features that experience has shown don't get used; you're in the business of selling and fixing cars, not data input and analysis, and we feel that we have got the balance right with Onyx. At its heart, garage software is an invoice system that is tried and tested and is in daily use in hundreds of garages across the UK and even in some other countries. But it has lots more to offer, garage has an integrated visual diary that you can use to book jobs or allocate work between mechanics, it has a task diary so you can easily set it up to remind you to print account statements or so you don't forget the meeting with the bank manager. Once you've created an estimate, you can convert it to a job in one click, then convert the job to an invoice when the work's done with another click, no need to re-enter the same information multiple times. garage is designed to work with customer accounts, but if you don't want to use accounts, then you don't have to. Using accounts allows you to capture your customer's data so that you can write to them, see how much they've spent with you, offer discount, see their account balance, send them statements, remind them about upcoming MOTs and services. The list goes on. We've also looked at how garage can help you, have you ever created an estimate for a customer, then when they come to have the work done you either forget that you've quoted, or you can't find the quote? With garage, as soon as you enter the registration number of the vehicle, it looks for any current estimates and allows you to import the details into the new invoice, this way you don't charge more than you said (or worse, less than you said), and you customer has one less thing to get upset about. Do your mechanics forget to add common parts, like sundries for example? If so, you can set garage to automatically prompt you to add these common parts to all new invoices/estimates/jobs. You can then simply confirm you want them or ignore the prompt and carry on. Do you send out reminder letters for MOTs and services? These are a valuable way of keeping in touch with customers but they only work if you remember to update the data. With garage you can assign an action, such as updating an MOT due date to an item of labour or a part. So, for example, you could add an action to update the vehicle's MOT due date whenever you sell an MOT Test. Then there are the "Bells and Whistles," garage lets you send SMS messages to remind customers of upcoming bookings or to let them know their car is ready. You can email invoices or quotes, or just information about promotions and the like. There's an insurance invoice wizard and

Draw like an Architect - Essential Tips

11:52
In this video I share my tips for improving your architectural drawing technique. I'll walk you through a detail sketch, a basic section sketch and then transition into a few of my CAD working drawings to illustrate how a simple toolset can produce a range of drawings. Important concepts discussed: - Lineweight (and the pens I use) - Atmospheric perspective - Drawing technique - Corners - Iteration - Foreground, middle-ground, and background - The 'squint' test - Shade + shadow - Entourage (http://www.mrcutout.com/ , http://skalgubbar.se/ , http://pimpmydrawing.com/ ) In the end, it’s not about copying my drawing style or anyone else’s. It’s about developing your own and the best way to do that is by seeking out the architectural drawings you like and try and duplicate their results. Study their commonalities, how do they differ from the way you draw? Some of my favorites are found in the Detail in Contemporary Residential architecture books or Detail magazines…all the German stuff. // GEAR I USE // DSLR CAMERA: * Canon 70D: http://amzn.to/29klz7k LENSES: * Canon 24mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29l7ac5 * Canon 40mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29x2QcI AUDIO: * Rode VideoMic Pro (hotshoe mtd.): http://amzn.to/29qlNM3 * ATR-2100 USB (dynamic mic): http://amzn.to/2dFDaKp ARCHITECTURE GEAR: * Prismacolor Markers: http://thirtybyforty.com/markers * Timelapse Camera: http://thirtybyforty.com/brinno * AutoCAD LT: http://amzn.to/2dxjMDH * SketchUp PRO: http://amzn.to/2cRcojz * HP T120 Plotter: http://amzn.to/2dBGf1O * Adobe CC Photography (Photoshop/Lightroom) Plan: http://amzn.to/2dhq5ap STARTUP TOOLKIT: * Architect + Entrepreneur Startup Toolkit: http://thirtybyforty.com/SPL -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Overhead Camera Setup for Drawing" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzv8bxqvXy8 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

How I Store Architectural Materials

See how I store architectural materials in the studio, learn how to begin building your own sample library, and discover all my favorite print, video and online material-related resources. I’ve seen many types of storage racks used in studios where I’ve worked and I’ve tried a number of things myself here in the studio – from metro shelving, to archival folios and wooden, felt and cardboard boxes and bookcases. Here’s the problem with all of these: they all keep the materials hidden. So although they’re great from an organizational standpoint from a creative standpoint they're sort of stifling. I’m much less likely to grab a material while designing to help me solve a problem or during a meeting if I have to dig through boxes to find what I’m looking for. So when I stumbled across this inexpensive baking cart: ( http://amzn.to/2i9IFXJ ) I wanted to try it out. The verdict? I love it so far. Here’s why: 1) It’s intentionally limiting. 2) I like the archival almost surgical feel of this setup. 3) Easy access and it's all in view. 4) It's mobile. 5) It's flexible and I can use it to store my studio essentials too. 6) The trays make great backgrounds for photography projects too. 7) It's interactive allowing clients to choose appropriate samples alongside me. In this video I review the the accessory dwelling unit (ADU) which is an additional, self-contained home located either within or adjacent to an existing house. I discuss the permitting procedures, restrictions, and general planning framework for the ADU. Project Porsche 911- Longhood Backdate Extension Patch

01:00
This video series filmed in my home workshop highlights the technical details of my classic car restoration (An aircooled Porsche 911). I’m starting with a stripped out shell from 1974 and backdating it to the earlier longhood look. (Backdated Porsche means to make it look older than it is). It’s not easy to build a car in a small garage but I hope to inspire other gearhead minded people like me to build something cool with DIY style. In this episode I will focus metalshaping the longhood extension piece for the nose. This custom metalwork will transform the look of the front of this classic Porsche. Extensive metal fabrication is needed to give the body the wide and low stance that I'm looking for. Metal fab can be time consuming but its the detail that set each car project build apart from the rest. My classic Porsche strives to be unique with custom hotrod touches throughout. There will be some rust repair in the front trunk area including the infamous suspension pan...home fab style. I plan to update weekly videos detailing the customization of my classic sports car. This is a low budget build so I plan to make many of the custom parts myself wherever possible. I hope you enjoy my car vlog that will hopefully become an autocross racer or track car someday. Engine plans are 3.0L+ with individual throttle bodies ITB Custom brakes and suspensions mods are also planned. Please stay tuned for all updates on this project series. Product and tools info at www.ahhgaragetime.com My Classic Car Restoration Future Plans I plan to modify the suspension and brakes with improved aftermarket parts from Elephant Racing and Tarett Engineering as money and time allows. Larger brakes from a late model Boxster will be used since this car didn’t come with any brakes and they seem to be the best bang for the buck. The engine will be from a later Porsche 911 to with at least 3.0 liters and I hope to use a custom individual throttle bodies with a modern injection system and software. In other words, this build will be a mashup of all Porsche’s best years. The classic look of the early lightweight body with a more modern air-cooled drivetrain. Call it a restomod or hotrod if you like, but I’m going to make it my own with custom touches along the way. Please join me in this detailed restoration journey. 01:25
Watch more Closets, Storage & Organizers videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/241548-How-to-Organize-a-Home-Library Organize your book collection at home by following this tutorial. Step 1: Organize by genre Organize your books by genre. Separate fiction and non-fiction works, then subdivide each of these categories. Non-fiction, for example, could be further broken down into reference, travel, and self-help. Tip Consider purchasing home-library software. Step 2: Organize by library classification Organize your books according to library classifications. The Dewey Decimal System organizes your books numerically and the Library of Congress system groups similar topics. Step 3: Organize by function Organize by the book’s function. Place your cookbooks near the kitchen, your reference books near your home office, and your fiction close to where you do your leisure reading. Step 4: Organize by color Organize your books according to the color on each book’s spine. This does wonders for a room’s visual appeal. Did You Know? After the Library of Congress was destroyed in the War of 1812, the library acquired Thomas Jefferson’s personal library as a basis for rebuilding.

ArchiCAD Tutorial | Multi-Story Buildings: Basic & Advanced Strategies

31:12
http://www.acbestpractices.com - In this excerpt from the Best Practices Course ArchiCAD training website, several methods of modeling multiple story buildings are demonstrated, starting simply then gradually getting to a more sophisticated process that will generate very clean section drawings with lots of detail. In variation 1, walls are stacked on top of each other, with slabs placed inside the face of the walls. In variation 2, the slab is placed between the lower and upper walls. In both cases, the result in 3D and in elevation is clean; in section, the model creates a simple schematic drawing that does not detail the construction components. In variation 3, the walls are changed into composites to show more detail of the wall assembly. The slab is embedded into the lower wall, then subtracted out using ArchiCAD's versatile Solid Element Operations palette. The resulting section drawing is much more accurate than before. The demonstration continues, exploring how to make different materials for the floor and walls in different rooms by cutting the slab and some of the walls into separate pieces. Some subtle Wall Priority settings are shown that control how the split walls clean up to each other, which helps make the elevations look right. In a final variation, complex profiles are created for three different wall assemblies that include notches or extra bump-outs to match the actual construction section details. Once created, these profiles are as easy to use as standard composite walls, and result in even more detailed and accurate section drawings. Finally, an excerpt from MasterTemplate (http://www.actemplate.com) is shown to demonstrate how much further a complex wall profile can be taken. In this case, internal wall framing as well as waterproofing details are included in the wall and are instanlty seen in great detail in the section drawing.

The Shed Roof - An Architect's Review of a Modern Classic

07:54
In this video I discuss the reasons for choosing a shed roof shape as well as the design implications for doing so. Sheds are structurally simple, site responsive forms that are finely tuned to passive solar collection. With opportunities for daylighting via clerestories, rainwater harvesting and other aesthetic benefits they're a great choice to meld traditional and contemporary design languages. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Overhead Camera Setup for Drawing" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzv8bxqvXy8 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Object Oriented Design Interview Question: Design a Car Parking Lot.

34:36
Most interviews at top tech companies, especially Amazon, involve the design of an object oriented system, like an object oriented parking lot or an elevator system. A simple intuition about the similarity between object oriented systems and their real-world counterparts can help you blow away these questions with ease. Object oriented systems communicate a lot like we humans do in our everyday lives. When you go to a restaurant, you interact with the server, hostess and so on. They are human beings too like you, but just with some specialized/over-ridden behaviors such as their job type (**inheritance). **You can view them as sub-classes of humans — after all outside of their work, they don’t take orders and they too go to movies, visit a doctor, and are just normal human beings. (**polymorphism).** How do you communicate with the server? It typically falls into one of these three categories, getting you seated, taking your order, and serving you food. Of course, servers do other things too, like telling the chef about your order, but you don’t get to see these things. Your interaction with the server is just restricted to these three behaviors (**data abstraction).** Now, here are some steps to follow to answer an object oriented design question like design an object oriented parking lot. 1. Identify the major entities like vehicles, parking spaces, parking structure and so on using interfaces. 2. Identify specialized subtypes of these entities using abstract classes or just regular classes. For example, your parking spaces may be of different types, two wheeler parking spots, car parking spots, handicapped parking spots and so on. 3. Determine the functionality(behavior) of each of these entities, such as a a car should have a license plate, and have the ability to move; a parking structure should be able to tell you the next available spot to park; a parking space should be able to keep track of your cost of parking and so on. 4. Determine the functionality of specialized entities. All parking spaces have same properties like indicating whether they are occupied or not, and calculating the cost of parking your vehicle but two wheeler spots are cheaper than four wheeler spots. 5. Setup relationships between entities that communicate with each other. Parking space and parking structure can be connected association, that is a parking structure has many parking spaces, and of different types. 6. Lastly, to make yourself standout, use design patterns where appropriate. The most obvious scenario is, obviously not everyone should be able to create their own parking structure on the fly. Make it a singleton class so there is only parking structure, and vehicle owners will use it using your public methods. In the video, I follow the above steps to design an object oriented parking lot. You will also see when to use interfaces vs abstract class, the different use cases of interfaces, a practical programming example of interface (instead of the car inherits vehicle that you read in books) and a few more design patterns that will make you stand out. visit www.programminginterviewprep.com

build a container home || build a container home - Step-By-Step Plans

01:41
build a container home, click here : http://tinyurl.com/j6u8uax What is build a container home? Build a container home is a concept that was introduced by a man called Warren Thatcher. Warren is a professional builder and designer who has been involved in using shipping containers for different building projects for over 14 years. Building and designing a home from s shipping container requires a lot of things. The build a container home program is designed to help you deal with all the things you need to know when building your dream home from a shipping container in a short period of time. The book about the program has got 65 pages including special techniques specifically for containers. The book offers detailed instructions on how to build a container home and also features photos that illustrate the building process step by step. build a container home : http://tinyurl.com/j6u8uax How does the program work? The author of the book will introduce you to a diagram that illustrates the design process of building a container home in the first page of the manual. You will also be taught about the characteristics and components of a standard ISO shipping container. You will realize that planning is very important in the whole building process. The author of the book says that of the 90% of all architectural buildings constructed are attributed to good planning. So basically the author bases his concept of building container homes on good planning. Below are some of the things that the author has outlined to users as things for them to do; • Before starting to build a container house it important to ascertain the number of people who will use the container house. • You should be sure about the overall feel or style that you will want your container house to have. • You should know your budget for the whole project which should include the minimum and the maximum. • You should be aware of the place where you will want to construct the container house. • You should be certain of any special requirements for the construction project before you start off. • You should review the site and also verify the soil bearing capacity of your proposed container home construction site. • You should decide the binding code and review. • You should ascertain if the house will require professional services. • Before starting you should prepare your project’s budget and all your financial planning steps. • You should outline the program requirements e.g. your preferred number of baths, bedrooms, kitchen room etc. • You should come up with a schematic design which includes things such as container massing configuration, elevations, and the floor palns. build a container home : http://tinyurl.com/j6u8uax The Verdict: Build A Container Home is certainly the most comprehensive guide available online. You may be able to find some of the information online, but there isn’t a single source which goes into this kind of detail anywhere that I’ve found. Some of the topics are completely overlooked by all the other sites that I’ve searched. Overall, I’d certainly recommend this book as a useful resource for those who are already committed to building a container home, as well as those who are still undecided. build a container home : http://tinyurl.com/j6u8uax build a container home, build a shipping container home, build a container home pdf,how to build a container home step by step, how to build a container home pdf, build a container home cost, how much to build a container home, build a container home plus 101,build a container home book, how to build a shipping container home book, build a container home 101,build a container home review, how to build a container home book, can i build a shipping container home in california, build a container home software, build a container home australia, average cost to build a container home, build shipping container house ebook, how to build a container home australia,

Startup Toolkit for Architect Entrepreneurs - Volume 1

Download here: https://gumroad.com/l/Dpily The to-do list for architecture startups is long. There's letterhead, logos, business cards, and branding to design. There are systems to put in place to ensure the brand you're creating can deliver on its promises. Among all this are questions: how are new client's processed and welcomed? What will you charge? What business structure and revenue model makes the most sense? All this before you put pen to trace. Most new businesses cobble together systems ad hoc - on an as needed basis. What if the systems, tools, templates, and worksheets were done for you, available and at the ready when you needed them on day one? The Architect + Entrepreneur: Startup Toolkit - Volume 1 is the foundational resource every startup practice needs. What does it include? What would you do?” That’s a question I get asked all the time, and in today’s video I’m gonna tell you exactly what I would do if I was starting from scratch today. The first thing I would do is I would just ruthlessly cut all my unimportant costs. Nothing is more prohibitive to starting out as an entrepreneur than having flabbiness in your lifestyle and unessential expenses. The first thing I would do is to cut every expense that I didn’t need and learn to live very simplistic and meaningful life. You don’t need fancy things when you’re starting out as an entrepreneur and you wanna have a very simple and inexpensive lifestyle. build a container home, click here : http://tinyurl.com/j6u8uax What is build a container home?

INSANELY EASY Gravity Fed Water System for Off Grid Living

We were first bringing water into our property in 6-gallon jugs but now we have a 650 gallon cistern at the top of our hill. While it is in our future to drill a well, it's not a good solution for us today as the pros don't outweigh the cons. We call this our "interim" water solution because it's between water jugs and a well! For the next couple of years or so, we will probably work on fine-tuning this system as it seems to work great!
