In this recorded webinar, Andrea McEwen Henderson (https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreamcewen), National Account Manager for College Recruiter, hosts Ana Escrogima (https://www.linkedin.com/pub/ana-escrogima/2b/230/726), Diplomat in Residence for the New York Metro Area. In which she discusses her experiences as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in the Middle East and how the State Department carries out its mission to implement foreign policy objectives. She also describes the efforts of the State Department to recruit diverse and talented candidates for the Foreign and Civil Service. Key Takeaways: · Work with the State Department on the forefront of foreign policy issues attracts people with a both sense of adventure and key skills that are essential to a successful career. · Given the nature of 21st century policy challenges, a diverse and dynamic staff at the State Department is essential to good policy making and effective diplomacy. · The Foreign Service is more than just a career path; it is a lifestyle and a great opportunity to serve your country. Topics Discussed: 1. Tell us a bit about yourself and Foreign Service career. - For undergrad, I went to brown university, and majored in international relations and French. I had decided to study abroad and really enjoyed the experience. Then I went to Columbia University for graduate school and studied Arabic. That’s when I decided that I wanted to go overseas and serve. - First, I did internships during my studies, then after graduation in 2003 joined the state department. My earlier domestic assignments include a tour as a Special Assistant to Under Secretary for Political Affairs, advising on Middle East issues and serving as a member of the U.S delegation to nuclear talks with Iran. I was also the Deputy Director for Syria policy in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. In my overseas assignments, I was an Arabic language Spokesperson at the State Department's Regional Media Hub in Dubai, a reporting officer and Spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq and a political officer in Damascus. 2. What is a Diplomat in Residence and how can audiences connect with you? - I am one of 16 Foreign Service officers based on college campuses across the US. An easy way to connect is on the careers.state.gov where there is a map of the US, and you can see where the officers are located. Then are able to send an email to them. I host information sessions on university campuses, where the public can connect easily with me or other officers. We encourage people to attend and to be able to connect with the officers that are representing them. 3. How is the State Department actually organized to carry out U.S. foreign policy objectives? - John Kerry is the boss of 70,000 employees all together and the Headquarters is located in Washington DC. There are a total of 275 embassies and consulates. In all, 8,000 officers travel overseas, there are 6000 Foreign Service specialists and a majority are not American citizens. The non-Americans are local nationals (institutional officers while the US workers transition from assignment to assignment) who work side by side with US workers. There are 10,000 civil service employees who are the core of policy practitioners and are based mostly in the US. - Every embassy has a US ambassador (face of the embassy; the leader) or chief of mission officer who is appointed by the president of United States. Next in line is the deputy chief of mission who acts as CEO for the embassy. There are many different groups that officials work in, including: economic policy, political policy, management, counselor, and public diplomacy. 4. What have been some of the most challenging personal and professional experiences of your career? - The most exciting thing about my job is also the most challenging. Moving from country to country, starting a new job, meeting new people, and trying to get to know the country/culture. It’s super fun to adventure but very hard to leave your family behind. In addition, sometimes the places we serve can be intense, but can also be the most rewarding assignments. I would say the most difficult thing was saying goodbye for the first time. 5. What motivates you and keeps you going? - It’s all about doing what I’m passionate about. By making a difference in lives and local or global issues, I always have some new intellectual challenge with every assignment. Whether it’s meeting a new group of people with a new language, or the sense of adventure and new lifestyle. However, wherever I move, the people there become a second family to me overseas. 6. What would you advise the next generation seeking to join the State Department? - If foreign affairs is what you’re interested in, go for it. You don’t need a certain background to apply for the position. What we are looking for are good communicators, people who are composed in stressful situations, and those who can adapt to new cultures quickly.

Breaking U S Navy Commander Sentenced To Prison… Whoa!

04:53
Please Help Me To 100,000 Sub : American Patriot : https://bit.ly/2yOF8Xi BREAKING: U.S NAVY Commander Sentenced To PRISON… WHOA! SAN DIEGO – Former U.S. Navy Commander Troy Amundson was sentenced today to 30 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, a $10,000 fine and $21,625.60 in restitution for federal bribery conspiracy charges by the Honorable Janis L. Sammartino of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Amundson is the latest U.S. Navy official to plead guilty and be sentenced in the wide-ranging corruption and fraud investigation involving foreign defense contractor Leonard Glenn Francis and his Singapore-based company, Glenn Defense Marine Asia (GDMA). Amundson, 50, of Ramsey, MN earlier this year pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, admitting that he conspired with Francis and others to receive things of value, including entertainment expenses and the services of prostitutes, in exchange for taking official acts for the benefit of GDMA and violating his official duties to the United States Navy. Francis pleaded guilty in 2015 to bribery and fraud charges, admitting that he presided over a massive, decade-long conspiracy involving “scores” of U.S. Navy officials, tens of millions of dollars in fraud and millions of dollars in bribes and gifts – from cash, prostitutes and luxury travel to Cuban cigars, Kobe beef and Spanish suckling pigs. According to admissions made as part of his guilty plea, from May 2005 to May 2013, Amundson served as the officer responsible for coordinating the U.S. Navy’s joint military exercises with its foreign navy counterparts. As part of his duties, Amundson was responsible for building and maintaining cooperative relationships with the U.S. Navy’s foreign navy exercise partners. Amundson admitted that from September 2012 through October 2013, Francis paid for dinner, drinks, transportation, other entertainment expenses, and the services of prostitutes for Amundson and other U.S. Navy officers. In one instance, Amundson wrote to Francis from a private e-mail account, arranging to provide Francis with internal, proprietary U.S. Navy information: “Handoff?… [M]y [friend], your program is awesome. I [Amundson] am a small dog just trying to get a bone… however I am very happy with my small program. I still need 5 minutes to pass some data when we can meet up. Cannot print.” That night, Francis arranged the services of several prostitutes from Mongolia for Amundson. Having passed U.S. Navy ship schedules to Francis and having taken numerous other actions in favor of GDMA and in violation of his official duties, Amundson was interviewed by federal criminal investigators in October 2013. As part of his plea agreement, Amundson admitted that he deleted all of his private e-mail account correspondence with Francis following his interview with law enforcement agents earlier that same day. As the United States submitted in its Memorandum in Support of Sentencing, “Amundson destroyed evidence of his conspiratorial relationship with Francis after it appeared law enforcement had caught up with him. In this attempt to cover-up and to destroy evidence, Amundson knew then what he would admit to years later in his plea agreement in this case: He actively conspired to commit bribery with Francis and GDMA in violation of the law and in abrogation of his official duties to the U.S. Navy.” “Amundson cavalierly and selfishly traded on a sacred position of trust, selling his honor to a foreign defense contractor in exchange for prostitutes and entertainment expenses,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman. “We will vigorously enforce the law when a public official puts his own selfish personal interests ahead of the interests of the Navy and our nation.” So far, 33 defendants have been charged and 21 have pleaded guilty, many admitting they accepted luxury travel, parties and services of prostitutes from Francis in exchange for helping the contractor win and maintain contracts and overbill the Navy by millions of dollars. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark W. Pletcher and Patrick Hovakimian of the Southern District of California and Assistant Chief Brian R. Young of the Fraud Section of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. 08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills

12:25
08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills 1. "Tell me a little about yourself." You should take this opportunity to show your communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely in an organized manner. Because there is no right or wrong answer for this question, it is important to appear friendly. 2. "What are your strengths?" This is a popular interview question. They want to know what you think of yourself. Although this is a general question, there is a wrong and right answer. The wrong answer is a generic answer saying you are organized and friendly. Although it will not hurt you during the interview, it will certainly not help you either. Answer this question based on the type of job you are applying for. 3. "What are your weaknesses?" For this answer, you should display a weakness that can be seen as a strength. There are many types of answers that will work. Some answers will be good answers for certain jobs, while the same answer will be a bad answer for a different job. Select an answer that will work for the position you are applying for. 4. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" This question primarily depends on where you are in your career. A person with 5 years of experience will have different goals than a person with no work experience. This question is asked to see how serious a candidate is about his or her career. Some people might not know their goals, and some people might have goals of becoming rich and retiring early. Those are incorrect answers for this question. The type of answer you want to give is an ambitious answer that shows you really love your career. A good interviewer will read between the lines and find out if a person is going to be a hard worker or just a mediocre one. Being descriptive and shooting for a big goal is something interviewers want to hear. 5. "What do you know about our company?" A typical job interview question, asked to find out how much company research you have conducted, is "What do you know about this company?" Prepare in advance, and in a word, research, so you can provide relevant and current information about your prospective employer to the interviewer. 6. "Are you good at dealing with change?" Dealing with change is common in the work place. A simple yes will not be sufficient to impress the interviewer. This is another type of question where everyone will have similar answers. Of course everyone is going to claim being excellent dealing with change. You got to communicate that you are really good at dealing with change. 7. "Do you work well under pressure?" In most cases, the best answer to this question is answering yes. Working well under pressure is a good trait to have. However, I think if you answer that you work the same with pressure and without pressure, the interviewer will be more impressed. However, you will need to explain in words why this is better. 8. "How do you make important decisions?" There are many ways to answer this question, and if you have a reasonable method of making decisions, it will probably be sufficient. One answer I thought of included not being afraid of asking your manager. You can follow up by saying even the best needs mentoring, and you always want to improve. So basically, this could work as an answer, but depending on the job, you might have a better shot with an answer like my example.

AUDIO of US diplomats criticising State Department's policy on foreign service officers

00:38
SHOTLIST AP Television FILE: Recent 1. Exterior of US State Department building 2. Close of sign reading (English) "Department of State" POOL October 31, 2007 3. SOUNDBITE (English) Jack Croddy, Senior Foreign Service Officer: (++ AUDIO overlaid with STILL of US State Department emblem++) "Incoming is coming in every day, rockets are hitting the Green Zone, so if you force assign people that is really shifting the terms of what we're all about. It's one thing if someone believes in what's going on over there and volunteers, but it's another thing to send someone over there on a forced assignment, I'm sorry, but basically that's a potential death sentence and you know it. Who will take care of our children? Who will raise our children if we are dead?" STORYLINE Several hundred US diplomats are venting anger and frustration about the US State Department's decision to force foreign service officers to take jobs in Iraq. Some liken it to a "potential death sentence." In a contentious hour long town-hall meeting at the department on Wednesday, the angry diplomats peppered officials responsible for the order with often hostile complaints about the largest diplomatic call-up since the Vietnam War. Announced last week, it will require some diplomats, under threat of dismissal, to serve at the embassy in Baghdad and in reconstruction teams in outlying provinces. Many, including Jack Croddy, a Senior Foreign Service Officer, expressed serious misgivings about the ethics of sending diplomats against their will to work in a war zone, where the embassy staff is largely confined to the protected "Green Zone," as the department reviews use of private security guards to protect its staff. "Incoming is coming in every day, rockets are hitting the Green Zone," said Croddy, who once worked as a political adviser with NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) forces. Croddy and others confronted Foreign Service Director General Harry Thomas, who approved the move to "directed assignments" late Friday to make up for a lack of volunteers willing to go to Iraq. "It's one thing if someone believes in what's going on over there and volunteers, but it's another thing to send someone over there on a forced assignment, I'm sorry, but basically that's a potential death sentence and you know it," he added. No US diplomats have currently been killed in Iraq, although the security situation is precarious and completion of a new fortified embassy compound and living quarters has been beset by logistical and construction problems. Still Croddy's remarks were met with loud and sustained applause from the approximately 300 diplomats at the meeting. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was not present for the meeting. Her top adviser on Iraq, David Satterfield, attended. Under the new order, 200 to 300 diplomats have been identified as "prime candidates" to fill 48 vacancies that will open next year at the US Embassy in Baghdad and in the provinces. Those notified have 10 days to accept or reject the position. If not enough say yes, some will be ordered to go. Only those with compelling reasons, such as a medical condition or extreme personal hardship, will be exempt from disciplinary action. Diplomats forced into service in Iraq will receive the same extra hardship pay, vacation time and choice of future assignments as those who have volunteered. More than 1,200 of the department's 11,500 Foreign Service officers have served in Iraq since 2003. My Life as an IES Officer (Real Life UPSC CSE ESE Motivational Video)

07:16
In this video, I have discussed my life as an UPSC IES officer and what is the basic nature of the job. This is not a presentation but an unfiltered conversation with me. IES Stands for Indian Engineering Services. UPSC conducts this exam every year and also the officers go through a training process which is of different duration for every department. The choice of department will totally depend on the interest of the Engineer and the UPSC rank. UPSC Engineering Services Examination can be given by engineers of the following branches - CIVIL, MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATION If you have done from some other branch, then also you can give ESE but you have to choose among those 4 mentioned above. We get to meet President and appointed directly from President of India and also we get to meet various ministers on a daily basis. Its a privilege to help in the development of the nation. The indian constitution makes no bias towards Class 1 Gazatted Post. The post can be managerial or technical. It depends on the interest of the person to choose which field to go Jai Hind! ----------

Secretary Perdue Announces Creation of Undersecretary for Trade and USDA Reorganization

05:53
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue on May 11, 2017 announced the creation of an Undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), a recognition of the ever-increasing importance of international trade to American agriculture. Perdue made the announcement standing by barges filled with agricultural products along the banks of the Ohio River. As part of a reorganization of USDA, Perdue also announced the standing up of a newly-named Farm Production and Conservation mission area to have a customer focus and meet USDA constituents in the field. Finally, Perdue announced that the department’s Rural Development agencies would be elevated to report directly to the secretary of agriculture in recognition of the need to help promote rural prosperity. Perdue issued a report to announce the changes, which address Congressional direction in the 2014 Farm Bill https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/2642/text to create the new undersecretary for trade, and also adhere to President Trump’s request of his cabinet to deliver plans to improve the accountability and customer service provided by departments. “Food is a noble thing to trade. This nation has a great story to tell and we've got producers here that produce more than we can consume,” said Secretary Perdue. “And that’s good, because I’m a grow-it-and-sell-it kind of guy. Our people in American agriculture have shown they can grow it, and we’re here to sell it in markets all around the world.” USDA’s report detailing the reorganization was transmitted to Congress this morning. You may click here https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/report-proposed-2017-reorg-usda-under-secretary-trade-foreign-agricultural-affairs.pdf to view the report on the USDA website. USDA employees and members of the public may comment on the reorganization plan by visiting this page https://www.whitehouse.gov/reorganizing-the-executive-branch hosted by the White House.

RBI's Data Localisation Deadline Ends | India Development Debate

27:23
Global e-payment firms and online service providers better watch out, the law on data localization is finally here. With the deadline to transfer their customer data to Indian servers coming to an end on October 15th, the future is uncertain for the likes of Google and Amazon as far as their Indian businesses are concerned. Sources tell ET NOW that the RBI has ruled out any extension to the deadline and wants e-payment companies to store end-to-end transaction details only in India. The slugfest over the Modi government's data localization mission, and what it means to businesses both Indian and foreign, that's what Supriya Shrinate discusses on this India Development Debate.
