Pacific Ocean: Located between the continents of Asia, N./S. America & Australia ~The largest of the 5 oceans, covers 30% of the Earth’s surface. ~ The word Pacific means peaceful, but the ocean is not calm or peaceful. ~ Many volcanoes are located in the ocean: The “Ring of Fire”. ~ The deepest part is nearly 7 miles below the surface. ~ The Great Barrier Reef is located off the Australian coast. Atlantic Ocean: Located between the continents America, Europe, and Africa ~ About half the size of the Pacific Ocean ~ Many sharks are found in the waters of the ocean. ~ Islands located in the Atlantic include the Bahamas and Greenland, which is the largest island on Earth. ~ The word Atlantic means “Sea of Atlas”. ~ Cities on the Atlantic Ocean include Miami and London. Indian Ocean: Located between Africa, Australia and parts of Asia ~ Largest breeding grounds of the world for humpback whales. ~ The Suez Canal in Egypt is a waterway in the ocean. ~ Cities along the ocean include Mumbai, India; Perth, Australia; and Singapore. ~ Many endangered species live here such as turtles and seals. Arctic Ocean: Located around the North Pole across the Arctic circle ~ Home to many of the Polar Bears of the world. ~ Smallest ocean and most shallow, but is the coldest. ~ Sometimes called the “frozen ocean”, almost completely covered in ice during the winter, ~ There are more fish species here than anywhere else in the world. Southern Ocean: Located around the South Pole across the Antarctic circle ~ Home to the Emperor Penguins and Wandering Albatrosses ~ Sometimes it is also called the Antarctic Ocean ~ Icebergs are found throughout the Southern Ocean ~ No people live along the coast of the ocean Thank you for following Clarendon Learning. Learn English - Travel Vocabulary
http://www.engvid.com/ Learn important, basic words you will need when you travel. Knowing a little English vocabulary can help a lot when you are travelling. Whever you are going in the world, you can almost always find someone who speaks some English. I'll teach you how a "tourist attraction" is different from a "tourist trap". What about "sight seeing"? Do you know what an "itinerary" is? Do you have your travel documents? Get ready for your English to take flight! http://www.engvid.com/travel-vocabulary/ Hi. James, from EngVid. I was just about to plan my vacation. I'm going to take a long flight to Europe. I'm trying to remember luggage and baggage things, you know? It's kind of hard to do. But this is a lesson for you if you've been working a lot, you need some time off. Now, there's a video I would like you to go check out. That's on time off. It goes with this one. You might want to go away somewhere and not just stay home, right? So this video is for you. This is basic vocabulary on vacation. When you leave and maybe you go to an English speaking country and you want to practice your English, this stuff will be good for you to enjoy your time there, also to make it easy for you when you arrive. Are you ready? Let's go to the board. Mr. E, Mr. E! It's a mystery where he is. It's no mystery. And you thought I forgot. Mr. E has been on vacation with me, and he's enjoying this particular attraction. So let's go to the board. Now, if you're going to go on vacation, one of the first things you will have to do if you're leaving your country is you're going to need some travel documents. What are those? Documents. A "document" is a paper or something with information that tells you something is okay or outlines it for you. For example, your passport is a document given by the government with your picture on it that says you are a citizen of this country, and you are legal. You are a good person. Okay? Now, when you're leaving for a flight, or you want to go to another country, you're going to need travel documents first. Trust me; show up at the airport and go, "I leave now. I go to Canada." They will go, "And the car is that way. Go home, crazy man. Okay?" So we need travel documents. So what are "travel documents"? Well, "travel documents" would be your passport, government identification, usually needed at most places the travel. Inside of a country, not necessary for most places. But leaving the country, you have to have it. Okay? So if you're in the European Union, no problem. If you're in Canada and the United States, you don't need one. But as soon as you leave these countries, you need a passport. What's another thing you need? Well, you need what's called a "boarding pass". If you play soccer, you kick the ball; the other guy, he catches it; you "pass" right? The ball goes from one player to another. A "boarding pass" is what allows you to go from one country to another country. You show the person on the airplane this piece of paper with your passport, and they say, "You know what? You can come on the plane and fly, like the pass." Kick, catch, other country. Cool? All right. So these are your travel documents. You need those. Now, I should have started with you need to make a plan because you want to go visit some place. You want to go on vacation, right? And if you want to go on vacation, well, going to have to -- I said "vacation". A "vacation" is a holiday, another word for saying "time off from work". All right? So you want to go on vacation. Sometimes, we say, "We're going to vacation in Italy." Or "on my vacation, I want to visit Italy." Or "I'm taking a holiday in Italy." Okay? So all these words, when people say, "Well, what are you doing on your time off?" You might go, "I'm going on vacation." Then they know you're leaving. If you just say, "I'm taking time off from work", you could be home cleaning. But no. You're saying, "I'm going on vacation." They're going to go, "Where are you going to visit? Italy, perhaps? Sicily? Is it going to be a good holiday?" And you go, "Yes. I earned my time." "Earned" means to work for something. "I earned my time off. I'm going on vacation."

English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

Top 10 Reasons FINLAND Has the World’s Best SCHOOL SYSTEM
While it is almost impossible to say a single nation’s schools are the best in the world, one country that consistently performs extremely well on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) exams for math, reading and science, may come as a surprise to many. Finland, a tiny nation of 5.5 million people, consistently makes the top 5 performers across those categories, making it the top educational performer in Europe and one of the strongest in the world. (Singapore, Japan, and South Korea are also strong performers, and China did not submit consolidated results for the most recent test.) Finland?! What We Don’t Know About Europe’s Muslim Kids and Why We Should Care | Deeyah Khan | TEDxExeter
Aged 17, Deeyah fled from Norway confused, lost and torn between cultures. Unlike some young Muslims she picked up a camera instead of a gun. She now uses her camera (and her superpower) to shed light on the clash of cultures between Muslim parents who prioritise honour and their children's desire for freedom. She argues that we need to understand what is happening to fight the pull to extremism. -- At TEDxExeter 2016 our speakers encapsulated the idea of movement, that grappling with humanity’s toughest questions requires first a vision, a dream, and then action. Video Production Chromatrope (http://chromatrope.co.uk/) Production Manager Andy Robertson (http://www.youtube.com/familygamertv) Deeyah Khan is a critically acclaimed music producer and Emmy and Peabody award-winning documentary film director. Her work highlights human rights, women's voices and freedom of expression. Her skill as a multidisciplinary artist led her to film and music as the language for her social activism. Born in Norway to immigrant parents of Pashtun and Punjabi ancestry, the experience of living between different cultures, both the challenges and the beauty, dominates her artistic vision. Her 2012 multi-award winning documentary Banaz: A Love Story chronicles the life and death of Banaz Mahmod. Her second film the Bafta-nominated Jihad involved two years of interviews and filming with Islamic extremists, convicted terrorists and former jihadis. Deeyah is the founder of social purpose arts and media production company, Fuuse which works to create intercultural dialogue and understanding by confronting the most complex and controversial topics, and sharing alternative views and excluded voices. USA vs USSR Fight! The Cold War: Crash Course World History #39
In which John Green teaches you about the Cold War, which was occasionally hot, but on average, it was just cool. In the sense of its temperature. It was by no means cool, man. After World War II, there were basically two big geopolitical powers left to divide up the world. And divide they did. The United States and the Soviet Union divvied up Europe in the aftermath of the war, and then proceeded to spend the next 45 years fighting over the rest of the world. It was the great ideological struggle, with the US on the side of capitalism and profit, and the USSR pushing Communism, so-called. While both sides presented themselves as the good guy in this situation, the reality is that there are no good guys. Both parties to the Cold War engaged in forcible regime changes, built up vast nuclear arsenals, and basically got up to dirty tricks. If you had to pick a bad guy though, I would point out that the USSR had no intention of bringing Laika the Cosmonaut Dog home alive. That poor dog never had a shot. Sorry to disappoint, but the economist t-shirts are not a real product. Thanks to Raoul Meyer for the YUGOGAL photo. Caroline Nixon has been teaching English since 1983. She is co-author, along with Michael, of six 'Primary Box' titles from the Cambridge Copy Collection and of the Primary course Kid's Box. She gives teacher-training workshops in Portugal, Spain and England. Michael Tomlinson has been teaching English since 1989 and has worked in the UK, Turkey, Spain and Sweden. John Green teaches you about the so-called Dark Ages, which it turns out weren't as uniformly dark as you may have been led to believe. While Europe was indeed having some issues, many other parts of the world were thriving and relatively enlightened. John covers European Feudalism, the cultural blossoming of the Islamic world, and the scientific and artistic advances in China, all during these "Dark Ages." Along the way, John will raise questions about the validity of Europe's status as a continent, reveal the best and worst years of his life, and frankly state that science and religion were once able to coexist. I'm a huge disney fan, and grew up and STILL growing up with their films. I've done the odd Disney arrangement on my channel, but wanted to take on doing an entire collection! I wanted to choose a selection of songs that featured classics and also some more obscurer songs from Disney too. Disney melodies are beautiful and that emotion is what I wanted to focus on in these collections, I hope that comes across! I hope you guys enjoy these collections, they've been a labour of love over the last month! Let me know which ones are your favourites! Huge thanks to my sister, for editing the visual footage. The visuals are not meant to be directly in synch with the original videos by the way, and are purely here for aesthetic reasons to support the arrangements. It would be amazing if you guys could share this with any other fellow Disney fans! Austria Song For Kids | Austria for Kids Video | Places in Austria for Kids
We composed this song in the style of real Austrian folk music. Kids and adults can view images of Austrian landscapes, explore the country in-depth, and learn about famous Austrian people while learning all about the geography and culture of Austria. The song is a helpful tool for learning the history and important integral facts about Austria, so whether you just want to learn about Austria - or are planning to travel there and want a fun way to be introduced to your destination - let this song be your musical guided tour. Video is "for kids", but it's truly suitable for kids and adults of all ages. We think this video is an important musical supplement to Kids Learning Tube Austria Song and Geography Now Austria YouTube videos. ____________________ Austria Song for Kids & Lyrics (Chorus) Austria, Austria, where could you be / You are in Europe, not in Oceania Salzburg, Vienna, and the Alps mountaintops / Austria, Austria the fun never stops Austria is in Europe, not in Oceania. There are no kangaroos in Austria. The population is almost 9 million, and the official unit of currency is the Euro Hello black eagle, you're the national creature / Stags deer and pheasants, foxes, rabbits and badgers Alpine carnations and roses and heather / Edelweiss, edelweiss brings us together The black eagle is the national animal, and Edelweiss is the national flower. You look happy to meet me! Chorus They like weinerschnitzel and kartner kasnudel / Schnapps made with fruit and some warm apple strudel They go alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping / Those mountain sports really get the heart pumping! Innsbruck is a city in Austria that hosted both the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic games Chorus Classical music was born in Vienna / Haydn and Liszt and Strauss played the piano Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Beethoven / To forget these legends - that must be verboten! Vienna has historically been a center of music innovation, spanning centuries. The official language of Austria is German. Chorus Austria Children's Song and Video Lyrics Above ____________________ ABOUT JEOGRAPHY: My name is Stephen, creator of Jeography Songs. After discovering my love for travel over 10 years ago, I decided to embark upon a musical journey where upon reaching my destination I'd have successfully written a song for every one of the 196 countries on planet Earth. Now well into my journey, I recently decided to create video portraits of the countries using my songs as the theme and am in the process of putting them up for the world to enjoy here on Youtube. I hope you find these musical portraits a truly enjoyable way to learn about the diverse cultures, geographies, and histories that make each country remarkable. We don't take them too seriously, so any horrible insults in the comments section will be given the Teflon treatment. In writing each song I tried to use instrumentation, melodies, and rhythms that reflect the musical traditions of the host country. We hope you like the songs and stay around for awhile, but even if you don't like them, "Jee" our Jeography dog will always stay loyal to us, so whatever. ____________________ WEBSITE COMING SOON (2019 planned launch): Jeography.com will be loaded with fun geography games, country studies and lesson plans, as well as other ad-free (child-safe, school-safe) videos and comics. We also plan to produce affordable puzzles of the major 6 continents to help children pique their natural curiosity of geographical knowledge while broadening their understanding of the world around them. ____________________ Brief Summary: Learn about Austria. World War II: Crash Course World History #38
Crash Course World History is now available on DVD! Visit http://store.dftba.com/products/crashcourse-world-history-the-complete-series-dvd-set to buy a set for your home or classroom. In which John Green teaches you about World War II, aka The Great Patriotic War, aka The Big One. So how did this war happen? And what does it mean? We've all learned the facts about World War II many times over, thanks to repeated classroom coverage, the History channel, and your grandfather (or maybe great-grandfather) showing you that Nazi bayonet he used to keep in his sock drawer and telling you a bunch of age-inappropriate stories about his harrowing war experiences. So, why did the Axis powers think forceful expansion was a good idea? (they were hungry). So why did this thing shake out in favor of the Allies? HInt: it has to do with the fact that it was a world war. Germany and Japan made some pretty serious strategic errors, such as invading Russia and attacking the United States, and those errors meant that pretty much the whole world was against them. So, find out how this worldwide alliance came together to stop the Axis expansion. All this, plus Canada finally gets the respectful treatment it deserves. Oh, and a warning: there are a few graphic images in this episode. Sensitive viewers may want to use caution, especially around the 9:15 mark. Action Words, Part 1 (Classroom Physical Activity Breaks)
Colleen Evans discusses and demonstrates a physical activity for a classroom, where children move to action words in a book with action words (such as "Barnyard Dance"). Grade Level: K4-2 To skip the introduction, go to 2:43 Addresses Physical Education Standard 1 ("Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.") Part 1 focuses on teaching students the words of the story. Part 2 has the teacher reading the students the story and the students act out the part of the story through movement. Parts 1 and 2 should be done on separate days. Shared as part of the Active Schools Initiative, which provides strategies to teachers and students for motivating students to be physically active outside of their physical education classes. http://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/physicaled.html Video produced by Milwaukee Public Schools with support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
