DIY Dust Collector System with Homemade Blast Gates and Automatic Start/Stop Function

11:35
Continuing off with my DIY dust collector cyclone system I added all the duct work to hook up dust collection to my tools. I show how I added dust ports to the router table, drill press, table saw and band saw. The drill press dust collection is via a loc-line system sold by lee valley. I made homemade blast gates from some hardboard and 5/8 melamine particle board. I used a non contact magnet door alarm system to control a low voltage dc relay to control the motor operation when the blast gates are opened and closed. I made free plans for the blast gates on my website (link below) Buy a T-shirt to support the channel: https://teespring.com/stores/diy-builds Visit my website for free plans and see viewer builds: http://diybuilds.ca Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diybuilds Follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DIYBuilds Support DIY Builds on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/DIYBuilds #DIYBuilds #Woodworking #DIY

PVC dust extractor pipe how to no static dave stanton woodworking safety dust collection

04:53
in woodworking a fire caused by static electricity in our dust extractor is a fear we all have. in this video I show you how to install a cheap method to eradicate static if you are using a pvc pipe for your dust extractor. This system works well for me in my home workshop situation with air flow of around 1200 cubic feet per minute. You will be responsible for your own circumstances if you choose to use my method. I do not recommend this system for industrial situations and recommend that you employ a qualified person to advise you. Be aware that other things can cause fires in a dust extractor, one of which is using blunt cutters in a router table. If you see or smell smoke, stop immediately and track it's source. If you want the bare wire you can source it here. http://amzn.to/2zicbS1 or here https://www.carbatec.com.au/dust-control/accessories/grounding-kit-dust-collection * Links below to ENTER Amazon - affiliate disclosure - support this channel at no extra cost to yourself when you enter Amazon through one of these links. Now that the upper part of my shop is being used a lot more, it was time to add some dust collection. I’m just using a shop vac setup here with central vacuum plumbing to supply all the tools. I also made some simple 2” blast gates which seem to work really well. thanks for watching Ryan Nodwell Music by: David Cutter Music www.davidcuttermusic.co.uk instagram: https://instagram.com/shop_built/ Check my website for the latest here: www.shopbuilt.org tweeter: https://twitter.com/nods221 facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shop-built/713921978645450

How To Make a Cyclone Dust Collector for Your Shop Vacuum

Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw http://amzn.to/2yFr663 ============================== In this video I will show you how to make your own cyclone dust collector for your shop vacuum. This will be installed in between your vacuum and tool. All debris & dust will be sucked into the dust collector and not go into the vacuum cleaner. It will keep your shop vacuum cleaner filter element clean and not clog it. ======================= NOTE ABOUT THE PIPE DIAMETER: For this project, the middle PVC pipe installed in the dust collector lid is 1.25". The PVC pipe installed on the side into the bucket is 1.5". These sizes are what I found to work for my setup between tools/shop vac/hose. Your setup may have different pipe sizes. There are many different pipe diameter sizes found between different brands and tools. For example, many vacuum attachments such as brushes, hand sanders have a diameter of 1.25". Table saw may have pipe diameter 1 7/8". Some shop vac has 2.5" pipe. You will need to figure out what are all the pipe sizes you have, and then get the proper PVC pipe to get everything integrated. If you can't find the right PVC pipe, then you can also use some expansion rubber hose and clamps to hold pieces together. ======================= Dial2Fast website: http://www.dial2fast.com Support Us On Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/dial2fast

Fully Automated Dust Collection powered by Arduino // How To

With this blank slate, I had an opportunity to improve on my older automated system that worked off a key pad. I wanted the ability to simply turn on a tool and the dust collector would fire up and all the blast gates to close like they should. In a shop with many tools, there are valves that can isolate the suction to help improve air flow, the more tools you have, the more gates you would have to close in order to use one tool. With the help of an Arduino micro controller, I was hoping to automatically control these gates and have the DC turn on and off with the tool. There are commercially available systems that do this, but they are expensive and don't offer a way to add additional IoT functions later. Eventually, I'm hoping to connect the system to other sensors set up around the room to make the ultimate workshop of the future! I started by laying out the pipes that would connect the DC to each tool in the most efficient way. I found some drainage piping at Lowe's which was much cheaper than traditional PVC pipe. Because the walls of this drainage pipe were thinner than regular PVC, most of the blast gates and fittings wouldn't connect.  Josh designed and 3d printed a bunch of adapters to connect the whole system together. After connecting all of the tools to the pipes and fittings, we played it safe and added a ground wire from one of the pipes to an existing ground wire in the basement. This is said to prevent static buildup which could be dangerous in a dusty environment, so I added it just in case. With the ducting in place, I focused on the sensors that would read the amperage spike when each tool is turned on.  I made a housing that the tools would plug into to receive power and also connect to the voltage detector that connects to the Arduino. Once you turn on a tool, an amperage spike is detected and an input signal tells the Arduino to shuttle the appropriate blast gates and to trip the relay that controls the DC. The blast gates are controlled by a servo mounted on a bracket that swings an arm connected to the gate. When the servo moves, the arm pushes or pulls the gate open or closed. There are a lot of components to this system so managing all of the wires, plugs, connectors, and servos was very important. All of the connecters were pinned and protected with heat shrink, all of the wires were bundled and labeled, and the servos were dialed in to make sure the gates weren't hitting any hard stops. The system works great except for one component that kept giving us trouble. The 15 amp relay that was controlling the dust collector would fail after a few days. After some research, I discovered that they were a bit underpowered for the 2 horsepower DC. I have ordered a beefier relay and when we get it hooked up and working, it'll be listed here. If you want the Arduino code for I made for this project, you can find it here. I hope this project inspires you streamline your workflow and find ways to improve efficiency in your shop or home. Shop Dust Collection System 021

08:36
This week we FINALLY got the shop dust collection system set up and working! We put a new coat of white paint in the shop and decided it was time to try and contain the dust. The system uses a 2HP harbor freight dust collector, 4" PVC duct work, homemade blast gates, homemade hanger brackets and a new dust shroud for the miter saw. Blast gates for the dust collection system - Made by Magnus

07:10
As a part of the process of getting a dust control system in place, I needed some blast gates to control the air flow. Here's how I did it. For more information and free plans, please see the written article at my website: http://www.madebymagnus.com I wanted a design that were somewhat clog free and also worked in narrow places. Without too much investigation on the web I decided on the design and started building it. During the building I also took some pictures that I shared on a forum about "my design". I was immediately informed that I wasn't first with this design! ;) Apparantly "Geeks Wood Shop" published his version a half year earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oulc3cTy-XY&index=1&list=WL Nevertheless, I had already filmed everything so I decided to upload the video anyhow. The design consist of two pieces of 12mm (~1/2") plywood with a moving piece of 4mm (~5/32") plywood in between. The design is made in Sketchup and printed with the help of Matthias Wandels program "Big print". I assembled the three parts with a M6 bolt (~1/4" machine screw) and locking nut. Then I drilled the large hole. By doing this I was sure to get a smooth finnish on the inside when the blast gate was open. The design of these blast gates are dimensioned to fit a 100mm (~4") ventilation pipe. Making 6" Blast Gates for Dust Collection

09:41
I upgraded my dust collection pipes, from 4" to 6" lines, and wanted to make blast gates for the main lines. I used a similar process to gates I've built in the past. I really like this system, I can open and close the gates even if hung on the wall or ceiling.

Automate Your Dust Collection with iVac

06:28
Plain English Disclosure: iVac provided the materials for the installation and paid for this video feature. They did not pay for my opinion. So if you have a question or concern about the system, please feel free to ask.  This video was filmed over a month ago and I've had some additional time to get to know the system in my shop.  So far, so good. I've had one instance of a blast gate not opening when it was supposed to and it was just a matter of pushing on the movable metal plate to get it working again. Also, my "heads up" in the video about the cords and power requirements still stands. If you cluster your tools like I do, you'll need to plan for the additional receptacles and cord management. Overall, I'm happy with the system and it's great not having to hunt around for a remote anymore! The biggest challenge with this system is the price. If you're looking for basic automation, the simple iVac Automated Vacuum Switch is probably a good bet. But if you're planning on outfitting a full ducted shop, it's going to be a sizable investment.  This video serves as a quick overview of how I installed the iVac system in my shop and is not intended as a replacement for the instructions provided by the company. Budget Workshop Air Filtration System - Installation and Review

In this video I install and test a new budget air filtration system in my workshop. I purchased from Rutlands in the UK; a very good woodworking supplier. I have found the identical unit on amazon in the US (link below). I've also put 2 UK links below, one for the the Rutlands item and another for the Record Power version on Amazon UK. The Record Power version is slightly more expensive than the Rutlands item which I think is on offer at the time of posting this video. Tips for Central Dust Collection

09:48
Once you’ve invested in a dust collector for your shop and are considering setting it up as a central system, be sure you educate yourself about the best practices for piping the system in. This video will go a long way toward helping you keep your system efficient. It’s in the details: Creating an efficient central dust collection system is all about the little things. You’ve got to pay attention to the small details to get the system to do what you want it to do. What type of fittings should you buy? Can plumbing fittings be substituted for dust collection fittings? Should you seal the joints? Where should you use flex hose instead of rigid pipe? What type of flex pipe is best? What’s the best way to reduce the diameter of the pipe? This video provides answers to these questions, and will help you make your system efficient. Elbows, T’s and Y’s: Woodworkers often use the wrong fittings, and this adversely affects their dust control system. Elbows need to be the correct radius, based on the diameter of the pipe they’re connected to. T’s aren’t great, Y’s are a better choice. The video explains why. More tips: If you’re looking for more help on installing a central dust collection system, and keeping it efficient, have a look at Paul Mayer’s article that provides a simple approach for dust collection ducting. SuckIt Dust Boot For the Shapeoko 3 XXL

11:47
Recently after acquiring my Shapeoko 3 I quickly realized the dust collection was a must. I did my first cutting run on a few coasters and even with a hose almost at the bit, I had sawdust or chips as CNC'ers like to call them everywhere in my basement. Not having a good way to just blow the chips out a door, I found myself using a shopvac more than I'd like. I started looking for designs to build one, which I am sure is out there somewhere, but in the process found the SuckIT Dust Boot. I looked at the price and although I could likely have built something for less money and enjoyed the process, I saw this and thought, they've already found all the mistakes and done all the testing. I was right. This is exactly what I needed. It's so good in fact, the enclosure I have plans to build is now a want and not a need. It's still going to happen, but not this week. As for the Shapeoko, All I can say is wow. What an amazing tool. I can wait to get it running longer multiple part jobs. I have all sorts of products that I want to incorporate the CNC into. Unique Dust Port for the Router Table

05:08
When using a flush trim bit at the router table and routing against a template, the fence is generally moved out of the way and the dust extraction of the fence is lost. This little device allows you to locate the hose from the fence right next to the router bit and capture the majority of the dust. I have added a weight to my design and a rubber matting to the base to stop any drift from vibrations. Enjoy! It is made from plywood, perspex, a dust hose connector, epoxy glue, no nails glue, rubber bar matt and a heavy weight. Took a couple of hours to make, excluding glue setting time. ============================================== Please support my channel by subscribing, thanks! Workshop Dust Collection Solutions

04:47
http://www.AConcordCarpenter.com Subscribe to my free newsletter: http://www.aconcordcarpenter.com/subscribe Dust Collection: In my shop I installed the dust collector in an out of the way spot, un-used corner of my shop and on the complete opposite side of the shop was my miter saw station. Unfortunately the dust collector power switch and the blast gate were in different locations and unless I was making alot of miter saw cuts I did not use the dust. When working in s a shop the reality of bouncing between tools is high and many times I find myself needing to make a few "quick" miter saw cuts. Over the years I have come to realize that the weak link in my dust collection was the miter saw station. It got me thinking that there must be a better way so I decided to make a mini dust collection station right at the saw. Collecting dust at the source is one of the best ways of controlling shop dust. Collecting Wood Shop Dust At The Source: My plan was simple I was going to dedicate a shop vacuum to this miter saw station and connect the vacuum hose to the miter saw dust port. One thing I want to avoid was having to lean over and turn on and then off the vacuum switch so I researched quality vacuums that had a power tool actuated switch. Choosing A Vacuum With A Power Tool Activation Control I settled on the DEWALT 27904, its a 12-Gallon Dust Extractor with Automatic Filter Cleaner. The DEWALT 27904 was designed to be able to capture the nastiest of nasty of dust. I'm talking about concrete and drywall dust. This vacuum is also rated to be EPA compliant with their new RRP rule which involves the capture and collection of lead dust during rehab, repair and painting activities. The automatic filter-cleaning system is a bit strange to hear the first time but the feature is nice to have. Every 15 seconds the vacuum pulses air through the filter to clean the filter of fine dust particles. The DEWALT 27904 is rated for 2 microns at 99 percent efficiency so I knew that it would easily handle all of my shop dust needs. With a 15 gallon capacity I won't have to worry about emptying this vacuum anytime soon. Automatic Start/Stop Switch: All of the new vacuums features are cool but the reason I selected it was for the power tool activation control. My miter saw plugs into the vacuum and the vacuum plugs into a standard outlet. Once I start the miter saw the vacuum starts and will continue to run for 15 seconds to allow all dust to be cleared from hose as well as capture any airborne dust after the cut. Making The Miter Saw To Vacuum Connections I used a standard dust collection reducer to connect my 2-1/2″ to the vacuum hose. The 2-1/2" hose easily connected to my miter saws dust port. the cost a few dollars each and are easily obtained from Rockler or Amazonn.com. Getting the correct fittings is probably the toughest part of the process. How Does It Work? After I had connected the tools together and made all of the hose connections I made several practice cuts. The end result was amazing; there was barely any visible dust around the saw. Why did I wait so long to do this? My situation involved a stationary tool in my shop but this method would work great for contractors working inside someone's home or a woodworker or sophisticated hobbyist who does not have the time, money or space for a dedicated dust collection system. The DEWALT 27904 vacuum has heavy duty casters and wheel along the floor nicely. This tool could be moved around a small shop as needed. An Inexpensive Alternative: Not everyone has the budget of a heavy duty vacuum. An alternative solution to what I did is to by an I-Socket tool and vacuum switch made by DCG Products, Inc. The I-Socket Vacuum Switch works similar to the switch in my new DEWALT vacuum. You still need a vacuum and connections to make this work. The I-Socket switch will allow your vacuum to run for seven seconds after you stop your tool to clear out final dust from the vacuum hose. To quote the shakers, clean your room well, for good spirits will not live where there is dirt."

SOUNDPROOF COMPRESSOR ENCLOSURE with external control - All-In-One woodworking bench P5

15:34
I wanted to add my small 50L compressor to my ultimate All-In-One woodworking workstation in a way that would be convenient. Adding external controls seemed like the obvious solution. Enclosing the compressor in a box would also allow me to add soundproofing so that I can silence the compressor and minimize the fright I get when it starts up randomly. For the people that are a bit less electrically inclined, a very similar result can be achieved using a simple on/off switch and some manual valves. I apologize for a few of the shots being out of focus! CNC Dust Collection part 2

18:46
In this part of the story, I connect a 6 inch dust collection line from the dust collector to the CNC spindle. I am taking a lot of care to make sure the transitions in the pipe are as smooth and sweeping as possible in order to keep the airflow up. I have made an arm above the CNC machine that will allow the dust collection pipe to follow the spindle in an arc. In the future, I plan to have 12 feet of movement in the CNC. The moving arm will allow the dust collection to follow the spindle with that much movement.
