Handling The Clopidogrel - Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) Drug Interaction

04:48
Many healthcare providers remain uncertain about how best to handle a well-known drug interaction between clopidogrel and proton pump inhibitors. In this edition of Pharmacy Pearls, I am going to summarize an excellent editorial by Dr. David Juurlink, professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, which was published in the journal Circulation in 2009. It discusses the nature of the interaction, its importance to patients, as well as three simple management strategies for dealing with it. Please stay tuned to the end of the video for a link to the article. Ensure you never miss a video by subscribing to my YouTube channel.

Please watch: "(905) Mitochondria: Central Role in Aging 2018 (and how to reverse it)( warning - geeky)- FORD BREWER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKM0Lh078A --~-- In a previous video, we covered the importance of clot prevention in heart attack and stroke prevention. Plavix was the first option to coumadin. It is on the WHO list of Essential Medications. This means it's been found safe, effective and necessary. It costs about $25/month is the US. The major side effects are the same as all the other anti-clotting or anti-platelet drugs: bleeding or hemorrhage. There were other issues mentioned but not covered in depth: relatively higher benefit for smokers; dipyridamole; CHAD2VAS2. Here's the thing, the big issue - less than 1/3 of people needing this medication are actually taking it. Why? Patients blame docs, docs blame Pharma, ... Let's forget blame and get proper protection for people with atrial fibrillation, post-stroke, and other indications. About Dr. Brewer - Ford Brewer is a physician that started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many patients coming in dead from early heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. He went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine at Hopkins. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has over 500 primary care/ prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, stroke, and diabetes prevention clinic. At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack and stroke and Type 2 diabetes prevention by reducing or eliminating risk through attentive care and state-of-the-art genetic testing, imaging, labs and telemedicine options. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those have not developed a diagnosis or event. Our team of senior clinicians includes internationally recognized leaders in the research and treatment of cardiovascular disease, preventive medicine and wellness. We also provide preventive medicine by telemedicine technology to over 30 states. Contact Dr. Brewer at info@prevmedheartrisk.com or visit http://prevmedheartrisk.com.

Preventing Strokes: Aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, Pradaxa, or What?

07:36
A large clinical trial testing the effects of aspirin and Plavix to prevent small strokes was stopped because there was no added benefit by combining these drugs and the risk of bleeding was too high. This information was presented at the 2012 American Stroke Association meeting in February of 2012. A second abstract presented at the same conference showed that Coumadin and aspirin were equally effective in preventing deaths and strokes in patients with congestive heart failure. All of the drugs used to anticoagulate people in mainstream medicine, which includes, aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, and Pradaxa are associated with potentially life-threatening bleeding. Coumadin also has the effect of causing osteoporosis and accelerating arteriosclerosis after just 2 years of treatment. Nutritional medicine offers several options that include fish oil, nattokinase, lumbrokinase, and ginkgo biloba, but they have been alll but ignored by MDs because there's not sufficient research to compare the effects of mainstream drugs to these nutrients. These studies should be done the by NIH! For more information please visit www.doctorsaputo.com

What should I do if I've been taking Plavix?

00:57
http://www.gregjoneslaw.com The most serious Plavix side effect is gastrointestinal hemorrhage or bleeding ulcers. These sores can be caused or irritated by medications. Plavix prevents the formation of platelets in the blood, the part of the blood that forms clots, so that the risk of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract is increased. Gastrointestinal bleeding can be fatal. Researchers believe that blood-thinning drugs like Plavix trigger an antibody in susceptible people that causes the formation of platelet and protein clots. If you are taking Plavix, you might want to discuss the risk of Plavix side effects with your health care provider. If you or a family member has been injured from using Plavix, you may be able to recover damages for that injury.

Antiplatelet drug animation: Clopidogrel

01:52
Clopidogril is an antipltelet drug. Binding of ATP to its receptors in the platelet surface activate cascade of reactions which end up by activation of the glycoprotein receptors on the platelet surface which mediate the aggregation of fibrinogen strands to platelet. Clopidogel inhibits the binding of ADP molecules to its receptors therefore interfere with platelet aggregation.

I've Taken Plavix or its Generic Versions and had Serious Side Effects - NY Attorney Michael Werner

I've Taken Plavix or its Generic Versions and had Serious Side Effects - NY Attorney Michael Werner explains more at: https://www.yourlawyer.com/defective-drug-attorneys/ Watch as attorney Michael Werner of Parker Waichman discusses how one drug with serious side effects is still on the market, with federal approval. But even more disappointing is that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is approving this drug's generic forms as well. The drug Plavix is a blood thinner used in the prevention of blood clots. It also assists with heart disease, strokes, and heart attacks. Although it is used to keep people healthy, it generally has some serious side effects including cerebral bleeding, bleeding ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Now that the drug is being sold at a much lower cost, the exposure could cause numerous injuries and harm to those who use the prescription drug. Watch this video now to learn more. How serious are health risks with Plavix?

01:12
http://www.gregjoneslaw.com For many years, Plavix was the recommended heart medication for patients with a gastrointestinal intolerance for aspirin. The drug's manufacurers, claimed that Plavix was not only more effective than aspirin in preventing heart attacks and strokes, but it also caused fewer ulcers and other gastrointestinal complications. However, recent studies have found that Plavix can cause serious bleeding ulcers and gastrointestinal hemorrhaging in some patients when taken alone or in combination with aspirin or other similar heart drugs. Research also shows that patients with no history of heart disease who are taking Plavix and aspirin combined have a twofold risk of heart attack, stroke, and death. You should NOT take Plavix if you have a medical history of ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding, PUD, or have recently suffered a trauma or are anticipating an upcoming surgery. Talk to your physician about alternative drug therapy.

Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate) TV Ad / AudetLaw.com

00:31
Plavix TV commercial for Audet & Partners, LLP. Please see: http://bit.ly/lpzSXW for more information about this investigation. ----------- Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate), distributed by Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb, is the second best-selling drug in the world. Doctors commonly prescribe this anti-coagulant in combination with aspirin as a preventative measure against strokes, heart attacks, and to promote a healthy circulatory system. However, researchers have recently found that Plavix use can actually greatly increase the risk of a stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attack, and other serious conditions. Plavix also appears to have certain other issues. For example, according to published data, it simply does not metabolize properly in some people. In plain english, this means that it does not work very well for certain patients. According to FDA warnings, It also does not work in conjuction with certain other drugs. Many of those drugs are common "over the counter" medications. The FDA has outlined these apparent problems/dangers in its own publication entitled "Medication Guide Plavix® (PLAV-iks) (clopidogrel bisulfate) tablets" Here is an excerpt: Plavix can cause bleeding which can be serious and can sometimes lead to death. Plavix is a blood thinner medicine that lowers the chance of blood clots forming in your body. While you take Plavix: • you may bruise and bleed more easily • you are more likely to have nose bleeds • it will take longer for any bleeding to stop Call your doctor right away if you have any of these signs or symptoms of bleeding: • unexpected bleeding or bleeding that lasts a long time • blood in your urine (pink, red or brown urine) • red or black stools (looks like tar) • bruises that happen without a known cause or get larger • cough up blood or blood clots • vomit blood or your vomit looks like coffee grounds Do not stop taking Plavix without talking to the doctor who prescribes it for you. People who are treated with a stent, and stop taking Plavix too soon, have a higher risk of getting a blood clot on the stent, having a heart attack, or dying. If you must stop Plavix because of bleeding, your risk of a heart attack may be higher. Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) Treatment Medications Nursing Interventions Heart Disease Part 2

14:32
Coronary artery disease (also called coronary heart disease) NCLEX lecture video on the nursing interventions, treatment, and medications for CAD. CAD is the build up of fatty plaques due to atherosclerosis that causes the arteries of the heart to become narrow. This leads to restrictive blood supply to the heart muscle which can lead to chest pain (stable or unstable angina) to myocardial infraction (MI). Nursing interventions for coronary heart disease include education about modifying lifestyle such as smoking cessation, diet (low fat and calorie), and exercise. Medication management plays another role in coronary artery disease management. As the nurse, it is important to provide education to patients about being compliant with medications, how to take them, and possible side effects. Medications for CAD include nitrates (Nitroglycerin), antiplatelets (Aspirin or Plavix), statins (Lipitor), beta blockers (Metoprolol), or ACE inhibitors (Lisinopril). The main coronary arteries that supply the heart with blood include the left and right coronary artery. The left coronary artery branches off into the left circumflex artery and left anterior descending artery. The right coronary artery branches off into the right marginal artery and posterior descending artery. If ischemia has been present for a long time collateral circulation can develop as well. This is where tiny blood vessel re-route blood supply to the heart to pass the blockage. Signs and symptoms of heart disease include: chest pain (especially with activity and is relieved with rest which is known as stable angina), shortness of breath, feeling very tired. Coronary artery disease is diagnosed in various ways: lipid profile which measures the cholesterol levels, EKG, stress test, heart catheterization. Don't forget to check out part 1 of this lecture which covers the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors, and treatments for coronary artery disease. Generic Plavix Release Date ( clopidogrel ) May 17th 2012 Release date

00:25
Looks like my date was off just a little. Your pharmacy should have the generic Plavix on May 19th or 20th. We were able to order some on the 18th. Most Pharmacies will pay about $4.00 to $11.00 cost for 30 tablets. AWP [Average Wholesale Price] is very high about $600.00 to $1,000.00 for 30 tablets. Ask your Pharmacist questions about AWP, Cost, and Retail price if you think your final price is too high. This may be one of those drugs that will be cheaper to pay cash price for than to use your insurance. !!!!! Update release date May 17th 2012 per message from local drug rep. !!!!!! Plavix should be released as a generic product in the 2nd quarter of 2012. May 2012 Brand name : Plavix Generic name : Clopidogrel

Drug-Eluting Stents: information and side effects

06:28
Drug-eluting stents are coated with drugs that are slowly released and help keep open a blood vessel/artery. The inside lining of the artery (the endothelium) grows over the metal surface of the stent and patients are put on anti-clotting medicines, such as Plavix and/or aspirin. In addition to the increased drug-eluting stent blood clot risk, patients also risk Plavix side effects, such as severe gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, heart attacks, strokes and death. Plavix / Aspirin Side Effects & Benefits of EARTHING

12:57
The side effects of a Plavix/Aspirin regime is twice as likely to end in death than just Aspirin alone. I'm going more natural and implementing Grounding and Earthing techniques. Now remember, I did not have a blockage & had no stints put in. It was a spasm. therefore more STRESS related. Therefore common sense would say I need to change my how I respond to normal life stress. So now it is my responsibility to manage my stress. OK. Take a deep breath. Don't sweat the small stuff. Working on meditation, grounding & earthing. _________________________ THANK YOU so much for all my new subscribers. ----------------------------------------- Resources: CONCLUSIONS In this trial, there was a suggestion of benefit with clopidogrel treatment in patients with symptomatic atherothrombosis and a suggestion of harm in patients with multiple risk factors. Overall, clopidogrel plus aspirin was not significantly more effective than aspirin alone in reducing the rate of myocardial infarction, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes.
