Effects During Pregnancy: One of the serious biotin effects is during pregnancy. Pregnant women should avoid taking high doses of Biotin. This vitamin may increase the risk of miscarriage. Though no tests have been performed on humans to confirm this, it is always better to consult a doctor before taking biotin during pregnancy. 4. Frequency Of Urination: There have been unsubstantiated reports that higher dosage of biotin can cause an increase in the need to urinate. There can be an unusual amount of sweating too due to the consumption of biotin in high dosages. 5. May Cause Diarrhea: Individuals on a high dosage of this supplement may also suffer from stomach cramps and diarrhea. When such a condition is observed, it is best to stop biotin consumption immediately! 6. Nausea: Many of those who take biotin supplements complain of mild nausea during the initial stages. With time, this side effect tends to taper off. 7. May Increase Blood Glucose Levels: A study has shown that biotin supplement is not recommended for those with diabetes as this vitamin increases the production of glucose and fatty acids in the body. It is better to consult a doctor, so as to not overdo the dosage of biotin supplements if you have diabetes. 8. Drug Interactions: Biotin has a negative interaction with anti-seizure and cholesterol-lowering medication. High dosage of biotin supplements can cause these drugs to work less efficiently. It can have an impact on the symptoms of diabetes. 9. Eosinophilic Pleuropericardial Effusion In a single reported case, the extremely rare condition of Eosinophilic Pleuropericardial Effusion was noticed in women taking biotin supplements along with Vitamin B5. A severe reaction occurred with the blood and air entering the pleural cavity space around the lungs, causing a major pulmonary infection, which turned into a life-threatening condition. 10. I’m 48 and I’ve got all the symptoms of having low testosterone. I’ve been doing my research. My doctor says “don’t worry, this is normal”. I then read some other expert saying how I should increase it, so I can be healthier. And then I read the exact opposite from another “expert” saying that increasing it can cause health problems and even cancer. PLEASE HELP me, I’m so confused and I’m so tired of all the contradictory information - what should I do?” One of the biggest problems with aging, are hormonal imbalances. There are lots of them, but today I’m going to focus on testosterone levels - which affect BOTH men and women. Even though, it does manifest itself much more so in men because of erectile dysfunction, impotence and of course muscle loss and fat gain. So the problem is that as you age, your testosterone levels start decreasing. This starts around your mid 20’s. The decline accelerates in your 30’s and really starts to drop hard around your 40’s and beyond At this point, most guys really DO need to increase their testosterone back to it’s youthful levels, so they can look and feel younger again. Not to mention, low testosterone levels causes many health problems and diseases -- such as heart disease high cholesterol and blood pressure Poor blood blood flow and circulation diabetes and high blood sugar mental decline and memory loss Depression, anxiety and yes, even CANCER! So again, the goal is to increase your testosterone levels, to their higher, youthful levels. Your Testosterone Boosting Options And to do this, you can either take prescription testosterone “exogenously”, from the outside… such as testosterone injections or creams containing the drug “testosterone”. Or you can do it naturally, “endogenously”, from within… By taking specific herbs, vitamins and minerals. And of course, improving your lifestyle as well. The REAL Problem! Now, the problem with increasing your testosterone is that as you age, your body starts to convert the testosterone to more “anti-testosterone” hormones that LOWER your testosterone. So, let’s say you try to increase your testosterone with a drug (exogenously) or supplements (endogenously). Your body initially and TEMPORARILY increases your testosterone. Which is great. But soon after, it all drops again back to lower levels because your body quickly does 3 things: [1] It lowers testosterone by converting it to more female hormones, such as estrogen. This causes fat again, depression and “man” boobs. [2] It also lowers testosterone by converting it to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) - this accelerates balding, extra body hair and prostate problems. [3] Finally, there’s an increase in stress and adrenal hormones, such as cortisol. And each of these 3 “conversions”, further lowers the testosterone back to “low” levels again. So, not only are back to having “low” testosterone again like you originally did. But now you have an even BIGGER problem -- HIGH estrogen, DHT and stress hormones!!! THIS is now the reason you are at a higher risk for cancer and various diseases. So the solution is that you need to REDUCE the conversion to these 3 “negative” hormones. You don’t want to block them completely because they are needed and have important roles. You just want to “lower” them. The real problem is that 99% of doctor’s don’t do this and don’t know how to do this and the truth is, they don’t really even care because it’s very complicated. If taking testosterone injections, you’d have to take drugs that also inhibit estrogen, DHT and cortisol. Not only does this get very expensive, all of these drugs have their own problems and negative side-effects. You can also take supplements that do this - the benefit is, no negative side-effects. Unfortunately, it can get complicated and very expensive because you’ll need to take like 6-8 different herbs and minerals to reduce these “negative aging” hormones. ========================================­ Thank you for watching. Red Yeast Rice The Truth Behind This Controversial Cholesterol-Lowering Supplement. The most well-known of red yeast rice benefits is by far its potential to lower cholesterol. Many people with high cholesterol turn to red yeast rice supplements to avoid the dangers of statins. These cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins have been linked with some really concerning side effects, including memory loss, liver damage, muscle pain, high blood sugar, and even development of type 2 diabetes. (1) Scientific studies have demonstrated that supplementing with red yeast rice can lower overall as well as LDL cholesterol, aka “bad cholesterol.” (2) According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, benefits of red yeast rice also include improvements in circulation and digestion. Red yeast rice supplements are extremely popular so let’s take a look at the possible benefits as well as the controversy surrounding this natural over-the-counter remedy. What Is Red Yeast Rice?. So what is red yeast rice? Sometimes called RYR for short, red yeast rice is created by fermenting a type of yeast called Monascus purpureus with rice. Once the rice is combined with the fermenting yeast, the resulting red yeast rice is bright reddish purple in color. Red yeast rice extract (RYRE) is used to make a red yeast rice supplement. So what makes RYR possibly beneficial to health concerns like high cholesterol? The interesting thing is that it has naturally occurring chemical called monacolins, which block the production of cholesterol. One of these monacolins sometimes found in RYR supplements, called monacolin K, has been controversial because this chemical is said to be an active statin-like compound with the same chemical makeup as popularly prescribed statins like lovastatin and mevinolin. (3) This is a concern because we know the potential dangers of statins include muscle pain and weakness, neuropathy, heart failure, dizziness, cognitive impairment, cancer, pancreatic rot and depression. Experts aren’t clear on whether RYR successfully lowers cholesterol because it contains monacolins or because of its naturally occurring plant compounds like phytosterols and isoflavones as well as its unsaturated fatty acid content. Some researchers believe that since the monacolin in red yeast rice is less than what is found in prescription statins these other substances must also play a role in red yeast rice’s ability to decrease cholesterol. (4) In 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began to regulate manufactures of RYR supplements and said that supplements containing monacolin K are considered drugs rather than dietary supplements. Since that time, the FDA has taken legal action against companies making red yeast rice supplements with greater than trace amounts of monacolin K. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, “Despite the FDA actions, some red yeast rice products currently on the market in the United States may contain monacolin K. (Some products tested as recently as 2011 have been found to contain it in substantial amounts.) Other products may contain little or none of this component.” (5) I’ll talk more about choosing the best RYR supplements, but first, let’s talk about the possible health benefits. 5 Health Benefits of Red Yeast Rice. 1. Help for High Cholesterol. Red yeast rice supplements are most often taken to naturally lower hyperlipidemia or high cholesterol. The red yeast (Monascus purpureus) used to make RYR has been shown to stop the action of an enzyme in the human body that helps form cholesterol. There have been a lot of studies showing the positive effects of red yeast rice extract on cholesterol. Another study published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation evaluated the effects of red yeast rice (also called Went rice) on 79 patients with high cholesterol between 23 and 65 years of age. These patients took either 600 milligrams of red yeast rice or a placebo two times per day for a total of eight weeks. The study results revealed that the subjects who took the RYR showed “significantly greater reduction” in LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels as well as total cholesterol.
