Workout Supplement and Vitamins (Jeff Cavaliere’s Exact Plan)

In this video, I cover the exact choices I make when it comes to the supplements I use to help me build muscle and stay lean year round. From the vitamins and minerals I take to the workout protein powders and formulas, everything I take in a day is covered and explained. For me, my morning starts with my essential fatty acids. I take both an omega-6 fatty acid in the form of evening primrose oil, as well as a high grade pharmaceutical omega-3 fish oil. The primrose is something I take because I tend to eat a very clean diet almost devoid of the highly processed foods that commonly are in abundance in the average diet. That combined with the fact that I carry a low body fat percentage year round, tends to make my essential omega-6’s that much more essential. I also have Reynaud’s, which is a form of impaired circulation to the hands and feet, that primrose oil has been shown to be helpful in treating. The omega-3’s are taken once in the morning, and again at lunch and at dinner. The grade of the oils is of prime importance when choosing an omega-3. Like prescription grade lovaza, Dr. C’s Omega-3’s are an incredibly potent form of essential fatty acids that have been shown to not only promote overall health and well being but also speed up muscle recovery by helping you recover from muscle inflammation. I take 1500mg of vitamin C, 1000 iu of vitamin E, CoQ10 and green tea extract to meet these needs here. As I point out in the video, I do get adequate levels of both C and E in y diet, however I still take these as an insurance policy and investment in my own health. Just be sure that you don’t take too much vitamin E as it is a fat soluble vitamin that can be taken in excess and not easily removed from the body. Green tea extract provides additional blood sugar stabilizing effects via it’s impact on insulin sensitivity and therefore finds it’s way into my daily supplement regime every morning. Each of the above vitamins are taken once with breakfast as described in the video. Next I take the ultimate insurance policy, a multivitamin. I believe again that while we tend to get the majority of our major vitamins from food, we do not necessarily address all of our micronutrient needs (especially if we tend to follow somewhat restrictive eating plans or styles) so I feel more comfortable taking a multi as a backup. One of the most important areas of late for me has been joint recovery supplementation. Having dealt with a bad right shoulder from a torn labrum, as well as two bad knees, I not only felt the need to take but actually set out and developed what I feel is the absolute most comprehensive joint recovery formula available. Vitamin B12 – What Causes B12 Deficiency & Good B12 Sources
What is vitamin B12, where do you get it and what depletes it? What are the best sources of vitamin B12? If you got a blood test and they told you your B12 was low, it doesn’t mean anything. Serum B12 levels do not reflect true B12 levels since most B12 in the body is stored in the liver and blood tests do not determine stored B12 levels.   http://www.MarkusNews.com B12 is stored in the body for years and years and the odds are that in that time, you will accumulate more B12. Vitamin B12 is basically bacteria poop. In the natural world, (the way we were designed to live), you would pull a carrot out of the ground, brush it off and eat it. There would be little bits of dirt and millions of microscopic organisms all over that carrot. B12! Do you actually think in the 5-7 years B12 stays in your body, you are not going to be exposed to some dirt and bacteria? Heck, even your own gut bacteria, (your probiotics) produce some B12. They say vegetarians and vegans need to supplement B12 because they don’t eat meat. That’s another joke. 90 percent of America is meat eaters and 60 percent of America is deficient in B12, … so how come half the meat eaters are low in B12? Well lets look at why meat eaters sometimes have more B12. It’s not rocket science. Meat is rotting flesh. There’s a lot of nasty bacteria in meat. The minute anything is killed- plant or animal, it starts to decay. Decaying meat requires more aggressive and dangerous bacteria than plants. If you lived in nature only eating plants, you’d be getting more than enough B12. There’s even some B12 in my green formula. Seaweed is a great source of B12. Those of you who get my Sea Moss, haha- what an experience when you open that bag huh? All dirty and smelly. What a nasty fishy smell. That’s what stuff is like when you take it fresh right out of the ocean. It’s FULL of B12. Even after washing and soaking it multiple times, there is still B12 stuck in the tiny pores. There’s B12 in nutritional yeast, even kale and farm produce that still has some dirt stuck in the cracks. Remember also, you have 5 pounds of beneficial bacteria in your gut which also produces some B12. You can feed them and make them stronger by eating more fiber- that's what they love to eat. Then there’s fermented and cultured foods- a GREAT source of B12. Every little bit adds up. And since it stays in your body for years, odds are you are getting enough B12. Now it’s possible that you may actually be low in B12. So the REAL question isn’t “where do I get B12”,…it should be “what’s robbing me of B12 and how can I stop it?” The answer to all of your health issues should not be “what do I take” but “what do I STOP doing that’s causing the problem in the first place”, otherwise you are simply trying to patch holes in a sinking ship. The first place to look is your stomach. B12 is acid dependent for absorption. Older people have B12 issues not because they don’t have enough B12 in their body, but because it can’t ABSORB properly because stomach acidity declines with age. Bread, bagels and other wheat products absorb stomach acid like a sponge. They also turn into simple sugars which feeds candida yeast and H Pylori which radically deplete stomach acid. Antacids, baking soda and alkaline water cancels out stomach acid. Most people have low stomach acid as a result from not knowing what and how to eat.  Almost everybody, even raw foodists are sugar addicts and they choose what to eat based on how it tastes, not what they really need, resulting in a body that doesn't work right. Ok, anyway, if you want B12 to absorb, you need strong stomach acid for for that you need to cut down on bread and sugar and start adding more bitter things to your diet. You can rebuild stomach acid by using more acids in your diet like apple cider vinegar, lemon etc, and also sea salt, B-complex vitamins and 50 mg zinc with meals, plus bitter greens like arugula, endives, watercress etc and also my liver formula.  Do NOT drink alkaline water! This speeds up the whole mess of weakening stomach acid, nutrient absorption, lower B12 etc. Another thing that lowers stomach acid is adrenal burnout, the biggest factors being stress and stimulants- coffee, energy drinks, sugar, stuff like that. You can strengthen your adrenals with adaptogenic herbs like licorice root, ashwagandha, schizandra berry, astragalus, jiaogulan, nettle leaf and alma berry. As B12 pills go, sublingual methylcobalamin is the kind you want, not cyanocobalamin. Sure you can pop a B12 pill. But listen to what I’m saying. Coffee also helps stimulate the liver and increases circulation, helping blood flow to the brain. Coffee can be harmful in some ways because of the amount of caffeine it contains. For this group, I wouldn’t recommend coffee because it will burn out your adrenal glands. However, if you’re generally healthy, then drinking coffee in moderate amounts can be fine, and even good for your health. I wouldn’t recommend drinking coffee past lunch time because it can affect your sleep cycle that night. Depending on the condition of your body, if you’re suffering from an autoimmune disease, coffee can make your disease worse. If you’re pretty healthy, looking for a pick-me-up, or looking for more antioxidants, then coffee can provide you these benefits. When picking out your coffee beans, I would recommend choosing all natural, organic coffee because it’s one of the most highly sprayed plants in the world. Fish can become contaminated in a number of ways - size, species, age and location determine contamination levels. Heavy Metals: Mercury and Lead- Mercury is known to cause many health problems and is especially dangerous for children and women who are or may become pregnant. It can take 12-18 months for mercury to pass through the body, so women who may become pregnant should also work hard to avoid mercury. The nervous system and kidneys are the main targets of mercury. Children exposed to mercury may cause mental development problems, including coordination and learning handicaps. Anyone can experience mercury health effects, including: fatigue, dizziness, numbness or tingling, memory and coordination problems, irritability.If enough mercury is consumed, permanent brain and kidney damage can occur. This is common to bodybuilders, athletes and anyone with low enough body fat levels to be able to see them. In this video, I’m going to show you how to eat for more vascularity and I’m going to dish up the truth about how to do it in the process. No shortcuts or gimmicks tolerated here. Just plain old science and a “say it like it is” approach to make sure you can get more veins safely if this is what you’re after. To start, I am going to require that you immediately recognize that there is one thing that must be locked in if you want to get more visible veins and that is your nutrition. I don’t care how you are training or what supplement you are taking. You will not be able to see your veins unless you are at a low enough body fat to make it possible. The rough benchmark number we use is 10 percent body fat. At this level, everyone will be able to see at least some vascularity when looking in the mirror. It may appear to be more visible on one person than another at the same body fat level which can be due to temporary hydration levels, skin thickness, etc. The bottom line though is, getting down to this level is a great goal and starting point for anyone looking to be able to see more veins popping out of their muscles. Every single percent that you drop your body fat from here can have noticeable and significant increases in the amount of vascularity that you can see. For example, if you were to get to 8 percent body fat you will likely be able to see veins in your chest and shoulders and not just your forearms. Get even lower and you will be seeing veins in your abs. How low you want to go is up to your individual goals however it is advisable that you do not drop any lower than 5% body fat at absolute max if you want to remain healthy at the same time. The strategy for getting to these lower body fat levels are always going to revolve around nutrition first. Things like supplementation and cardio, etc are all adjuncts that rely on the presence of a sound nutrition plan before you can even start talking seriously about them. The eating strategy has to be able to put you in a slight hypocaloric state. I say slight because while getting veins to show by being in severely depleted hypocaloric state is possible, it certainly isn’t healthy. Your goal should be to be very slightly hypocaloric, in the range of just a couple hundred calories a day. You should have a long term time goal as well. Getting ripped and vascular the right way should never be about short term gains and crash diets to get you there. You should know by now that this channel is not about shortcuts but science. Getting you to your goals, whatever they may be, the right way and the safe way is always the priority here as it not sacrificing your performance in the gym or on the field in the process. Once your nutrition is in place you can look towards increasing the intake of foods that either contain more niacin or some plant based nitrates. Both of these will have the end effect of either increasing peripheral blood flow or the vasodilation of the vessels perfusing your muscles. The same can be accomplished with supplementation. The simple fact of the matter is that bone density plays a big role in everything that we are working towards, whether it's fitness or long-term health. The lame thing is, most of the industry and most of the mainstream is leading us totally astray. They're telling us that calcium is the most important thing, when in reality, when it comes down to bone health, when it comes down to making sure your tendons and your joints and everything are really functioning at their best, there are a lot of other things that are much more critical to pay attention to. So in this video, I'm going to address the truth behind bone density and the truth behind the minerals that you truly need. Let's start with Vitamin D, because it's one that a lot of people know about. It's one of the big right now, everyone's talking about it. Simple fact of the matter is, getting your Vitamin D from sunlight is always going to be the best bet. You can take a supplemental Vitamin D, but here's the thing. Some people have their opinions, and there's some science that's starting to show that taking Vitamin D3 could deplete your Retinol levels. Now I'm not saying don't take a Vitamin D supplement, but what I am saying is making sure that you're modulating it. See, what Vitamin D does, is it helps corral the calcium and put it into the right places. That's why when you look on a carton of milk a lot of times it will say, "Calcium plus Vitamin D", because they do sort of work kind of harmoniously. But what we have to remember is that we don't want to over do it, if anything. Getting it from sunlight, always going to be the best. However, there was one study that was published in 2005 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, that found that just taking 700 to 800 IUs of Vitamin D daily did dramatically decrease the risk of hip fractures in post menopausal women. Now, that's not the end-all-be-all, doesn't mean everything, but it is just some science to explain to you. But now, let's talk about calcium for a second. Okay, calcium, we're led to believe is the end-all-be-all. We are likely not deficient in calcium. Between dairy, between almonds, between salmon, between leafy greens, it is highly unlikely that you have a deficiency in calcium. In fact, if you were to actually get your blood work done, you'd probably find you're not that deficient in calcium. We're quite frankly a little bit brainwashed to believe that we inherently have a deficiency in calcium, when in reality calcium and magnesium work together and magnesium plays a bigger role than we might think. You see, magnesium can actually help regulate the serum levels of calcium in the body. Magnesium actually regulates the calcium transport in the body. In fact, there is a positive correlation between magnesium levels and calcium that's going into the bones. Yeah, believe it or not, more magnesium equals more density in the bones. Now what we have to do is we have to understand the relationship between calcium and magnesium, because in a lot of ways, they're sort of the opposite. Whereas calcium excites a cell, magnesium encourages the relaxation of that cell. Then where calcium causes the blood to clot, magnesium generally helps keep blood flowing. The same kind of thing when it comes down to muscle contractions. Calcium is going to increase the muscle's ability to contract, whereas magnesium is going to allow that muscle to relax. It's not a good thing or a bad thing, we just have to remember that relationship, and the yin and the yang and the balance between calcium and magnesium. Here's the problem. Most people in the western world are consuming three and a half times as much calcium as they are magnesium. If you're looking at balance here, how does that equate? This study was published in 1993 in the Journal of Magnesium Research. What it did, is it took a look at 31 postmenopausal women. These women, they compared to a control group. The 31 women, they gave 125mg of magnesium six times per day for two years. Then, the other group they gave nothing. It was a control group. References 1. Drink this solution two or three times a day. Lemon Juice Though it may seem that lemon juice will make the body more acidic, in actuality, it produces an alkaline effect and helps neutralize uric acid.
