Are Vitamin D Drops Necessary for BreastFed Babies?

06:33
One of the very first Medical Lies I remember being taught in medical school was that Vitamin D drops were necessary for exclusively breastfed babies because human mothers don't secrete Vitamin D in their breast milk. It struck me as very odd at the time, but I was too busy and too tired to research it, so I filed it away for later. A few years later I finally had time to look into this "fact" and I found a large study done by a researcher in the Carolinas which showed this to be just what it was, a medical lie. I was so happy to find out this wasn't true, when lactating moms are given the right building blocks to make their milk with... Pregnancy And Nursing - Is Breastmilk Deficient in Vitamin D?

01:51
What supplement should you take during pregnancy? The good ones have Probiotics, those are the friendly bacteria, aids in absorption and potency. 4,000 units of vitamin D3, and we recommend even more vitamin d3. For pregnant women, we recommend a minimum of 10,000 units of vitamin d3 as this has become very important not only for pregnancy but for nursing as well. The American Academy of Pediatrics has made the statement that "Breast Milk Contains No Vitamin D" and they are almost right because most women and most pregnant women just don't get enough Vitamin D. Either through direct sunlight exposure or by taking supplementation. The studies have shown that if pregnant women and nursing mothers get enough Vitamin D, There Breast Milk is LOADED with vitamin D.This is why it is immparative to get that minimum of 10,000 units of Vitamin D3 a day. How do you know if you have enough? Measure, get your vitamin D level checked, 60 ng per ml that's the magic number. EisensteinCenter.com

Why Breast Milk isn’t enough for your Baby’s Vitamin D

Soak up that sunshine mums and mums-to-be! Since breast milk won't provide enough of this amazing hormone you have only one choice and that's to top up before or whilst you're pregnant! How much is enough sunshine? In spring, summer, autumn when the UV index is 3 or higher you just need a 6-8 minutes outdoors around 10am or 2pm. During winter when the UV index falls below 3, aim to spend 15 mins around the midday sun ☀️ Ps. U won't need to apply sunscreen in the above situations. Be sensible if you're outdoors at other times and apply sunscreen! PPS. Where do u find the UV index? It's built-in to the iPhone weather app just swipe up. For android I dunno but there's the SunSmart app. Download it here: http://www.sunsmart.com.au/tools/interactive-tools/free-sunsmart-app ----------------------------------- Phone: (02) 8068 7131 ----------------------------------- Follow us at: Instagram: https://instagram.com/canterburylatenightpharmacy Twitter: https://twitter.com/canterburylnp Facebook: https://facebook.com/canterburylatenight Website/Blog: https://canterburylatenightpharmacy.com.au/blogs/

Formula Feeding vs. Breastfeeding | Baby Development

02:02
Watch more Newborn & Baby Development videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506146-Formula-Feeding-vs-Breastfeeding-Baby-Development Parents always want to know, "What should we do? Formula or breast milk?" As a pediatrician, I always recommend breast milk and breastfeeding, although that's not the right answer for every single family. What I like to recommend is happy baby, happy mother, happy mother, happy baby. I will never force a mother to breastfeed who does not want to breastfeed. We do know that breast milk offers fantastic protection for a baby's immune system. The immunoglobulins that get transferred from the mother to the baby stay with the baby for the rest of their life. The gut is colonized initially and the baby is much less likely to get diarrheal infections, to get ear infections, much less likely to have asthma. It's protected against a lot of common illnesses in childhood. That being said, not all mothers feel breastfeeding is right for them. You don't have to exclusively breastfeed. Some moms breastfeed during the day and they give formula at night. Some moms alternate and some moms don't breastfeed at all. And that's fine, too. The formula that is available on the market now provides a baby with all the vitamins and nutrients as comparable to human breast milk. You have to talk to your doctor - which formula would be right for your baby? We recommend babies who drink formula start with cow's milk formula. If there's something wrong - the baby's not tolerating it, the baby has severe rash or bloody diarrhea - let your doctor know and the doctor will help you choose a different formula for your baby. Babies who are exclusively breastfed at two weeks of age should start Vitamin D drops, 400 units a day. Babies who are on formula do not need to take vitamins because all of the vitamins are supplemented in the formula. Every family has to figure what out is right for them. Society often pressures parents to do things that they might not feel comfortable about, and that's when you need to talk to your doctor. Some moms want to only breastfeed and don't want to pump. Some moms only want to pump and don't want to breastfeed. Whatever is right for you is what you have to do for your baby, because baby will not thrive if the mom or family is not happy.

Vitamins D,E,K PART 2 - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim

07:40
Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes different vitamins. Vitamin D and PTH (parathyroid hormone) are important for calcium hemostasis. Vitamin D is important for proper maturation and development of the bone. Vitamin D is naturally found in Tuna, Salmon and Cod liver oil. Vitamin D and K are not present in sufficient quantity in breast milk. Production in the body: Precursor for vitamin D is found in the skin. Cholesterol derived precursor (pro-vitamin D3) is formed in the liver and stored in the skin. UV light converts it to pre-vitamin D3. The liver will then convert it to 25 hydroxyvitamin D3. Then the kidney will convert it to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, which is the active form of vitamin D3. PTH regulates the active form of vitamin D3. Active vitamin D3 stimulates the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine. Low vitamin D levels lead to rickets. Low vitamin D rickets is the most common form of rickets worldwide. In adults, it leads to osteomalacia. Looser zones are stress fractures in patients with osteomalacia. Darker skin individuals should have more sun exposure. Vitamin D resistant rickets: the most common form of rickets in the United States. Also known as familial hypophosphatemic rickets. It is an X-linked inherited disease (dominant). The defective mineralization of bone in osteomalacia leads to a qualitative defect of bone with a high amount of unmineralized osteoid matrix. Osteoporosis, on the other hand, is a quantitative defect of bone. Vitamin D deficiency is considered when blood levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin D3 fall below 20 ng/ml. vitamin D levels are usually found to be low in patients with low energy fractures. Vitamin D deficiency is found in the majority of patients with endocrine or metabolic problems presenting with fracture non-unions. Dilantin (phenytoin) inhibits vitamin D formation in the liver. Decreased exposure to sun light and decreased intake of vitamin D are risk factors for developing Multiple Sclerosis. Recent research has also demonstrated a link between low vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels and the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Daily requirements of vitamin D are 400-800 international units. Vitamin D and calcium are given for female athletic triad. Vitamin E Vitamin E affects peripheral nerves and is a major antioxidant as it stabilizes free radicals and reduces the potential for oxidative damage. Vitamin E prevents peroxidation of fatty acids in cell membranes, helping to maintain their normal fluidity. Vitamin E also has some enzymatic activity. Deficiency of Vitamin E can lead to hemolysis, neurological problems, and retinitis pigmentosa. Vitamin E is found in milk, nuts, corn oil, sunflower oil, avocados, asparagus, and broccoli. Vitamin K Vitamin K is needed to introduce calcium binding sites on Vitamin K dependent clotting factors in order to activate them. Without Vitamin K the blood will not clot. This process is called gamma-carboxylation of glutamic acid. Vitamin K dependent factors are 1972 (factors: 10, 9, 7, 2,). Vitamin K is found in green leafy vegetables. Causes of Vitamin K deficiency include fat malabsorption, prolonged use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, breast-fed newborns, and infants of mothers taking Phenytoin (Dilantin). How to differentiate between Vitamin K and Vitamin C deficiencies? Vitamin K deficiency: easy bruising and bleeding, normal bleeding time and increased prothrombin time, no connective tissue problems. Vitamin C deficiency: easy bruising and bleeding, prolonged bleeding time and normal prothrombin time. Vitamin C deficiency patients have skeletal deformities, gum hyperplasia and bleeding, and poor wound healing. Coumadin is a vitamin K antagonist. Coumadin affects vitamin K metabolism in the liver, leading to the inhibition of vitamin K dependent clotting factors (1972). The therapeutic target level for Coumadin is an INR of 2-3. It takes 3 days to reach that therapeutic level and takes another 3 days to reverse it by vitamin K. fresh frozen plasma would act immediately. Protamine sulfate and fresh frozen plasma would work immediately in the case of heparin. 7 Tips about Vitamins for Infants | Baby Development

01:59
Watch more Newborn & Baby Development videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506163-7-Tips-about-Vitamins-for-Infants-Baby-Development A newborn baby who is breastfed should start taking Vitamin D supplements at approximately two weeks of age. We like to make sure that the latch is established and the baby is breastfeeding well, but after that we do like to introduce Vitamin D, because the Vitamin D in breast milk is not transferred well and absorbed well by the baby, so those babies do need extra Vitamin D. It's sold over the counter. It's one dropper full, which is one mL, 400 units per day. Babies who are bottle-fed standard cow's milk or soy milk formula or any of the standardized formulas, actually, they are all supplemented with vitamins, so you do not need to give a baby who is on formula vitamins. That being said, some parents do believe in vitamins, and they like to give supplements. Vitamins for children do not cause harm if used in a small dosage, like the recommended child dosage that's over the counter. After age one, the baby can take the liquid drops. There are certain name brands, but it's a children multi-vitamin that's over the counter. If your doctor recommends that your baby needs iron, you might give a vitamin supplemented with iron as well. At four months, sometimes babies need more iron, especially babies who are not taking solids yet. So at four months, some doctors recommend Vitamin D drops with iron or a multi-vitamin with iron for your baby. Those are not written with a prescription, but you should discuss with your doctor what vitamins your baby needs or does not need. In addition, in different states and different localities, some of the water is fluorinated and some is not, so you need to find out if the water in your child's neighborhood is fluorinated or if you need to give your child a fluoride supplement. In New York City, the water has fluoride, so we do not give our children fluoride in the drops because that would be excess fluoride, and it would cause staining of the teeth. As a child grows, if your child eats a well-balanced diet, they do not need to take a vitamin. I often say that the more expensive the vitamin, the more expensive the urine because they usually just excrete most of it out.

My 2 month old's vitamin D drops keep him awake. What can I do?

01:35
The American academy and pediatrics dose recommend that all breast feed babies receive a vitamin D supplement because human milk dose not contain enough vitamin D and a vitamin D deficiency can lead to certain diseases or health conditions one of which is rickets and our bodies naturally synthesize vitamin D by getting sun exposure but obviously we are not taking our babies out and exposing them to the sun they should wear sun screen and for the first few months of life be protected from the sun. So its very important to give this vitamin supplement. Now you noticed that your little one doesn't like it and they seem to be aware more alert after they've gotten it and his could just be the taste, its not a stimulant of any kind, its not something that would actually keep your baby up but just the taste alone would wake your baby wake up and not necessary your feel comfortable. So because its important you need to always weigh out the risk and benefits of different things. There is a few things you could try for example give it when your baby is going to be up and alert not when your baby is trying to go to sleep and also wash it down with a nursing session afterwards or with a bottle and you also could if you wanted to put a couple of drops into pumped breast milk and feed it to your baby in a bottle if you are bottle feeding your baby at times. If you have any other questions about it don't hesitate to ask your pediatrician and they can tell you risk versus benefits and maybe shed some more light on it for you. But if you have any other questions for me in the future feel free to ask them on our Facebook page facebook.com/intermountainmom and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Discussion of breastfeeding, Vitamin D and the sun. American Academy of Pediatrics is jumping on the subject of whether or not there is a Vitamin D deficiency. In Italy, babies are brought outside allmost immediately, shaded. Babies under 6 months cannot have sunblock put on them - zinc and loose fit light clothing - will absorb reflected sunlight,. North Americans in general are suffering from a lack of Vitamin D. Healthykids.org - good resource. Linking lack of Vitamin D to childhood asthma - if there is any proof, it has not yet been reported.

So you go to the grocery store and you observe all these milks coming out, soy milk and rice milk and you're like 'wow that's probably really healthy", not for kids, not for small infants especially. What can happen, it can create a very severe deficiencies, B12, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin A but especially DHA and EPA. These two fats are essential in the development of a growing infant especially for the brain, for the endocrine system and these are healthy fats, they're omega 3 fatty acids. You're retarding the growth of the child, you're affecting the cognitive function, the vision can be affected, the retina of the eye and even the entire brain needs large amounts of DHA. So even in breast milk you have over a 160 different fatty acids loaded with DHA and EPA. So you need these certain healthy fats for vision, for brain development, for nervous system, for the central nervous system development, to prevent learning disabilities, to support the immune system, to support a growing endocrine system, so you definitely don't want to give your baby even a small child any of these right here. Alright, so what would be the best solution for an infant? breast milk. So if you absolutely positively cannot breastfeed, you can make your own formula. The formula that I recommend is by Weston a Price. I put a links down below with several mothers creating these formulas. So you can check it out. It's a little bit of work but it's definitely worth it. Alright, thanks for watching! Do breast fed babies need vitamin supplement?- Dr. Jyothi Raghuram

00:56
Routinely breast fed babies do not need any vitamin supplements, however as per the American Academy of Paediatric Guidelines, we do prescribe Vitamin D for infants and for children up to the age of 5 years as the recommended daily allowance may not be met with diet and sunlight exposure. Milk is also deficient in iron or the iron that is available in breast milk is not absorbed very well, after about 6 months of age, iron drops are also routinely prescribed to infants .

What are the dietary requirements for a breastfeeding mother? - Dr. Sanjeev Reddy

01:39
There is no special dietary requirements as long as the mother is able to eat a well balanced diet. We all consume a mixture of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. You should be eating cereals, pulses, dairy products and fruits and vegetables.. nnFluid intake is important because breast milk is mostly fluid, so you have to make sure you drink adequate amounts of fluid in addition to consuming a well balanced diet.. nnIf you are known to be deficient in certain minerals, like if you have a Vitamin D deficiency or iron deficiency, then it pays to take some supplements yourself so that the breast milk that is produced has these minerals..

My 5 month old is only breastfed. Should I also give him vitamin D and iron supplements?

01:29
You have a really good question. You want to know if your 5-month-old should be receiving Vitamin D and iron supplements at five months of age and you're exclusively breastfeeding. When it comes to iron, most babies are born with the iron reserve that they need and there is iron in breast milk and there's definitely iron-fortified formula. But some babies don't have enough reserve or don't get enough and they do need supplements. This is usually discovered when the doctor takes a sample of your baby's blood and does a test, finds out the iron levels are low and then recommends a supplement. So unless your doctor said anything, you don't really need to worry about it. But it's always worth bringing it up with the doctor and then they can decide if further investigation or treatment is warranted sooner than when they would have tested it anyway. When it comes to Vitamin D supplements, the American Academy of Pediatrics does recommend that Vitamin D supplements are given to babies, even infants who are breastfed. Vitamin D is naturally synthesized in our bodies when we're exposed to sunlight but we don't expose our infants to sunlight and as they get older, we put sunscreen all over them and so this is one of the reasons why Vitamin D supplements are necessary until about a year of age when babies switch to whole milk. But again, don't give any supplements to your baby until you've talked with your doctor. If you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family, too.

Kate Middleton and all breastfeeding women at risk of vitamin D deficiency

Kate Middleton, 36, gave birth to her third child, Prince Louis, on April 23. He is the Duchess of Cambridge's second son with Prince William, 35.The couple showed off the royal baby to the waiting media outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital just seven hours after the birth. As with her older children Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, three, it is assumed Kate is breastfeeding Louis. The duchess has never spoken publicly about breastfeeding, but after the birth of George in 2013, she was photographed leaving Kensington Palace wearing a dress by maternity wear designers Seraphine, made specifically to make breastfeeding easier.Later the brand’s owner Cecile Renaud confirmed the royal was a customer. “Kate’s ordered a couple of breastfeeding styles from us,” she told The Mirror. Vitamin D drops are recommended from birth to one year of age. However, babies who have more than 500ml of infant formula a day don't need a supplement as formula is already fortified, the NHS states. How important is it to give vitamins to a newborn who is breastfeeding?

01:05
You asked a great question. You wanted to know how important is it to supplement a baby and give them vitamins if you're breastfeeding. The composition of human milk is very complicated. Ideally for a full term infant a mother's body will produce the vitamins and nutrients that a baby needs but there are lots of components that go into what's in the breast milk. For one, if the mother's nutrition is lacking then the baby may not get the vitamins and nutrients they need. Specifically sometimes supplementation is needed for vitamin B12, vitamin K, and vitamin D. The vitamins and minerals that are in a mother's milk vary depending on not only her diet but the time of day even sometimes. There are some that are constant but there are others that can vary a lot. If your doctor has recommended that your baby receive vitamins then I would follow their advice. If you have any other specific questions about it do talk to your doctor but if you have any more questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.

How do you safely detox while breast feeding

03:06
http://fitlife.tv/how-do-you-safely-detox-while-breast-feeding/ How do you safely detox while breast feeding Detoxification has been used to get rid of unhealthy toxins and buildup in our cells and tissues. It simply means eliminating toxins from your bloodstream, liver, kidneys, and intestines by means of a particular diet or juicing protocol. While this question has been asked by tons and tons of Juicing Mom fans, the answer will always remain the same, and it is “Don’t”. Never do any detox program while breastfeeding or nursing to your babies. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are both essential period to intake as many nutrients as possible for the healthy growth and development of the baby. You need so much of the calories, protein, carbohydrates, essential fats, minerals, vitamins, fluid, and other important nutrients from different food sources and wide arrays of diet. Another thing is, in the removal of toxins through a cleanse or detox, the waste will re-circulate into the blood stream and possibly absorb into the baby’s blood stream via the placenta or through the breast milk, this is certainly not recommended and could be harmful to the baby. When is the best time to do detox? Detoxing should be done before and after pregnancy. Doing a cleanse or a reset a few months prior to conception is most essentially recommended as juicing can boost fertility and may also improve the health of the baby, and the parents. Important nutrients vital for Mothers and their babies during pregnancy and breastfeeding: Fulvic Acid – this is one of the needed nutrients that many mothers overlook. This important nutrient helps in the development of the baby helping it ward off toxins and other harmful substances that causes birth deficiencies. Protein – we need an extra 10 grams per day. This is important for the growth of all tissue. Here is more on plant protein sources. Calcium – if a pregnant or lactating woman does not intake enough calcium then it will be leached from her bones to ensure the baby’s needs are met for proper development. Vitamin B12 – is essential for proper nerve and brain function for both mother and baby, a deficiency can caia, delayed growth, development and movement disorders. Folate – is essential for the prevention of neural tubal defects and many studies stress the importance of this nutrient pre-conception and during pregnancy. Iodine – Iodine deficiency becomes particularly critical in pregnancy due to neurological damage during fetal development as well as during lactation. Iron – It is recommended to have approximately 30mg per day, double the normal recommendation. Zinc – deficiency has been associated with birth defects and low birth weights. Sources include nuts, seeds, seafood, meats, egg yolk and whole grains. Vitamin D – there are numerous studies associating this deficiency with pre-term labour, low birth weight, pre-eclampsia, poor growth, bone fragility and an increased incidence of auto-immune disease. Vitamin K and C – it is estimated that many women are vitamin K deficient during pregnancy. http://fitlife.tv/how-do-you-safely-detox-while-breast-feeding/ Click here to SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/2fw7xYU Powered by Organifi... TOP 10 SUPERFOODS FOR INCREASING BREAST MILK SUPPLY

03:17
Presenting, TOP 10 SUPERFOODS FOR INCREASING BREAST MILK SUPPLY 1. Fenugreek Fenugreek, both the seeds and leaves, works as an excellent galactagogue to stimulate breast milk secretion. The choline in it ensures proper development of newborn babies. Plus, this herb contains a generous amount of iron, fiber, calcium, and various vitamins and minerals. It even helps alleviate common post-delivery problems, such as flatulence and body aches. 2. Almonds Almonds and other nuts, such as walnuts and cashews, are super healthy for nursing mothers. Almonds are packed with protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are important for the overall health of the mother as well as her newborn baby. 3. Oatmeal Oatmeal can also help nursing mothers increase the quantity as well as quality of their breast milk. It stimulates the production of oxytocin, a hormone that helps with the birthing process, bonding with the baby and milk production. It also helps prevent iron-deficiency anemia, which is common in new moms. 4. Oranges The high vitamin C content of oranges is important for breast milk supply. A 2002 study published in the Food and Nutrition Bulletin notes that the vitamin C content of breast milk is significantly correlated with the mother’s intake of vitamin C. 5. Brown Rice Food that can boost milk production of nursing mothers is brown rice. Brown rice is far better than white rice due to its high fiber and nutrient content. Being rich in complex carbohydrates, brown rice helps keep you feeling full longer and maintain a consistent blood sugar level. 6. Eggs This tasty and versatile food is great for nursing mothers. Eggs are rich in protein, lutein, vitamins B12 and D, riboflavin, folate and choline. A 2013 study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry notes that increasing intake of choline during pregnancy and breastfeeding may protect infants from future illness by promoting normal brain development. 7. Coconut Oil coconut oil is also healthy for both pregnant and nursing mothers. It contains essential fatty acids such as omega-3 fatty acids that aid the production of hormones responsible for breast milk production. In fact, these essential fatty acids help in producing fattier and more nutritious breast milk. 8. Salmon fish salmon fish should be included in the diet of pregnant as well as nursing mothers. Salmon is an excellent source of protein and DHA, a type of omega-3 fatty acid that is important to the development of a baby’s nervous system. Salmon also contains vitamin D, of which many women are deficient. 9. Spinach Spinach as well as other leafy green vegetables, such as kale, Swiss chard, collards and broccoli, are a must for nursing mothers. The vitamin A in spinach ensures the healthy development of your baby, while its antioxidants boost your baby’s immunity. It even makes a great non-dairy source of calcium for vegan mothers. 10. Carrots During pregnancy and through the breastfeeding period, women should reach for vitamin A-rich foods like carrots. Vitamin A aids in the healthy development of the fetus and the newborn, with lung development and maturation being particularly important. Stay connected & don't forget to share :-)

Pregnancy and Nursing Supplement Needs

http://homefirst.com/ Is Breastmilk Deficient in Vitamin D?? Mayer Eisenstein MD,JD,MPH** I am a physician, attorney, father, grandfather and husband of a wife whohas not only been a LaLeche Leader for 17 years, has nursed all six of our children and actively helped our daughters and daughter-in-law nurse our nine grandchildren. I was always bothered by the statement of American Academy of Pediatrics that breastmilk was lacking in Vitamin D. However, when you measure the Vitamin D content in most womens breastmilk it was truly lacking in Vitamin D. This lack of Vitamin D could be responsible for the increased incidence of early childhood cavities in some nursing babies.1 Many pediatricians blame the childhood cavities on night nursing, claiming that the breastmilk that remained sitting in the mouth was the cause. They insisted that mothers stop night nursing. In all fairness, they also recommended eliminating night bottles of milk or juice. Even though the cases of early childhood cavities pointed in the direction that breastmilk lacked Vitamin D, I knew there had to be a better explanation. Knowing that all children have adult teeth, I never stopped any mother from nursing at night and told them that is why we all have a second set of teeth. I have been troubled by this for more than 30 years. Last February I attended a lecture by Dr. Bruce Hollis, The Vitamin D Requirements During Pregnancy and Lactation.2 All of a sudden it became clear that the reason breastmilk was lacking in Vitamin D is either the mother was not in the sun enough (just 10-15 mins. a day with 40% body exposure will give you 5,000-10,000 IUD) or because she was not getting enough Vitamin D supplementation. As Dr. Hollis reported, when breastfeeding mothers have sun exposure or adequate supplementation, the Vitamin D levels in their breastmilk skyrockets. At this point Dr. Hollis current recommendation is that pregnant and nursing mothers (because of their increased metabolic rate) need at least 6,000-10,000 IUD daily. His research is ongoing and will be concluded in 2010.3 However, even in the summer we rarely get even 15 minutes a day of adequate sun exposure. Most of us go from our air conditioned house to our air conditioned car to our air conditioned mall or office, never getting even the minimal amount of sun exposure to naturally produce Vitamin D. There is a blood test (25[OH]D - to actually measure the blood level of Vitamin D3 ) that I recommend for everyone, including pregnant and nursing mothers. The normal level should be between 40-60ng/ml. Using this blood level as a baseline, studies have shown that approximately 75% of pregnant and nursing mothers are actually Vitamin D deficient. Sadly to say we have found the same results, i.e. blood levels below 40 ng/ml, in a majority of the Homefirst® population, a group which under normal circumstances is considered above average in health. Based on these findings, the doctors at Homefirst® Health Services are routinely performing Vitamin D blood tests on all of their patients. Preliminary observational studies have shown that by adding probiotics the potency and absorption of the Vitamin D3 is enhanced. Supplements for lactating mother to increase breast milk production - Dr. Sailaja Vummadi

01:23
Lactating mothers need extra energy than diet of normal females. They should be taking upto 500 to 800 kilocalories extra in addition to their basic requirement, which will help in milk production. If mother is taking well balanced diet, they don’t need any supplements. But some mothers who are not having well balanced diet or who are stressed out, they can continue taking the supplements during pregnancy, that is iron and calcium. These days we see Vitamin D deficiency is seen in Indian morthers. So supplement the mothers with Vitamin D, so that the baby gets it through breast milk. These are the maximum things that the mothers can do. Other galactogogues can be taken to increase breast milk production according to gynecologist advise.
Causes of Low Vitamin D and Why Your Climate Is Critically Important

03:32
http://www.VitaminDCouponCodes.com As we all may have noticed, gloomy weather has been quite common in recent times. We've basically been getting less sunlight and shorter days. If you're one of those folks living in such gloomy climates, I've got bad news for you. You're not only missing out on the sunshine thatembraces your body in a comforting warmth, you're also missing out on an essential component in your body: vitamin D. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, which supports the development and maintenance of healthy bones. Insufficient amounts of it, especially in children, can cause a condition called rickets, a softening of the bones, making patients more prone to fractures and deformities. For older people, vitamin D and calcium are important in preventing osteoporosis, or brittle bones. Unlike other forms of essential vitamins, we normally synthesize vitamin D ourselves, instead of absorbing it through our diets. In order for our bodies to properly synthesize vitamin D, however, we need ample amounts of sunlight; at least 15 to 20 minutes' worth of sunlight per week. If you live in places with no regular sun, however, 15-20 minutes under the sun can be very hard to come by. It's important to note that some people are more susceptible to vitamin D deficiency than others. People with darker skin tones, for example, require more sunlight to properly synthesize enough vitamin D. Older populations should also be aware of vitamin D levels to ensure bone health. Breast-fed infants are also prone to vitamin D deficiency because breast milk does not usually contain a sufficient amount of vitamin D, and infants should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Even if you do get the chance to work on your tan, it's not always advisable to stay out too long under the sun without sunscreen, especially for those who have fairer skin or those who are considered high-risk in getting skin cancer. As you may have guessed, using sunblock, especially those with higher SPFs, can hinder your vitamin D production to as much as 90-99%. The easiest way, and the safest way, is to take vitamin D supplements with your diet. Taking in food supplements, such as our PLATINUM Series Vitamin D3, is a lot more reliable than trying to soak up sunlight through your skin. TWO SUPPLEMENTS EVeN THE INFANT SHOULD BE TAKING

00:58
When Ryder was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma 11 days shy of his first birthday, we tested his vitamin d levels and they were at 19. Normal is between 30-100 but ideally above 50. We always assumed he was getting vitamin d through Teddy's breast milk but that was definitely not the case. We have been supplementing ever since and have his levels checked EVERY time his labs are drawn to make sure he is in the high normal range. We recommend every cancer parent or patient take advantage of this test. Vitamin d is not only crucial in cancer prevention but in the treatment as well. Fish oil is a supplement we rotate between different brands and give 3 - 5 times a week.
