Hi I'm Royce, This is me recovering from a severe type 1 diabetic seizure where my roommate had to call paramedics (this summer). If my blood sugar gets too low, I can fall into a diabetic shock, bite my tongue, forget who I am and completely lose consciousness (similar to epilepsy). If I ride too high, I feel nauseous and make myself vulnerable to long term complications such as, eye damage, kidney damage, strokes, ulcers and nerve damage. Managing type 1 diabetes is like a double-edged sword and I'm constantly riding this wave to keep incidents like these from happening. Eating healthy and sticking to a balanced lifestyle is key but not always easy. I'm pushing myself to bring more awareness to this disease. And so can its effects on your body. One of the most obvious effects is ED. Erectile dysfunction is a direct cause of diabetes attack on the endothelium. Today we're going address the issue of Diabetes and ED. Why? Because high blood sugar directly damages a tissue called the endothelium, which lines all of your cardiovascular system. As this endothelium is damaged, its ability to produce a gas called nitric oxide is greatly diminished. If you've watched our main video on our web page www.healthyat60plus.com/erectiledysfunction then you know how important nitric oxide is for an erection. While nitric oxide researchers like to joke No NO no sex! (with that second NO referring to nitric oxide) it's no joke to the man whose suffering from diabetes and ED. According to Nobel Laureate in Medicine Dr. Louis J. Ignarro, he makes the following statement on page 11 of his bestselling book NO More Heart Disease: “By 1990, our experiments indicated that NO is also the chemical messenger responsible for penile erections. Nerves in the erectile tissues release NO, dilating the blood vessels and initiating erections.” So what does this have to do with diabetes and ED? Well before we answer this question let's to go back to a previous image. As you can clearly see the aging process results in a significant decrease in nitric oxide production. By the time most people reach the age of 60 their nitric oxide levels have decreased by as much as 85% due to damage done to the lining of the vascular system. This lining is called the endothelium. High blood sugar directly damages the endothelium to accelerate this process. And it's this cumulative damage over time that contributes to the reduced production of nitric oxide contributing to diabetic complications like high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction. Why does this matter? Because nitric oxide acts as a signaling molecule causing Vascular dilation. As Dr. Ignarro stated “Nerves in the erectile tissues release NO, dilating the blood vessels and initiating erections.” Nitric oxide causes the smooth muscles of your vascular system to relax resulting in improved blood flow. By learning how to naturally nourish your endothelium, to boost its production of nitric oxide, you can optimize three beneficial outcomes: First, nitric oxide directly relaxes the smooth muscle of the vascular wall helping to bring blood pressure back into a normal range. This is critically importance for those with diabetes since 67% of all diabetics have high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the number one risk factor for strokes and heart attacks. Nitric oxide helps to naturally bring your blood pressure back into a normal range. Additionally, nitric oxide keeps blood platelet cells from sticking together so this, combined with lower blood pressure, helps to significantly reduce your risk for a stroke or heart attack. Second, at high enough levels over a long enough period of time, nitric oxide can initiate reparative mechanisms that heal the damage done to the endothelium. This helps to reverse calcification (arteriosclerosis) and plaque formations (atherosclerosis) in the vascular system resulting in improved blood flow. Additionally this healing process returns more of your damaged endothelium, caused by high blood sugar levels, back into a functioning tissue resulting in even more nitric oxide production. This has helped a large number of men see improvements in both their blood pressure and sexual health. Third, as nitric oxide production increases there is usually an improvement in blood flow. You and I both know that people are expected to eat 3 full meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Depending on how filling those meals are, you may squeeze in a few snacks here and there. It usually takes about 4 hours after each meal for your belly to start making those too-often-than-not embarrassingly monstrous growls, reminding you that it’s time for your next meal! But with different diets and fasting gaining popularity, I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen to my body if I ate just one meal every day for 30 days.
