2015 Delta Style's Super HealthCare Hero Winner Ashlea Hill of Diabetes Care Center

03:14
Award Nomination and Presentation, Sara Bareilles, "Brave" My name is Kristi Tollett of Ruston. I am a mother…of a child living with type 1 diabetes. Because of this my family and I have become active advocates for the American Diabetes Association, both at the state and the national levels. My 14-year-old daughter, Anna Katherine, who is standing beside me tonight, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was just 8 years old. She wears a continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump which delivers insulin to her body every 3 minutes around the clock. In July of 2011, I received a phone call from Ashlea Hill. She was frantically packing to leave for Shreveport because her own 12-year-old daughter, Caroline, had just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Caroline was admitted into the LSU-S intensive care unit to be treated for “DKA”, or diabetic ketoacidosis. Though Ashlea was a practicing nurse practitioner, nothing had prepared her emotionally to care for her own child diagnosed with type 1. In her own words to me, “knowing about diabetes and living with diabetes are not the same.” Following Caroline’s diagnosis, Ashlea became increasingly impassioned for her patients living with diabetes. Her love for her daughter Caroline compelled her to research cutting-edge technologies, to research efficacy of trending treatments methods, and to eventually provide access to them! She became a Certified Diabetes Educator and became Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management. Ashlea Hill began to have a vision of a clinic where individuals, like her own daughter Caroline, could go to receive the medical treatment, training, and education needed to effectively and proactively fight this chronic medical disease. Armed with the knowledge that our 5th congressional district of Louisiana ranks among the highest in the nation for diabetes, and motivated and inspired by those fighting to manage the disease, Ashlea established Diabetes Care Center (DCC) of Louisiana. Since opening in April of 2013, her goal for DCC has been to provide comprehensive diabetes medical care and education by offering an in-house lab, training for insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring devices, and classes for beginning and advanced management taught by registered dieticians and certified diabetes educators. Why do I think that Ashlea Hill is a Health Care Hero? By Webster’s definition, a hero is one who, in the face of adversity or from a position of weakness, displays courage or self-sacrifice for some greater good. Because of the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in her own daughter’s life, Ashlea experienced her own devastating position of weakness. But, it was through that experience that she developed great compassion for and understanding of others facing similar adversities. While she personally understands and respects what a formidable challenge diabetes can be in one’s life, she is committed to offer the latest and most effective technology and treatment methods available to ensure optimal health, not just for her daughter Caroline, but for all who seek diabetes care. Today, I am truly blessed that Ashlea is Anna Katherine’s Health Care Hero, and I am additionally blessed to call her my friend. Thank you for recognizing Ashlea tonight for this award. She is truly deserving for her contribution to our community and its overwhelming need for improved diabetes resources. Thank you.

BLOOD SUGAR LIVE EXPERIMENT TO CURE DIABETES

42:11
BLOOD SUGAR LIVE EXPERIMENT TO CURE DIABETES The occasion of smashing Guinness by Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury by the launch of 'Diabetes Free World' in 71 languages smashed the myth of Blood-Sugar too, as our body has nothing as such. His decade long experience has never shown him blood-sugar even after analysing more than 20,000 blood samples. He revealed that the so called blood sugar comprises of glucose, fructose, sucrose, saccharine and aspartame, but the GLUCOSE is the only culprit, while the others are not. To prove, he drew his blood sample there and then on stage, and tested to proclaim that the fructose (found in fruits), though double sweeter than Glucose, rather helps in.................. ******************************************************************** Dr. Biswaroop Around the Internet: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrBiswaroopRoyChowdhury/ Website: https://biswaroop.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/biswarooproy Shop: https://biswaroop.com/shop/ Get in Touch: https://biswaroop.com/contact-us/ ********************************************************************

National Family Medicine Board Review Course - About the Boards

07:33
To find out more, go to www.fmboards.com. The National Family Medicine Board Review course is a four-day, 41-hour total immersion "boot-camp" in the factual database of family medicine. At the conclusion, participants, through repetition, will have learned the key information needed to pass family medicine certification and recertification examinations. The focus of the course — to enable participants to pass their exams — drives the content. No "nice to know" material is covered, no avant-garde or non-standard therapy is included, no fluff. Only factual, black-and-white, "core content" information is covered — strictly "bread and butter" information of the type you will find in exam questions.

Episode 34 Jim Stray Gundersen explains how blood flow restriction training builds muscle

01:23:31
Subscribe to the podcast at http://stemtalk.us Full show notes are available at http://ihmc.us/stemtalk/episode-34/ Blood-flow-restriction training is a topic of growing interest. But as IHMC director and STEM-Talk co-host Dr. Ken Ford points out, there’s also a great deal of misinformation about the training. Episode 34 of STEM-Talk addresses some of that misinformation with our interview of Dr. Jim Stray-Gundersen, who helped pioneer blood flow restriction training and leads the Live Hi/Train Low program for the US Athletic Trust. Since receiving his board certification in general surgery in 1985, Jim has focused his work and research on maximizing human performance, health and resilience. He pioneered the Hi-Low training protocol and played a key role in the development of the anti-doping test, SAFE, which stands for Safe And Fair Events. It is considered the most aggressive blood-profiling test in the fight against doping. He has worked with numerous Olympians in various sports and has an ongoing relationship with world renowned long-distance runner Alberto Salazar, who also is a coach and director of the NIKE Oregon Project. Jeff has been an official physician and consultant of the United States, Norwegian and Canadian Olympic teams. He is an official member of 15 world championships. Jim completed post-doctoral fellowships in cardiovascular physiology and human nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He received appointments as an associate professor of orthopedic surgery and physiology. He spent 20 years on the faculty of UTSW and helped build and direct two human-performance centers at St. Paul and Baylor University hospitals. He has served on international medical committees that include the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, International Biathlon Committee, International Ski Federation and the International Skating Union. Jim also is the sports science advisor for the US Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), and continues to lead human performance and altitude camps for Olympic athletes, masters athletes, as well as Navy SEALs. He runs The SG Performance Medicine Center and Sport Technologies for Maximal Athletic Performance, overall fitness, weight loss, and recovery in Frisco, Texas, and now the new center in Park City, Utah, located inside The Center of Excellence USSA Building. As if that isn’t enough, he also is the chief medical officer of B STRONG (www.goBstrong.com)., a Utah -based company he co-founded in an effort to make blood flow restriction safe, effective, and affordable for the general public. B STRONG is a patent-pending exercise method based on blood-flow restriction exercise. During the interview, Jim refers to several studies and articles. Below is a link to those studies and papers, and two suppliers of blood flow restriction gear. Be sure to also check out the US Athletic Trust, an organization that supports American Olympic hopefuls, that Jim talks about toward the end of the podcast.

Dr.McDougall Disputes Major Medical Treatments- Aging Gracefully, Maybe to 100.

42:13
Dr.McDougall Disputes Major Medical Treatments. Heart Disease, Osteoporosis, Cancer and Premature Aging Most people believe they will be saved from common diseases by drugs and surgery. The current epidemic of poor health and obesity prevalent in western countries proves this is not the case. Sick people take medications and see doctors- healthy people don't. You cannot win when dealing with the current medical system- my recommendation to you is to get away from these businesses; and the only safe way to accomplish this goal is to regain your lost health with diet and lifestyle changes. In this series of presentations, Dr.McDougall challenges the current treatments for heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer and premature aging with solid scientific research that is largely unknown to the public- but well known to almost all research scientists. Biographical Information- Dr. John A McDougall is a board-certified internist, author of 11 national best-selling books, host of the worldwide syndicated TV show " McDougall MD" and medical director of the 10-day, live-in McDougall Program in Santa Rosa, California. Seborrheic Keratoses - OnlineDermClinic

03:40
http://www.onlinedermclinic.com In this tutorial, Kevin St.Clair M.D., discusses the diagnosis and management of seborrheic keratoses. Watch our tutorials given by U.S. Board Certified dermatologists at Onlinedermclinic.com. Key Points *Condition consists of common harmless skin lesions that appear during adult life. *Lesions are slightly raised, skin colored or light brown spots that thicken, darken and become wart-like. *Cause is unknown, thought to be a part of the general aging process. *There are many variants Seborrhoeic or Seborrheic keratoses are very common harmless skin lesions that appear during adult life. Seborrheic keratoses may also be called basal cell papillomas, senile warts, brown warts, age spots, or wisdom spots . Seborrheic keratoses are harmless and rarely or never become malignant. They begin as slightly raised, skin colored or light brown spots. Gradually they thicken and take on a rough, warty surface. They slowly darken and may turn black. These color changes are harmless but may result in the lesion looking like a Melanoma. They appear to stick on to the skin like barnacles. Seborrhoeic keratoses appear on both covered and uncovered parts of the body. There may be one or many of them. The cause of Seborrheic keratoses is not known. The name is misleading, because they are not limited to a seborrheic distribution (scalp, mid-face, chest, upper back) as in Seborrheic dermatitis, nor are they formed from sebaceous glands as is the case with Sebaceous hyperplasia. Seborrheic keratoses are considered as part of the skin aging process. As time goes by, Seborrheic keratoses become more numerous. Some people inherit a tendency to develop a very large number of them. They are not generally caused by exposure to the sun, although they can follow sunburn or other irritating skin conditions including dermatitis. Skin cancers are sometimes difficult to tell apart from Seborrheic keratoses, so if you are concerned or unsure about any skin lesion consult your doctor. Very rarely, eruptive seborrhoeic keratoses may denote an underlying internal malignancy. The syndrome is known as the sign of Leser-Trelat. Variants of Seborrheic keratoses include maular (flat) seborrheic keratose, stucco keratoses (numerous small dry grey stuck-on lesions usually found on lower legs and feet), Dermatosis papulosa nigra (numerous brown warty bumps on face, neck and chests of dark-skinned people), irritated seborrhoeic keratosis (inflamed lesion, often red and crusted), and Lichenoid keratosis (often pink or grey colored). Differential Diagnosis (Other conditions with similar appearance) Acrochordon Arsenical Keratosis Basal cell carcinoma Bowen Disease Warts Melanoma Squamous cell carcinoma Diagnosis Key Points *Diagnosis is typically done through clinical inspection and, sometimes, Skin biopsy Diagnosis is usually easily made by physical examination. When there is uncertainty about the growth a Skin biopsy may be done to rule out other diagnoses. Treatment Key Points *Treatment is not necessary as Seborrheic keratoses are harmless. *Seborrheic keratoses can be easily removed through cryotherapy, curettage & cautery, laser surgery, and shave biopsy. Seborrheic keratoses can easily be removed but may leave a small scar. The usual reason for removing a seborrheic keratosis is cosmetic or it may Itch or rub against your clothes. Occasionally your doctor may recommend its removal because of uncertainty of the correct diagnosis. Methods used to remove Seborrhoeic keratoses include cryotherapy, curettage & cautery, laser surgery, and shave biopsy.
