NSNA 2018 Annual Convention Plenary Session Video A Hot Topic: Climate and Nursing
As the earth heats up, human and ecological health is being impacted. What effects are we already seeing in humans? Nurses are seeing increased rates of asthma, vector-borne diseases, and heat-related illnesses. We are also being called into action when there are extreme weather events and fires. How can we integrate the necessary preparedness and responses into our nursing practice, regardless of our professional settings? There is a role for all nurses in education, practice, and advocacy. Speaker: Barbara Sattler, DrPH, RN, FAAN, Professor, University of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA

World War II: Crash Course World History #38
Crash Course World History is now available on DVD! Visit http://store.dftba.com/products/crashcourse-world-history-the-complete-series-dvd-set to buy a set for your home or classroom. In which John Green teaches you about World War II, aka The Great Patriotic War, aka The Big One. So how did this war happen? And what does it mean? We've all learned the facts about World War II many times over, thanks to repeated classroom coverage, the History channel, and your grandfather (or maybe great-grandfather) showing you that Nazi bayonet he used to keep in his sock drawer and telling you a bunch of age-inappropriate stories about his harrowing war experiences. So, why did the Axis powers think forceful expansion was a good idea? (they were hungry). So why did this thing shake out in favor of the Allies? HInt: it has to do with the fact that it was a world war. Germany and Japan made some pretty serious strategic errors, such as invading Russia and attacking the United States, and those errors meant that pretty much the whole world was against them. So, find out how this worldwide alliance came together to stop the Axis expansion. All this, plus Canada finally gets the respectful treatment it deserves. Oh, and a warning: there are a few graphic images in this episode. Sensitive viewers may want to use caution, especially around the 9:15 mark. The National Medical Association educates clinicians on key elements for quality asthma care
Dr. Walter Faggett of the National Medical Association (NMA) explains how the NMA is working to translate the GIP messages into clinical practices so that clinicians provide, and their patients receive, recommended asthma care. This video is presented by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. The NMA is a strategic partner of NHLBI's National Asthma Control Initiative (NACI). We Oppose CA SB277: Parents On Vaccine Injury, Parental Rights & Education
http://www.StopMandatoryVaccination.com - In this video, well-informed and educated parents object to and oppose CA SB277, which would eliminate personal belief exemptions for the vaccination of their children. In its current state, if SB 277 became law it would require parents to have their children fully vaccinated in order to attend public or private school, even though there is no public health crisis and the diseases for which children are vaccinated against are not deadly when children have strong, healthy immune function. Vaccination is an invasive medical procedure that carries substantial risk, yet the manufacturers of vaccines are not liable when their products seriously maim or kill people. The decision to vaccinate or not vaccinate should be decided upon by doctor and patient with full informed consent, and not the government. In this video, parents make these following points: • Strips parents’ rights to making medical decisions for their children • If a parent refuses to vaccinate, child may not attend public or private school • Unvaccinated children are not sick, and do not pose a threat to society • There have been under 200 measles cases this year yet there are over 320 million people in the U.S. - how does this justify sweeping laws that mandates vaccination for the entre populace • There is no compelling interest for the State to create a forced vaccination law • Parents cannot afford to homeschool • Vaccination decisions should be between doctor and parent • Mandatory vaccination is unconstitutional and discriminatory • Adverse reactions are real - talk to parents who have a child who is vaccine injured • A “medical exemption” is very difficult to get • Parents are well educated and can research on their own and decide for themselves if vaccination is right for their children • Mexico suspended vaccination because of kids dying from vaccines • Vaccines are not tested in combination - and are not safe • Vaccines contribute to neurological problems in children • SB277 will rob children of public and private education • Educate yourself about vaccines and vaccination problems • Get involved and help stop mandatory vaccination JAPAN COMMENT For twenty years, japan did not vaccinate any child under two years old and had the lowest infant mortality rate in the world. The MMR was banned in Japan in 1993 after 1.8 million children had been given two types of MMR and a record number developed non-viral meningitis and other adverse reactions. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-17509/Why-Japan-banned-MMR-vaccine.html#ixzz3b4kzES00 http://www.vaclib.org/basic/japanusa.htm Get involved: http://www.StopMandatoryVaccination.com Produced by Larry Cook Founder and Director of http://www.StopMandatoryVaccination.com Contribute here: http://www.gofundme.com/ohwupg Measles Stats: http://www.cdc.gov/measles/cases-outbreaks.html

2018 Ideas Conference - Full Event
For the past 15 years, the Center for American Progress has served as a creative engine for introducing bold solutions that advance progressive values on nearly every possible front. In the past year alone, we have defended the Affordable Care Act; outlined policies to create workplaces that support women and families; discussed the impact of race across a wide range of issue areas; and helped drive opposition to President Donald Trump’s tax plan. At CAP, we believe that ideas are the heart of all progressive change, but we also know that ideas aren’t enough. It takes grassroots advocacy and real leadership supporting those ideas to create true progressive change. As we celebrate our 15th year of big ideas, CAP is bringing together elected officials, policy experts, cultural influencers, and grassroots activists at the 2018 CAP Ideas Conference, where we will explore and unveil new ideas that can make America a place for every single one of us to thrive. Is Hillary Clinton Authentic? Rodham 2016
Hey my fellow millennials, here's Hillary Rodham Clinton fighting for education, families, children, and women throughout her entire career. Hillary *IS* authentic. After Yale, Hillary worked for the Children's Defense Fund, the Arkansas Children's Hospital Legal Services, cofounded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, secured federal funds to expand medical facilities in Arkansas's poorest areas as chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee, successfully reformed the Arkansas education system as chair of the Arkansas Educational Standards Committee while Bill was Governor, and became the first female partner of the Rose Law Firm. As First Lady of the United States, Hillary increased research funding for prostate cancer and childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health, helped to create the Office on Violence Against Women and the Campaign Against Teenage Pregnancy which reduced abortion rates by providing women with accurate information and contraception, in addition to highly significant achievements such as the Adoption and Safe Families Act, the Foster Care Independence Act, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which currently provides 8+ million children with health insurance. Other accomplishments: –Hillary has worked closely with the Human Rights Campaign on a variety of issues over the years. Hillary has correctly noted she was the first First Lady to march in a gay pride parade. As New York Senator, Hillary fought for stronger hate crime laws and anti-discrimination laws. As Secretary of State, Hillary enacted lifesaving policies and programs that saved LGBT people around the globe, historically declaring on the world stage: "Gay rights are human rights." –Fighting and achieving the necessary healthcare for 9/11 first responders as New York Senator. –Secretary of State: New START treaty with Russia, ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, promoting and protecting the rights of women and the LGBT community worldwide, our “pivot” to Asia strategy – visiting Burma for the first time in over 40 years, and improving the favorability of the U.S. by 20 points worldwide after the disastrous Bush Administration. Hillary has always stood with women, the middle-class, children, the under-privileged – the invisible. "When I first met her 30 years ago, she already had an abiding passion to help children. She’s pursued it ever since. Her first job was with the Children’s Defense Fund. Every year I was Governor she took lots of time away from her law practice to work for better schools, children’s health and jobs for parents who lived in poor areas. When I became President she became a full- time advocate for her lifetime cause. What a job she’s done. She championed the Family Leave law, children’s health insurance, and increased support for foster children and adoptions. She wrote a best–selling book about caring for our children, and then she took care of them by giving all the profits to children’s charities. For thirty years, she’s been there for all our kids. She’s been a great First Lady. She’s always been there for our family. And she’ll always be there for the families of New York and America.” –President Bill Clinton “I’m not going to mislead anybody. Politics is really hard. And it is harder for women. There’s a double standard, and you can’t complain about it. You just have to accept it, and be smart enough to navigate it. And you have to have a pretty tough skin. To paraphrase a favorite quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: If a woman wants to be in politics, she has to have the skin of a rhinoceros. So occasionally I’ll be sitting somewhere and I’ll be listening to someone perhaps not saying the kindest things about me. And I’ll look down at my hand and I’ll sort of pinch my skin to make sure it still has the requisite thickness I know Eleanor Roosevelt expects me to have.” –Hillary Rodham Clinton My first Hillary video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUYb9w0pTi4 [100,000+ views] My Hillary blog: http://hillaryisaboss.tumblr.com

Hillary was raised in a suburb of Illinois where she attended public school and was raised a Methodist by her parents. She attended Wellesley College, and went on to study law at Yale. After attending Yale Law School, she went to work for the Children’s Defense Fund, going door to door in New Bedford, Massachusetts. After serving as a lawyer for the Congressional Committee investigating President Nixon, she moved to Arkansas where she taught law and ran legal clinics representing poor people. She co-founded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, one of the state’s first child advocacy groups. As First Lady under President Bill Clinton, Hillary tenaciously led the fight to reform our health care system so that all our families have access to the care they need at affordable prices. Hillary led the U.S. delegation to Beijing to attend the UN Fourth World Conference on Women and gave a groundbreaking speech, declaring that “human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights once and for all”—inspiring women worldwide and helping to galvanize a global movement for women’s rights and opportunities. Hillary was then elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the first woman senator from New York. She repeatedly worked across the aisle to get things done, including working alongside Republicans after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. When Congress wouldn't do enough for rural areas and small towns, Hillary didn’t back down. She launched innovative partnerships with the tech industry and provided support to local colleges and small businesses. When President Obama asked Hillary to serve as his secretary of state, she answered the call to public service once again. She was a forceful champion for human rights, internet freedom, and rights and opportunities for women and girls, LGBT people and young people all around the globe. Now she’s running for President because everyday Americans need a champion and she wants to be that champion. ABOUT THE HILLARY CLINTON YOUTUBE CHANNEL Welcome to Hillary Clinton’s YouTube Channel. Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has described President John Mahama's State of the Nation Address to Parliament as “palpable untruths, half-truths, and embellished truths.” addressing the media after the president’s four-hour address, the Minority leader said the economy, which forms the basis of the true state of the nation, was relegated to the background by the president. Former National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, has filed yet another suit against the Electoral Commission, this time praying the Supreme Court to stop it from organizing the March 29 bye election in the Abuakwa North constituency. He argues that it will be “contemptuous” for the Electoral Commission to conduct the by-election in Abuakwa using the current voters’ register. As part of measures to avert floods ahead of the rainy season, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr Alfred OKo Vanderpuije has begun clearing drainage channels in the metropolis. This development embarked on by the AMA was to put emergency flood prevention measures in place, particularly the clearing of choked drains. Over a hundred people perished when the GOIL petrol station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle - where they were seeking shelter during a heavy downpour in June 3, 2015, amidst heavy floods. A new research has suggested that half a million of children diagnosed with asthma may not actually have the condition. The study, published in the British Journal of General Practice, said that researchers from the University Medical Centre in Utrecht, The Netherlands, looked at the medical records of 656 children diagnosed with asthma at four centres. It was later found that 53 per cent had no clinical signs of the condition.

Vaccination - The Cure For Over-Population (Coming Soon)
"No batch of vaccine can be proved safe before it is given to children." -- Surgeon General of the United States, Leonard Scheele, addressing an AMA convention in 1955 "The only safe vaccine is a vaccine that is never used" -- Dr. James A. Shannon, National Institutes of Health "There is a great deal of evidence to prove that immunisation of children does more harm than good." - Dr. J. Anthony Morris (formerly Chief Vaccine Control Officer at the US Federal Drug Admin.) "The medical authorities keep lying. Vaccination has been a disaster on the immune system. It actually causes a lot of illnesses. We are changing our genetic code through vaccination." --Guylaine Lanctot M.D. Canadian author of the best-seller 'Medical Mafia'. "There is no evidence whatsoever of the ability of vaccines to prevent any diseases. To the contrary, there is a great wealth of evidence that they cause serious side effects." -- Dr. Viera Scheibner "Vaccination is not necessary, not useful, does not protect. There are twice as many casualties from vaccination as from AIDS." --Dr. Gerhard Buchwald, West Germany, specialist of internal diseases and participant in about 150 trials of vaccination victims. "I've been practicing for 40 years, and in the past 10 years the children have been sicker than ever."--Dr Doris J.Rapp, paediatric allergist. "The greatest threat of childhood diseases lies in the dangerous and ineffectual efforts made to prevent them through mass immunisation.....There is no convincing scientific evidence that mass inoculations can be credited with eliminating any childhood disease." --Dr. Robert Mendelsohn, M.D. "I think that no person would permit anybody to get close to them with an inoculation if they would really know how they are made, what they carry, what has been lied to them about them and what the real percent of danger is of contracting such a disease which is minimal."---Dr. Eva Snead "If you want the truth on vaccination you must go to those who are not making anything out of it. If doctors shot at the moon every time it was full as a preventive of measles and got a shilling for it, they would bring statistics to prove it was a most efficient practice, and that the population would be decimated if it were stopped."---Dr Allinson "Crib death" was so infrequent in the pre-vaccination era that it was not even mentioned in the statistics, but it started to climb in the 1950s with the spread of mass vaccination against diseases of childhood. --Harris L.Coulter, PhD. "Probably 20% of American children-one youngster in five--- suffers from 'development disability'. This is a stupefying figure..We have inflicted it on ourselves.. 'development disabilities' are nearly always generated by encephalitis. And the primary cause of encephalitis in the USA and other industrialised countries is the childhood vaccination program. To be specific, a large proportion of the millions of US children and adults suffering from autism, seizures, mental retardation, hyperactivity, dyslexia, and other shoots or branches of the hydraheaded entity called 'development disabilities', owe their disorders to one or another of the vaccines against childhood diseases." --Harris Coulter, PhD "It is pathetic and ludicrous to say we ever vanquished smallpox with vaccines, when only 10% of the population was ever vaccinated." - Dr. Glen Dettman. "There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway." - Dr. J. Anthony Morris (formerly Chief Vaccine Control Officer at the US Federal Drug Admin.) "There is insufficient evidence to support routine vaccination of healthy persons of any age." - Paul Frame, M.D., Journal of Family Practice "Official data shows that large scale vaccination has failed to obtain any significant improvement of the diseases against which they were supposed to provide protection" - Dr. Sabin, developer of Polio vaccine. "All vaccination has the effect of directing the three values of the blood into or toward the zone characteristics of cancer and leukaemia...Vaccines do predispose to cancer and leukaemia." -Professor L.Vincent - founder of Bioelectronics "Many here voice a silent view that the Salk and Sabin Polio Vaccines, being made from monkey kidney tissue, has been directly responsible for the major increase in leukaemia in this country." - Dr F. Klenner, M.D. "Provocation polio. That is the truth about those outbreaks of polio. And I offer a well considered personal opinion that polio is a man made disease." -Viera Scheibner, Ph.D. The incidence of asthma has been found to be five times more common in vaccinated children." -The Lancet, 1994. "89% of doctors rely on drug company salesmen for their information." -The Australian Doctor 1989.

A Forever Recovery, Per Wickstrom interview Kendall Schmidt
If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction call (866) 749 8240 The treatment program at A Forever Recovery is not just about helping our patients to get off of drugs and alcohol, it is about helping them find the tools that they need to remain substance-free after graduating from our rehabilitation center. It is about helping them to make the lifestyle changes necessary to become fully functioning members of society and giving them the abilities to help make our world a better place for everyone in it. While these are our main priorities, we realize that treatment of addiction is just one part of the solution to the problem of drug abuse and alcoholism that we face in America today. We believe that prevention and education on the dangers of chemical dependency are just as important as rehabilitation in the battle against substance abuse. We make every effort to reach beyond our recovery facility to spread our message of better living through a substance-free lifestyle to a many people as we can. Per Wickstrom, the CEO of A Forever Recovery, saw a chance to help make a difference in the lives of children in need by sponsoring an event called “Imagination Heals”, which showcased a pop music performance based on a children’s book titled “Pacha’s Pajamas”. This story is one of a little girl who, facing obstacles caused by her chronic asthma, discovers that the power of her dreams and imagination and the strength that she finds within herself can help her to overcome those problems. Many public figures joined us for this fun-filled evening, not the least of whom was Kendall Schmidt of “Big Time Rush”, another musical act that presents a positive message geared towards children and teens. Kendall gave an onstage reading of part of the story of Pacha and her magical pajamas to the delight of the children and adults in attendance that evening. Per Wickstrom caught up with Kendall on the red carpet and asked him to take a moment to share his thoughts on the evening’s event. “Ultimately, what I do is for the kids,” he tells us, “and anything that I can do to help out is important to me, so I was glad to be here.” Kendall, like those of us at AFR, realize that the future of our world depends on the youth of today, and that we must all do everything we can to lead them in the right direction and teach them how to be the strong leaders of tomorrow that we need. At A Forever Recovery, we are committed to offering our support wherever we can to help support our communities and to help build a more promising future for everyone. Egon Matijevic: A Retrospective Interview
Clarkson University's oldest and longest serving active, full-time faculty member, Egon Matijevic, passed away on July 20, 2016, at the age of 94. He had recently been named the Victor K. LaMer Professor Emeritus for his 59 years of exemplary service to the University. This 2013 interview looks back on Matijevic's career and life. Renowned among alumni as a maestro in the lecture hall and among his peers world-wide for his scientific virtuosity, Matijevic's contributions to Clarkson are legendary. He inspired excellence in the laboratory, the classroom and in life. As a world-renowned researcher with numerous publications and patents to his name, he defied convention among his higher education peers and led the Clarkson faculty to always place students first. Egon Matijevic was born on October 27, 1922, in Otocac, Croatia. He received his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Zagreb in 1944, Ph.D. in chemistry in 1948 and doctor habil in 1952. Matijevic began his career at Clarkson in 1957 as a post-doctoral fellow, following a year as a research fellow at Cambridge University in England. In 1965, he established the Institute of Colloid and Surface Science, the first of its kind in the U.S. and a precursor to the Center for Advanced Materials Processing, thereby establishing Clarkson as preeminent in the field of colloid and surface science. The field of colloid and surface science deals with materials whose dimensions are larger than molecules, but not large enough to see in a light microscope. These exceedingly fine particles are present as interstellar dust, volcanic ash, fog, and in parts of our blood, and are useful in numerous applications, especially high technology and medicine. Matijevic was considered a brilliant scholar whose prolific and inspired research helped shape the modern field of colloid and surface science. His techniques for preparing fine particles, uniform in size and shape, have applications in products like the capacitors used in microelectronics, magnetic memories, and the ceramics used in electronic components. His research focused on synthesizing minute particles with precise shapes, sizes and composition, and studying their properties. Through his synthesis techniques, he created particles that met specific requirements, and the effects of his groundbreaking research were far reaching. Some applications are medical, such as drug particles of uniform size that deliver a medication more quickly and consistently, or asthma medication that aerosolizes more effectively. Some applications take advantage of the diverse optical properties of different particle sizes, shapes and composition, and involve pigments for color filters, printer inks and paper whiteners. Matijevic received many honors nationally and internationally and was the only individual to receive all three major awards of the American Chemical Society in his field of colloid chemistry: The Kendall Award (1972), the Langmuir Distinguished Lecturer Award (1985), and the Ralph K. Iler Award (1993). He was also honored with the Thomas-Graham Award in 1985, the highest prize of the oldest colloidal society in the world, Germany's Kolloid Gesellschaft. He received honorary degrees at universities worldwide, including Lehigh University, Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, the University of Zagreb, the National University of San Martin, the University of Ljubljana, and Clarkson University. Matijevic published 581 papers and held 17 patents. As a mentor, Matijevic instructed 15,000 undergraduate students and advised more than 50 Ph.D. candidates, 50 M.S. students, and 130 postdoctoral scholars. He delivered more than 70 plenary and keynote lectures at meetings and symposia in dozens of countries worldwide, including the prestigious Faraday Discourse at the Royal Institution in London. (The bronze sculpture by Italian artist Domenico Colanzi, which is featured in beginning of the video, was donated to Clarkson by Matijevic and his wife Bozica in honor of Matijevic's 80th birthday and in celebration of his then 45 years of professional service to Clarkson. Titled “La Ricerca,” which means research, it is the result of a unique collaborative design effort between the noted Italian artist Colanzi and Matijevic, who maintained a close friendship. The sculpture features a bull, a creature that symbolizes an aggressive, charging approach, characteristics necessary for successful research. Added to the central theme are sculptured colloidal particles, which were taken from original electron micrographs.)
