The New Evolution Diet - Episode 1

01:00
Astonishing as it may be, it's a fact that human DNA has evolved very little since our Paleolithic ancestors roamed the earth. But while our genes may be similar, the environment in which they express themselves has changed radically. Living in an age when activity was mandatory and food was scarce, our ancestors thrived. Early man did not suffer from heart disease, high blood pressure, or obesity. In fact, a good deal of what we describe as "normal aging" is more akin to disease than any natural aging process. Disease free and strikingly fit, 72-year-old Arthur De Vany—grandfather of the "Paleo lifestyle" movement—is living proof that it pays to live like a caveman. In The New Evolution Diet, De Vany offers you a roadmap back to better health. The plan is built on three principles: - eat three meals a day made up of nonstarchy vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins - skip meals occasionally to promote a low fasting blood insulin level - exercise less, not more, in shorter, high-intensity bursts By cutting out modern foods—including carbohydrates, dairy, and all processed foods—anyone can lose weight, gain muscle, and enjoy a longer, better life.

Art De Vany, author of The New Evolution Diet, thinks that our Paleolithic ancestors were lazy overeaters, because they needed to eat in excess of their energy expenditures or they would not have survived. They did not eat three steady meals per day. We move when we're hungry because that's what we used to do, we had to look for food. Psychologically, we have to be capable of eating more than need and we have no mechanism for limiting the amount of body fat we have. The overeating part is a survival strategy. Wild animals have to eat this way or they cant survive because they don't know where their next meal is coming from. The "lazy" part comes from the fact that they did not expend energy unless it was in search of food. When they were fed, they didn't move. They started moving again when they were hungry. Paleofantasy: What Evolution Really Tells Us about Sex, Diet, and How We Live

57:36
Lecture by Marlene Zuk, Professor of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, University of Minnesota. From the Stone Age diet plan to Paleo workouts, our culture is rife with pseudo-scientific fads based on a time when we supposedly were more "in sync" with nature. Marlene Zuk dismantles this nostalgia and argues that evolution yields neither perfection nor a final product. Part of the Evolution Matters series, supported by a generous gift from Drs. Herman and Joan Suit.

Loren Cordain - Origins and Evolution of the Western Diet: Health Implications for the 21st Century.

01:12:45
Another lecture in IHMC's award winning lecture series. http://www.ihmc.us There is growing awareness that the profound changes in the environment (e.g. in diet and other lifestyle conditions) that began with the introduction of agriculture and animal husbandry approximately 10,000 years ago occurred too recently on an evolutionary timescale for the human genome to adjust. In conjunction with this discordance between our ancient, genetically-determined biology and the nutritional, cultural and activity patterns of contemporary western populations, many of the so-called diseases of civilization have emerged. In the U.S. and most western countries, diet-related chronic diseases represent the single largest cause of morbidity and mortality. These diseases are epidemic in contemporary, westernized populations and typically afflict 50-65 % of the adult population, yet are rare or non-existent in hunter-gatherers and other less westernized people. Evidence gleaned over the past three decades now indicates that virtually all so-called diseases of civilization have multifactorial dietary elements that underlie their etiology, along with other environmental agents and genetic susceptibility. This talk will trace the origins of the Western diet and discuss the health implications. Dr. Cordain is a Professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. His research emphasis over the past 15 years has focused upon the evolutionary and anthropological basis for diet, health and well being in modern humans. Dr. Cordain's scientific publications have examined the nutritional characteristics of worldwide hunter-gatherer diets as well as the nutrient composition of wild plant and animal foods consumed by foraging humans. Over the past five years his work has focused upon the adverse health effects of the high dietary glycemic load that is ubiquitous in the typical western diet. A number of his recent papers have proposed an endocrine link between dietary induced hyperinsulinemia and acne. Currently, Dr. Cordain's research team is exploring the connection between dietary elements that increase intestinal permeability (primarily saponins and lectins) and autoimmune disease, particularly multiple sclerosis. Dr. Cordain is the author of more than 100 peer review publications, many of which were funded by both private and governmental agencies. He is the recent recipient of the Scholarly Excellence award at Colorado State University for his contributions into understanding optimal human nutrition. He has lectured extensively world wide, and has written three popular books (The Paleo Diet, John Wiley & Sons; The Paleo Diet for Athletes, Rodale Press; The Dietary Cure for Acne) summarizing his research findings.

Paleo Foods The basis for eating this way was discovered by researching the hunter-gatherer dietary practices of Paleolithic man who existed and thrived during an era prior to the developement of agriculture. Our prehistoric ancestors were omnivores who mostly foraged and hunted for food for over 2 million years. However, with the advent of agriculture 10,000 years ago, humans began consuming more dairy, grains, sugars, and salt which led to a significant increase in obesity, disease, and death in civilized populations around the world. The goal of following the Paleo diet is to return to humanity’s original food sources and reclaim our health! Episode 27 Robb Wolf Discusses the Paleo Diet, Ketosis, Exercise, Nicotine … and Much More!

01:35:14
Subscribe to the podcast at http://stemtalk.us Full show notes are available at http://ihmc.us/stemtalk/episode-27/ For fitness and Paleo Diet aficionados—and perhaps regular STEM-talk listeners—Robb Wolf is the type of esteemed guest who needs no introduction. Many people already know him by his best-selling book, “The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet,” (http://amzn.to/2gB6N4c) or his top-ranked podcast by that same name. (http://robbwolf.com/podcast/) But what some people may not know is that Wolf also started the world’s first cross-fit affiliate gym; that he’s raising his young daughters on a paleo diet—which may account for their mouths having a similar phenotypical expression as hunters and gatherers; and that nicotine—yes, nicotine—can actually be good for you (just not delivered by cigarette) in some contexts. STEM-Talk Host Dawn Kernagis and IHMC Founder Ken Ford talk to Wolf about these and other fascinating insights in this episode. Wolf hailed from a relatively unhealthy family, which pushed him towards discovering good health on his own terms. A keen interest and aptitude in science (he was a biochemistry major at California State University-Chico) set Wolf on the path of evolutionary medicine. He began thinking seriously about pre-agricultural diets in response to his mother’s poor reaction to her consumption of grains, legumes, and dairy. Since that time, Wolf has become an expert, researcher, and self-experimenter of the Paleo Diet. His expertise has led him to become a review editor for Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism; co-founder of The Performance Menu, a nutrition and athletic training journal; and co-owner of NorCal, one of Men’s Health magazine’s top thirty gyms in America. He is also a consultant for the Naval Special Warfare Resiliency Program. Wolf recently gave a lecture entitled “Darwinian Medicine: Maybe There IS Something to This Evolution Thing” at IHMC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qga4A3vnXmg 2:10: Dawn reads iTunes review entitled “No Bro Science Here” from someone nicknamed “Leafy Sweets:” “Science-based interviews with experts, post-docs and department/lab heads on relevant topics. Paleo Diet - The Ultimate Primal Diet Plan eBook

02:06
http://www.paleodietinformation.org/download_page.html - In today's society, dieting has become a way of life. With innumerable diets to choose from, it is important to understand the basics of each diet before choosing the one that is right for you. Many diets discourage large amounts of meat intake, restrict carbohydrates, or focus largely on fruits and vegetables. The Paleo Diet, however, is unique because it is based on the diet of the very first humans. Paleo is short for Paleolithic, which refers to the period in history known as the Stone Age. The Paleo Diet is also referred to as the 'Hunter Gatherer Diet' because it consists of food that can be hunted (such as meat or seafood) and gathered (such as fruits, nuts, vegetables, etc.). Essentially, the Paleo diet takes the diet used by early humans prior to agriculture or animal husbandry and applies it to modern-day foods. The core principle of the Paleo Diet is that humans are genetically suited to eat the foods that our ancestors consumed. In short, the Paleo diet imitates the foods that every single human on earth consumed before the rise of agriculture. The key is that the Paleo diet contains foods that have very high nutritional value, such as lean meats, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. The diet also shuns food ingredients that were created after the agriculture revolution, such as grains, dairy products, sugar, and salt because these products can lead to an increase in weight and a higher chance of developing health problems such as diabetes. The Paleo diet has a large athlete following because of its high protein content. Some foods that are basic to the diet are meat, chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. When choosing which vegetables to eat, you should look for root vegetables, but make sure to stay away from potatoes and sweet potatoes. One reason these foods are healthy for you is because they are free of additives, which are proven to be harmful to your health. Now that you know the basics, you may find yourself asking why you should switch to the Paleo diet. There are many health benefits of going on a Paleo diet. For one, it can help you lose weight. Because the Paleo diet is naturally low in carbohydrates, it has a low caloric count. Low carbohydrates have also been proven to decrease the risk factors that lead to coronary heart disease. Another benefit is that the diet is naturally high in fiber. There are many benefits to fiber, some of which include lowering the risk of diabetes and coronary heart disease. Fiber also is a key component for weight loss. Also, for people who suffer from allergies, the Paleo diet is naturally allergen free. Many foods that are manufactured by humans contain gluten and casein, which are two common causes of allergies. The Paleo diet, however, does not contain these ingredients and therefore can help people lead an allergy free life. Lastly, because the Paleo diet is based on foods that were consumed before the agricultural revolution, they do not contain additives such as sugar and salt, saturated fats, trans-fats, or hydrogenated oils, all of which can lead to heart disease and other major health problems. By choosing to follow the Paleo diet, you are bettering your chance of a healthy, disease-free life.

What is the Paleo Diet and Is It Right for You?

04:30
http://www.thepaleodietmealplan.com Have you wondered about the Paleo Diet? What is the Paleo Diet and can it help you achieve your body composition goals? Losing fat and being healthy doesn't have to be torture. You can follow a Paleo Diet Meal Plan and watch pounds of fat melt away. It's not unusual to start losing 2 pounds of fat a week when starting on a Paleo Diet. Not to mention that a Paleo Diet provides your body with the appropriate types of nutrition to have you feel energized. Our Paleolithic ancestors lived a simple life and lived on a Paleo Diet that consisted of fresh, organic meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. They were lean and healthy. They spent time outside and got plenty of exercise just from daily living activities. A Paleo Diet is the answer to a lot of health problems we see today. If you suffer from acid reflx, hearburn, diabetes, heart disease and other such health problems... you could benefit from a Paleo Diet. A Paleo Diet takes out all the processed, sugary foods that we normally eat. The problem is that those foods are not normal to our bodies. Our bodies natural mechanisms work against us when we consume these sugary, high processed carbohydrate foods... causing us to store massive amounts of body fat. Turn back the clock and get your body back on track with a Paleo Diet. http://www.thepaleodietmealplan.com

Paleo Primal Low carb Or Vegan high carb for sustainability & health?

07:55
Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf, cross fit, zone diet, low carb, Art de Vany, Gary Taubes, Sean Croxton etc all promote a low carb diet for weight loss but we know it can cause serious health conditions. 30 Bananas A Day http://www.30BananasADay.com Sleep, water, sugar sufficiency must be the daily focus. Sun + sport must be the weekly focus. Making the world a better place for humanity, the animals and the environment must be the life focus. Here are some more tips from Durianrider & Freelee. One MUST get consistent early nights to ensure success on a healthy weight loss lifestyle. More early nights means a healthier and faster metabolism + you will have greater nerve energy for the next day as your organs get the rest they need to function healthfully. High carb low fat fruit based lifestyles work wonders for long term weight loss transformations. I've NEVER seen a fat fruit or rice muncher EVER. People sneak in fat and wonder why they get fat. I'm talking FAT FAT not skinny fat cos someone doesn't move their body and they wonder why they don't have a tight stomach. Weight loss transformation WILL happen when you do the right things. High carb, low fat, early nights, consistent hydration etc. Participate in your favourite activities to build the toned body that you want. It's easy to lose weight, but to build a toned body you MUST MOVE IT! :) AND eat enough carb calories so that the active adventure filled lifestyle is EASY to maintain!! So many people make the mistake of not eating enough carb calories DAILY!! That's like wanting to be a big spender on 5$ a day! CHOW DOWN THE CARB CALORIES REGARDLESS OF YOUR WEIGHT!! My recommendations for anyone wanting to get fit + stay fit + gain muscle + burn fat is 10g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per day MINIMUM (even on days off) and 1g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per hour when you're out training. I personally drink enough water so I'm urinating at least 10 times a day CLEAR and a few times a night. If my urine is yellow or straw, I drink more, I just knock back a quart and I'm good to go. Raw food diet vegan high carb low fat style based on fruit keeps you slim naturally. How to get a flat stomach, how to lose weight with raw foods, how to start a raw food diet? all these questions and more answered by Durianrider & Freelee on our channels.
