Lung cancer, also known as carcinoma of the lung or pulmonary carcinoma, is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. If left untreated, this growth can spread beyond the lung by process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. The vast majority (80–90%) of cases of lung cancer are due to long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. About 10–15% of cases occur in people who have never smoked. These cases are often caused by a combination of genetic factors and exposure to radon gas, asbestos, or other forms of air pollution, including second-hand smoke. Worldwide, lung cancer is the most common cancer among men in terms of both incidence and mortality, and among women has the third highest incidence, and is second after breast cancer in mortality. Learn the signs of lung cancer to catch the disease early and ensure a positive outcome. Below are some early signs of lung cancer according to healthline.com. No Warning Lung cancer may not produce any noticeable symptoms in the early stages. In approximately 40 percent of people diagnosed with lung cancer, the diagnosis is made after the disease has advanced. In one third of those diagnosed, the cancer has reached stage 3. Cough That Won’t Quit Be on alert for a new cough that lingers. While a cough associated with a cold or respiratory infection will go away in a week or two, a persistent cough that lingers can be a possible sign of lung cancer. Don’t be tempted to dismiss a stubborn cough, whether it is dry or mucus-producing, as “just a cough.” Change in a Cough Pay attention to any changes in a chronic cough, particularly if you are a smoker. If you are coughing more often, your cough has a deeper or hoarse sound, or you are coughing up blood or more mucus than usual, it’s time to make a doctor’s appointment. Breathing Changes Shortness of breath or becoming easily winded are also possible symptoms of lung cancer. This symptom can occur if lung cancer blocks or narrows an airway, or if fluid from a lung tumor builds up in the chest. Make a point of noticing when you feel winded or short of breath. If this symptom occurs after climbing the stairs to your house, bringing in groceries, or performing another task you could previously do without finding it hard to breathe, don’t ignore it. Pain in the Chest Area Lung cancer may produce pain in the chest, shoulder, or back area. This aching feeling may not be associated with coughing. Tell your doctor if you notice any type of chest pain, whether it is sharp, dull, constant, or comes and goes. You should also note whether it is confined to a specific area or is occurring throughout your chest. When lung cancer causes chest pain, the discomfort may result from enlarged lymph nodes or metastasis to the chest wall, pleura (lining around the lungs), or the ribs. Wheezing When airways become constricted, blocked, or inflamed, the lungs produce a wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe. Wheezing can be associated with multiple causes, some of which are benign and easily treatable. However, wheezing is also a lung cancer symptom, which is why it merits your doctor’s attention. If wheezing continues, don’t assume it’s asthma or allergies. Have your doctor confirm what’s causing it. Raspy, Hoarse Voice If you hear a significant change in your voice, or if someone else points out that your voice sounds deeper, hoarse, or raspier, get checked out by your doctor. Hoarseness can be caused by a simple cold, but this symptom becomes worrisome when it hangs on for more than two weeks. Hoarseness related to lung cancer can occur when the tumor affects the nerve that controls the larynx, or voice box. Drop in Weight An unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more may be associated with lung cancer or another type of cancer. When cancer is present, this weight drop may result from cancer cells using energy in the body. It could also result from shifts in the way the body uses food energy. Don’t write off a change in your weight if you haven’t been trying to shed pounds—it may be a clue to a change in your health. Bone Pain Lung cancer that has spread to the bones may produce pain in the back or in other areas of the body. This pain may worsen at night while resting on the back. Additionally, lung cancer is sometimes associated with shoulder, arm, or neck pain, although this is less common. Be attentive to your aches and pains, and discuss them with your doctor. Headache Headaches may be a sign that lung cancer has spread to the brain. However, not all headaches in people with lung cancer are associated with brain metastases. Sometimes, a lung tumor may create pressure on the superior vena cava, which is the large vein that moves blood from the upper body to the heart. This pressure can also trigger headaches. Talk with your doctor if your body shows these symptoms.

Canine heart failure (pulmonary hypertension)
I am adding this photo so that other dog owners will know what to look for and bring their dog to the vet ASAP. She had labored breathing at times and a hacking cough like in this video. My dog had symptoms for close to a year and they got worse over time, but no one diagnosed her until it was too late. She was diagnosed about a week before she died with Pulmonary Hypertension. She was almost 15 years old.

An 8-year-old Pomeranian coughs and coughs at night - congestive heart failure
Wednesday, Apr 6, 2016 I asked the resident from Punggol, North Singapore why he came from a distance to Toa Payoh Vets as most pet owners simply go to the nearest vet clinic down the road. He is a retiree and a taxi driver now competing with Grab Taxi and Uber. He said that he had sent a pet owner to my Surgery some time ago and had asked the owner about Toa Payoh Vets. With a good feedback he came today. His dog had been coughing often at night (nocturnal cough) and one year ago, another vet had told him "water got into his dog's lungs" after an X-ray and so he was given medication for the dog. Recently the dog was coughing loudly at night. "Go and drink water" his wife said to the dog, but the coughing did not stop. So he consulted me. The dog had congestive cardiac failure and with heart disease medication and no strenuous exercise, will live comfortably at least 2 more years. He was happy with the explanation as it takes time and effort to explain to him what caused the coughing. Delayed treatment will lead to heart failure and death.

How is Malignant Mesothelioma Diagnosed? **Diagnosed with Mesothelioma**
**Diagnosed with Mesothelioma** Mesothelioma is most often diagnosed after a person goes to a doctor because of symptoms they are having. If there is a reason to suspect you might have mesothelioma, your doctor will examine you and use one or more tests to find out. Symptoms might suggest that the problem could be mesothelioma, but tests will be needed to confirm the diagnosis. **Diagnosed with Mesothelioma** Medical history and physical exam If you have any signs or symptoms that suggest you might have mesothelioma, your doctor will want to get your medical history to learn about your symptoms and possible risk factors, especially asbestos exposure. A physical exam can provide information about possible signs of mesothelioma and other health problems. Pleural mesothelioma can cause fluid to build up around the lungs in the chest (called a pleural effusion). In cases of peritoneal mesothelioma, fluid can build up in the abdomen (called ascites). In pericardial mesothelioma, fluid builds up in the sac around the heart (called a pericardial effusion). Rarely, mesothelioma can develop in the groin and look like a hernia. All of these might be found during a physical exam, such as when the doctor listens to these areas with a stethoscope or taps on the chest or abdomen.**Diagnosed with Mesothelioma** If mesothelioma is a possibility, tests will be needed to make sure. These might include imaging tests, blood tests, and other procedures. Imaging tests **Diagnosed with Mesothelioma** Imaging tests use x-rays, radioactive particles, sound waves, or magnetic fields to create pictures of the inside of your body. Imaging tests might be done for a number of reasons, such as: To look at suspicious areas that might be cancer To learn how far cancer has spread To help determine if treatment is working People thought to have mesothelioma may have one or more of these tests. Chest x-ray This is often the first test done if someone has symptoms such as a constant cough or shortness of breath. Findings that might suggest mesothelioma include an abnormal thickening of the pleura, calcium deposits on the pleura, fluid in the space between the lungs and the chest wall, or changes in the lungs themselves as a result of asbestos exposure. **Diagnosed with Mesothelioma** Computed tomography (CT) scan The CT scan uses x-rays to make detailed cross-sectional images of your body. Instead of taking one picture, like a regular x-ray, a CT scanner takes many pictures as it rotates around you while you are lying on a narrow table. A computer then combines these into images of slices of the body. CT scans are often used to help look for mesothelioma and to determine the exact location of the cancer. They can also help determine the stage (extent) of the cancer. For example, they can show if the cancer has spread to other organs. This can help determine if surgery might be a treatment option. Finally, CT scans can also be used to learn if treatment such as chemotherapy is shrinking or slowing the growth of the cancer. A CT scanner has been described as a large donut, with a narrow table that slides in and out of the middle opening. You will need to lie still on the table while the scan is being done. CT scans take longer than regular x-rays, and you might feel a bit confined by the ring while the pictures are being taken. Before the test, you might have to drink a liquid called oral contrast. This helps outline the intestine so that certain areas are not mistaken for tumors. You might also need an IV (intravenous) line through which a different kind of contrast is injected. This helps better outline structures in your body. The injection can cause some flushing (redness and warm feeling). Some people are allergic and get hives or, rarely, more serious reactions like trouble breathing and low blood pressure. Be sure to tell the doctor if you have any allergies (especially to iodine or shellfish) or have ever had a reaction to any contrast material used for x-rays. **Diagnosed with Mesothelioma** Echocardiogram This test uses sound waves to look at the heart. It may be done if your doctor suspects that you have fluid around your heart (a pericardial effusion). This test can also tell how well the heart is working. For the most common version of this test, you lie on a table while a technician moves an instrument called a transducer over the skin on your chest. A gel is often put on the skin first. Positron emission tomography (PET) scan For a PET scan, a radioactive substance (usually a type of sugar related to glucose, known as FDG) is injected into the blood. The amount of radioactivity used is very low. Because cancer cells grow quickly, they absorb more of the sugar than most other cells. After waiting about an hour, you lie on a table in the PET scanner for about 30 minutes while a special camera creates a picture of areas of radioactivity in the body. **Diagnosed with Mesothelioma**

They are working every second as you breathe, so it’s crucial to keep your lungs healthy. When you breathe in, healthy lungs take in oxygen and pass it along to the bloodstream, which in turn transports oxygen to organs and cells throughout your body. As you breathe out, healthy lungs dispose of carbon dioxide. But many people worldwide suffer from lung problems. According to the American Lung Association, more than 11 million Americans have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is defined as a group of lung conditions that make it difficult to empty air out of the lungs due to narrowed airways. Current or former smokers and people who’ve had frequent exposure to other irritants are at a higher risk for developing a lung disease. Other factors that put your lungs at risk include infections and exposure to allergens (including pet dander and dust mites), secondhand smoke, air pollution, workplace fumes, sawdust or other aerosolized particles. To keep your lungs healthy, you must be aware of the signs that indicate some kind of lung problem. Addressing it early will help protect your lungs from severe damage and reduce the risk of chronic lung disease as well as lung cancer. Here are key signs that indicate your lungs could be in trouble. 1. Ongoing Cough. Coughing helps protect the airways from inhaled irritants and helps remove phlegm (mucus) from the breathing passages. But a chronic cough is an indication that your lungs aren’t functioning normally. In fact, one of the first signs of unhealthy lungs is usually an ongoing cough that does not get better, even after taking medicine. Also, while coughing, you may have chest pain that extends up into your shoulder or down your arm.if you are coughing more or develop a persistent cough for no apparent reason, see your doctor. If excess mucus seems to be the problem, keeping your body hydrated with water and fluids will help thin the mucus so your body can expel it. 2. Labored Breathing. If you experience labored breathing, even while doing your regular daily chores, it’s another clear sign that something is wrong with your lungs. Shortness of breath or labored breathing happens when your lungs have to work harder than usual to move air in and out. It can also be due to some kind of blockage in the airway. When experiencing shortness of breath, do not disregard it and simply put the blame on your increasing age. Consult a doctor immediately. If it’s not a medical problem requiring treatment, you can exercise daily to build your strength and stamina. Also, practice deep breathing to ease shortness of breath. 3. Increased Mucus. Coughing usually goes hand in hand with the production of mucus or phlegm. Mucus helps keep germs, dirt, pollen and bacteria from getting stuck in the lungs. But when you start producing more mucus that is not due to a cold or other common illness, it is not a good sign. Also, you may notice changes in the color, thickness, amount or even smell of the mucus. In fact, if the mucus goes from clear to yellow or green or if it contains blood, it is a clear sign that something is wrong with your lungs. Blood in the mucus can be a sign of lung cancer, chronic bronchitis or emphysema. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms to find out the exact cause. 3a. Controlling Bleeding (CPR) (2018)
The third chapter of the CPR course covers Traumatic Injuries. This is the first lesson in chapter three, about Controlling Bleeding. Understanding blood loss is essential in providing care to a bleeding individual. The methods for providing this care are explained, from direct pressure to the application of a tourniquet. "Blood loss often gets the most attention from all of the traumatic injuries. Many times, the amount of bleeding is overestimated and draws attention to wounds when more serious injuries should be dealt with first. Whenever you are confronted with bleeding, first perform a quick overview of the individual to make sure something more serious is not being overlooked. When caring for a bleeding individual, always use personal protective equipment. The individual can be instructed to perform some self-care while you put on your protective gear. Very small wounds such as scrapes can heal more rapidly by using an antibiotic salve. Ask the individual if they have any allergies before applying the antibiotic salve. Thoroughly wash minor scrapes and abrasions with soap and water before bandaging. The most effective way to stop bleeding from a wound is to apply direct pressure. Use a dressing and your gloved hand to apply firm and direct pressure to the injured area. Continue holding the pressure until the bleeding stops. If there are multiple wounds, apply pressure dressings to the worst injuries first, and then to the lesser bleeding injuries. The injured individual may be able to temporarily assist by holding pressure on some areas. When direct pressure does not control bleeding, a tourniquet may be required. Understand that the application of a tourniquet is painful but may be necessary to prevent life-threatening blood loss. Tourniquet use is difficult and can be dangerous if done incorrectly. Always start with applying direct pressure first. To apply a tourniquet, first put on personal protective gear. Then, apply tourniquet approximately two inches above the wound. Tighten until the bleeding stops. Record the time the tourniquet was applied. Call 911. Stay with the individual and do not release the tourniquet until advanced help arrives and assumes care. Certain situations may produce massive internal bleeding that is not visible when examining the individual. This may occur from trauma, falls from a height, car accidents, or crush injuries. Penetrating injuries caused by a knife or gunshot may produce devastating internal bleeding with very little external blood loss. Any time you suspect these injuries, immediately call 911 and help the individual lie down and remain still. Check for signs and symptoms of shock. You may need to cover the individual to keep them warm. Stay with them until advanced help arrives." Shih Tzu Dog Pet Coughing Signs of Heart Disease hard to breathe
In my experiences with pets our animals will usually show us signs of things happening to them medically. It comes down to the mere fact if we know what those signs are. For heart disease in my dogs this was a sign. Hardness in breathing, coughing, gagging out of the blue or during walks. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Sinusitis, also known as sinus infection or rhinosinusitis, is a very common condition where the paranasal sinuses are inflamed, causing congested nose, headache and facial pain. Paranasal sinuses are air cavities in the bones of the skull. There are four pairs of sinuses located on either side of the head. They are the maxillary, frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses. The sinuses are lined with respiratory epithelium producing mucus. The mucus drains into the nasal cavity through small openings. Impaired sinus drainage has been associated with inflammation of sinuses. When a sinus is blocked, fluid builds up, making it a favorable environment for bacteria or viruses grow and cause infection. A typical sinusitis symptom is described as a dull pain or constant pressure commonly localized to the affected sinus. The pain may worsen when the person bends over or while lying down. Symptoms often start on one side of the head and spread to the other side. Acute sinusitis may be also be accompanied by thick nasal discharge of yellow greenish color. Sinusitis can be caused by: - Allergy(allergic rhinitis): allergens such as pollen, pet dander… may trigger inflammatory response of the mucosa of the nose and sinuses, resulting in excess mucus production, nasal congestion, sneezing and itching. - Infection: infection usually occurs as a complication of a common cold. Impaired sinus drainage due to inflammation of nasal mucosa during a cold often leads to infection of the sinus itself. Cold-like symptoms plus headache, facial pain or pressure are common complaints. - Other conditions that cause blockage of sinus drainage. These include: structural abnormalities such as deviated nasal septum; formation of nasal polyps. Treatments vary depending on the cause of sinusitis: - For allergy: intranasal corticosteroids are commonly used. - For viral infection: symptom relief medications such as nasal spray for irrigation and decongestion; other conservative treatment for common cold such as rest and drinking plenty of fluid. - For bacterial infection: antibiotics may be prescribed. - For recurrent or chronic sinusitis due to structural abnormalities or nasal polyps, nasal surgery may be recommended to clear up the drainage canal.

Our Baby Abby has MMM (Masticatory Muscle Myositis)
MMM Masticatory Muscle Myositis is and autoimmune disorder where the body attacks the 2M fibers in the jaw muscles. This is very painful and often results, as in Abby's case, in Trismus or lockjaw. Abby cannot open her mouth. Early diagnosis, treatment can stop the progression of the disease. However, there is no garauntee the damage to the muscles will be reversed. In advanced cases scar tissue replaces the muscle tissue and the dog can have impaired function of the jaw for the rest of the dogs life. It took 5 trips to the Vet and Animal hospital, consultation with a specialist to get a diagnosis. Abby is only 4 years old. This is a rare disease but it can happen to your dog. The vet bills are mounting up and are currently over 3000 dollars just to get the diagnosis. We still have to deal with the treatment costs and further consultations with the specialist. Any help would be appreciated please visit our go fund me page.

Stop it... Please Stop It. Think about the words you speak or type, words really do hurt. In 2014 I found out I need a double lung transplant https://www.youcaring.com/junegaul-749914 https://www.paypal.me/JuneGaulF https://teespring.com/get-june-gauls-fundraiser https://www.gearbubble.com/gbstore/junegaulfundraiser https://www.facebook.com/junegaulsfundraiser/ I have Lupus, Hashimoto's disease, gastroparesis, pulmonary hypertension, to top things off I have COPD (chronic bronchitis/asthma/emphysema). I went into adult respiratory distress 6 months after getting my ceramics studio in 2004. I spent a week in the hospital and came out on oxygen, I was told uncontrolled asthma. In the middle of 2010, the 911 calls started because I couldn't breathe. Dec 2012, I crashed and made it through without being intubated, just a year old Annie my toy fox terrier saved my life by calling out for help. My lungs are 'shot' due to ceramic/porcelain dust and fumes from the kilns that caused emphysema, scaring and lupus. In 2014, I was told I need a double lung transplant, we don't know how long I have. We do the best we can to adapt, climbing over the hurdles we face and getting on with life. I'm not a Vlogger like many, I am finally learning how to edit videos, I don't carry my cell phone ready to hit record but I'll add to each playlist as best I can.
