First Female Viagra Pill Aimed at Improving Women’s Sex Drive

00:35
Now, women have their own Viagra called Addyi. The first drug meant to boost sexual desire in women. US Food and Drug Administration has finally given a green signal to the pill, which they had twice rejected due to insignificant benefits and worrisome side effects. This approval marks a milestone, long sought by the pharmaceutical industry. The drug has been developed by Sprout, a pharmaceutical company based in Raleigh, North Carolina. PHILIPPINES: VIAGRA GOES ON SALE NATIONWIDE

03:27
Tagalog/Eng/Nat Viagra, the headline grabbing anti-impotency pill, is now on sale in the Philippines. Pfizer, who manufacture the drug, have started delivering to local drugstores in Manila, two weeks after the local Bureau of Food and Drug gave its approval for its sale in the country. Pharmacies in the Philippines have finally begun to receive their stocks of Viagra. The manufacturer Pfizer, started deliveries of the new wonder drug at drugstores in Manila this week. Some stores already began selling the drug on Tuesday. With Viagra becoming the talk of the town, drugstore owners are anticipating a huge demand. Pharmacy owner Bhoyette Vizconde sold five tablets on the first day. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I already hoard (laughs) stocks because I'm really expecting that being the first to have Viagra here in our vicinity, I'm sure a lot of people will come here and inquire or buy Viagra." SUPER CAPTION: Bhoyette Vizconde, Owner of Marcelo's Pharmacy Pharmacy Plus received its first supply early this week. Owner James Sandoval, who owns several stores in the capital, put a few boxes of the pill on the shelf to show clients that the drug is now available. But before the drug was put on sale in his stores, Sandoval issued a memo to all his store managers to ensure that safety precautions are practiced before the drug is dispensed to patients. The B-F-A-D says it is important the pill is only sold to patients who come with a legitimate prescription from their doctors. Each pill comes with a leaflet giving warnings of possible side-effects if the drug is not taken properly. Pfizer warned that the drug should not be taken by people being treated with nitrate-based medication for heart problems. While he expects a huge demand for the drug, Sandoval said Filipino men may be a little shy of asking for the drug themselves. He says the men here will probably not want to admit they need Viagra and so he is arranging a home delivery service to put them out of their misery. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Because maybe at the secrecy of their own home, they can acquire the product because they might be too embarrassed to come forward to admit that they have a sexual problem. Any person that comes forward asking about the product - they're so defensive, they say right away "Hey listen I don't have a problem with this. I'm just inquiring". That goes to tell you how sensitive the issue is." SUPER CAPTION: James Sandoval, Owner of A-B Sandoval Drugstore Dr. Jesus Mendoza is a local doctor who has been checking out the testing of the Viagra drug. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Well, I was pretty excited and wanted to find out whether it was really going to work. Of course, there was some degree of skepticism at first. But when we started seeing back the patients who were on the study, then it was confirmed that my gosh, this works." SUPER CAPTION: Dr. Jesus Mendoza, Urologist In a press conference early this month, Pfizer said the approval from B-F-A-D came after they completed a six-month study of its effects on 500 men from six Asian countries, including the Philippines. The man who discovered Viagra, Dr. Peter Ellis, was in Manila last week and spoke of how his drug differs from the others already available in the market. SOUNDBITE: (English) "And I think the beauty of the drug is that it works to enhance the natural process. All the other products that are out there, you take the product, you get an erection. But Viagra, you take the product, you don't get an erection but it's only when sexually aroused. So it's basically enhancing a perfectly natural function and restoring it back to normal." PAKISTAN: VIAGRA FINDS ITS WAY ONTO THE BLACK MARKET

02:57
Urdu/Eng/Nat Doctors in Pakistan are warning of the dangers of men buying the impotence pill Viagra on the black market and taking it without prescription. The sale of the drug in the country is currently being debated by the government - it says it wants to make sure the drug will be made available in the safest possible way. But medical experts say the problem of impotency is high in the country and that men are anxious to try out supplies of Viagra introduced illegally at a high price. Viagra, the impotency pill, is proving to be big business in Pakistan. The drug, first released in the U-S in March 1998, is legally available in more than 50 countries worldwide. Many people consider it the beginning of a new revolution in pharmaceuticals. In Pakistan, the government is currently discussing when and how to introduce the drug. But Viagra has already found its way onto the black market in the country's capital Islamabad and can be bought at a high price. One tablet can cost anything from 20 to 50 U-S dollars - a bottle of Viagra tablets can cost anything from 360 to 800 U-S dollars. Some Viagra users say the drug has been freely available to them for some time now and that they're prepared to pay up. SOUNDBITE: (Urdu) "Viagra is a sex drug and I have been using it for about two years and found it very good, because it adds energy to the body if we use it two hours before sexual intercourse. I have found no other medicine better than Viagra and the demand for it is now growing." SUPER CAPTION: Abdul Qadir, Viagra user The country's health department has so far been reluctant to legalise Viagra - but it is aware of the black market problem and is prosecuting anyone found selling the drug. Government officials say they want to make sure that there are no loopholes before Viagra is legally available in Pakistan. SOUNDBITE: (English) "In the West they know that this drug has got side effects and that it is a prescription drug. So nobody can buy it without prescription, while in Pakistan we still have some loopholes, some weaknesses where the drug can be sold over the counter and this is my main worry in resisting to register it." SUPER CAPTION: Professor Ghayyur H. Ayub, Director General of Health Ministry There have been worries that Viagra may have side effects. But Pfizer, the company that produces Viagra, maintains the drug is a safe medicine for erectile dysfunction when used as recommended in the approved package insert. There are already many legal drugs on sale in Pakistan to help enhance sex. Herbal doctors offer remedies for impotency, claiming they're natural products that have no side effects. The herbal remedy sellers can often be found on roadsides doing a roaring trade - but even they now say that the new wonder drug is threatening their trade. Medical experts say there is no official impotency figure in the country because Pakistani men are reluctant to admit they have a problem in a nation where sex is a taboo subject. But doctors say it is an ever increasing problem and they are warning of the dangers of taking the impotence pill without prescription. Doctor Khalid Saeed said it is even more of a worry as impotency affects men of all ages. SOUNDBITE: (English) "There are two basic main groups in which we can find this who come to us commonly. One is the younger age group - they are really people in their early 20s and the other group is somewhere in the late 40s and 50s and both of them have different presentations. People in the younger age group generally come to you just before they are about to get married." SUPER CAPTION: Dr Khalid Saeed, Consultant Psychiatrist at the Institute of Psychiatry, Rawalpindi In the meantime, they are encouraging people to seek alternative remedies. The FDA has approved what is being referred to as the female version of Viagra but it’s actually very different from Viagra. The drug is going to be referred to as Addyl and the clinical term for it is flibanserin Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss. The Myth of "Female Viagra"

00:39
Viagra does not affect the desire for sex in men, it just helps with the hydraulics. The drug boosts blood flow to the genitals so men can get and sustain an erection. Yet the female libido drug that passed muster at a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel this week will not live up to the “female Viagra” hype it’s been getting. The new drug is designed to alter women’s brain chemistry over time to help increase sex drive. Unlike Viagra, it does not spark an immediate physical change in the body. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-myth-of-female-viagra/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Female Viagra Is Real and It's Coming Soon

01:35
After being shot down by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration twice, Addyi (flibanserin)—the “female Viagra”—has been approved. The drug, a little pink pill (because pink is for girls, duh), treats premenopausal women with low sex drives. And despite it being called the female Viagra, it works in a completely different way. Viagra targets the physical problem of erectile dysfunction, while Addyi targets the central nervous system and helps increase sexual desire. Viagra is only taken when needed before sex whereas Addyi needs to be taken once every night. Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said of the approval, “The FDA strives to protect and advance the health of women, and we are committed to supporting the development of safe and effective treatments for female sexual dysfunction.” Addyi’s side effects include severe low blood pressure and loss of consciousness, especially among patients who drink alcohol while on the drug. Addyi will come with a box warning alerting people who drink alcohol while on the drugs, people with liver problems, and people who take certain medications. Women on Addyi have a 37% increase in sexual desire according to clinical trials held by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, the company responsible for the drug. Addyi will be available starting in October. FDA Approves 'Female Viagra' Pill

01:01
The Food and Drug Administration approved a so-called "female Viagra" pill Tuesday, saying it wanted to offer an option to women with sexual dysfunction, a decision that disappointed doctors and advocates who said the drug didn't work safely enough to justify approval. Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said, "Today's approval provides women distressed by their low sexual desire with an approved treatment option." The drug works by changing how brain cells respond to various message carrying chemicals called neurotransmitters, with the aim of changing a woman's sexual desire over time. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/4918331a/sc/14/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Chealth0Csexual0Ehealth0Cfda0Eapproves0Esays0Eno0Efemale0Eviagra0En411711/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

‘Female viagra’ Flibanserin improves women’s libido and gets FDA approval

Despite being dubbed the female viagra, unlike Viagra, which affects blood flow to the genitals, Flibanserin, works on the brain. According to Sprout Pharmaceuticals, the privately held startup that designed the drug, Flibanserin focuses on the brain's prefrontal cortex and enables sexual desire to manifest by rebalancing neurotransmitters that influence it. Specifically, flibanserin increases dopamine and norepinephrine, responsible for sexual excitement, and decreases serotonin, which is responsible for sexual satiety and inhibition. This is likely achieved by a reduction of glutamate transmission. Women who took the drug in a clinical study have shown an increase of about 1.0 more sexually satisfying events per month, Reuters reported. The pill needs to be taken every day and its most common side effects are dizziness, nausea and sleepiness. Advocates claim that the increase in sexually satisfying events is meaningful, while critics say the benefit is outweighed by the drug’s risks. Flibanserin will be sold under the brand name Addyi. As the drug could potentially cause dangerously low blood pressure and fainting when taken with alcohol it will be sold exclusively through certified health care professionals and pharmacies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. WOMAN 3: A silent wall of shame grew between us IGOR VOLSKY: These women suffer from lack of sexual desire and now a new pill developed by Sprout Pharmaceuticals could help jump start their libido. JAMES SIMON: This has been under the radar, hidden, most women are just sucking it up, so to speak. IGOR VOLSKY: After years with no FDA-approved solutions, Flibanserin -- popularly known as “the female Viagra” -- may finally provide women with treatment. In fact, women’s health groups have joined with the pharmaceutical company to create a new campaign called Even The Score. That campaign is lobbying the FDA to approve Flibanserin. It's about time, right? CINDY PEARSON: Even The Score is full of lies, knowing willful lies. IGOR VOLSKY: One such lie, the campaign strongly implies the drug is similar to Viagra, but that's not true at all. Men take the little blue pill when they want to have sex to increase blood flow to the penis. Women would have to take Flibanserin daily -- and that pill works to convince the brain to desire sex. Also, as one of the doctors advising the FDA told us, this drug isn’t for nearly any women. CALEB ALEXANDER: In general medicine, in my clinical practice of 15 years, I’ve never met a woman that fulfills the formal diagnostic criteria for this disorder. IGOR VOLSKY: And for the few pre-menopausal women who do qualify, they would have to make some major life changes. The only way I could take this product as a woman is: I have to stop drinking, I have to get off my prescription birth control, contraception pill... CALEB ALEXANDER: No anti-fungal medicine for vaginal yeast infections. IGOR VOLSKY: Ok, stop that. And I have to take it at night and over a six month period I might, during some point in that six months experience a slightly heightened desire to have sex. CALEB ALEXANDER: Right. IGOR VOLSKY: In fact, the few participants who made such a small increase in their sexual activity that we had trouble characterizing it. And many participants experienced adverse effects that the expert panelists feared would only increase in the general population. CALEB ALEXANDER: If you faint while you drive a car, you may kill yourself or someone else. These safety concerns in light of the very modest effectiveness benefit together don’t present a favorable package. IGOR VOLSKY: The FDA previously rejected Flibanserin twice and this third time around, they requested an additional study of how the drug interacts with alcohol. The company enrolled 25 people: 23 men and only 2 women -- and later claimed it didn’t have the ‘foresight’ to enroll more women. CINDY PEARSON: Sprout Pharmaceuticals set off to do the right thing, I believe, but they then went astray. When the FDA said, we’re still not convinced, you still haven’t answered all the questions about safety, then they started advancing pretty significant amounts of money into this marketing campaign IGOR VOLSKY: After a full day of hearings, the panel voted 18-6 to approve the drug, though not without conditions and some serious reservations. PANELIST 1: Women suffering from HSDD deserve better than this. PANELIST 2: I think we all wish it was a drug that was a better one. PANELIST 3: There are serious safety concerns, so my yes is conditional. PANELIST 4: If this were the 7th drug in the class, I think it would be a very different discussion. IGOR VOLSKY: So will this drug really help women? JAMES SIMON: It is not perfect. The drug is not perfect, the FDA is not perfect. We accept certain imperfections to move progress. CINDY PEARSON: If the FDA approves flibanserin, I will be convinced forever that it came about as a result of a brilliant marketing campaign and not the result of good science and I’m afraid women will suffer as a result.

New Bill Would Make Viagra Less Accessible for Men

00:53
Last week, South Carolina Rep. Mia McLeod filed a bill that would make it harder for men to access erectile dysfunction drugs. If the bill becomes law, men seeking drugs like Viagra would have to wait 24 hours between getting a prescription and buying the drug, would need to have continual heart-monitoring and therapy sessions after first using the drug, and would be required to sign an affidavit from a sexual partner confirming that he really does suffer from ED. McLeod told NBC affiliate WCBD that she “purposely tried to make the bill as invasive, as intrusive, as hypocritical, and unnecessary as possible,” to show her male colleagues how insane abortion regulation seems to women. http://fusion.net/story/245874/mia-mcleod-viagra-bill-abortion/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=/feed/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

'Female viagra' Flibanserin improves women's libido and gets FDA approval - TomoNews

01:02
Washington- The Food and Drug Administration has approved a libido-enhancing pill for premenopausal women whose lack of sexual desire causes distress, Reuters reported. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. FDA approves "female viagra"

02:12
The FDA approved the first treatment for low sexual libido in women this week. Addyi is the pill dubbed the female viagra. Experts say it works differently than the men's version-which moves blood flow to the pelvic floor. Instead of the physical aspect, Addyi focuses on the mental portion for women. It's hard to miss an ad for 26 medications that help men with low libido, but you won't find one for women just yet.... Amanda Parrish says, "I know the big campaign has been 26-0, we're just on the board now with one option." The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved flibanserin also known as Addyi, on Tuesday. Amanda Parrish is not only an advocate, along with her husband Ben...but joined the clinical trial when they were dating. Amanda Parrish says, "It's such an unmet need and such an untalked about thing. About four years into our relationship which was very positive, sexually charged, very emotionally healthy, I noticed a change." With hypo-active sexual desire disorder, she took the pink pill for about 9 months. The FDA then turned it down in 2009. Parrish says, "I was frustrated and worried because after about two weeks everything went back to normal. The whole time I was on the trial I became an active initiator again, we had so much fun." Brooke Faught says, "For the women that do take this medication and do respond to itit can significantly make a difference ." Brooke Faught, is the clinical director of The Womens Institute for Sexual Health. WISH worked with the trial drug developed by Sprout Pharmaceuticals. Fraught says, "This is absolutely not a date rape drug. This medication does not make women hypersexual, it gently increases women's sexual events per month as well as the neurotransmitters." Along with WISH, Parrish is celebrating...texting her husband about the fda approval I said, it's going to be a great winter so cozy up cowboy and he texted back, yeehaw! Even though we haven't had the drug in five years, we've had the benefit of opinion line of communication." Parrish is a womens health blogger and just started She4Women non-profit. Experts say, Addyi should be available this October. The drugs interaction with alcohol showed that flibanserin can cause hypotension and dizziness in some patients who drink.

Female Viagra Addyi

01:53
http://www.sexhealthdoc.com/ I was recently asked to comment on the release of the new female Viagra pill, which by the way won't be released until October 17th, 2015, and the differences between how it works and Viagra for men. The main difference that I understand based on all of the information that I've read about, is that the male Viagra affects the genital regions, it basically increases blood flow to male genitals. What's interesting to think about there, is I consider that to be a biological solution to Erectile Dysfunction for men. Now, the female Viagra pill Addyi, which is being marketed by Sprout Pharmaceuticals is more of an anti depressant pill, which must be taken on a daily basis. It's meant to improve sexual desire over time, but it's really more of a psychological approach to female sexual dysfunction, basically hypo-sexual disorder. Basically, it's low libido for women. Of course there's a lot of controversy of the side effects of the drug when women take it. I'm sure we're going to hear and learn a lot more about the drug as it becomes more popular, but for right now that's my comment. Visit http://SexHealthDoc.com for more information on Dr. Beiter or to contact him.

Bec orders female viagra!

05:19
It's not at all like male viagra... Now that 'female viagra' or Addyi, is available by prescription, we imagined what it might be like for doctors around the world.... Patient : Oh, yes – I would like female Viagra please. Doctor: Err, do you mean Addyi? – it’s generic name is flibanserin Patient: Uhm – I mean like – the magic sex drug. I saw that theres this pill -- like male viagra -- and you can have amazing sex on it, so if boys can have it, girls should be able to have it too, so i want it. I mean, more is more right? Doctor: Well, Hmm. See, male Viagra – what you are referring to – is actually very different. It sends blood to the male genitals – and uhh, this is actually totally different to the female version – which works on your brain chemistry to increase labido. So, it’s really not like Viagra at all. Patient: But it’s a sex drug, right? Can you – write me a prescription. Doctor See, Flibanserin, the generic name – is actually for people with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). You don’t just pop it, if you want to have more sex. It’s a treatment for a condition. Patient : So, what are the symptoms of that – condition. Doctor : Uhh – low libido – Patient : Low libido! that’s totally me. Doctor : Really? Because, that’s not what you said originally. I think you said “more is more”. Patient : Oh, I was talking about eyebrows. But in terms of low libido – that’s totally me. Doctor : Can you tell me a little bit about that? Patient : Well, yeah sure. Well like the other night I was drunk at TAO, and this hot guy came up to me – and he had those abdomen muscles like Brad Pitt in fight club – and then we caught an uber back to his place in Flatbush – and it was like, I mean – let’s just say I felt sorry for the driver – but anyway – when I woke up the next day – I still had my skiiny jeans on. Doctor : Umm. Okay. This is mainly meant to help people with issues in intimate relationships. Patient : And the other day – the delivery guy from los tacos, we’re like – pretty close, if you know what I mean – like, Domingo is really special to me, I mean I see him basically everytime I order tacos – and the other night – he asked me if I wanted anything else – and like – “I was like, you know what – I just wanted to eat my quesadilla and watch Orange is the New Black.” Doctor : Okay, well. Let’s do a medical check, and see that this is right for you. Are you currently on any other medication? Patient : Just the pill. – For my T-zone. Doctor : Are you allergic to any medications? Patient : Umm. Not really. I did feel nautious last time I took Plan B. But that was like – in summer-ish. Doctor : How many sexual partners do you have? Patient : Pass. Doctor : Are you currently pregnant? Patient : I hope not! I’m pretty sure – no? Wait. When was the Marquee opening? How definitive of an answer do you need for that? Doctor : Umm – when was the first day of your last period? Patient :Oh – I have my diary – I can work this out...Monday! Doctor : So you’re on your period now? Patient :Yes! So I’m defiantly not pregnant. Doctor : Okay – so – just – take this to the pharmacy. Now, you can’t consume alcohol while you are on these. Patient :Ugh, god – it’s like being on antibiotics. Doctor : Well yes – it kind of is, because it’s prescription medication. Patient : Oh. I’ll save it for special occasions. Like champagne! But not. Doctor : You actually have to take this medication every day. Patient : Oh. What happens if you don’t? Doctor : It won’t be effective. Patient : What happens if I accidentally – like say, if someone spiked my drink – with vodka. Doctor: You’ll suffer negative side effects. Dizziness, nausea… Patient : Any hallucinating? Doctor : Not typically, no. Patient : Oh. Well, this should be good anyway. Thanks so much doctor. Doctor : Is there anything else I can help you with today? Patient : No thanks. Oh; you guys don’t do medical marujana here do you? This video is presented by Jayde Lovell, produced and edited by Solvi Haugseth, at Youtube Space NYC. Mid of neon lights advertising karaoke and Thai massage STORYLINE Thai police presented a haul of counterfeit viagra and other goods to the media on Tuesday, seized from various locations in Bangkok. The pills - often imported from China and India - are sold "under the counter" and help fuel the city''s notorious sex industry. They''re the right size, shape and colour. Even the packaging looks convincing, but the only thing that''s real about these pills is the potential threat to buyers, police say. Thai police raided stalls and shops in the capital last week after complaints from the public. They seized thousands of boxes of counterfeit viagra, levitra and other sexual stimulants, gels and sprays with an estimated street value of around 16-thousand US dollars. According to officials at the Food and Drug Administration, the counterfeit drugs often have far higher doses of the active ingredient than is safe; in the case of some fake viagra, they say, as much as ten times the stated amount. The FDA''s secretary-general, Dr. Pipat Yingseree, said such overdoses could kill. There are no figures on how many people die in Thailand each year as a result of taking sex pills but it''s often cited as a factor in sudden deaths, especially of visiting males. As well as the pills, police also seized sex toys, which are illegal in Thailand under obscenity laws. Bangkok has a well-established sex industry, serving tourists as well as locals. Some of the stalls and shops raided by police last week were in the Nana district, one of the most notorious red light districts. How Viagra Could Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

01:07
www.rxwiki.com The little blue pill may have found another use outside the bedroom. A new study from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine found that sildenafil (brand name Viagra) may improve insulin sensitivity and reduce a biomarker that signals an increased risk of heart and kidney disease in prediabetes patients. In prediabetes, blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. "We need additional strategies to help slow the progression from prediabetes to diabetes," said study author Nancy J. Brown, MD, a professor of medicine at Vanderbilt, in a press release. "Weight loss and exercise regimens can be difficult to maintain, and some current medications have been limited by concerns about adverse effects. Sildenafil and related drugs could offer a potential avenue for addressing the rising number of diabetes diagnoses."
