Child kidnapping stopped: Hero bus driver saves three-year-old from abductor - TomoNews

01:47
MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA — A Northern California bus driver is being hailed a hero after he says he followed his parental instincts, an intuition so sharp it led him to stop a kidnapper from abducting a young boy on Friday. A 3-year-old boy was reported kidnapped at the Milpitas Public Library at around 10:40 a.m. Local police quickly responded, closing the library to incoming and outgoing traffic and sending alerts to all area bus drivers to be on the lookout. Tim Watson was on his morning shift when he caught sight of one of the alerts and about an hour later, the driver noticed a passenger in his mid-20's with a crying boy, both of whom matched descriptions mentioned in the police alert. Trusting his fatherly instincts Watson pulled the bus over and announced that someone had lost a backpack. "What I'm really trying to do is to get up without him knowing to look at the little boy," Watson told ABC 7 News. "So sure enough, I see the plaid shorts and red shoes. That's what really stuck out in my mind." The father of two noticed the boy's red shoes and quickly radioed police. "And that's when my own kids came to mind and I just broke down. I couldn't hold myself down. I just had to go inside the bus and reflect," said Watson. The parents of the child were too emotional to speak publicly, but were thankful to both the police and Watson for rescuing their little boy. Milpitas police detained Alfonso David Edington, 23, who had no connections to the family and is currently being held on charges of kidnapping. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Brazil homeless hero killed on video saving woman held hostage by Sao Paulo shooter - TomoNews

01:58
SAO PAULO — A violent drama played out on the steps of the Sao Paulo Cathedral, in Brazil's largest city, last Friday afternoon, when a hunted criminal took a woman hostage in an attempt to evade capture by police. 49-year-old Luiz Antonio da Silva had just finished a 22-year stint in prison, when he again ran afoul of the cops. After 20 minutes praying in the church with this 25-year-old woman, he attempted to use her as a human shield to avoid police. When da Silva exited the church, the woman caught a cop's attention, so da Silva fired at him. At the familiar sound of gunfire, a crowd of pedestrians gather at the scene, showing how inured to violence people in Sao Paulo have become. But out of the gawking crowd, only a 61-year-old homeless man named Francisco Erasmo Rodrigues de Lima took it upon himself to do something. While police held the gunman's attention, de Lima snuck around a parked truck and up the steps. Then de Lima crept all the way up to the gunman and dove on him, freeing the hostage. It's at this point that perceptions diverge. The men fight and da Silva and the police both start shooting. In a moment, both men will be dead. Police say that after the old vagrant knocked da Silva onto the ground, the gunman fired several shots into de Lima's chest. Yet others say da Silva missed, and it was a police bullet that killed the brave man. Whichever the case, the last incredible act shown on the video is members of the Sao Paulo police disregarding de Lima as he bleeds to death, alone, in the church doorway. A homeless friend of Francisco Erasmo Rodrigues de Lima said the 61 year old father of four often stepped up to intervene in fights. He had lived on the streets for 10 years before he died. De Lima was buried north of Sao Paulo following a small ceremony with his estranged wife and two children in attendance. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Real life John Q: Texas dad pulls gun, saves son after medics were ready to let him die - Tomonews

01:32
HOUSTON — A Texas father who pulled a gun on medical staff because he disagreed with the decision to turn off his son's life support was released from jail recently after the charges against him were reduced. George Pickering's son, George III, was in a coma at Tomball Regional Medical Center in Houston in January following a massive stroke when hospital staff decided to order a "terminal wean," or the switching off of his life support. The authorities had also already notified an organ donation service when George senior decided to take direct action. George, who admits he was drunk, pulled out a 9mm handgun and threatened hospital staff, saying he would kill them all. Although he was quickly disarmed by another of his sons, the police were called and a four-hour standoff with a SWAT team ensued. During the siege, George junior, who has a history of seizures, squeezed his father's hand several times. Knowing his son was alive, the father decided to give himself up. George junior later made a full recovery. George senior, meanwhile, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One charge was later dismissed, while the other was lessened. He was released from jail earlier this month. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Pinworms in your butt: 7YO infected with millions of worms from biting her nails

01:25
You know when your mom and dad tell you to go wash your hands before eating, but you don’t really think your hands are all that dirty? Think again. You could have tiny nearly invisible pinworm eggs under your fingernails. Pinworms are tiny worms that commonly infect the intestines, particularly of children. Pinworms are really small, about as long as a staple. They infect their host by getting in through the mouth, then the eggs pass through the digestive tract and hatch in the small intestine. The baby worm then grows up and moves out into the large intestine. The females will move to the very end of the large intestine and come out of the body at night to lay their eggs around the host’s anus. A 7 year old girl living in Fujian had a bad habit of nail biting and began complaining to her mother that her bottom itched. The mother used a flashlight to examine her daughter’s anus and was shocked to see something wriggling around along the edges. Ah, the joys of parenthood! Anyway, she immediately took her daughter to the hospital. The doctor explained that since the pinworms came out late at night to lay their eggs around the girl’s anus she would often scratch her anus, then bite her nails, thus feeding the pinworms back into her system. The girl had quite a colony of wriggling pinworms living inside her by the time her mother brought her to hospital. The doctor gave her girl some de-worming medication and she should be worm free within 2 weeks. Maybe now she’ll wash her hands when her parents tell her to. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Ebola virus turns doctor's eyes green, virus lurks in eyeballs and testicles - TomoNews

01:32
The West African Ebola epidemic is almost over, after leaving 10,000 people dead between 2013 and 2015. But doctors have now discovered the virus can live on for months inside the eyeballs of those who survive it. Dr. Ian Crozier, an American, contracted Ebola while treating patients in Sierra Leone in September 2014. He was flown to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on September 9th, and with the help of experimental drugs and round the clock care for 40 straight days, he managed to survive Ebola. Or so he thought. In December 2014, two months after beating the virus, he was back at Emory with intense pain in his left eye. Ophthalmologist Dr. Steven Yeh pierced Dr. Crozier's eye with a hair-thin needle to take a fluid sample. When they examined the fluid, they discovered that Dr. Crozier's eyeballs were swarming with the Ebola virus. His tears and outer eye were free of the virus, so he wasn't contagious, the virus was completely confined to the inside of his eyes. Dr. Crozier was re-hospitalized as he started to go blind. The virus even changed his swollen eyes from blue to green, then started to deflate them as the pressure dropped. Finally, after trying everything else, his doctors got permission from the FDA to try an experimental antiviral drug. It took months, but Dr. Crozier's vision eventually returned. He and the doctors at Emory now hope his experience can help the tens of thousands of Ebola survivors in West Africa through their recovery as well. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Russia superhighway: NYC to London by car a reality or pipedream?

01:28
Driving from London to New York City would be possible if Russia succeeds in building a superhighway spanning across the country with links to western Europe and Asia. During a March meeting, head of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin unveiled an ambitious plan called the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development, which entails constructing a superhighway and an accompanying high-speed railway. If the plan is realised, motorists will be able to drive from London to New York. Russia hopes the development will spur the economies of remote cities and towns. The Trans-Siberian Railway is about 9,000 kilometres long. According to CNN, a road trip from London to New York would cover about 20,777 kilometers. Yakunin said other infrastructure such as oil pipelines, power plants and water supply facilities will be built alongside the highway and high-speed railway. The mega highway system will face a multitude of difficulties, one of them being the connection to Alaska across the Bering Strait. Either a long bridge or a undersea tunnel would be needed. Money is likely to be another challenge. Russian Railways said the construction cost would amount to trillions of dollars. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Amazing cat rescue: Man has his Mercedes dismantled to free trapped pussy - TomoNews

01:23
Cat lovers rejoice, there’s hope for humanity yet. On Mother’s Day this young man - let’s call him Joe - aged 27, decided to go out cruising in his Mercedes Benz. Joe said he stopped his car when he saw two young teenagers looking up into a tree along the side of a bridge. He stopped to offer assistance. The two teenagers told him there was a kitten stuck up in the tree. Joe then climbed up into the tree to rescue the kitten, but the cat darted away from him and fell out of the tree into the river beneath. Joe climbed down from the tree and then jumped into the slow moving river to save the kitten from drowning. Unfortunately, the panicked and now completely soaked kitten ran from its rescuers, climbing up inside the engine of Joe’s Mercedes to hide. No matter what the three did, they couldn’t convince the kitten to come out. So Joe had his beloved motor towed to the nearest dealership so that the professionals could dismantle the engine and retrieve the poor kitty. The kitten was then dried off and fed before Joe took it to a veterinarian. The vet gave the kitten a clean bill of health and said it was probably only 6 months old. When asked about all the time and effort Joe put into rescuing one kitten he just shrugged and said the real effort would be convincing his girlfriend to let him keep it. Maybe he can just tell her it followed him home? ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Soldier jumps on grenade: Hero Marine who saved squad in Iraq denied Medal of Honor - TomoNews

01:38
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — After years of fighting for a Medal of Honor nomination, the family of a heroic Marine sergeant has given up and instead accepted a Navy Cross on his behalf. Sgt. Rafael Peralta died in Iraq after absorbing the blow of a grenade that would likely have killed members of his team. He was just 25. Former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel rejected the Medal of Honor bid because the details of Peralta’s death are still under dispute. On the morning of November 15th 2004, Peralta’s team was clearing houses in Fallujah. Inside the fourth house, the team threw open a door to find several insurgents armed with AK-47s. The Marines exchanged fire with the men and killed one of the insurgents. During the fire exchange, a bullet struck Rafael, severely injuring him. Reports indicate Peralta was struck by a bullet from his own team as he tried to move out of the line of fire. As the remaining insurgents retreated, a grenade landed next to Peralta. Initial reports indicated he pulled the grenade under his body in an effort to shield his men from the explosion. But later reports contradicted that story. “I can remember people saying it would be the right thing to do, to say that he did more than he did,” said Reggie Brown, who was inside the house with Peralta, during a 2014 interview with the Washington Post. “I disagree with everything my fellow Marines proclaim to have seen,” Brown said. Other Marines have disputed Brown’s statement. Regardless, Peralta’s body did absorb the blow of the grenade, which normally has a 5-meter killing radius. On Monday morning, Peralta’s mother accepted the Navy Cross, which is the second highest award a Marine can receive. Peralta’s brother spoke at the ceremony and read the last letter he received from the fallen hero. In it, Peralta told his little brother to “just remember that I already lived my life to the fullest.” Peralta was a Mexican immigrant, who reportedly enlisted in the military the same day he received his green card. “His legacy will carry on as long as the Marine Corps stays alive,” Rick Peralta said during the ceremony. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Kidnapping escape: boy uses tricks he learned from crime movies in Sichuan, China - TomoNews

01:29
DEYANG, CHINA — A teenage boy who was kidnapped on his way to school in China's Sichuan province on September 24 was able to escape using tactics he learned by watching crime movies, the People's Daily Online reported. The 13-year-old was thrown in the back of a van and then was bound and gagged in an abandoned building located in a remote village. Elite Readers reported that the kidnapper called his parents and had the teen tell them that he had been kidnapped and to not contact the police, before demanding the equivalent of around $20,462 in ransom money. When he thought his captor had left, the boy untied himself and tried to flee, but the kidnapper was just outside of the building and caught him. The teen was tied up tighter, but when the kidnapper had left a second time, the boy shouted to see if he was still there, and then fled the abandoned building while still tied up. The boy made it to a nearby residential area, where he was rescued by residents who called the police. The kidnapper was arrested at a cybercafe later that day. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Renewable energy: CETO system converts sea waves into zero-emission electricity

01:21
An Australian company has been working on a system that uses underwater buoys to convert sea waves into zero-emission energy and desalinated water. Australian firm Carnegie Wave Energy has been developing a system called CETO, which aims to utilise sea waves to generate power. Steel-made buoys that can currently generate 240 kilowatts are the main part of the system. At the Australian naval base HMAS Stirling, three buoys are placed 11 kilometres apart. The buoys are less susceptible to extreme weather damage, while underwater waves are sufficient to generate power. The buoys' pumps drive the high pressure water to an onshore power plant via a subsea pipe. The high pressure water spins the turbines, which then generate zero-carbon electricity. The CETO system can be used to power a desalination plant as well. High pressure water can be utilised to remove salt from seawater through a permeable membrane in a process called reverse osmosis. The Australian company believes that the cost of electricity generated by the CETO system will be competitive with diesel if it is deployed at a large scale. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Free-range kids: CPS takes children away from couple again in example of parenting police state

01:39
A family in Silver Spring, Maryland could face charges for child neglect for the second time in a matter of months. Danielle and Sasha Meitiv found themselves in the national spotlight in January, after neighbors complained they were letting their children roam the neighborhood unattended. The Meitivs -- who are both scientists -- insisted they were right to allow their children, aged 10 and 6, to play in the park or walk home from school without adult supervision. They were in the process of appealing Child Protective Service's child neglect charge. Then it happened again. On Sunday, Rafi Meitiv and his younger sister Dvora were just a few blocks from home when a police officer pulled up. "The policeman said 'we'll give you a ride home' when we were like two blocks away," Rafi told a Fox 5 reporter. "So we got into the car and then about two and a half hours later -- after sitting in the car for two and a half hours -- he said, 'okay I'll bring you home,'" Rafi said. But the officer took the two children to CPS without notifying Danielle and Sasha. The parents finally received a call around 8 p.m., but were not permitted to see their children for several more hours. "It's 10:30 at night," Danielle told reporters once CPS handed the children over. "They've been missing since 6 o'clock." Danielle said the kids normally carry "free range" badges so neighbors know they're not lost, but the children had left them behind that day. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Cure for Alzheimer's? Ultrasound shows potential in clearing toxic brain plaques

01:32
Australian researchers have found that mice suffering from Alzheimer's performed much better in behaviour tests after receiving ultrasound treatment, a discovery that could give hope in the battle to find a cure for humans suffering from the degenerative illness. Neurotransmitter activities are disrupted in the brain of Alzheimer's patients. Beta amyloids, a natural protein, accumulated in a patient's brain, leading to the formation of plaques that can damage nerve cells. The cerebral cortex of Alzheimer's patients also shrink as symptoms progress. Scientists at the University of Queensland in Australia conducted a series of tests in which they injected a solution containing tiny gas bubbles in mice. Ultrasound treatment helps the gas bubbles to expand. The bubbles then temporarily open a gap in the blood-brain barrier, allowing the entrance of antibodies into the brain. The antibodies remove toxic beta amyloids thus reducing the size of plaques in the patient's brain. Researchers plan to carry out the same tests in larger animals such as sheep. Tests in humans will be more difficult because of the harder human skull, which ultrasonic waves cannot easily penetrate. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Face transplant recipient Richard Norris meets donor family that gave him a new life - TomoNews

01:25
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND — In 2012, Rebekah Aversano's family decided to donate her 21-year-old brother Josh's face for transplant after he was killed in a car accident. Josh Aversano's face including his jawbones, teeth, tongue, muscles, and nerves were transplanted to Richard Norris. In 1997 Richard Norris accidentally shot himself in the face with a shotgun. The 2012 surgery involved 150 doctors and nurses and took 36 hours. In a taped segment scheduled to air on 60 Minutes in Australia, Rebekah Aversano will see Norris with the face of her dead brother for the first time. Before the transplant, Norris had undergone more than 30 operations to try and correct the damage and restore his features. Norris was only 22 when his face 'exploded' after a fight with his mother. He lived his life as a recluse facing cruel comments from strangers when he would muster up the courage to go outside. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 01:33
ROGERSVILLE, TENNESSEE — A Tennessee couple attacked their neighbor for calling the cops on them for having extremely loud sex. Johnny Allen Richards, 33, and Erin Brooke Lawson, 32, beat and stabbed 57-year-old Mark Galin in his home in Rogersville, Tennessee on the evening of June 9 after Galin called 911 on them twice, first for their raucous sex and a second time after they got into a domestic argument. Richards and Lawson forced their way into Galin's house. Lawson attacked Galin with a rake, causing lacerations and a stab wound in his arm, and Richards beat Galin with a 2-by-2 stick. Galin called 911 a third time after the couple left. According to Hawkins County police, Richards had been arrested 45 times, while Lawson had been arrested 31 times. Both have been frequent guests at the Hawkins County jail and are now being held there indefinitely. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Walmart Spider-Man: Alabama shoplifter jumps out of ceiling to escape security officers

01:16
Dramatic video from last Friday shows a guy getting stopped by theft-prevention officers who suspected him of shoplifting from a Walmart in Mobile, Alabama. The alleged thief was not eager to cooperate, but staff finally dragged the dude into the store's security office and waited for cops to arrive. The alleged shoplifter tried to fight his way out of the office, kicking and yanking at the door, but staff penned him inside. reports say after some brief silence, loud bangs were heard and it soon became clear the guy had crawled up into the ceiling in a bid to escape. As Walmart staff tried to figure out where he was — boom — the guy kicked a hole through the ceiling and jumped down just feet away from the store's exit. The man then ran out of the store and made his getaway — he has not yet been caught. Following his dramatic escape, employees nicknamed him "Spider-Man" but we think it's safe to assume the "real" Spider-Man would be displeased to be compared to a guy who is accused of shoplifting a debit card, a hat, a watch and some underwear. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Snake bite: pregnant mom tries to save son by sucking rattlesnake venom out of his foot - TomoNews

01:46
FOLSOM, CALIFORNIA — A very pregnant Northern California mother put herself and her unborn baby at risk when she acted on her motherly instincts and tried to save her snake-bitten son by sucking the venom out of his foot. Jaclyn Caramazza, who's due any day now, was walking back home along Folsom Bike Trail with her son Vinny when he accidentally stepped on a brown rattlesnake, FOX News 40 reports. The snake bit the 4-year-old's foot leaving two puncture marks. As the venom made its way into the young boy's bloodstream his leg quickly turned purple and began to swell up. Caramazza, fearing for her son's life, says she next began sucking the venom out of his foot, copying a move she'd seen on the classic western TV series 'Bonanza', before rushing him to a nearby hospital. Luckily, the venom didn't spread to Carmazza or her unborn son and little Vinny, after spending two days in the hospital, is now back home recovering. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 01:13
GUANGXI, CHINA — Yangyang, a 24 soon to be college graduate, decided she wanted some plastic surgery to her face to make herself look perfect at graduation. Originally, from Jiangsu, she said it would also be a surprise to her family when she returned with a degree and looking like a supermodel. Yangyang also said that looking good would help her get a job after graduation. Yangyang had been wheeled into the recovery room and was checking out her new looks in the mirror when a strange woman wandering by asked her if she liked the results. Yangyang said she was pleased with the results and couldn’t wait for the swelling to go down. Then the stranger attacked Yangyang, punching her repeatedly in the face until nurses were able to subdue the attacker. Hospital staff later explained to police that the 30 year old woman was a disgruntled patient who’d had some work done 5 years ago. Dissatisfied with the results the woman would often return to the hospital to cuss out and slander the doctor who’d worked on her. That day, the doctor wasn’t in the office, so the stranger apparently decided to take out her rage on poor Yangyang. Thankfully for Yangyang, the damage was superficial and only left mild bruising. Yangyang pressed charges against the woman and the hospital increased security. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Farewell Saruman, Count Dooku, Dracula! Christopher Lee dies, 93

02:53
British actor Sir Christopher Lee, known to many for having, as the Washington Times put it, one of the "most prolific screen-villain careers of all time", has died. He was 93. The London-born actor passed away Sunday morning, after being hospitalized for respiratory problems and heart failure while preparing for his latest film role. Standing a massive 6'4'', Lee was an actor of towering stature, both literally and figuratively with, according to IMDb, more than 280 acting credits to his name. Roles as iconic as the eponymous count in Terence Fisher's "Dracula" and the shiny pistol-toting Bond villain Scaramanga "The Man with the Golden Gun" and more recently the wizard Saruman in “The Lord of the Rings” franchise and Sith lord Count Dooku in two Star Wars prequels. The above roles, however, fail to scratch the surface of his incredible career, so below we present a brief gallery of our personal favorite Sir Christopher Lee moments. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Jail time for student who faked terminal illness and ruined her teacher's life - TomoNews

01:37
CORNWALL, UNITED KINGDOM — A con-artist student was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail after she tricked her former tutor into believing she had a terminal illness, the Daily Mirror reported. Elisa Bianco, 22, cooked up a string of lies that landed her in jail after she took advantage of her former tutor, Sally Retallack, 49. Retallack let Bianco live with her for months and took care of her because she thought Bianco was dying. According to the Daily Mirror, Bianco made fake medical documents to fool Retallack, who would give her rides to the hospital. Instead of actually seeing a doctor, the healthy woman sat in the cafe, forged hospital documents, and bought bandages to fake her surgeries. Eventually Rettalack's husband left her because of the stress that the crazed pathological lies put on their family. Then, Bianco took it a step further, by setting Retallack up with her doctor, who didn't really exist. Bianco impersonated him in emails and on the phone. On the way to go meet the made-up doctor, Bianco showed Rettalack fake messages saying that he had died. She even went so far as to tell everyone that she had been given three months to live. She drafted a bucket list, and Rettalack threw her a last birthday party. The deceptions were revealed when Rettalack went to visit Bainco at the hospital and none of the staff had heard of her. She was discovered in the cafe and admitted to the fabrications. A month later, police questioned her about forged letters and her fake email accounts. Rettalack left her job and moved to France to start a new life. She told the court: "I trusted her and over time put her above my family and friends as I knew she would only be here for a short period of time." "I truly believed she had no one else. I have to live with this guilt and the consequences forever," she added. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Aaron Hernandez trial: Former New England Patriots tight end found guilty in murder of Odin Lloyd

01:45
Former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez is facing life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murder and five weapons charges, according to Reuters. The jury heard from 135 witnesses and deliberated for more than 25 hours before declaring Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player and was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee at the time of the murder. In the early morning hours of a June day in 2013, Hernandez picked up Lloyd from his home in Massachusetts. The two men who were with Hernandez -- Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace -- will stand trial at a later date. With Lloyd in the car, Hernandez reportedly confronted him about spending time with people Hernandez didn't like. Hours later, a jogger discovered Lloyd’s body, peppered with gunshot wounds, at an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez’s home. Police found additional evidence, including 5 shell casings and an unlit joint containing DNA that matched Lloyd’s and Hernandez’s. Prosecutors also brought before the jury cellphone records, fingerprint evidence and surveillance footage from outside Hernandez’s home. In addition to Lloyd’s murder, Hernandez also faces charges of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in a drive-by shooting in 2012. Jury members for Lloyd’s case told reporters that they didn’t even know about the double homicide until after Wednesday’s verdict. Hernandez signed a $40 million contract with the Patriots less than three years ago. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Giant black hole 12 billion times bigger than the sun is baffling scientists

01:24
The discovery of a giant black hole which is growing faster than usual challenges our current theories of black hole expansion. Led by Xue-Bing Wu of China's Peking University, a team of scientists detected a giant black hole they have named SDSS J010013.021280225.8. Though it is not the biggest black hole ever found, it is the biggest one detected in terms of luminosity: 40,000 times more bright than our solar system, the Milky Way, said Avi Loeb, Chair of the Department of Astronomy of Harvard University in an interview with National Geographic. He was not involved in this research. Apart from its size, what is astonishing is that it was formed only 875 million years after the big bang—a relatively short period for a black hole to grow to such a massive size. Scientists are are not certain what accounts for the black hole's rapid development, but one of the possibilities is that two black holes collided when the universe was very young. A black hole starts to form when the core of a dying star loses nuclear fuel, allowing gravity to overcome outward pressure. The core explodes and the star becomes a supernova. The black hole has such a powerful gravitational pull that nothing, including light, can escape. Yet, scientists can detect the existence of black holes from their quasars, a glow of radiating gas and matter. The black hole also absorbs other stars in its vicinity. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Seed bomb drones: UK-based start-up to plant one billion trees in one year using drones

01:09
Oxford-based start-up Biocarbon Engineering is planning to fight industrial deforestation by planting 1 billion trees a year using drones. Currently, 26 billions trees are cut down every year, while only 15 billions are replanted. The drones used by Biocarbon Engineering could solve the problem by making tree planting faster and cheaper. In a video made by the company, Biocarbon Engineering explains that the drones would first fly above a selected area, map its level of deforestation and report back its potential for reforestation. Then, automated planting drones carrying seed pods would fly one to two metres above the ground, following a pre-determined planting pattern, and fire germinated seeds into the soil. A small pressurized canister would provide the necessary propulsive force for the seed pods to easily penetrate the soil surface. The seed pods, filled with nutritious hydrogel to reduce the force of the seed’s impact with the soil, would then break open upon impact and allow the germinated seeds to grow. According to the Independent, one drone is able to plant 10 seeds per minute. With two operators controlling multiple drones, 36,000 trees could be planted in a single day. Biocarbon Engineering hopes to have the system fully working by the end of the summer. According to the Independent, the drone system is not as good as hand-sowing, but it’s much quicker and less expensive than traditional planting systems. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Seattle PD Officer Whitlatch gets desk duty after arresting a elderly veteran William Wingate

02:22
Seattle Police apologize for mistreating a 70-year-old man out on a stroll with his golf club — but that's just the tip of the iceberg. On July 9, 2014, William Wingate was walking through the Capitol Hill section of Seattle, Washington as part of his normal routine when Officer Cynthia Whitlatch of the Seattle Police Department pulled her cruiser over and accused him of swinging a golf club at her. Wingate wasn't having it. The Air Force veteran and retired Metro bus driver tried to explain to Officer Whitlatch that he uses the club as a walking stick and was simply minding his own business. Officer Whitlatch then called for backup and the senior citizen was placed under arrest and put into a paddy wagon, which because of his age, he needed some help into according to the report — talk about not respecting your elders! In October of last year the City Attorney recommended the case for dismissal after former Washington State Representative Dawn Mason became involved. Working with Chief Kathleen O'Toole and Deputy Chief Carmen Best, the three were able to get the charges dropped, and right this wrong, at least on paper. But the rabbit hole goes much deeper, it seems. Officer Whitlatch ex-girlfriend, who was also a police officer at one point, says that Whitlatch often dropped the N-bomb around her when talking about her day on the job. In another incident, Seattle resident Brian Davis got into a dispute on Facebook with Officer Whitlatch during the Ferguson protests and riots last summer while talking about a post from another officer/mutual friend who was "tired of folks assuming all cops are racist." Davis's reply was simply that the poster should stop thinking the protests were just about "the cops" and realize its about "The System." That's when Officer Whitlatch left this reply saying in essence "black racism" is far more damaging as a whole than "white racism." And black folks shouldn't be paranoid that all white folks are "out to get them." Oh really? I'm sure Wingate here felt the same exact way back in July, about two seconds before this incident. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Exploding hoverboard burns family's house down in Louisiana - TomoNews

01:20
LAFITTE, LOUISIANA — A hoverboard that was plugged in to charge the battery exploded and set fire to a family's house in Lafitte, Louisiana, WGNO reported. On November 20, Hayden Horne, 12, opened his birthday present and was delighted to try out his new hoverboard that his mother, Jessica Horne, bought on Amazon from a company called Fit Turbo. He rode it around, but when it ran out of battery power the next day, he plugged it in using the charger that came with it. His mother walked by the boy's room only to see the hoverboard spark and catch fire in seconds. According to the GoFundMe page Horne started to help out with expenses related to the fire, she wrote that within minutes the whole room was on fire. Horne also wrote about the incident on Facebook, saying the firefighters responded to the blaze in minutes and rescued her dog, which was trapped inside. The use of hoverboards in public has been banned in New York City and in London. According to a CNN report, nearly 90 percent of the hoverboards imported into Britain have been recalled because of the risk of explosion or electrocution. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Death penalty case: Man sentenced to death after stabbing mother and daughter over 40x - TomoNews

01:29
KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN - A man in Taiwan convicted for the murders of a mother and daughter has just had a judge change his life sentence to a death sentence. Cai Yongxing, age 60, was convicted for stabbing his girlfriend, Ms Tu, and her daughter to death before setting their home on fire. Cai worked as the delivery truck driver for Ms. Tu’s company and the two began dating. However, the two had an argument in September 2014 and Cai left after threatening his girlfriend that she would regret making him angry. Less than a week later Cai snuck into Ms. Tu’s apartment and stabbed her to death. He stabbed her over twenty times before also killing Ms. Tu’s 19 year old daughter who had been hiding in her closet. In total, Mr. Cai stabbed the two women over 40 times. He then attempted to set fire to the apartment with no regard for the other residents in the building. A neighbor called the police and fire department after a stranger told him the building was on fire. Police found the two women in the apartment, critically injured. Ms. Tu’s daughter was still alive and rushed to hospital, but doctors were unable to save her. After being given a life sentence for the two murders, a judge upped Mr. Cai’s sentence to the death sentence saying that he had premeditated the murders, tortured the women, and also committed arson in an attempt to cover up his crimes. Ms. Tu and her daughter was survived by Ms. Tu’s elderly mother who said she agreed with the death sentence. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Mugger fail: Mugger gets owned by female MMA fighter in Brazil - TomoNews

01:28
ACAILANDIA, BRAZIL — Female MMA fighter Monique Bastos was mugged for her cell phone on Tuesday night, but one of the muggers got a rude awakening when she fought back and held him in leg lock until police came. Bastos told MMAFighting.com: "I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones. I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one." Go Tropa reported that the man being pinned to the ground in the video is Wesley de Sousa Araujo, 18. While Bastos held him in a triangle leglock, he cried for his father, mother and Jesus to help him, along with calling out for the police, who did eventually come fifteen minutes later, but only to help by arresting the would-be thief, according to MMAFighting.com. Bastos added: "I've been through this a few times before, and it's the second time I fought back. There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It's a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned." ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Backpackers abused in Australia: Working holiday visas exploited by Aussie employers - TomoNews

01:22
After years of complaints Australia’s government has finally admitted after an investigation that farms and factories have been exploiting unskilled workers with 417 working holiday visas. The 417 working holiday visa has attracted more than a quarter million visitors since it began, and was intended as a cultural exchange program for backpackers and international students looking to travel to Australia or extend their visas. The working holiday visa allows individuals to stay for up to 6 months and seek employment in unskilled or low-skilled jobs such as fruit picking or meat packaging. Unfortunately, unscrupulous corporations are taking advantage of migrant workers. Migrant workers are often paid less than minimum wage, women are often sexually harassed or assaulted, and some are solicited for sex in order to obtain a visa extension. Migrant workers are often treated differently from their Australian passport holding co-workers. Some companies provide Australian employees overnight sleeping quarters but migrant workers are often only given a pallet on the floor in a main room. For those migrant workers who dare to complain, they’re quickly fired and their visas revoked. The 417 visa system has been severely corrupted and needs a complete overhaul. The question is: Who’s going to tackle the issue? ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Kidnapped child saved: Hero pizza shop worker sees Amber Alert, saves Texas boy - TomoNews

01:05
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — The family of a kidnapped south Texas 7-year-old have an unlikely hero to thank after an alert employee at a Corpus Christi pizza shop helped identify the vehicle of the boy’s abductor last week, according to a KRISTV.com report. Courtney Best, 26, stepped out of the Papa Murphy's Pizza store where she worked last Thursday for what was supposed to have been a routine smoke break, but turned out to be anything but. The restaurant supervisor received an Amber Alert for a missing boy on her phone at virtually the same moment, as luck would have it, she saw a white car fitting the exact description of the abductor's vehicle pulling into her restaurant's parking lot. Best next spotted the apparent suspect as he walked with a scared-looking little boy into a nearby store and instantly sprung into action. "The man was walking across the parking lot, looking at me because I was the only person out here with the little boy. (The boy) looked scared," Best told the local station. "My stomach started knotting up, so I was like, ahh, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna check and see." She next carefully checked the car’s license plate before calling police who promptly arrested the suspect, one Channing Galbraith, and saved the young boy, Nicholas Gomez, who had been abducted from his home the day before. Galbraith reportedly remains in the slammer and faces charges related to the alleged abduction. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. British spies: Eileen Burgoyne dies at 99, may have been Cold War spy, firearms discovered-TomoNews

01:47
TWICKENHAM, SURREY, UNITED KINGDOM — A shy old woman, who passed away in the suburbs, is now believed to be have been hiding an amazing secret, her life as a Cold War spy. Reclusive, shy Eileen Burgoyne passed away last year without much notice by neighbors, but a team of builders discovered several firearms in her home after her death. One of the firearms was a working Sten sub-machine gun, an austere British 9mm weapon used throughout the Second World War. Eileen had studied French and Spanish at college in Manchester and may have worked as a typist or translator for intelligence services. Much of her personal file was destroyed, but what was left revealed she had two periods of service from 1945-1947 and 1950-1953. Eileen was posted overseas for the Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Centre, which operated interrogation centers around the world. Her cousin Georgina Wood has shared some of the belongings she was sent following Eileen’s death. Some of the items hint at Eileen having been a spy for the United Kingdom. Among the belongings were letters and telegrams from the War Office, photos of Hamburg devastated by Allied bombs, an invitation to a German hotel from a lieutenant colonel from 1945, and freedom passes from the Danish Allied Committee. The discovery of the firearms in Eileen’s home sparked a brief bomb scare which definitely attracted the attention of neighbors as well as the media. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Drive by shooting prank gone wrong: girl shot after idiot dad brings her paintballing - TomoNews

01:16
OAKLAND — Tyanni Miller, 4, is recovering after being shot in the chest as a result of her idiot father's decision to shoot up East Oakland with a paintball gun. The 4-year-old girl sat in the back seat of a Volvo while her father, Julius Miller, and friends targeted cars and people along International Boulevard. But apparently, not everyone in Oakland thinks random paintballing is all fun and games. Police believe the genuine gunmen had been targets in the father and friends' paintball prank. The gunmen eventually caught up with the paintball crew and fired several shots at their Volvo. One of the bullets struck Tyanni in the chest—another grazed the driver who then lost control of the vehicle and crashed near the 1000 block of 81st Avenue. Police arrested the father and the driver of the vehicle, Marcell Powell, and Miller when they showed up at the hospital to check on little Tyanni, who authorities say was in stable condition on Wednesday. Police are still searching for the gunmen. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. U.S. army surveillance blimp escapes from military base and wreaks havoc in Pennsylvania - TomoNews

01:10
BLOOMSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA — A military blimp wreaked havoc across Pennsylvania when it detached from its anchor and escaped from a base in Maryland on Wednesday, officials said. One of the U.S. military surveillance blimps anchored in Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland broke loose at around 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, NORAD said. Two F-16 jets were scrambled from New Jersey to monitor the blimp, to ensure it didn't collide with other aircraft. The blimp drifted for about 150 miles before landing in central Pennsylvania, according to NORAD. Its tail detached before the crash landing and was found a quarter-mile away from the crash site. PPL Electric Utilities said before the blimp crashed into a clump of trees, it struck power lines with its tether, a 6,700-foot-long cable, causing 20,000 people to lose power. The 243-foot-long blimp uses low-frequency and long-range radar to detect missiles or other objects within its range. It can detect aircraft within a 340-mile radius, and vehicles can be detected within a 140-mile radius, reports the Washington Post. Officials said it is unclear how the blimp, also known as JLENS, or Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System, detached from its anchor. The vessel, which ascends to 10,000 feet in the air, monitors the area round the capital and surrounding portions of the Eastern seaboard. The device issues an early warning if the United States is being attacked with cruise missiles, drones or other low-flying weapons. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Trump bounty dead or alive: El Chapo drug kingpin wants the Donald for $100 million - TomoNews

01:47
SINALOA STATE, MEXICO — Donald Trump, the reality TV host and frontrunner for the Republican nomination for U.S. president, has reportedly started taking threats against his life seriously. Specifically, he's worried about the threat of a $100 million bounty placed on his head recently by the world's most powerful drug kingpin, and proud Mexican, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. The unconfirmed bounty has been widely reported in Spanish and English and is attributed to an unnamed prisoner, somewhere in Mexico, who says of El Chapo, "He was mad. He wants Donald Trump dead and will pay any amount of money to have Donald Trump's head." It seems Trump got El Chapo's attention with his June campaign speech when he said Mexico sends drugs, crime and rapists to the U.S. El Chapo, who prefers to think of himself as a "job creator," escaped from prison in early July and allegedly engaged in a flame war with Trump over Twitter, using an account attributed to El Chapo's son, Ivan. When Trump tweeted about Guzman's escape, El Chapo, or his son, replied with some very colorful Spanish and swore Trump would "eat his words." While displaying public bravado in the face of El Chapo's threats, Trump also asked the FBI to investigate the Twitter account. When asked about the threats, Trump said: "We have officials all over the place, included outside hanging out in trees." Without official confirmation of the bounty on Trump's head, it's unlikely anyone would brave his "officials in trees," but with El Chapo on the loose, and Trump on the campaign trail, the iconoclasts are sure to meet again, even if only on Twitter. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Massive blizzard hits the United States’ East Coast on Monday

01:12
The Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast are bracing for what the National Weather Service has labeled a “crippling” snowstorm threatening to sweep through the East Coast on Monday and Tuesday. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio warned city residents on Sunday that New York is facing what could be “one of the largest snowstorms in the history of this city.” The snowstorm, dubbed “Winter Storm Juno” by the National Weather Service, began in the Midwest. Storms are created at cold fronts as warm air from the equator meets cold air from the poles. At the point where the two types of air meet, the warm, moist air rises above the cold air and creates storm clouds. This relatively mild storm will likely transform from a clipper-type storm system into a blizzard as it makes its way from the Midwest to the Northeast. The main reason for this transformation is that as the storm approaches Washington D.C., the storm hits a trough, a concave, low-pressure area of the global jet stream conducive to wet, stormy weather. Jet streams are formed by the difference in temperature between the northern and southern hemispheres. As this difference in temperature begins to lessen because of global warming, the jet stream has started to move more slowly, and consequentially become more wavy. This has created more opportunities for the troughs to dip deeper into parts of the United States. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Idiot Abroad: Unruly British expat berates Singapore man over F--ing t-shirt - TomoNews

01:54
And it’s a realization which came slightly too late to this expat commuter who harassed a young man on the Singapore subway. The expat targeted the young man for his t-shirt, which read “I’m so f---ing special.” The aggressor, who speaks with a British accent, demands the young man get off the train, until a bystander, whose name is either Loony or Elfy, bravely steps in and calls the jerk out. When the police show up, our unnamed antagonist realizes that, like an outbreak of crabs, people kind of really want him gone, and he gets off the train. But being a terrible person doesn’t end there, because he continues to complain to the police about the t-shirt. Elfy/Loony has kept up his everyday-hero routine, posting on his Facebook that people shouldn’t stoop to race baiting the aggressor in the wake of the incident. No information has emerged about the belligerent, and although he looks old enough to miss the British Raj, Winston Churchill he definitely isn’t, so maybe he should just shut the hell up. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Airplane near miss: Air France jet nearly crashes into Mount Cameroon in central Africa - TomoNews

01:10
DOUALA, CAMEROON — An Air France jet traveling from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to Douala, Cameroon nearly hit central Africa’s tallest mountain on May 2. Flight AF953 changed course and turned north mid-flight to avoid storm clouds that were in its original flightpath. The Boeing 777’s new flightpath directed the plane towards the 4,090-metres-tall Mount Cameroon. Flying at 2,743 metres, the plane ascended sharply to 3,962 metres and narrowly missed the mountain. An initial report by France's BEA air accident agency says that as the plane neared the mountain, the aircraft issued an automated warning that told the pilots to take immediate action. AF953 was carrying 23 passengers, three pilots and 10 crew members. After a preliminary investigation, Air France said crew members acted in accordance with their training. However, all have been taken off flying duties to undergo more training. Air France says that the passengers weren’t aware of what was going on in the cockpit during the flight. The BEA is investigating the near-accident as a ‘serious incident.’ ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. China Airlines failure to reassure passengers trapped in Singapore airport - TomoNews

01:40
SINGAPORE - Two hundred and forty-four passengers were trapped in the Singapore airport after China Airlines played passenger shuffle for nearly 10 hours. A China Airlines flight bound for Taiwan from Singapore was delayed after the captain deboarded the flight due to a computer warning. Passengers were then reboarded 3 hours after the original flight departure time and then deboarded again when the computer warning continued to flash. China Airlines then provided food vouchers for all the passengers while they waited for maintenance to attempt to fix the plane. Eight and a half hours later, China Airlines attempted to reboard the 244 passengers, but some refused, saying they were afraid to board the defective plane. In the end China Airlines promised to have a second plane flown in to replace the defective one, but it wouldn’t arrive until the next morning. Passengers were put up in the airport business hotel on China Airlines’s dime, but woke up to discover the arrival of the new plane had been delayed. Finally, more than 24 hours later, the 244 passengers trekked off the China Airlines flight at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan. China Airlines refunded half of all the passengers’s tickets and provided gift bags in an attempt to apologize. Still, many of the passengers said there was no way they were going to fly China Airlines ever again and some even said they’d rather die than go back to Singapore. But um…. it’s not Singapore’s fault, CA is a Taiwanese airline! ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. A New Mexico couple is recovering after the pair’s three-year-old son accidentally shot them with a handgun Saturday. Monique Villescas and Justin Reynolds of Albuquerque, New Mexico, were in a motel room at America’s Best Value Inn with their two children, a three-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, when the shooting occurred. On Saturday afternoon, the young boy reached into his mother’s purse to retrieve an iPod. He pulled out a 9mm handgun instead and accidentally fired the weapon. “All of the sudden we heard the gun go off,” Reynolds said in an interview with KOB 4. “The next minute I realized my girlfriend was bleeding.” The bullet struck Reynolds in the buttock, exited through his hip and struck Villescas -- who is eight months’ pregnant -- in the arm. The two-year-old was unharmed. Reynolds reportedly tried to slow Villescas’ bleeding while he called an ambulance. He has since been released from the hospital, and KOB 4 reports Villescas is in stable condition. Officer Simon Drobik of the Albuquerque Police Department said in a press release: “The Albuquerque Police Department cannot emphasize enough that if you choose to be a gun owner ALWAYS secure and lock up your firearm out of the reach of children and adolescents.” Police also said the parents could face felony criminal negligence charges. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Gym weights thrown from skyscraper at cars: Man’s car hit by an unusual meteor - TomoNews

01:11
TAIPEI, TAIWAN - In Taiwan, Mr. Zhu was minding his own business and driving home from a long day at work when something struck the roof of his car. Startled by the sound of the impact, which made it sound like a bomb had gone off inside his car, Mr. Zhu pulled over and found a massive dent in the roof of his car. Searching the side of the road, Mr. Zhu found the thing that had struck his car. It was a 5 kilo barbell weight. Mr. Zhu contacted police who investigated the nearby buildings. One of the buildings did have a gym on the 6th floor. However, staff working at the gym, called World Gym, said that there was no way to open windows without smashing them in cases of emergency. Staff did inform police that the gym had been vandalized and received threatening messages as recently as 3 days ago. Now, police suspect that the barbell weight may have been thrown from the building in an attempt to discredit the gym. The case is still under investigation, but World Gym lawyers have stated they will pay for the damage to Mr. Zhu’s car as he may be an innocent party involved in the dispute. Mr. Zhu said he’s just happy the weight wasn’t thrown at a pedestrian. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Everyday Hero: Tiny 2 year old saves his elderly neighbors from CO poisoning

01:12
Most two year olds don’t understand much beyond eating, drinking, pooping, sleeping, and playing. But our hero today is a two year old named Shan Shan, who lives with his parents in Nanjing, China. Shan Shan was pretty close with the retired elderly couple in their 80’s who lived next door to his parents. The 2 year old would often toddle next door to play or to get a piece of candy from the elderly couple who were always eager to see him. However, earlier this week, when Shan Shan wandered next door to visit no one answered when he knocked on the door, so the brazen 2 year old just pushed his way in. He saw the elderly husband lying on the ground in the kitchen and when he was unable to wake up the old man, Shan Shan went back to his home and informed his mother. It turns out that the old man had been preparing lunch for himself and his wife, but had forgotten to open the windows, allowing carbon monoxide to build up from the gas stove. His wife was down at the village community center and didn’t return until several hours later. The elderly gentlemen is now recovered and says he owes his life to the tiny tot. Thank goodness Superman Shan Shan was there to watch out for him! ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Honeytrap: ‘Dear Leader’ author claims North Korea used female spies to control businessmen, politic

01:33
North Korea, dubbed the ‘Hermit Kingdom’ in the early 19th century by Westerners attempting to infiltrate Asia for trade, is still the world’s most isolated country. Approximately 24 million people live in the totalitarian state where foreign media is forbidden and contact with foreign tourists is strictly controlled. Yet, Jang Jin-sung, author of the memoir ‘Dear Leader’, claims that the North Korean regime hasn’t been as belligerently blind about its international neighbors and has, in its own way, attempted to control the activities of visiting foreign politicians, journalists, and businessmen. According to Jang, North Korea’s ‘honeytrap’ plan, established by former leader Kim Jong-Il, was established to set up foreign dignitaries with female spies posing as translators or aides. Their job was to sleep with such men and become pregnant. Many of the men returned home and then received a phone call informing them that their North Korean lover had become pregnant. The idea was that North Korean regime would then be able to emotionally blackmail the victims, compelling the men to hold an interest in North Korea’s future plight. Politicians caught in the honeytrap would then have an interest to protect and support North Korea in their own countries or at the UN. Entrapped journalists would have an incentive to write positive articles and reviews about the country and businessmen would invest money into the country’s crippled economy. The children of these unions would then be raised and indoctrinated with North Korean ideology, before being sent abroad as spies or to lure other powerful men into protecting North Korea. Of course, North Korea is most interested in monitoring its nearest neighbors, South Korea, Japan, and China. Japan’s Socialist Party has denied any of its members have fathered children in North Korea. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Five frat bros charged with first-degree hazing after pledge dies from initiation ritual - TomoNews

01:34
ALBANY, NEW YORK — Five fraternity brothers have been charged with first-degree hazing after their participation in an initiation led to the death of 19-year-old University of Albany student, Trevor Duffy, late last year. On November 15th, 2014, the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity was conducting its annual initiation ceremony, where pledges were instructed to drink a 60-ounce bottle of alcohol over the course of the night. Duffy was told to drink Belvedere vodka, but drank so much he ended up on shower floor, with his fraternity "big brother" Keith Rosengarten monitoring him. When a female student, Emily Uezyoga, walked in to see her friend on the ground, she said Rosengarten told her Duffy "was fine, and just sleeping." But when she returned an hour later, Duffy's lips had turned bluish-purple and he was drooling. When she told the other frat boys to call 911, Uezyoga says the men argued about whether that was a good idea, and decided to carry him outside so that the police wouldn't enter the fraternity house. At the hospital, Duffy's blood alcohol level registered at 0.583. He died two days later from anoxic encephalopathy, a condition where the brain is deprived of oxygen and ceases to function. Two of the men charged, 20-year-olds Olaf Jablonski and Yuval Sucov, were former students of the university. Along with Jonathan Maldonado, 21, Stephen Villa, 22, and Rosengarten, 20, the men now face Class-A misdemeanor charges as a result of the death. Trevor Duffy's parents are suing the university for $55 million in damages, believing the school should have prepared new students better by advising them of the dangers of hazing at fraternities. According to university officials, this chapter of Zeta Beta Tau was stripped of recognition in 1997, but has maintained an underground presence ever since. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Terminal diagnosis: Man dies 4 days after surgery that was supposed to save his life - TomoNews

01:13
SINGAPORE - Mr. Tan, age 49, was a cab driver living in Singapore who had been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. They predicted he had three more months to live. However, Mr. Tan defied his doctors’ predictions and lived 6 years longer than predicted. He worked every day of the 6 years, trying to save enough money to pay for his only son’s university tuition. He often worked 12 hour shifts or even around the clock despite his health. Mr. Tan often picked up his son from school, happily chauffeuring him between school and home. It was earlier this month that doctors from the National University Hospital called to say they’d found a match for Mr. Tan. He would be able to receive a new liver and it gave the cab driver the hope that he’d see his son, Elvis, graduate. But in a cruel twist of fate, 4 days after Mr. Tan’s liver transplant surgery he suddenly died. Doctors said that Mr. Tan’s body was rejecting the new organ and his kidneys were starting to fail. Mr. Tan was hooked up to a dialysis machine, which processed the toxins his body couldn’t no longer handle. Mr. Tan’s wife and son said that his death was too sudden and unexpected. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Overwork: Man suffers stroke from overwork, employer won’t pay bc he didn’t die

01:39
Cai Boqiang was a famous surgeon and was highly in demand five years ago. Was. No, he’s not dead, but he did suffer a stroke five years ago. Dr. Cai’s wife is suing Qimei Hospital in Tainan, for refusing to pay overwork benefits to her husband. Taiwanese law requires companies to pay 3.5 years of a worker’s salary if the Council of Labor Affairs finds that the employee died due to overwork related medical complications. Qimei Hospital is refusing to pay that amount to Dr. Cai and his wife because he isn’t dead. Five years ago, after an 84 hour work week, Dr. Cai collapsed in the operating room and suffered a severe stroke that has left him with diminished mental capacities. Due to the lack of oxygen to his brain, Dr. Cai has been left with the mental capacity of a 4-year-old, he needs to be fed and reminded to take his medication. His wife is now his full time nurse. A hard working attitude is important in Taiwan, which ranks among the top countries with the longest working day. On average, Taiwanese employees work about 2,200 hours annually--that’s 20% more than Japan and the US, according to government data. The problem is that trade unions are nearly non-existent or too weak and existing laws and penalties are too light. Stepping up fines or jailing is too little too late when the worker has already died-- and an average of 50 people die due to overwork in Taiwan every year. Mrs. Cai is seeking USD $250,000. She says that isn’t fair that the hospital refuses to compensate her family simply because her husband didn’t die from overwork. It was the overwork that caused him to suffer the stroke and she has lost the spirit of the man she loved. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 360 Video - Take a ride on Elon Musk’s Hyperloop

01:29
Billionaire philanthropist Elon Musk hopes to introduce a new form of transportation to compete with planes and trains. The new technology, called Hyperloop, would consist of a tube with Concorde-like seating inside able to send passengers at 760 miles an hour on a cushion of compressed air. The tubes would be launched by a rail gun type launcher. The tube would shoot through an elevated structure with pods mounted above the ground on columns 50 to 100 yards (45 to 91 metres) apart or through an underground tunnel, using a maglev like system, like the "floating force" of an air hockey table. A proposed line from Los Angeles to San Francisco would cost $7.5 billion to build. The tubes would be at least three times faster than a bullet train and twice as fast as an airplane. Powered by solar technology, the transport would also be cheaper than conventional methods. The 'Hyperloop', designed to link cities less than 1,000 miles apart, could cover the distance between Los Angeles and San Francisco in about 35 minutes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
