This diagnostic test can help find the cause of weakness, paralysis, or muscle twitching. EMG measures the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction. Nerve conduction studies measure how well and how fast the nerves can send electrical signals. This diagnostic test is done to find damage to the peripheral nervous system, which includes all the nerves that lead away from the brain and spinal cord and the smaller nerves that branch out from those nerves.

Rotator Cuff Injury Treatment Options

02:49
A rotator cuff tear can occur from an injury, such as a direct blow or fall, but they more commonly occur from degeneration which occurs naturally as we age. The symptoms of a rotator cuff tear can include pain in the shoulder, weakness, and limited range of motion. Physical therapy, rest, anti-inflammatory medications, and cortisone injections can sometimes relieve pain and restore function in the shoulder. Your doctor may recommend surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff if your symptoms don’t go away after conservative treatment.

Knee Surgery for a Torn ACL

03:34
One of the most common knee injuries for active people is an ACL sprain or tear. When surgery is required, the procedure is performed arthroscopically, which means a tiny camera is inserted in the knee through a small incision and connected to a video monitor in the operating room. The damaged ACL is removed and replaced with the graft, which is anchored to the tibia and femur. Recovery time varies, but it is typically 4-6 months before the patient can return to their regular activities and sports.
