Establishing a school of medicine with the backing of two esteemed institutions will attract the best and brightest to the field of medicine in the State of New Jersey and help curb the critical physician shortage that the state and the nation currently face. By 2020, it is estimated there will be a shortage of 2,500 physicians in the Garden State. HackensackUHN and SHU’s joint venture to create a premier academic institution will help combat the physician shortage by providing key educational, research, and career opportunities to incentivize the next generation to pursue a career in medicine.

Like any four year old, Kayden Kinckle loves to play. He's also fast as lightning, with or without legs. Three years ago, Kayden made national news when a video of his first steps went viral. Today, Kayden receives physical therapy twice a week at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at HackensackUMC. In addition, a star of the hit television show, Empire - Jussie Smollett - was so taken with Kayden's strength and determination. The two recently spent a day together roaming around Manhattan and Kayden now considers Jussie to be on of his best friends.

On May 13, 2015, Scott Solomon was driving on the Garden State Parkway when his vehicle flipped several times and landed on its side. Scott suffered severe facial injuries. The crew from AirMed One respond to transport Scott to HackensackUMC. His injuries were so severe that paramedics could not lie Scott down in the helicopter without jeopardizing his ability to breathe. Scott was instead transported by ambulance. When he arrived, the trauma team, led by Sanjeev Kaul, M.D., chief, and John LoCurto, M.D., assistant chief, provided life-saving care to Scott. Hakan Usal, M.D. was then able to reconstruct Scott's face.

John was admitted with a heart attack and would not be able to make it to their wedding in North Bergen today. Thanks to their determination and the efforts of their wonderful healthcare team, John and Kim were married on the outdoor terrace of 3 Pavilion West.

Hackensack University Health Network (HackensackUHN) and Seton Hall University (SHU) announced today that the two institutions have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a new, four-year school of medicine. This partnership will establish the only private school of medicine currently in the state and provide a significant economic boost to the region. The school intends to locate on the campus of the former Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. (Roche), a state-of-the-art biomedical facility, in Nutley and Clifton, New Jersey.

The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HackensackUMC, a member of Hackensack Meridian Health, hosted a special visit from a group of superheroes and a princess. Team members from Sparkle Maintenance dressed in superhero costumes and as a princess and visited pediatric patients and their families during a pre-Halloween celebration. Some of the superheroes scaled the outside of the children’s hospitals as patients watched from their windows inside.
